really good donuts there are a surprising number of donut stores in the STL area. maybe it's a holdover from the previous age? the problem is a lot of these places are not that great. in addition, a whole lot of them sell out super fast, meaning if you don't show up in the earlier hours of operation, you won't be able to find what you're looking for donut palace kind of had this problem as well, since if you could towards the ending hours of the day they'll probably be sold out of the good stuff (supply issue), but the donuts are quite good one thing that i will mention however is that they could perhaps consider using a better quality jelly for their jelly donuts. these are the ones that they do the old fashioned way, where they get the plain donut and then manually fill it with the jelly. it's a nice product, but the jelly filling tastes a little artificial and has more of the consistency of gelatin than actual jam, which is what it's actually supposed to be. something to consider read more

When my daughter said she wanted to have cake donuts at her wedding reception, I bought donuts from various shops and had her and her now husband do a blind taste test. Who doesn't love a good donut?! I have been coming to this local spot for over 10 years now! I think they are hands down the best classic donut spot around. The glazed cinnamon twists are my personal favorite. The icing donuts always have the PERFECT amount on them- no half iced donuts for me please! The cake donuts are great but this place is known for the Apple Fritters. They're huge. We get one along with a donut or two for everyone and just tear pieces off the fritter. They're huge also sell toasted coconut donuts very similar to the Buttercrunch donuts that dd used to sell around here and they're my favorite. read more

I'm not happy about leaving this review, Donut Palace serves up some great donuts and normally service is great. This review is in response to an interaction I had with who I suspect is the owner, or manager. I went by this morning to pick up donuts for my daughter's class, I asked if they used peanut oil to fry their donuts. The employee looked at me like I had two heads and replied, "I don't know". When I asked if she could check she replied "no, we don't use peanut toppings, so I don't think we use peanut oil". The whole interaction was awkward, and she was entirely unapologetic about the situation. The reality of this is, it's a liability for your staff to not know things like this, and to be rude to a customer when asked is unacceptable. The correct response is "I don't know, but I will find out for you". read more

I've been 3 times in 1 week and had dreams of them the other 4 days. They open at 3:15am for you late night owls and extra early morning risers. Great on a Snow Day Holy Infant has a youth group that helps with faith formation. On Thursdays during the school year they get together before school... and donuts are served. This Thursday we had snow. Our son's high school called the home phone to announce no school for the snow day. Holy Infant texted... and I just didn't check the cell phone... so I got our daughter up and moving... then we got to school, saw it completely empty, and checked the screen... and headed home. I read the reviews and seen the pictures on here, so I decided since they open early according to the listed store hours I would drive 45 minutes one way to get some for my family and coworkers. I get there and there is a sign that states they don't open until 6am. I get that things change with Covid, but as a store owner, you really should update your hours on website and Yelp. I'm happy to say that I think the Donut Palace I always loved is making a comeback. Several months ago (a year? -- time flies) when the Donut Palace changed ownership, I thought all was lost. The former owners, Ann & Frank Mahler, were amazing and we missed them. We were saddened to hear they were selling, but glad to hear their recipes were transferring to the new owners, so our favorite doughnuts (which are far superior to anything Krispy Creme or Dunkin Donuts can offer) would still be available. But the first few months of the new ownership was disappointing. Faces we'd seen behind the counter for years disappeared and service seemed to suffer. Checking out was difficult because the technology never seemed to work properly. And there were never enough employees working so the waits were long. My daughter and I used to visit every Tuesday morning before her percussion club practices but we quit going because there was only one employee on Tuesdays and we had to wait too long, making it impossible to get to practice on time. We switched to Thursdays when there were more employees. Then I went in on a Saturday morning and I waited more than 30 minutes. I swore I wouldn't do that again. Today, however, I was there and things were running like a finely-tuned machine. I met Ann Saladin, one of the new owners. She's delightful and mentioned that they are getting ready to launch a website where you'll be able to rent these really cute doughnut stands (see my photos) and do other things. So, the doughnuts are still the best ever, the coffee is good (strong, but good), the service is friendly and improving (I still haven't been back yet on a Tuesday or on the weekend, so we'll see . . . ) and hopefully someday they'll bring back something else I miss -- the samples in the baskets on the counters. (It's a small thing, but I loved tasting different doughnuts while I waited, and honestly, it never kept me from buying). Please. Pretty please? Things I love: - Apple fritters (cannot be beaten and they are offered in half-sizes, plus you can buy them frozen and they reheat beautifully). - Chocolate long-john's filled with custard (not cream). - Chocolate-iced cake doughnuts - New decor. - No drive-through (I mention this because I heard they were considering offering one. I don't think this is a good idea for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is that people actually talk to each other inside the Donut Palace. I love seeing friends/neighbors in there. This place is the BEST in the area! Stopped in here over Christmas break and was so excited to see such an amazing variety of not only great looking but also HUGE doughnuts! You certainly get your money's worth here. We ended up getting a dozen assorted and they were all so very tasty.
