The only reason I'm giving them a star is because they are conveniently located in the parking garage at restaurant row and I'm forced to give them at least 1 star on Yelp. They gave me a flyer that quotes $250 for a Complete Detail Package and after scheduling for their next available appointment a few days later, I get a completely different quote upon dropping my car off. After looking over my car, the guy who handed me the flyer days before says "Our complete detail is $340 but due to the amount of sand and dog fur, it's going to be $360." That is quite a change in price. After asking them about their flyer price of $250, their other guy tells me that their prices have changed to $300. It seems like their pricing is all over the map and that none of them are on the same page which makes me question their honesty and integrity. I have no problem paying a higher price, as long as the job is done well and the pricing and service is transparent. Unfortunately, upon getting their call that my car was ready for pickup a mere 2 hours later, I was not impressed with the job they had done for the amount I payed. There was still some sort of sappy gunk around one of my rear vent glass panes and it appeared that either they forgot to clean out my center console or that's not part of their complete detail package. I called today to make an appointment and while asking him a question about the pricing, he was very rude and told me to go somewhere else. I wasn't rude at all. I heard good reviews of this place from my coworkers so I took my 2015 Silverado. It's a work pickup with some stains in the upholstery and head liner. I simply wanted a thorough cleaning of the inside to get rid of dust and to see if any of the stains would come out. I was disappointed when I got it back. The stains weren't removed which is fine, but there was still grunge on the dashboard, behind the steering wheel, between the seats, on the seatbelt hangers, and in all the little places which are harder to reach but which are accessible simply by turning the steering wheel or sliding the seat forward. After getting home I had to wipe the interior down with a rag to finish removing the dirt. read more

These 5 star ratings must be from friends and family of this business. They are either prejudice to Asian women or are getting away with over charging naïve customers. My wife went in to have just the front passenger side floor shampooed. Drink was spilt over weekend, but thankfully we have rubber all weather floor mats and the regular floor mat under. Still some of drink hit main carpet so we thought would be best to just have shampooed. They charged my wife $100 ($108 after tax), for the front passenger floor which had a minimal spillage on it. Floors were clean and well kept, prior to spill issue. When I saw charge of $108, I called and spoke to the manager named David and asked how much they charge for full interior details. He said starts at $150 for full interior. He proceeded to claim that he had to wash floor 15 times and that he fogged AC. An area 2ft x 2ft with a spill area concentrated to maybe a 4 inch area... Not to mention, when my wife first came to pick up suv, David stated to her that if smell from spill is lingering that they can try another method like fogging AC. The same fogging that he told me that he already did plus the 15 washings, to try justifying such a crazy charge. David proceeded to get defensive, so I asked what they are willing to do on price, because had I gone down to pay, there is no what that I would have paid $108, for such a small clean up shampoo job. He had to go discuss with the other manager Adam. David called me back and said they will cancel initial charge of $108 and instead charge $50. Still ridiculous, for such small job, but we agreed. (Both the $108 and $54 with tax charges are still showing pending) Two days later, I just randomly received a charge for $118 on my credit card from Hawaiian Island Auto Detailing. I called immediately, when notified and the manager Adam answered. I stated that we just received a charge for $118 on my wife's card. He became very short with me and told me that they just charged $118, because they thought that they mistakenly over refunded us...? A simple look at their transactions receipts from just a couple days prior would have shown the transactions. Instead, they go ahead and do an unauthorized charge of an amount that isn't even the amount from either charges... Adam was rude and kept interrupting me, when I was asking him to clarify where the amount for the $118 charge came. He seemed bit stuttering and in a rush to shut me up. I tried explaining to him which charges on the credit card are showing pending, but he seemed lost and angered by me calling. I told him to lose the attitude and quit cutting me off mid sentence, because I just received a notification for an unauthorized charge on my credit card and all I am doing is calling to figure it out. Would give ZERO stars if I could! I spoke with a guy named Adam and scheduled an appointment and was told that someone would be at the lot at drop-off time and to call the number if not. No one was at the lot, and when we called the number, no one answered. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. He was also very rude on previous calls. He had told me on the first call: "We don't pick up when you call cause that's not how it works. You don't call us. We call YOU." After reading other customer reviews, it makes sense since they apparently never learned basic manners and are prejudiced against Asian women. Even if you're not an Asian woman, save yourself plenty of time and headache and go elsewhere for car detailing. I'm sure they would have done a HORRIBLE job on the car even if they were present. Took my car in for cleaning before shipping it to the mainland. So impressed! I dropped off my car-dirty on the outside with the interior sandy, dirty and full of my dogs hair :( Everything was done really quickly (about 2 hours) like I was quoted and came back to a spotless, shiney car. The best part was when I stepped in it smelled so good! Also the location is great-quick nice stroll a few blocks to Kakaako (H Mart) and Ward area to get some food and browse that area while I waited. I am changing my review from two to 4 stars because of how promptly I revived a response after leaving the initial review. They took the time to clean the ceiling of the vehicle and even gave us a coupon for a free cleaning good for one year. I would have done 4.5 stars if possible but I didn't do 5 stars because my husband (who took the car in for the second cleaning) isn't sure they did the best job and when he showed up for the appointment, they said we were there on the wrong day, though, thankfully they did it anyway. Thanks guys at Hawaiian Island Auto Detailing you helped a busy guy out big time. I called ahead to see if they could take me and they said a Tacoma would be $70 bucks it came out to $95 probably because I didn't mention it was a Double Cab so I can't really blame them for that. My Poor little '04 Black Tacoma was a rough due to a lazy guy not taking the time other than washing it once in a while so it was getting a bit oxidized poor thing. I had to rush them a little bit as I was eating lunch and going to pick it up afterwards they were very accommodating and put two more guys on my truck to get it ready in time. Wow they even got the gum outta my floor mats that was caked in awesome! the Truck looked spectacular I am now sorry I need to sell it because I bought a New Tacoma which of course is a black double cab again I think if I am going to be a lazy guy I might as well bring it to them to make sure my new Truck stays beautiful since they did a great job on my old one. read more

I've had my car detailed multiple times at Hawaiian Island Auto Detailing because I used to work at Restaurant Row. There was nothing better than dropping my dirty silver Lexus RX300 in the morning & then picking up a shiny pretty Lexus RX300 in the afternoon! They were always really good at having my car cleaned by the agreed upon time whenever I've gone there. Best thing you can do is drop it off in the morning before work then pick it when you're finished in the late afternoon. Detailing can get pretty spendy but it's worth it if you want to keep your car looking swanky! Dave the owner is a cool guy (and a golfer!) and they're offering a pretty good deal right now for Kama'aina. It's not cheap like the drive thru car wash but when you get your car back it's almost as good as brand new! read more

To summarize: I take some ownership in this and realize I should have thoroughly checked the final product. I Paid $184 for my 2016 4Runner which never got full service... Be aware there is a surcharge when you use a credit card ( found out after I got the bill). They did not vacuum my third row seats or my back seats ( child seats were in; didn't know I had to remove- that's my fault, I guess..) they did vacuum and wash/wax( great job) my front seats, driver/passenger floor mats and exterior. I should have read the reviews before I went. Check Yelp and Google, my review aligns with others. From 18-OCT (initial inquiry- service was done on 22-OCT) up until yesterday 5-NOV the following occurred: Wanted to detail my car as a bday gift. First time ever getting detailed. Have an family member who has been going to these guys for years. I spoke to the owner after I left a voicemail. Owner called me back twice and appeared to have his best interest in getting me in ASAP. Only questions I was asked was which package I wanted (Kama'aina) and what type of car (2016 4Runner-great condition). They squeezed me in on a Friday before 830 (3 days after I inquired- I'm excited at this point). Young man greeted me and asked the same questions ( what package and if I needed anything else), I inquired about water spots and he said that would be an additional package, I said no need and to just stick with Kama'aina as my budget was trying to stay under $150 (Kama'aina listed at $120). Did a walk around and was told to pay when the car was done. Car was ready within 4 hours. Here's where it gets troublesome.. When I went to pickup my car, looked great (exterior and front seats). I did not check the third row seats or under my child seats( this is my fault and again I encourage you to do a thorough walk through- don't get caught up in their "bruddah- bruddah hospitality). The young man that did my car was awesome. Friendly, welcoming, and transparent with what he did-except for the part where he could have told me he couldn't vacuum the back as there was child car seats. As I was checking out, that young man told me "gotta charge you $50-$55 for the third row seats", I was ok and was expecting it to be something like that as $120 for a car detail is low balling considering their competition. I agreed, but he wanted to double check with his boss to ensure it was correct- the boss (owner) sarcastically told the young man that it is the price but "good job checking" (snarky)-that caught my attention. I wound up paying $184 dollars. Figured it was taxes. Silly me. Good thing the wife is the accountant and realized the total should have been less. I'll elaborate on this soon.. I wound up calling the owner on the same day to let him know they forgot to vacuum the third row/back seats. He was accommodating, apologetic and willing to take the car back right there before they closed and finish the job but it was too late for me at that point so I offered a compromise. How about when I come back (because I felt they did a good job with the actual work they did) if he could discount something , he told me 20% next time I come. After looking at the charges on the bill and what services I received, we got overcharged. Considering the initial $120 Kama'aina and the added on third row seats - should have been $170 before taxes. Mind you, they didn't vacuum the back seats or the third row seats/floor mats. Me and the owner have been playing "phone tag". He offered full refund but not to return. I never wanted that. Wanted to get refunded the difference and/or be held to the services I received- wash/wax and vacuum front seats/floor mats. I figured $150 would suffice. Owner claimed "$184 is fair". Decided to write this review as I feel the owner gave up trying to call me back/find a fair solution. Also gave my wife attitude and misinformation (claimed I was a previous client and I should know the policies- owner wound up apologizing to me as he confused me with another customer). Last conversation I had was him offering me a full refund with a ban from his establishment, I elected (left a voicemail twice) to be charged for the services I actually received. The same voicemails I left that got him to get me scheduled apparently doesn't work now that we're trying to compromise. Ultimately, they do a good job. I couldn't tell how great of a job was done to my SUV until I drove out into the sunlight and it was not worth $290. My suv is less than a year old and we hardly drive it so it wasn't too dirty. They didn't even wipe the interior doors (and other interior spots) bc I had some lotion splatter on both sides still there. The door jams weren't wiped either especially the bottom where it does get dirty. The windshield still had water spots (maybe hard water?) The most disappointing was they didn't wax under all of the exterior door handles. The car was shiny but it was dull and still dirty there. They could've done a walk through and spent literally another 30 min to do a better job and keep a potential regular customer. The two stars are for friendly prompt service. So despite mixed reviews I decided to try this place out because it was convenient. Unfortunately the bad reviews were right. First, I called and asked about pricing for my Mazda 5. I specified that it was the model with the sliding rear doors. The guy who answered, and then helped me today, said "oh, the station wagon" and said he used to sell Mazda's and knew which car I was talking about. I told him I really wanted the inside cleaned because the seats were dirty. He told me it would be $100 to get the kamaaina special which includes exterior wash/wax and interior cleaning (carpets, dash, cup holders, etc.), and an additional $45 to clean the seats, for a total of $145. When I got there the next day for my appointment he said he was confused and was thinking about the Mazda 3 when he gave me the quote. Then he went on to say the interior cleaning alone would be $145 but that he would also include a basic car wash. I was already there early in the morning and had switched cars with my mom, as it was her vehicle I was getting it cleaned for her birthday. So I said fine. When I got back it didn't look washed although he claimed it was when I asked. Also, the inside was just ok. He said it would look better when I drove it out because the business is in the parking structure at restaurant row, which has kind of dim lighting. I didn't want to argue about the wash figuring I could wash it again myself later. But then when I drove it out and back to work, I was really disappointed. Some of the seats were still stained and there was dust and dirt still present on the steering wheel as though they hadn't cleaned it at all. There was what looked like lint from cheap rags all over the side door panel and the console and the center console area was still dirty as though not cleaned at all. Then when I got out I could see very clearly in the sunlight they didn't wash the car at all. There were small bird poop droppings still present on the car and also there was debris (leaves, twigs, and even a black monkey pod) in the front area where the windshield wipers are. Bottom line - I'm embarrassed to take the car back to my mom for her birthday and will have to probably do a bunch of work cleaning the inside and washing the car myself. no tar removal, didn't at all touch the bed of my truck, the windows all had water spots everywhere, they missed spots inside. This isn't worth it, feels more like they didn't touch it until the last hour. The manager was doing a walk around with me and I was pointing stuff out, he started yelling at his workers about it. they originally said 4 hours turned out to be 8 hrs. If i was charging 300$ to detail a truck you better believe I would have touched every square inch I could with a rag. I was wiping dirt and stuff off with my hand. This was the job of a neighbor kid you'd pay 20$ to detail your vehicle not a " Professional Business". From reading other review it seems over the last year they have gone down hill. My other half gets his car detailed here every month so a couple of friends and I bought a package for our friend's SUV as a birthday gift. Since it was a surprise our friend didn't have a chance to put any personal stuff away; their team put everything away, all nice and neat in the trunk. Above and beyond service! They did such a good job I had to get my car detailed. Another challenge, I rarely wash my car and had gone to the beach the previous weekend = sand all over/everywhere. Got it back, not a grain of sand in sight or dirt in any crevice. All those scratched external areas were buffed and my tires so clean. I love how the inside smells so clean! Dave at Hawaiian Island Auto Detailing has for the last three years been professional and great as always. Today's service however left much to be desired. We had to go to the server, he did not come out to greet the customer as we've become accustomed to. We were quoted 3 hours over the phone and 5 when we dropped the car. We pointed out so many areas where there was poop still on the car AND HE TRIED TO JUSTIFY IT. When we notified the car was finished we pointed out areas where it was still dirty and had him re-do it. I asked about cleaning the frame of each of the doors since there were also still dirty - he said they don't normally clean the entire frame of the door. McKinley Carwash does but a detailing doesn't? He said he needed to manage his resources and couldn't spend the time needed. Most cars aren't as soiled as this. True, but this is the service you're advertising. Yes, I paid the $, but I'm not sure I want to come back. This guy's first impression, service, and 'justifying' poor workmanship left a foul taste in my mouth for a company which had always been top notch. read more

Hubby's office is at Restaurant Row so it is co convenient for him to leave the car to be detailed while he is upstairs working. Everytime he brings the one of our cars there, it always comes back shiny, clean and looking brand new. Recently, we sold his Lexus and had it detailed before we showed it to the seller. It showed beautifully and we got exactly what we wanted. Just yesterday we had my three month old van detailed and also had their special Vitreo paint sealant applied and paid $125. My father was a manager at a car complex and from the time I was 5 to the time I was 18 I was on the car lot surrounded by car salesmen, parts salesmen, auto detailers, and mechanics. In all that time I learned one thing, do not trust people in this industry. When picking a company to do any work on my vehicle I assume I'm always going to be screwed. The gents at Hawaiian Island Auto Detailing are the exception not the norm. They stayed 2.5 hours after normal working hours to complete my SUV and gave me a huge discount because they were behind on the job due to high volume. Tim specifically was covered in sweat from laboring away on my car and the owner David was unbelievably nice as well. It should also be noted they took care of everything with the loss of one employee who had to go to the emergency room after cutting his hand open that day. Brought my car in and it was looking MESSY. I'm talking about sand all over the inside, the rugs are straight dirty, and everything about it just needed to be cleaned up. Met with adam on Friday and set an appointment for Saturday. I requested for a full interior clean and basic exterior wash. I came in at 11 and left my truck. I work construction and my interior was neglected for a good 3 years. When I went in at 3pm to pick up my 2006 chevy Silverado I was in awe. The inside looked brand spanking new. I couldn't believe it was that clean. I had stains and concrete and dirt & grime from my job sites. It had a better smell and the just felt clean. A friend of mine recommended this business to me for detailing and cleaning my car to ship it to the mainland and I am thoroughly impressed!! I've had my Nissan Rogue for three years now and she has never had any detailing done so there is sand everywhere (literally everywhere: in the cracks and crevasses of my leather seats, trunk, floor mats, etc.) and I get her back four hours later and she is showroom new. My poor car. I enjoy island life with my dog and so my car has become covered in sand, salt water, and dog hair just from daily adventures. My dog has friends that like to join us often so the evidence of fun times becomes compounded. After a particular awesome day hiking and beaching with 3 dogs, my car also somehow acquired a rotting fish smell. I seriously thought one of the dogs had dragged in a dead sea creature and I made it a point to spend time looking for a carcass. The other option was maybe involving some sort of canine bodily fluid. Basically my car has seen things, and been thru things, so I finally decided to get professional help. This place was amazing! OK, Im not sure if its a new owner or what but my previous experience with this company was an easy 4 stars, my last experience I would say was very disappointing. I drove in on saturday opting for the mini-detail special which was $60 for the basic wash, wax, tired, windows and vacum. The whole operation took about and 1.5 hours which is a little faster than I thought it would take. When i arrived to pick up my car, an associate asks me how it looks and I said it looks great! I paid them $60 plus I gave them a 15 dollar tip expecting the same great service i received on my previous visit. When i got my car home and examined my car further, I noticed that they didnt wax the entire bottom half of my car on BOTH sides, the lower portion of my front and rear bumper and the area of my door handle!!! I was like WTh! Now I could understand if they missed a small portion of my car, that can be forgivable, but to miss the entire bottom half of my car on both sides and the other areas i mentioned leads me to believe that it was done on purpose to cut corners in hopes i wouldnt notice. I know they use an electric buffer to apply and remove the wax so its not that hard. Perhaps it was my fault for not checking but really why should i have to? I cant help but feel as if i was taken advantage of and Im hugely disappointed. I struggle not to give this place one star being that they missed half my car. read more

I was really looking forward to getting my car detailed on two separate occasions. Both times however I was left feeling a little let down. While these guys may do all the usual tasks pretty good, I think it's the details where they really lack. On my first experience here, very first detailing for my vehicle, I decided to try these guys out as they operated out of the building that I work at. I also decided to try them out because I saw that they were having a $60 summer special which covered a lot of basic stuff like hand wash and wax, vaccum, clean wheels. Early in the week I make a reservation for 9am that Friday and I tell them I want the summer special. When I drop it off my car on Friday, the guy asks me when I get off work. I tell him, "oh, around 3pm." He tells me that he'll have the car ready by then. At this point I was a little nervous because when I had set up my appointment the manager told me it would take 2-3 hours, at the latest I should have my car back by 12pm, maybe 1pm. When I return later to pick up my car and I go to pay, the guy tells me that it will be $85. That really caught me off guard and I was just like--OK. So he then asks me how I want to pay I tell him credit card. He then tells me that if I use my credit card it'll be $89 instead of $85. How does the price get bumped up if I use my credit card instead of paying cash? Needless to say that while they did a good job on my car, the whole experience left me unsettled. So for attempt number two I went in budgeting $90 for my detailing. Same as before I go down early in the week to set up my appointment for later in the week. This time I ask what kind of services they have and they tell me about the "mini-detailing" which is $85 (the service I had last time without asking for it). I tell them ok and set up an appointment for Thursday. I come in on Thursday and give my keys to one of the guys. When I come down to pick it up the worker that I picked it up from wasn't very personable, didn't really speak clearly, and wasn't that informative about what was going on. He was actually the same one I picked my car up from the last time and even then he demonstrated these same negative qualities. I was not surprised by the price this time (it was $85 and I did pay in cash). However when I got into my car I noticed that there were still watermarks and streaks on both the front and back windows. Upon further inspection in the cupholder area, I still saw stains that were left from spilled drinks. Needless to say I was again taken aback as last time their service was great and this time they had not spent the effort on the details. Overall my experience with these guys wasn't that great and I don't think I'll be going back to them. read more

I think these guys are the best when it comes to detailing! I used to live right across the street from Restaurant Row so it was super convenient! I live a little farther now but this is still my go to place! Their prices are good, not obnoxious like other places, and they consistently do a good job. I've tried those $20 waterless wash and wax places and let me tell you, you get what you pay for. And frankly, there's just something off about washing your car without water! It's well worth paying a little more to get your car taken care of right by these guys! Highly recommended! read more

I recently brought my older volvo in to get the kamaaina detail, and I'll admit that it wasn't looking too hot upon arrival. I was told it would be about 2-3 hours, as there were other cars that needed detailing as well. I waited in the nearby shopping center, expecting to be sitting around for a while. However, a little over an hour later, I got the call that my car was finished! Exceptional service: it turns out that the staff felt bad that I was waiting nearby, so they had a few guys working on my car at once to speed up the process, and my car was more beautiful than I imagined it could ever be! It's been almost 2 months since my incident happened and HPD still has no luck in tracking down their worker John Anthony Duncan. No one from their shop has called to try and help me recover my money? In fact the manager Adam said that its not their responsibility for what happened and they will not try to pay me back because they do not know exactly how much money was taken and that I may be trying to extort money from the company? They have a copy of the police report and case number so they do in fact know exactly how much money was taken from me yet they attempt to do nothing? read more
