We stopped at this place for dinner. We were pleasantly surprised. The place was decorated for Christmas and the employees were very nice. We were seated at a booth that had duct tape holding it together but other than that everything else was great. They have a buffet which the locals tended to favor. We opted for a grilled chicken breast with baked potato & the chicken tender platter. The food was very good and there was enough leftover for tomorrow's lunch. Ate here as always when in Madisonville for Benton's Smoky Mountain Country Hams. We think it's fantastic traditional Southern fare. Absolutely spectacular for southern soul food and the locals CLEARLY know this! We were in the area for our daughter cheerleading and showed up 10 minutes before the lunch buffet started. When we walked in 4 people were there and within 15 minutes dozens were there because locals know how awesome it is. The building is super nice other than the bathrooms being super tiny. Nice ambiance and nice family environment but busy for good reason. Have to applaud the variety of breakfast food choices but the black scratched up plastic plates were a big turn off! We found this jewel of a cafe at lunchtime as we were passing through town on a trip. We loved the home town feeling from this cafe. We decided on the food bar loaded with meats, vegetables and salad fixings. The food was hot and delicious. We had many desserts to choose from. The chocolate cake made this chocoholic very happy! If a foreigner who had never consumed basic American food asked me to take them to an "American" restaurant, this might be it. We stumbled on Donna's (using Yelp as our guide) after going for a hike in the Cherokee National Forest. On the weekend, they have a buffet full of classics like meatloaf, turnip greens, carrots, cornbread (and cornbread casserole), etc. They have a full salad bar, soup, and hot bar. In addition, they have a regular menu with typical American fare. The food didn't quite taste like "homemade" Southern cooking -- i.e. made-from-scratch sweet potato casserole and pecan pie. But, it was pretty good overall with prompt service and clean facilities. I also enjoyed the small town atmosphere and location on their main street.
