Neither their prewash nor their drive-through machine removed a spot of bird poop. This particular spot of bird poop was the entire reason I stopped at Don's in the first place. Not even the guys wiping the car down removed it; I had to do it when I got home. I didn't inspect the rest of the car, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's still dirty. So very disappointed in you, Don. You robbed me of the satisfaction of having a clean car. You owe me 30 bucks. read more

A long tradition to do at the end of the year is get your car washed and here at Don's Makiki Service having a drive thru car wash is so convenient with not many similar services like this in town at such a great price I was aware yet constantly forgetting it's there. There can be a long line here but is very fast and efficient than they other guys down the street where it is a process and is a plus to get it vacuumed but if you just need to get it washed this a great option to do so. The staff here is efficient and friendly and the price you just can't beat, the days of drive thru efficiency is a luxury thing I'm grateful for and here in Makiki it a service that is given with ease to take care of what has taken such great care you me. I was in line for a car wash for over 15 minutes without anybody moving at all. Apparently all that I was told was no cashier. So why on earth would you let a line of people in their cars get in line when you couldn't get the car wash. It's not a matter of patience for a couple minutes. I sat there for easily 20 minutes. If you are looking for a fast wash and don't care to have the inside of your car taken cared of (windows wiped down, and vacuuming) then this place is pretty good. They do a precleaning and then send you on your way through the machine. I like foaming action as it reminds me when I used to foam my cars in the past (I'm getting too old and not enough time) and then detail them. They are pretty affordable and they wipe your vehicle down when you come out. The line isn't too long when I go unlike some other places which makes it appealing. read more

The water is so stinky I have to roll down the windows to air out my car after, even when using recirculation with the AC in the car You can smell it from Beretania. I want to give 0 stars, I purchased the Proplus car wash.... The preliminarily pressure wash at the beginning was ok ... I've been there before when they were more attentive, I know I not expecting a detail... finish the proplus supposed to include rim and tire .. only used the brush supposed to spray with the cleaner, Entering into the car wash started off normal enough, the spinning brushes on both sides of the truck was spinning slowly, driver side never touched my truck at all, the passenger side slow sinning only touched my truck with the very tip barely so after going through I asked one of the guys there If he could call the guy from the booth ...he came and I was explaining to him what happen the other guy was talking loud in his language and had a tone of grumbling...! After explaining to the guy he says no it touch it touch I explained no it didn't why would I make it up I was in the truck going through so basically he dismissed my concern So I proceeded to go in the store and the guy behind the counter tells me the manager comes in at 2 or 3 this afternoon to call at that time .... This car wash is adjacent to a 76 gas station. The car wash drive through part is relatively old but prior to going in, there are a group of guys who brush your car. After exiting the wash, you can either leave or park in an area where another group of guys hand dry your car. I came on a Sunday afternoon, around 3:30 and there was a pretty long line stretching across the gas station. Overall, the whole time experience lasted about an hour from waiting in the line to getting my car dried. I was really satisfied with the pre-wash and the wash drive-thru but the drying was a little left to be desired. I had to go to the neighboring gas station to use some paper towels and dry off parts of my car. I drive a hatchback and when I opened my trunk, there were bubbles that seeped in. No line! My Lucky day I guess :) Since the truck I borrowed is too high and I don't have a step ladder to wash it myself, I decided to take it here because it was close by. First thing I noticed was no line. Second thing I noticed was the price went up. Kind of a bummer but oh well. I guess it was to accommodate the additional workers they have now? I paid, then I asked nicely if they could shoot down the back of the truck bed, he said no problem. He walked around and carefully removed the antenna. A guy on each side of the truck proceeded to remove the bird poo off the windshield. Then a guy directed non verbally to me on getting the truck into the tire track. After the wash, three guys came over to hand dry the truck, even the inside of the door. That's a nice touch! Now it's clean, gassed up, and ready to return. If you're looking for a good car wash, this is a great place. This is a drive thru wash, but there are 2-3 guys who pre-soap and scrub your car while you wait to enter the drive thru. Then after the drive thru is done, more guys dry your car off with rags. They do a really good job, especially considering the price: $18-$22 The wait is about 20 minutes with a long line, and the wash itself is about 5 minutes. McKinley Wash wait time was crazy with people lined up out to the street, and street shine was 2 1/2 hours (and $60). Who has 1-2 hours to wait? Of course those two places clean the inside, but for $20 and a short wait? This place rocks! (You can pay to vacuum youself at self serve va s on site. Located on the corner of Berretania and Makiki, and connected to the 76 station if you need gas. Dont forget to tip at least a few bucks! I have been a loyal customer to this car wash since I've moved to Oahu (that's a good 7 years). I used to life in Makiki and on my personal journey to figuring out Oahu, I've stumbled upon Don's Makiki Service next to the closest gas station. It's a bunch of uncles who work at this car wash that take good care of you as you treat your car to a wash. The prices have gone up since I started using them, but I can only imagine it's to keep up with the rising costs of everything else. There's 3 levels of car wash, with the most expensive one being $25 worth now. You just have to pay up front for the service you want and then they guide you to putting your car in neutral and just enjoying the show. The highest level gives your car a shiny coat and allows the automatic wash to also clean your tires if I remember correctly. I usually just do the most expensive one because my car deserves love too. The entire wash takes a good 5 mins and then towards the end you take your gear off of neutral and then drive a couple feet towards the final set of uncles who will wipe your car own. I tend to give a $5 tip once they look like they're about to finish. Sometimes you just need caring hands to clean up your car and for these guys to do it all day under the sun...they deserve a tip. Thank you for always washing and taking care! Another plus is if you bring a dollar's worth of quarters, you can vacuum your car's insides using their big tube vacuums which last for a good 6 mins I believe. We had to wash car today and my fiancé and I were feeling lazy. Ever since The Car Parlor closed down, we are so thankful that Don's Makiki Service was open. Prices are very reasonable and they wipe your car down afterwards. The Car Parlor didn't even do that. We will definitely be back again if we're feeling lazy. I called the shop before heading over at 9pm on Saturday and Maggie's response was that it is common sense that I would need to bring the car in the daytime for her to be able to see the damage properly. The only reason I had planned on going at that time was specifically to accommodate her work schedule. She asked that I bring it in at 9am on Monday instead. I took half a day off from work to bring my car in. Maggie was not the one who looked at my car, but I had been told multiple times when I called that I would need to work around her schedule. The man who looked at my car said he's been in the business since 1996 and there was no way the damage could've been from the car wash. Ultimately, I knew the burden of proof was extremely high, but wished they could have had better communication and been more accommodating. I had told them the pictures were posted here and if they knew all along they would not be accepting any responsibility based on what the damages look like, I would have appreciated them communicating that over the phone instead of having me take off from work to bring my car in. read more

Just used the car wash service. Worst experience. The employees do not speak English. I had questions about using tap pay which they couldn't understand or answer. The only words they know are profanity. I was screamed at Fuck and Shit over and over with aggressive body gestures. I wanted to leave but I was blocked by other cars behind me, so I just went through the car wash after i dug up my card to pay. I will never come back. Especially as a petite women these large men who were very aggressive were extremely intimidating. I would have other people, especially women go somewhere else. This review is for the car wash service. Prices have gone up for the regular basic car wash is $17.99. I remember a few years back when it used to be $12.99. Anyway, compared to the other car wash just a block away it's still a good deal and FAST!! They scrub down your car with a soft brush and even do your tires before going in the actual car wash. Once you come out of the car wash, your car is hand dried using soft towels. And it's so fun to go thru it! Kids love it! read more

I barely get my car washed, but when I do, I like to get it from here. It's about $21-27, so it is a bit pricey. Cash and card is accepted here. They do have a vacuum area which is self-serve just make sure you bring your change. I like how the guys give your car a pre scrub before entering the wash. They scrub the tires, roof, and tape up the back wipers and push in the side mirrors for you. The soap smells good once you go through. After your car goes through the wash, there are usually two guys who wipes dry your car after and takes off whatever tape was used. All in all, I love this spot for a decent wash. They will get the job done if you're good with just external cleaning and need quick service, just dont be mislead by their "tire cleaning" explicitly mentioned in their most expensive ProPlus package! Don's doesn't vacuum or do any interior cleaning, but there's a separate cleaning area where you can vacuum (I bring my own).. no free cleaners etc so bring your own. I have a SUV so I'm glad my cost is the same as a smaller vehicle (not fair for everyone, really). The ProPlus option (priciest) is misleading--it's their only package that explicitly includes tire cleaning but it means they just WIPE your tires when drying outside (I even returned to come back and talked to the guy, thinking they missed it). There is no extra cleaning of tires (regrettably the reason I selected that package option in the first place..lesson learned!). My go-to is McKinley Car Wash (interior cleaning plus all the bells and whistles) however they're closed on Sundays and normally has a long wait, even at 7:15am on a Saturday! Don's is good for a quickie, if you need a wash on a Sunday, don't need tires "cleaned", and are okay with them not vacuuming/cleaning your interior. read more

This place is my go-to car washes when my car needs a quick wash. For the most part this place is pretty quick, although depending on when you come there may already be a long line of cars waiting to also get their cars cleaned up. However, don't let the line fool you, she moves and if you're like me I'll usually throw on a quick podcast and I'm out of there in no-time! The guys here are great, they're quick, efficient, friendly, and work together like a well oiled machine. The prices here are reasonable for what you pay for, and my favorite thing about the whole experience... You don't have to get out of your car... EVER! The whole entire process is relatively quick. You queue up, pay the man at the booth who will also tape down all of your car's parts (windshield wipers, antennas, etc.). Then he'll direct you to line up your cars tires to go through the wash. From there usually two to three guys will gently scrub down your car and sometimes if you're lucky, even your tires before going through the wash. Then about 3 minutes later, you pop out on the other side of the wash where another set of guys will hand dry your car! There's no option to tip if you pay by card at the booth, so I always tip the guys at the end in cash when they're wiping down my car. In the same vicinity as the car wash, there's a small area on the side where you can vacuum your car, they also have a fair number of pumps to fill in gas, and even a small liquor store. read more

My car was in desperate need of a wash... we parked under a very messy tree at the beach on a day where it downpoured twice and left all kinds of tree nonsense and bird poop all over my car (insert crying emoji). I had a little bit of extra time in the morning before work so I ran through this car wash and was so glad I did ! There were about 3 cars ahead of me, so the line wasn't too long yet so I went in and at first I was worried it was gna take a while but it went by pretty quickly and I still had time to spare/ got to work early (yay!). The little turn is a kinda sharp weird turn so be weary of that because after the turn you gta make sure your tires line up with the track they put you on. The guy at the booth to pay isn't the most talkative or friendly, but he's efficient and quick. After you pay and pull up, two dudes spray down trouble spots on the car from both sides and then scrub it down with brushes to make sure they get all the big gunk off (which I desperately needed because of all the aforementioned poop and tree gunk). They made sure it was all taken care of so the car wash could just do the basic car cleaning. After you sit in the little car wash and it pulls you thru, another two guys sit at the end and when you exit out of the wash they direct you forward so they can better wipe down your car after the blow dryer thing does little to nothing. This part is nice because they get your mirrors, pop them back into place and wipe down the entire car. Overall, totally worth it! Quick, efficient, and not terrible in terms of cost. My partner and I will happily continue to come here for car washes. It's totally worth the try if you're in the area and in need of a wash. read more

Car wash is mediocre for the price one pays. I always pay the max price hoping they'll proceed differently but there is always something not washed off the car. Plus, the soap rinse of the car is not good and they simply just wipe it off knowing fullly well that soap damages the car's paint. Also, they have people who do manual wipe down but I don't know what effort will cost them to open and wipe the doors. They could at the least make it an option for those that would like it done. Of course the soap always gets trapped in doors as expected after a car wash. Since they don't care about your car, they don't pay attention to what they are actually doing either. Another thing is the quality of "hand wash" they advertise. One person often washes their side of the car somewhat clean meanwhile the other person just pretends to do so. After a wiped down, one can clearly see the difference. I don't know if the owner cares for the service that customers are paying for but they need to actually take a closer look at what their employees are doing. I stopped tipping the $5 to $20 as I often felt bad seeing such grown men under the sun for hours. The only reason I'm not giving them a 1 star is because it is a drive through close to where I live since I often don't have lots of time to sit around waiting for my car wash to be completed. I am reluctant to type a positive review for this place, because I don't want anyone to come here from the mess that is McKinley Car Wash and Yajima Service Station. If you just need a car wash, just come here (or don't!). You will save a lot of time and money, and you will receive a much more thorough car wash than the other two places I mentioned. It's $12.99 for a regular wash, +$2 gets you a Tri-color Polish and Undercarriage Wash ($14.99), and an additional $2 adds on Wheel and Rim Cleaner and Clear Coat ($16.99). Vans and Trucks is $1 more, but not for me! :) This place is easy to get to as it is accessible from three streets (Beretania, Keeaumoku, and Makiki Streets). When you pull into the car wash, there will be a cashier there to help you. I just got the regular wash and the cashier didn't charge me the extra $1 for my van. I tried to tell him that it should be $1 more, but he didn't hear me. I did try! After you pay, you pull up onto the track, and then the workers there will scrub your car down before you head into the car wash machine. A quick note, you need to have your car in neutral after you get onto the track. It was such a weird feeling not having control of my car. I don't like it! :p Anyway, after you come out, your car get hand dried. They even dry the inside of your doors, so be ready for them to suddenly open your doors unexpectedly. Overall, the whole process was very smooth and quick. The workers there were all friendly and do a somewhat thorough job, but a much more thorough job than other places. read more

They don't open door jams nor wiping it dry. Paid $25.00 for this drive thru car wash today. The guys were great, scrubbed down my tires and rims, windows, etc. As soon as the water hit my car, it was so stink! I don't know if they were using recycled water or what, but it smelled like vase water after flowers were sitting in it for way too long.
