Paella de Pollo

We had received a coupon for Don Quijote from a friend which drew us in. The service was impeccable. Our drinks and complimentary bread were provided quickly. The paella de pollo was delicious and quite the generous portion. After dinner, we were given two samples of port wine on the house. Needless to say, we will be back.

Don Q We rolled into town, and what a pleasant surprise it was to find this place I think it should've had higher stars on the reviews. We ordered the paella, I thought it was pretty good, but always too much rice, lol. I absolutely love the peppers and onions that they gave us for an appetizer but my all-time favorite besides Alana's mothers recipe for a dessert, I loved the app with the chicken livers, one of the best chicken liver dishes I have ever eaten! You are so fat stuff, some of your indoor market, which was fabulous. Ed, George, Alanta, Logan, Roberto and Alyssa. Thank you for making our night so fun and the added entertainment, the music was great. I WOULD RECOMMEND

I moved away from valpo 12 years ago... 12 years is a long time to go without Don Quijote. We even managed to come in on an evening with live music. Both my heart and my soul were fed. I know it sounds funny but one of my favorite things is the garlic potatoes. I always get an extra order to take home with me. The Paella was amazing as always. The ingredients are always so fresh! Our server was very playful and fun with us during the evening. And very attentive. And if you go, always accept the port, it is amazing.

Always a family favorite. Finish up with a glass of port. We almost always get the fish and chicken paella. Wait staff and owners very attentive. Live music is a great time. A Valpo staple!

We are from out of town and just stopped in for a half hour after hiking at the dunes. The service was dismal. No energy, no suggestions or recommendations no care. The drinks were very confusing, the menu was very poorly laid out and I couldn't understand what anything meant. A Tsunami or Hurricane as the names of hard ciders, Very confusing. The waitress didn't explain anything or share or try to help. The food. The worst I've seen, I wish I took a picture to share. We got the chicken tenders just to hold us over for dinner. The smallest chicken tenders I've ever seen. It looked like something bought from Great Value Brand at Walmart. Obviously Frozen and not fresh. They are closing next week... hopefully their next venture is better!

This is a woman owned business and is dog friendly as well - both are wins in my book. I would love to come back in the summer for one of their slushies. I got a wine flight and everything was fantastic. They also have great ciders! The food was pretty good, we shared the buffalo cauliflower and the Tso good tendies (way spicier than we thought).

The patatas bravas were flavorful. The garlic shrimp was cooked perfectly. The fried calamari was the only dish that missed the mark for us, as it was a bit too greasy. The highlight of the meal was the seafood paella. Both the shrimp and scallops were cooked perfectly, but what really impressed us was the rice. Paella can be difficult to get right, and the rice had excellent texture and flavor, making the dish a pleasure to eat. We ended with the butterscotch custard which was perfect and the almond caramel bar. After several disappointing dining experiences during our short trip to Chicago, Café Ba-Ba-Reeba finally delivered a meal that left us satisfied. The service was great. She was attentive and efficient. We'd gladly come back.

Made last minute reservations for brunch next day after the infamous architecture tour. It was quiet as we've put in an early morning. All the more better to savor all intricate dishes from start to finish. Like the name, The Purple Pig, their specialty is pork dishes so majority of our orders were this. Daily special of the bone marrow bacon jam toast - glazed, slippery off the bone, savory and sweet. Always love a good bone marrow dish to get the sweetness off it. This was so good that there were bits of the marrow and jam left stuck to the bone, I took a piece of the toast and scooped the bone dry. Nothing left for anyone to attack this. Non pork dishes were the Mushroom 3 ways and Spanish octopus. Mushroom dish was savory with all the coated sauces elevating this. Spanish octopus was kicked lightly and easily can bite in to enjoy the tender and charred portions. But the award went to my main course - the braised pork shoulder with saffron, apricots and Swiss chard. Aside from the rippable pork meat when dining on it, the sauces fused together on this dish elevated it and had everyone coming back for more. I needed an official Chicago culinary experience and found it at The Purple Pig without a doubt.
