Immediately upon walking in, I loved all of the colors and the vibes of this Mexican restaurant. When you sit down, they bring chips and salsa to your table. I wasn't a huge fan of the salsa or the chips. The chips had some seasoning on them and to me, it didn't mix well with the salsa. The salsa was really thin, and I prefer a chunky salsa with a salted thick chip lol. I was feeling adventurous and got the French toast on the brunch menu. It was delicious! The berry compote and the two different syrups paired really well with it. The bacon that it came with was perfection. I ate every last bite. I did have a bite of my friends tacos, and they were good but on smaller side in my opinion. Our waitress was great and there were plenty of tvs to watch while we waited. I've been coming here since they first opened, and while I've noticed the food quality has dipped slightly from those early days, it remains a solid choice for Tex-Mex in BR. This is definitely Tex-Mex rather than traditional Mexican, but it hits the spot if that's what you're craving. The real standout is the decor and ambiance, especially after renovating and expanding. The space is very eclectic. Nice ambiance for friends to meet for a bite and come cocktails or a first date. It does have a sports bar feel too and the patio seems nice when it's not too hot. I cam here with coworkers on a Friday at lunchtime. We were seated quickly, and the waitress was super attentive. The chips are so good, and the salsa has just the right amount of spice. Such a great combo. I ordered the lunch special- Dos tacos, which comes with a side. I got the fried avocado taco and portbello taco, both on corn tortilllas, with a side of black beans. I also ordered a side of rice. The portobello taco was my absolute favorite. So much flavor and the green sauce was bomb. The avocado taco was fine, I just wasn't a fan of the texture. The rice and beans were also top notch. As a vegetarian, it's so hard to find beans I'm able to eat at a mexican restaurant. These were so good. Overall, I had a great time. First, I just wanna say nothing was wrong with the food. The flavor was great. The issue was in the service our waitress. I didn't get her name, but she had dark curly hair and was terrible. She was unattended the entire time we were left without chips and salsa or water for over 30 minutes and when we asked for more, it took her about 20 minutes to get back to us. Keep in mind we are sat right by the kitchen, and she was passing by us back-and-forth and multiple times she saw our empty table. I ordered the tortilla soup and two tacos on the menu. There is only one price and size for the tortilla soup which is $11 when she finally brought out our food a small cup of the soup came out and I asked her and she said " oh, I just assumed you wanted the smaller portion since you also got the tacos". This in a way made me feel judged. I wanted leftovers I confirmed with her that the portion she brought out was not going to be $11. My partner got the torta sandwich (which was extremely soggy ) and it comes with one side. He picked the roasted potatoes when we got the bill back it said we had an up charge for his side. I also asked her about that and she responded " Oh yeah, there's an up charge on that particular side." she did not inform us of this information either. When we got home from dinner, we were informed by another couple that went to the restaurant a night prior, and had the same waitress and complained of the same issues. Disappointed. I'd say you're paying for the location and ambience vs the service and taste of the food. We were a party of two with reservation who waited almost an hour for our food. Shrimp Churrasco w/potatoes, a side of elote, shrimp, chicken and steak fajita plate w/black beans and one pork belly escabeche taco. All of the food was subpar. Each dish lacked salt and was highly greasy and/or burnt. We also ordered our favorite drinks (Paloma and an old fashioned) The Paloma taste like lime soda water and the old fashioned was entirely too sweet. Our waitress rarely checked on us and never apologized about the long wait for our food. She also was surprised when we mentioned we were still waiting on our sides. There were 4 other couples who arrived after us and all received their food before us. 2 of the tables belonged to another waitress who we watched run circles around our waitress. If we had time we would've sent our drinks back and perhaps asked for our dishes to be remade (hold the oil and extra burnt pieces) but we had tickets for 8pm at another establishment. We were extremely disappointed and surprised that anyone would pay over $100 for the food/service we received. My friend was overly generous by tipping $10, I on the other hand wouldn't have given anything. Training is needed. Now if you don't mind a quick 15-20 minute ride. I'd highly recommend El Paso on Sherwood Forest. For a fraction of the price, way better food, service and the drinks are amazing! read more

It wasn't extraordinary but if you're looking for a relaxing spot to eat and maybe get a margarita, this is a good spot. The service was fine! The we were seated fairly quickly (we sat at the bar since there was a 30 minute wait). There was a slight mistake with my order but it was minor (the wrong type of taco shell). There was a table for six, which was open when we arrived, but they refused that table to us saying it wasn't enough seating. That table remained empty the whole time. We watched as two families with older children came in, ordered, ate and left when the corner table that we were waiting for was emptied. Just then two couples came in and the manager gave the corner table to that party of four right away. We saw as the hostesses speak to the manager letting him know that we had been waiting over 40mins for that table. Both hostesses looks disgruntled as they set the same empty table for six that we watched the entire wait time with another chair. I stopped them immediately to say that we were told to wait for the corner table, but both hostesses explained that the manager made the change last minute. Which he in turn lied to us saying that the reservation was made five days ago. We tried to leave but the manager came out offering to comp us a free appetizer which we declined. Pretty confident he was slid some cash to bump those couples up to our seat as I overheard one of the men say, "the best he can do is that corner table". We decided to leave and eat elsewhere. I will start by saying the tacos are good, so i mean, that is the main reason for going, right? I had the tinga and the grilled baja fish, both on corn tortillas. Both were good and full of meat and veggies. The prices were good for those, and I think we must have gone when a special was run, so they were a little less than usual. I plan to go back and try additional items when we have more time. Our server was really friendly. I would caution him that some people may thing addressing women as "lady" could be taken as offensive if someone did not realize that his first language was not English. We knew and had no issue, i just know how some people are. He did a great job though. I was not too impressed with the facility itself. Maybe it's the time of day we went, but the restrooms were unacceptable - it smelled like wet dog and trash was everywhere. I would have hated to have even seen a staff member in there because there's no way washing your hands in there would have gotten them clean. The floors throughout the restaurant were really slippery and felt almost greasy too. At my table, it just felt like i was moving my feet in kitchen grease. I came here with a group of 10 while in Baton Rouge for a basketball tournament at LSU. It is conveniently placed about a mile from LSU, which is why we chose it. Our server was helpful and energetic even though we were a large group. I got the cheese quesadillas with a side of elotes. The cheese quesadilla was nothing special, but I wanted something more classic. It came with guac, which tasted fresh and was the perfect texture. Their elotes was to die for. The corn was perfectly sweet, warm, and coated with Mexican cheese and seasoning. Some people at my table were a little disappointed with their food, either because of price, serving size, or taste, but I was not. However, I was disappointed with their form of payment. When it came time to pay, we didn't get actual bills to fill out and sign with our cards. The server had to walk around and have us pay on a portable checkout reader. This made payment awkward and feel rushed. With a group of ten, gratuity was included into our bills. This was completely fine, but this was not clearly stated when paying on the mobile reader. Because of this, our entire group tipped about 20% on a bill that already had a 20% tip added onto it! Lastly, the reader was not clear on tip amount, which caused me to type in my total cost with the tip added on, rather than just the tip itself. I was the first person to pay at the table, but multiple people almost made the same mistake. Even though we got it situated, it was a frustrating experience. It was also frustrating that it was not clear that gratuity was included in our final bill. Nearly all of us tipped double the appropriate amount. Overall, great experience until payment. If taking in the experience of my entire group, I would give them 3 stars. However, the only issue I had was with the payment process, which is why I think 4 stars is appropriate. read more

I am always weary when eating out in a different city, especially Mexican cuisine. I was so pleasantly surprised! The staff, including our server Steven was kind, professional efficient. Chips were amazing and plentiful. We ordered the trio salsas and especially enjoyed the black bean one that was perfectly spicy. The tacos were made with fresh tortillas and very fresh. I had basic cheese enchiladas and was so happy when not just the plate was hot but the enchiladas were hot and the tortillas were substantial and not watery.
