They stock clothes, accessories and interiors - the kind of stuff that London should be famous for and not bloody Topshop. I could have walked out with ten pairs of earrings, shoes, pretty little tops, but my bank manager would be none too pleased. Best of all, at the front door they had a sleeping bulldog in a basket! How much is that doggy in the window... (This was actually the Covent Garden branch I visited, you can't expect to get cute puppies at all of them)

This shop really is a treasure trove of tempting treats - with children's sparkly slippers, fabulous toiletries and the watch of the moment, Toywatch, which adorns the wrist of Madonna and Robbie Williams. Fifi Wilson is a must stop destination.

I didn't buy anything but I would surely pop into another Monsoon store sometime soon.

The King's Road shop is just the right size with beautiful fashion, colourful crockery and unusual smellies spread out over one large floor. They had a lovely exhibition of dog paintings in a small side room, supporting an animal charity. I almost always walk out empty handed as the shop invites to browse more than to actually buy. Having said that, I have bought quite a few gifts before, and the fashion becomes more affordable during the sales. But this is one of the few shops where you feel happy just browsing without the urge to spend money. A bit like a trip to Liberty, a place just oozing good taste.

Unfortunately already crowded with large display units, it's actually no pleasure to shop in, certainly between early November and the end of January, and any sale periods inbetween. The staff are helpful and polite, and happy to have a look for things for you, if you can't see what you're looking for. More popular items are shunted to the front of the shop, no doubt to guarantee some sales rather than risk customers being put off by shoving their way to the back of the shop. And having dissed the cramped layout, I actually like the large wooden table unit near the front of the store.
