I wouldn't normally rate this restaurant that high... but I am BECAUSE it's one of the few options in Chesterton with organic food + friendly service. On our way home in 3 separate busses from The Field Museum in Chicago, we stopped at Chesterton, IN to get a quick dinner in 50 min or less. Quickly, we ran to Taco Bell to get my son his desired hard shell taco, and then crossed the road to Lemon Tree Mediterranean Grill for something more "adult". The staff were so nice and let me have free samples of almost everything while telling me about the owner's passion to use quality ingredients and hand made healthful and delicious salads such as tabbouleh, carrot salad and more! I opted to get a small bowl of chicken lemon and rice soup. It was very good. I had to save room for Smoothie King later. We were the only people from the 3 busses that dared to cross the road and I'm happy we did. Will come back the next time we need a snack or nosh on the way to or from Chicago. Thank you! read more

Every single time I come to lemon tree the food is always exceptional. Cheese town is my hometown and we were very lucky when lemon tree got put in. The service is always good. Yesterday when I went, I discovered that a few of my former classmates actually work there and that was a delightful surprise. It is very quiet inside. I will say the only downfall right now is that their air conditioning is struggling to keep up in the building. That is no fault of the employees but the owner definitely needs to get that taken care of. I will for sure be back next week. It has become a weekly dining spot for me. I love the rice bowl with steak. I get an extra pita, and I stuffed the pita with the contents of the bowl and it is phenomenal. read more

A Mediterranean Gem in Chesterton! My husband and I stopped into Lemon Tree Mediterranean and were absolutely blown away. We both had bowls with half chicken shawarma and half steak--each bite was bursting with flavor. The jasmine rice base was warm and fluffy, and we loaded up on all the fresh toppings: crisp cucumbers, juicy tomatoes, kalamata olives, feta, red onion--you name it. The real standouts? Their garlicky garlic sauce and spicy yogurt. SO good! It reminded me of a Mediterranean version of Chipotle, but way fresher and more flavorful. You get to build your own bowl, wrap, or salad, and they have amazing sides like grilled veggies, hummus, tabouleh, and even lentil or lemon chicken soup. The owners, David and Lisa, were so welcoming and kind--they really make you feel at home. As a previous reviewer said, love the concept! It is like Qdoba or Chipotle -- you select your meat, toppings, sauce, etc as you work down the line. Food was fresh, flavorful, not overly sauced or spiced, and the variety was perfect. Excellent hummus and red cabbage salad! A diamond in the "fast food rough" We got off the interstate looking for some dinner & found this great little spot in the middle of all the fast food places. I had the chicken shawarma bowl & she has the kabob salad bowl & both were delicious. You pick your meet the. 2 sides & garnish and then sauces and of course they give you the pita bread to go with! My friend and I dined here after visiting Mt Baldy in Michigan City, and we really enjoyed our meal! The woman behind the counter was friendly, had a survivor tattoo on her chest, and had a great personality! We sat outside in their patio because the weather was warm. The patio is pleasant and has lights for when it gets dark out. There is plenty of parking out front, the bathroom was clean and had adequate supplies, and the condiments area was neat and organized. I ordered a mix of chicken kabob and falafel and added various toppings including olives and hummus. All of the ingredients were fresh, tasty, and worked well together! I've been a big fan of Lemon tree's mediterran bowls for many years. I am so grateful to have a healthy food option, with quality ingredients, on the ready, right here in Chesterton. My office is nearby, so I've had the chance to see this business step up their game during this pandemic. I am impressed with the hard work and dedication I've been a witness to. Each morning, when they fire up their new oven, the whole neighborhood smells Amazing! If it's your first time, I recommend the garlicky garlic sauce to top off whatever you decide to get. We have gone here every Monday for the last 4 years pretty much. This place is going to crap. Talking with employees once again, it seems as though most of the issues stem from the owner. Super stingy with the smallest things along with excessive price increases for a place that used to be and still resembles a subway. We are trying our best to stick around but it seems like the past 5-6 weeks there has been multiple things wrong each and every time. Next Monday we will be trying Zorro's in La Porte instead since it's the same distance away. Just read Lemon Trees reviews from the last year. Not the only people realizing the issues. read more

I came here for a late lunch break after visiting several farms in the vicinity on Saturday September 11, 2021. My rating is mainly based upon my first visit experience here. First off, the woman who took my order was not friendly at all. She didn't say hello or welcome, even after I told her that it was my first visit?!? Being my first time I wanted to try more than one item so I decided to a small order of rice kabob chicken bowl and a falafel pita sandwich. After waiting for her to assemble the order I find myself waiting to pay. Maybe she is having a bad day? Well, as I am paying they ask for a tip up front even though there is no table service. I said to myself well maybe she is having a bad day so will tip nicely to hopefully brighten her day. I even said , "Have a nice day!", after paying and she did not even respond to my nice monetary or verbal gestures?!? Just based on her behavior I would not return here or recommend the place. Well, how was the food? Actually the food was good, but the portions were very small. I was still hungry afterwards?!? For $10 I received a tiny skewer of chicken, two tiny scoops of rice, and about two table spoons worth of tabbouleh salad, and a small scoop of hummus. (A chicken rice bowl at Chiplotle cost less and is full of chicken and I am absolutely full when I am done eating.) As for the sandwich, it only had 3 very small falafel balls that were hard to find in the small pita. To their credit the hummus was very delicious, but like I said, I was still hungry afterwards. There could be a little bit of a wait if there are a few people there because each order is custom made. I was suspicious about this place the moment I walked in. Not one customer in the entire restaurant on a Saturday night at 6:30. I ordered anyway and was extremely disappointed. First I ordered rice in a bowl. Well it's not a bowl, it's a small tray about 4 x 5 inches and maybe an inch deep. Three small scoops of rice. Next I chose chicken shawarma. Two small scoops. Then one small scoop of hummus and one of tabouli. That's it. Enough food for a child but no where enough for a grown adult. Rice wasn't completely cooked and the chicken was tasteless! And this small portion costs $12.25. Not good. I do not recommend this place! read more

I tried this for lunch and it was very unsatisfying. They are trying to imitate Cava, but fall short in many ways except the price. 16$ for a large bowl (about 1/3 the size of cava) and you pay extra for a pita that looks like it came out of the local grocery store. Chicken was disgusting and isn't grilled fresh like Cava, instead it is out of some watery bowl. Overall the portion for very small, the food was gross, and it was very overpriced. We had the Feast Bowl and the Lemon Chicken Rice Soup and it was delicious! The grilled zucchini on top of the herbed rice was super fresh and cooked just right and the shawarma and the beef were very tasty. Loved the falafel with the herbed sauce and some tahini -so good. Awesome little fast casual spot for Mediterranean inspired food. The falafel was perfectly cooked and was great in the wrap. The purple cabbage salad and hummus were very well balanced and had nice flavor and wasn't overpowering. The home made chips were perfectly crunchy and salty and hit the spot. Do yourself a favor and get the lentil soup... It's absolutely awesome. Had I not been traveling, I would have definitely gotten a quart to go. This place used to be really delicious. Something has to be going on here because my experience this evening was nothing like it has ever been in the past.My husband and I have been regular customers for several years. We live in Valparaiso. This evening after seeing a movie, at about 4 PM, we decided to drive to Chesterton specifically to get food from lemon tree. Right away, we felt that something was definitely off. The way she was preparing our wraps was out of the ordinary. Less than half the normal ingredients were put into our wraps. At one point my husband asked for lettuce and we literally watched her put two small scraps of lettuce onto his wrap. I ordered a roasted vegetable wrap. When the "vegetables" came out of the oven, I noticed that there was only zucchini on the tray. I inquired about this and she said that only squash and zucchini are included in the roasted vegetable wrap. That seems odd, but my wrap only included zucchini. After she pulled a few slices of the zucchini off of the tray, she left three pieces on the tray and did not include them in my wrap, Which I thought was odd. When we we're paying for our order, we noticed that no chips had been included. I inquired about this as we always enjoy the chips and know that this is a side that always comes with a wrap. She informed us that there were no chips today. So I asked her if we could get something else for our side since there were no chips and she said yes, but there would be an up charge. I finally asked to see a manager at which point this Young girl gave me a sarcastic smirk and told me no problem that she would get the manager. We spoke with him and he said that evidently, this young girl had not been trained properly and did not know the answers to any of these questions. We took our food to our table and about five minutes later, that same manager came out of the back room with two small bags of chips and apologized and said that the chips had not been prepared. We have never had an experience like this at lemon tree. We left feeling very irritated and frustrated. The food itself was way below lemon tree standards. The wraps were not wrapped properly and fell apart after the first bite, they were also about 50% smaller than usual. This is just an incredible disappointment because we love this restaurant. TERRIBLE! HORRIBLE! Absolutely disgusting! Don't buy! Don't eat here. if there's anything less than 1I would have given them. They deserve a minus star. First ordered my food online and drove 30 minutes to pick up and 30 minutes drive back ! But guess what? half of the order is missing, and the one that's there takes like poison ! and has an oozing smell. we called the restaurant back and they told us to come back so they can make it right. But lord and behold after another 30 minutes drive back the thieves said they weren't going to refund nor are least provide the missing items from the order. To add injury to the pain , they had the effrontery to call the COPS AND lied saying that we threatened to shoot themlike whatoh I get it racism at it's highest! Before i know it there were more than 10 cops cars when the cops arrived, even they couldn't believe it! like seriously? The Cops were really nice and apologetic over the whole thing. If you are vegetarian, they also serve vegetarian feast bowls with falalfal zuchhini and cabbage salad. If you want be big portions of meat and fancy dining experience, this is not the place.
