We went to watch the amazing Cedric Newman, and let me tell you, the guy is HILARIOUS! He had us dying laughing the whole time. They should definitely book him again. And then, the food... oh man... it was great. First, the Donaleigh's Signature Burger, that burger was massive, juicy, and packed with flavor. It had a combination of the beef patty, crispy bacon, white cheddar, BBQ sauce, and onion crisps on a toasted sesame brioche bun. It was absolute magic. As for the sides (which you can pick either salad, fries, or soup of the day). I had fries, it was good, nothing special. Then, do not even get me started on the Chicken Club. My partner got it but I had a bite, it was like a party in my mouth. The Naan bread was soft and warm, and the filling was amazing: chicken, bacon, boiled egg, basil aioli... it was all so good. For his side dish, he got garden salad, which tasted fresh ( I got a bite of that too lol). I shared my fries ;-) Moving on, the service was great. Our server was super friendly and attentive, checking in on us regularly to make sure everything was okay. And the best part? Parking was a breeze! In Downtown Barrie. Free parking after 5pm (we parked at 9 Simcoe Street), just a 3-minute walk from the pub. Donaleigh's Irish Public House is killing it with their live events! They have got Genevieve Cyr and Nate Douglas performing soon, and The Rob Watts Band is taking the stage too. But honestly comedy shows are a must. We need more,especially since there is no YUK YUK comedy in Barrie. Hopefully, they will keep bringing in more comedians to make it a regular thing. read more

The beers and service was fantastic in this very bustling, slightly dingy local spot. I suspect we did not order the right things from the menu: I had the steak frites, which tasted like what I could expect from a cafeteria. My hubby had the fish and chips, which he said were okay, but not anything he would order again. However, I noted a number of locals demolishing heaps of their deep fried mac and cheese bites, wings, and various hand-helds, so perhaps follow the regulars when you order, lol. I felt like having supper at a pub tonight so walked along Dunlop Street E. There are about five pubs on this stretch of the street and Donaleighs caught my eye. When I walked in, the pub was packed. There weren't many free tables but I managed to get one. Yay! I ordered Hot Buffalo wings. They were okay ... not "crispy" as described, the batter was kind of mushy. The sauce was the usual hot sauce. What made the wing better was the buttermilk dill dip ... it was good. The draught selection is kind of bland ... the usual big brewery beers. Too bad since they have a craft brewery (Flying Monkeys) a block away. They did have my fav, Keith's, though. The vibe in the pub was happenin'. My server said the pub opened in June and has been pretty well packed since its opening. St. Paddy's Day celebrations should be jammed. I'd go back. read more

Let me start off by saying, yes their nachos were amazing! I had a bad experience (elsewhere) with bar made kettle cooked chips and haven't really tried them since. I broke the 'rules' this weekend and sampled their nachos and hooooooooly smokes were they tasty. One plate of these bad boys could easily feed two people. I had the fish n chips with Guinness gravy. The fries and gravy were where it's at! I thought they tasted so good. The tartar sauce and coleslaw were appetizing as well. The only problem was the batter. I thought the fish was good (be mindful of bones) but the batter could've used some improvement. A bit too thick in my opinion, leaving the outside crunchy but the inside still mushy. Instead of sending it back, I just picked the fish out and ate it with a few flakes of the crunchy coating. It's safe to say I like a light beer batter as these heavy ones tend to stay a bit gooey on the inside. My cousin had the chicken pot pie and thought it was scrumptious. It was served with the innards(gravy/chicken/veggies) on a plate and had the pastry on top. They also made a cute shamrock out of the pastry which I thought was a nice touch and very unique to Donaleighs. Another guest I was with had their Mulligatawny soup special and said that was really, really good. I'd go back for some drinks and sample other items off their menu but I will avoid their fish and chips. A great meal with generous portions at very reasonable prices. They have a reasonable selection of beer on tap. The Guinness battered haddock had great taste. There was lots of batter, lots of fish and the homemade tartar sauce adds a nice zing. The shepherds pie had some great artwork with the mashed on top. We spent a day in Barrie after picking up our daughter at Camp Ooch. We walked the lake front and wandered into the dining district of the downtown to find somewhere for lunch. The patio of Donaleighs was full but not jammed in a sunny, breezy Friday afternoon and we were able to sit outside on the charming patio. Ambiance was great, service was friendly and helpful with beer recommendations. I recommend the 3 speed lager from local Amsterdam brewery. Salt and Pepper wings were so good we had to order another pound and the Cobb salad was SO full of bacon and egg and chicken I couldn't finish it! First off the service was crap. We asked to sit at a vacant table on the patio and immediately were greeted with grief. Its not like 2 big guys could fit at a table for 2 given the fact that their tables are small as to accommodate as many seats as possible on the patio. When we finally did get to sit on the patio we were greeted by our server who didn't seem to happy we were there. It took a while for her to be nice to us but that statement I just made makes no sense. A server should be hospitable from the moment they greet you through to the end. The problem is, most servers believe that showing up for a shift is more then enough and then not giving a crap about the customer is ok because eitherway they are expecting you to pay their rent. Let's move on to the food. Ordered the burger. It was small and mediocre in taste. Wasn't impressed at all. Not sure how this place gets positive reviews unless they are writing it themselves because the food and service is atrocious. I've been here numerous times, most recently on a Friday night in November which happened to be my birthday. The boyfriend and I got there around 6:30 and it was packed. We were told there were 4 couples ahead of us, and since 4 didn't seem like a lot, we decided to wait. It took over an hour before we got a table, and although we were told we could wait at the bar, there was absolutely no room. We ended up being stuck at the door the entire time, along with a lot of other people who had also decided to wait for a table. It was extremely uncomfortable, and there was no comfortable room to wait. My favourite thing about this place is their Signature Burger. The whiskey sauce on it is fantastic. I've ordered it every time I've been here and have always been satisfied. The fries are good too, nothing outstandingly spectacular, but good enough that I crave them every once and a while. I also think the bar areas are beautiful, and the whole place has a very nice and cozy ambiance. I always have a good time here. The service has never been memorable, but at least I haven't had a bad experience. My only complaint aside from the overcrowding and seemingly chaotic wait-list for the tables is the inconsistencies of the drinks. They always seem to be served differently. Usually when I get baileys & coffee here it has whipped cream and a cherry on top. I ordered this on my birthday and it didn't have the whipped cream or cherry. This has happened a few times here, although it isn't a big deal. Perhaps the bartenders were just too busy or lazy to do it, I don't know, but I did miss the whipped cream! I tried the Angus burger and hand-cut fries here. The burger was good. The flavour was great - beefy and properly seasoned. The cooking of the patty was a tad too over well done for my liking. I wish we Canadians could get past this obsession with dried out hamburgers. They don't need to be cooked that long! The hand-cut fries were okay. Not particularly memorable. I requested a spicy mayo to liven up these average spuds, but they didn't have any. It's not that hard, people, mix up some hot sauce with mayo if you're too cheap to buy chipotle mayo or something similar. Geez Louise. This place is a great Irish pub with good pub food. They have all the UK beer and ciders you would expect and they also have some local craft. I always have a Mad Tom IPA here. The Irish Nachos are worth murdering a human just to have a taste. It's more than enough for two people. They also have live music here on weekends with some pretty big acts from time to time.
