This is unexpectedly some of the best Mexican food I've had in the Baton Rouge area. We were hungry and it wasn't far from where we were so we gave it a try. The inside was very clean, you can see to the back in the kitchen area and that was also very tidy. All of the food had very good flavor. Everything tasted fresh and seemed to be prepared with a lot of care. The service was amazing. We also ordered a kids cheeseburger with fries and some wings that aren't pictured. Both of those were cooked well and tasted good too. I will be going here when I want some Mexican food to-go now.

This was the best Mexican food I've had. Everything was FANTASTIC. The service, drinks and food were all top notch. This place is so underrated. If you are in Baton Rouge you need to come here.

Inside was fairly clean, but gave off the impression of being very cluttered and dirty. Server greeted us and told us to sit wherever. Don't think there's tap water on the menu, so bottled drinks only. Like your typical Mexican restaurant with complimentary chips and salsa and refried beans. Pretty standard taste for the two dips and chips, with the chips being heavily salted. Started with a sampler plate, and while I am not well versed in Mexican cuisine, the taquitos were good. The crema on top, and the other sauces on the side all tasted a little weird though. Bacon wrapped stuffed jalapeños were decent. Had a good crisp on the bacon and it's hard to go wrong with cream cheese. Wings were okay, but the mango habanero sauce was more mango than habanero, and weren't really crispy. The torta was huge and came with a plate full of seasoned fries. Unfortunately the torta we ordered pretty much came with every kind of meat and the flavors were all mixed up and didn't blend well together (what you'd expect). The tacos were standard corn tortilla tacos that came with onions and cilantro, with a lime on the side and some roasted vegetables and a pepper. I will say that the tacos were jam packed, but nothing stood out too much when it came to flavor. The birria taco left me a little wanting, especially compared to birria y barbacoa, but the consume was good. All in all, the meal was very filling, and I'd rate this place a 3.5, but I doubt I'd come back here when there are tons of other great and affordable Mexican spots in BR

This is a hidden gem of br the staff is always so friendly and the food is amazinggg. The vibe of restaurant is very laid back and I always enjoy my time when I go!

OMG... what a yummy spot that has been sleepy secret until NOW…read more... The food is so fresh, authentic and delicious. Dinner starts with complementary chips and salsa that are super yummy. Got the trio dip that has this cheesy gooey queso , corn with herbs and cheese and chunky guacamole. We order the carne asada and poncho mixto. The freshness of the food. I will go back and continue to try a new dishes ! But they also have tacos and burritos. The drinks were good too!!! Service was awesome. Gloria was our waitress and she provided some assistance with the choices made. We ate in the bar area. The ambiance of the restaurant is super cute for a girls night out or a first dinner date or a date night with that special someone.

It wasn't spicy like most salsa that I taste, but it also had a different flavor. I couldn't really put my finger on what the difference was, but it was really good. I ordered the Carne Asada and it was 10 out of 10 for presentation. The dish came steaming, sizzling and smoking as they sat it down and it continued to do so for over a minute. While the steak was cooked properly, medium well as I requested, it was very tough. Maybe it was an angry cow. Regardless, the staff was very attentive. And the service was very fast. Ambience was nice and it felt very comfortable although it was a bit cold so I had to go and get a jacket for my mom and my sister-in-law. I would give them another try the next time I'm in the area. The menu had a few options that I would be interested in.

We have been regular customers here weekly for over two years…read more Jim Uridales goes out of his way to cook the most delicious cuisine in our area. There are many choices on the menu. Tonight I got Spanish coffee and a chili relleno. The Spanish coffee is an alcohol drink that can be used as a dessert. Yummy! The chili rellenllo was filled with dellicious ground seasoned beef. It has a coating and is deep fried. The pulled pork quesadillas are so yummy- this is what my hubby got tonight. I like the way the seating is here. There are booths and tables and all are comfortable. Though you may be sitting near another table, the acoustics are such that others talking are not bothersome. This is a pet peeve for me- many times I would rather eat at home - but here, the restaurant here feels like our family now. They are known for their delicious margaritas; but the bar can mix most any drink . I love Mestizos, the yummy food and varied menu mmm is the word! My husband and I are self proclaimed foodies. We love most everything on their menu. The chefs Dad owned a Mexican restaurant in Baton Rouge for years- " Carlos" Uridales inspired his son, Jim, to open his own restaurant. Mestizos has been in business for over 25 years. Jim Uridales and his crew are also benevolent members of Baton Rouge and they are a service oriented group of professionals. The menu prices are slightly higher on some items, however, scallops with shrimp here are very delicious and perfectly browned in a buttery flavored manner and this menu item sells for 30 dollars and it's the most costly entree on the menu. Their tapas menu is more budget friendly and delicious. I urge you to try this delicious menu for yourself. We love their catering department too!

And today I say with absolute sincerity (but slightly tongue in cheek), that the best meal I ever had in Mexico City was in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. If Michelin ever gives stars in Baton Rouge, Mestizo should on the list. Try the scallops in mole verde and the salmon in mole pistachio.

We came on a Sunday, and I got a delicious brunch!…read more The restaurant wasn't busy for an early lunch, so we got seated right away. Immediately upon walking in, I loved all of the colors and the vibes of this Mexican restaurant. When you sit down, they bring chips and salsa to your table. I wasn't a huge fan of the salsa or the chips. The chips had some seasoning on them and to me, it didn't mix well with the salsa. The salsa was really thin, and I prefer a chunky salsa with a salted thick chip lol. I was feeling adventurous and got the French toast on the brunch menu. It was delicious! The berry compote and the two different syrups paired really well with it. The bacon that it came with was perfection. I ate every last bite. I did have a bite of my friends tacos, and they were good but on smaller side in my opinion. Our waitress was great and there were plenty of tvs to watch while we waited. But, we never waited long for anything!

This is definitely Tex-Mex rather than traditional Mexican, but it hits the spot if that's what you're craving. The real standout is the decor and ambiance, especially after renovating and expanding. It's a fantastic space to hang out and chitchat with friends over dinner. The service has always been great and efficient for me. I can't remember the server I often got - maybe Joshua? Their yearly Cinco de Mayo party is also always fun and a vibe! Overall, still a solid spot in Baton Rouge for Tex-Mex and close to LSU campus.
