A few texts later and I was in touch with Tina with Goin' To The Dog's. Best decision ever. Tina has been so patient with all of my questions and made it super easy to drop off and pick up Muji. It takes two weeks for basic obedience training, and one extra week if you want to add off-leash training. We were getting married and going on our honeymoon immediately after, so the timing worked out perfectly for the three weeks of training. When we picked him up from GTTD he was SUPER happy. I don't think it was just because we were back, either. He was all smiles while running around the large lot. It was a relief to see he was in such a great mood. We were feeling guilty about leaving him for so long, but after picking him up it was clear that we had nothing to worry about. Our biggest problem with Muji was that he would not stay in a sit or down position. He also wouldn't come when called. I posted a video showing him coming to M when called when we picked him up. I'd say he has it down! Tina will coach you through the commands so you're not going home unprepared. She explained the commands and what Muji was trained to do, and even explained the process. It was helpful to hear tips on what to avoid so he doesn't backtrack in his training. Something we have to work on is not saying "okay" before a command. It comes so naturally and we have already caught ourselves doing it. This was something she mentioned and I don't think we would have noticed it otherwise. We could not have asked for a better experience with dog training. Don't feel guilty like I did for dropping off your dog to obedience school. Your pup will be in great hands and Tina is ridiculously good at what she does. She had Muji walking properly on a leash in less than 5 minutes of meeting him! We live almost 2 hours away and it was definitely worth the drive. Just a note, your GPS may tell you to turn left onto Pear to get to her place but ignore it. Instead, continue on until you see the driveway with a sign for her business. Tips to be successful: If her schedule permits, give your dog a couple of days of regular boarding so he/she can get used to the property. Our schedule just worked out that Muji needed to be boarded for 3 extra days and it helped him get acquainted. If you have multiple people who will be involved in taking care of your dog, bring them at pick-up so everyone is on the same page. Choose one person who will lead the training process for the first couple of weeks before having anyone else use the commands.

First, the kennel is a field trip away from our house, but it is well worth the ride. The area, and the grounds are amazing! Lots of room, shady trees, outside kennels, and fields for the dogs to run. The inside kennels are spacious and clean, with heated floors. My Max is still young and crazy, but Patti had him eating out of her hand during our first visit to tour the kennel. When we went back for his stay, he walked right in without looking back. They provide food, but we took his regular food in a bucket for them to use. They also provide grooming and training, and this is definitely our go for upcoming travel and family events.

My dog has been....... unpredictable when it comes to meeting people and other dogs, and recently decided to eat our couch. This is on top of barking continuously at noises outside and jetting out the door when it's opened (she's been skunked twice because of this). She DOES hear me when I used to tell her to come, but instead of coming to me, she'd wag her tail and chase whatever's more important in the back bushes. After just ONE session with Jenn, we completely re-focused my dog's attention and have since addressed every one of our concerns AND have recently started scent-training, which has kept our doggo super mentally stimulated. Updating my review to say how incredibly happy I am with Powerhouse K9! My puppy is now 8 months…read moreold and has spent a total of 5 weeks here (3 weeks for board-and-train and 2 weeks for regular boarding). As a first-time puppy owner, I wasn't sure what to expect or if puppies just naturally outgrow certain behavioral issues. Either way, this is the only formal training she has ever had, and the results speak for themselves. She came back so incredibly well-behaved. And has reminded well behaved. When we go out in public, people always come up to see her because she's cute, but what they *constantly* comment on is how exceptionally well-behaved she is for an 8-month-old puppy. It is so validating to hear that from strangers! I love and fully agree with Anthony's methods and what he does here. If you want a well-behaved dog, Powerhouse K9 is the only place to go. Eden promptly responded to my initial email and patiently answered all of my questions. It was hard having him so far away (I am based in Palo Alto), but I would drive twice as far to have Eden take care of my dog. Each day Eden would post a photo on Facebook, so I could watch him grow and she was always available to talk on the phone if I wanted an update. Eden transformed my 3 month old puppy into a well-trained, well-socialized, very happy dog. My puppy knows how to come, sit, stay, leave it, drop it, shake, and walk on a leash. He now comes with me to work and is the best-trained dog in my office. Now that my puppy has graduated from board and train, I look forward to using Sierra Dogs as a boarding place. (FYI: It's a convenient location for people who are heading up to Tahoe for the weekend.) I highly recommend Sierra Dogs!
