This kennel is fabulous! I was hesitant to bring my rescue, Max, to a kennel at all. We had a wedding, and the days around it were going to be CRAZY, so I went on a search. First, the kennel is a field trip away from our house, but it is well worth the ride. The area, and the grounds are amazing! Lots of room, shady trees, outside kennels, and fields for the dogs to run. The inside kennels are spacious and clean, with heated floors. My Max is still young and crazy, but Patti had him eating out of her hand during our first visit to tour the kennel. When we went back for his stay, he walked right in without looking back. They provide food, but we took his regular food in a bucket for them to use. They also provide grooming and training, and this is definitely our go for upcoming travel and family events. read more

I wanted to make sure he was given the best care along with giving several medications every day. I was lucky to get the last open kennel right before Thanksgiving. Chris was familiar with my pup's problems and the kennel is privately owned. After meeting Chris I knew she was a "dog person" and I felt comfortable leaving him.When I picked up my dog 3 days later he looked well cared for (and not stressed like some other experiences we have had). I could tell his meds had been given- he had a skin infection that continued to heal. If he didn't get the meds his infection would have flared up. This is by Far the best Kennel around! Top notch service from the time you show up and ring in, all the way to when your closing the gate saying bye. We've been housing our dogs at Country Kennels for 14 years. We love it, and more importantly, our dogs love it. So much so that we make the drive from Elk Grove (40 minutes each way) just to go there. They have large runs, nice outdoor areas, and a very caring staff. No one here is charging $5 for a belly rub! Love comes free! The most telling sign for us is that when we drop off our dog, he dashes off and doesn't seem to give us even a parting glance. "A weekend in the country hanging out with these nice people and all my canine friends? Off I go!" Once there, we knew we had found a true shady shangrala hangout for our old Brittany and chantilly cat. I was impressed with the friendly professional owners and staff and loved how spacious and clean the individual quarters were. From the moment we left for a week out of state, we had no concerns about their environment, safety, healthcare and comfort. We were especially pleased that the owners and staff included a veterinarian and vet techs and operated as a family.. While on vacation they updated us on bealth needs of our dog and grooming needs of out cat. We were pleased with personal attention, the extra care and communication. I have boarded my two Jack Russell mixes here three times. While it's a good drive away from Sacramento, it's so worth it. My dogs come back more docile and well behaved. I think of this place as doggy boarding schooling. They are always super tired from running around the playing with other dogs. There is a nice outdoor pen for them to hang out in during the day and at night, the floors are heated, so you don't have to worry about them getting cold. Because it's an outdoor, country environment, there's no foul animal smells pent up and the dogs seem very happy to visit. I recommend this place for your doggies too. read more

WOW Amazing facility! Took my foster Pom/Chi's in for a clean up and I am so impressed! The indoor kennels for cats/dogs smell completely clean! Not like chemical clean, just very well maintained clean. The floors are clean, sinks, tubs, grooming area are all immaculate! I have been to restaurants (didn't stay) that are not as clean as this facility. My Fosters are a little skittish but Patti, the groomer, had complete control of the situation. She was very calming and made Jazzy & Maverick relax and enjoy their Spa time! Patti was so GREAT I asked if she did people too :) AMAZING PEOPLE! They LOVE animals and it shows! read more

I started bringing my dog here 3 yrs ago. The entire crew is excellent. Very attentive to your pet and their customers. I used to bring my dog to another Kennel but every time I brought him back home, he would have this kennel cough which usually last for 3-4 days, but at the Country Kennels, he never showed any of this symptom. This was not our first time boarding here, so I was really taken aback by my experience this time. This review is based upon the experience I had at drop off this visit. It was unlike anything I have ever experienced from an animal service provider. On drop off from 7 am - 10 am this past Thursday, July 2, I thought I had arrived a couple of minutes late. This was based on the "welcome" I received from Patty. Instead of being greeted with the normal "hello" or "good morning" I was yelled at that, "the walkies were already inside and normally there's a $65 charge for late arrivals." This was after pulling up to the kennel drop off area, getting all dog supplies and dogs out of the car, and looking for the walkie to call in that I was here. I apologized, and said I was worried that I may be a couple minutes late because I was stuck behind two Caltrans trucks who were on there way to a road repair nearby the facility. I was then told, "you just don't seem to get it...and would a bank wait for you if you were late..." I asked again what time drop off ended -- if in fact it was over before 10 am at say 9:45, and I was told, no and clearly I don't understand or get it that this business does these things for a reason. The berating continued and at one point, I began to walk back to my vehicle with my dogs saying if this was causing so much inconvenience, I would have my husband bring them tomorrow, since we had had a change in plans with his departure. I was told not to be ridiculous and that would be a waste of time...so I continued back to dropping off my dogs. I was so shaken, I mentioned that I did not appreciate being humiliated and I was then told, "we all have days when we feel like crying..." What? Well, let's just say I did not feel like crying. I was really taken by surprise. And honestly, I was angry at how I, the customer, was being treated. Once the dogs were taken from me to the kennel area and Patty stopped to talk to one of the staff members near the kennel, I returned back to my car and picked up my cell phone for the GPS time (I wish now that I would have had my phone in my hand at my greeting). After all this craziness, it was 10:04 am. When Patty returned and I indicated what time it was when she was at the kennel, the whole diatribe began again. At this point, I think she has assumed I would have left, but I waited after she had walked away, as I had wanted to ask questions regarding high temperatures forecasted and how the dogs are handled during those timeframes. This was a brief conversation and I was still incredibly uncomfortable. I left upset and worried. I honestly questioned my decision to have turned the dogs over after all of that, but I also felt that I might be out any care for my dogs over the 4th if I looked elsewhere. As a side note, this facility is not in town, it's out in the country, and certainly when you have a scheduled drop off, one would think that there would be a little flexibility in that sometimes things happen outside of our control. I could also understand if I showed up say at 10:15 or 10:30 and had no regard for the kennel's schedule. But what bothered me even more as I drove off, was that I have referred friends to this facility because I was so impressed in the past with the facility, it's cleanliness, country location, service, etc. Today upon pick up, I will say, I was nervous about what I might experience. However, I was pleasantly greeted by Chris, whom I had not met before. As I gathered the dogs things, and she indicated the dogs would be up shortly, I prepared to write my check and we chatted about the holiday. My two dogs were boarded together for four (4) 24-hr periods. However when I picked them up today with Chris the final price seemed too low (she initially said the total was $100.00 but that didn't align with the $19/per dog/per day). She recalculated the price, and that was based on 5 days which I questioned, since the 5th day was today, and they were picked up at 9 am. Chris was very friendly and polite and explained that this is based on labor and kennel industry standards. But I remain a little confused, because I have picked up the dogs before in the morning and not paid for the whole day. In the end, I am happy to have my dogs home, but very likely will be looking for new boarding arrangements in the future. read more

I've been going to country kennels for about 4 years and have always been very pleased with the service, cleanliness, and care that was provided. Chris and Patti do a wonderful job making sure you are taken care of and make you feel comfortable when picking up and dropping off. Previously when I was unable to board with country kennels and witnessing other kennels' lack of cleanliness let alone customer service this has been my go-to facility to take my animals, in fact, I would go out of my way to have my dogs boarded here. I really enjoy that the dogs all get to go out for fresh air twice a day in the outdoor kennels and the entire kennel gets cleaned, rather than spot cleaning and leaving the smell to linger. My dogs love coming to country kennels and I get to have peace of mind knowing they are safe and being cared for as if they were their own. read more

I have been using this kennel FOREVER. I was happy and in agreement with all of the great reviews they have received but very irritated by the review left by "SS". Just so everyone knows, Chris and Patti are lovely, ethical people who do NOT go out of their way to berate or belittle anyone, especially a customer! The hours and prices are VERY clear and this person obviously put her own needs above those who run the kennel. SHOW UP during business hours like the rest of us. You know it's off the beaten path so PLAN a cushion of time to get there or don't bother going. I highly doubt you were berated but I wouldn't blame anyone for admonishing a LATE customer who thinks and assumes it is their right to tell the business they should stay open outside their regular hours in order to accommodate them. And yes, a few minutes DO count because we all know it takes time to get our dogs in/out with all their gear and goodies. read more
