I was recommend to Don by my coworker. He went out and about on her custody case. My case was about my child's education and for me to have more say of that matter. I originally had an equal say with my child's mom. End result was that I didn't get absolutely everything I had asked (that's on the judge and the assessor assigned to my case) but I did get a major win in a few things, specially in getting final say regarding my child's education. I was ecstatic at the results that I didn't think was possible. Donald prepared me for the right things to say to the assessor assigned to my case without having to lie or be sneaky. He told me how things may go if I am granted certain things before going to court. The court granted it and things happened how Don said it would. There was one mistake Don did make way before court but he took credit for the mistake and worked things out. I bring this up because someone who takes credit for a mistake is trustworthy and showed care for my case. If you ever want to experience a piece of hell, call this rude, immature, pathetic excuse for a lawyer. This guy is a complete, and total jerk. Don't call him unless you wanna hear him talk nonstop, really fast for 30 minutes. He'll tell you not to interrupt when he's interrupting the WHOLE time!!! It seriously sounded like he was tweaked/coked out of his mind. I had to hold the phone up in the air for like 5 minutes while he kept blabbing on and on. The nerve of this guy. He wouldn't let me get a word in edgewise; and yet insisted on telling me personal stories about his life, family etc. Unbelivable! It was like watching a really, really bad movie that didn't end and you couldn't get out of it. He was so narcissistic; he didn't even care or check to see if I was even listening. And when I tried to talk it was literally like: Me: "Wha...." Don: "blah blah blah blah blah blah blah Me: "And.." Don: "blah blah blah blah blah It was hilarious and unreal. How do people like this exist in the world? I didn't even feel like I was on the other end of the line. I wish I could explain this better! It was like something out of the twilight zone. This guy has zero communication skills and I have no idea how the judge deals with this guy. No wonder he charges the least out of all the other, mature lawyers I've spoken too. Now I know why the other ones are worth 600 an hour. Anyway, so after 20 minutes of incessant talking and him not letting me get in a single word in--literally- and when I tried he kept talking and talking over it, he then said he refused to say the same spiel to my boyfriend and I had to relay all this technical jargon to him myself when I didn't even understand half the things he was saying that were sandwiched in between his stupid personal stories. When I tried to explain it to him he wouldn't let me talk back--of course--and he hung up on me, all the while talking, talking, talking, Wow, what a joke. More than 15 years ago I retained Don Desimone to handle my side of an impending divorce. He helped me through the process, the forms, the filings, the meeting with opposing counsel...etc. As it played out the divorce never happened, instead the case sat dormant for over a decade. Retirement meant all this had to be resolved - and this is really the time Don gained my highest respect. A special form was required to assure the court of the end of the divorce action so that assets could be dealt with normally. I expected to pay for this service but Don said there was still money on the books from the original retainer payment. I would not have remembered, he did. That's ethical in a big way! Wow there is actually a honest attorney who cares and is reasonably priced ! Here is the diamond in the rough. In this world a lot of things happen that are horrible and something happens that we don't deserve. Therefore, we have to hire help to prove our innocence or fix a situation. I have experience with a previous different attorney which is totally different from the experience I have had with Don. With the other attorney I felt he was just taking my money and I had zero support, zero care and I was just paying him to talk to the other party. That is the worst feeling that you could feel. Two stars for one reason. He actually responds. The lawyer he pawned me off to - John K - he's awful. Nice guy, but awful. Never prepared, never ready. I had my DVRO last week and the man came unprepared. Apparently there was an exchange between the lawyers and he claimed "I wouldn't budge" when that wasn't true. He never told the lawyer what I would have offered. I'm a deaf cochlear wearing individual. Don knew that from the get go. Whenever he would call, he would go on and on and on and I would never get a word in or have the moments to make sure I heard him correctly. He hates repeating himself and expects you to get everything in one shot. I know how New Yorkers act (I'm from New England) and he acts like a hardcore one but it's RUDE to be dismissive to any clients to want to make sure they do everything correctly. Don ended up recusing himself from my custody case because him and John messed up on responding to a parentage suit. He first claimed he was in court and then claimed he had a health issue and couldn't not reconcile my case. Even spelled my name "Sharrox" .. just wow can't even get my first name right. I went into default for the suit because John K said not to respond. I wanted to make sure I could contest the default or that John did his job to set the default aside. He didn't - and I couldn't do anything on my own because i was represented. Hence my conversation above with Don. I was refunded money I put forthwith because they knew they messed up. John K denied ever having the conversation of the parentage suit when I was sitting with him for 40 minutes. That's pretty tough to forget... Luckily I knew the law of custody orders better than them.. and was able to research Family Code after the assistance of another attorney and saw my child's father was in violation of Family Code 6340(a) which details custody orders established during a DVRO survive the termination or expiration of said DVRO. They both told me there were no orders in place when in fact it was false and my child's dad withheld my child from me. I know how to be proactive and threw the book at him for violating court orders and it's getting reconciled. They are not great lawyers. Adequate but not great. They are used to doing things their way and probably will not go the extra mile that they need to for certain cases. Don may, but I think he's overworked and he would just pawn it off and it'll never get the results needed. I would not recommend them if you need sharks. Another father told me his experience with Don's firm costing him $40k. And the firm barely did anything for him.. just dragged it out for money. Sharks do better for that type of butter. After I had already given him well over $5000 he blocked my phone calls when I couldn't just drop everything for his random expenses. Donald Desimone understands the deeply personal and urgent nature of family law and divorce, and so does his assistant team that were always there to answer my questions. When I finally accepted I needed an attorney to help me with my divorce, I called many people and though many attorney's were personable and prompt, Donald felt like he "got it"- he remembered every detail I told him, he didn't berate me for my (many) mistakes I made trying to settle things myself, and he did not try to "sell" me on him. Every single time I needed to reach out to Donald or his team, my email or call was responded to within an hour or less. He was honest about where we were in the process, what we could achieve, and what to expect. I also love that when he or Myla is not available, they have a support staff that still answers and takes in depth messages so he can respond ASAP. Since divorce is personally financed, cost is always a concern, and I found Donald to be competitive, but considering his track record, education and experience, do not expect a "bargain" rate (nor should you want one, this is an area you don't want to settle for second best). Donald has a very good reputation (he was actually recommended by two other attorneys I know) and he has earned it. I suspect anyone with anything other than a glowing review is more expressing their frustration with the very challenging/personal nature of divorce and family law, I know sometimes things don't go your way in court, and there is nothing you can do so it's easy to blame your attorney or the judge. If I did have to go to trial (fortunately I haven't!) I'd be most comfortable with Donald by my side.
