SK's online review rating was higher at the time I started working with them so perhaps it seems their below average service delivery is catching up with them. I would just say to proceed with caution. The price is fair based on other CPA firms, but you need to know that the service will be a challenge. I experienced poor communication, major delays in timing expectations, and less than competent tax preparation. I'm a business owner/CPA and when I worked with SK I joked that you needed to be a CPA in order to work with them. I caught many mistakes (even basic ones) that prevented headaches down the line had I not caught them before final filing with the tax authorities. I would have left one star, but I believe they mean well, there's just seems to be an inability to execute. They recognized my poor service experience, but then weren't able to improve it (even after the associate we were working with left). Again, engage with caution.

However this past year he dodged my emails/phone calls, my husband's emails/phone calls, and my elderly mother's emails/phone calls (we all file separately). He once picked up the phone and then pretended to be someone else when he realized I was calling for an update on my taxes. He lied to us about filing for an extension and took forms from my mother that he never returned. Ultimately he stopped replying entirely and we had to look for a new accountant, several months after the filing deadline. I just got a notice that I owe several thousand dollars in late filing fees because it turns out he also lied about getting an extension. I don't know what is going on and while I wish Steven no ill will, please do not work with this firm or him. I don't want this to happen to anyone else.

However, it's difficult to go with a company or trust them with your taxes when they can't even respond to you in a timely manner or at all. Let me detail my experience below: December 16, 2019: Send an inquiry through their website asking about availability for new clients. Receive a response from Steven that they're currently evaluating their capacity and will get back to me in a week. I respond immediately asking if I should follow up in a week or if they'll let me know? *CRICKETS* December 26, 2019: Ask for an update. Hear nothing, follow up with an inquiry through their website December 31, 2019: Receive a response from Steven apologizing for letting this slip through the cracks. They have room for new clients and ask for information. I respond an hour later with the information. *CRICKETS* January 19, 2019: Another follow up. Ask for an update. *CRICKETS* January 31, 2019: I give up. Heather was upbeat and helpful -- gave me appointment time I wanted and reminded me of everything I needed to bring. Ralph is the most efficient person I've had do my taxes. I have several W-2s, several bank statements, and because of the move, tax payments and rebates from two states. Ralph reviewed my previous year's returns, which included selling/buying houses. Ralph breezed through all the paperwork and had my taxes filed electronically before I realized it. He then gave me a folder that had the State return (with the included addressed envelope!) that I had to send in on one side, and copies of everything else on the other side. I feel at ease with the answers Ralph gave to my questions and the advice he provided about this year's taxes. Heather has offered to assist me setting up automated payments for next year and she told me that they are there year round to answer any tax questions. They made the tax process so easy.
