Deceptive billing, silica dust disaster, and legal threats…read more This review is for: Floor Coverings International of Melbourne, FL (321) 499-2658 1270 Lake Washington Road Ste B Melbourne, FL 32935 Arthur Layman Tamara Whiteaker What started as a straightforward carpet replacement on our stairs turned into one of the worst contractor experiences I've had. Here's the full picture: Scheduling: Installers no-showed on the first scheduled date with no proactive communication. I had to call after they were already outside the arrival window to find out they weren't coming. Tile demo and dust: When installers discovered tile under the carpet, we were quoted a "worst case scenario" additional cost of $1,600 on top of the original $1,414.47. What they didn't mention was that the demo crew would leave every surface in our entire home -- upstairs, downstairs, soft furnishings, drapes, and our HVAC system -- coated in fine silica dust. No containment, no warning, no protection of any kind. This isn't just a mess, it's a serious health hazard. Even the lead demo worker acknowledged as he was leaving that he wouldn't be happy if it were his house. "Making it right": The company promised to make it right with a cleaning and a painter for the damaged walls and stairs. At no point during this process did anyone mention we would be charged for these remediation services. We have doorbell camera footage of the painter telling his worker that the flooring company was paying him -- not us. The cleaning was incomplete, with silica dust remaining on soft surfaces and in the HVAC. Surprise invoice: After carpet was finally installed, we received an invoice with a painter line item exceeding $1,000 -- no prior quote, no agreement, no breakdown. The work took under 2 hours and does not look good (bad sanding, one coat of paint - see through). We are going to get quotes to have it redone. The owner also revealed $200 of that line item was his personal fee for "coordinating" the painter. Threats: When my husband called to dispute the painter charge, the owner threatened small claims court if the full invoice wasn't paid within days, rather than engaging in any good-faith discussion. We are willing to pay what we actually agreed to despite the damage done to our home and belongings. Instead, we've been met with threats. Arthur failed to provide itemized cost breakdown as requested. Arthur failed to provide contractor license numbers as requested. Arthur subsequently sent a second threat for small claims court, followed by a threat to file a lien against our property. I mailed a letter and check for $2,329.14 (the total for what we had actually discussed), which was cashed. Arthur sent another letter threatening small claims again for the painter line item. On top of all of this, the carpet on the stairs looks like garbage. It is shedding all over even after vacuuming, the corners are popping out. We purchased the most expensive carpet option he showed us. I would give anything to go back in time and just leave the old carpet. This has not been an improvement to our home. This has been a nightmare.

Doors by Tim is more than just a door company..they also do windows, sliders, and bathroom remodeling! I had them remodel my master bathroom after my ex left it destroyed then moved out. They helped me design the space so that it would work for my needs. I gave the staff my list of materials that I picked out and they went to the store and picked it up for me. Being a single mom that was very helpful not having to lug everything home myself. The whole bathroom model only took a week! Everyday they left the site clean and hauled away all the materials. I LOVED not having a dumpster left in my driveway which I have had with previous contractors. I also purchased my vanity from their showroom. I am very impressed with their selection of vanities and the quality. I did not want a cheap vanity that wouldn't hold up in the bathroom. Definitely a quality product for a great price. I have also been looking at their doors. I want to get my front door and side door replaced soon so I will definitely be using them for that. I have referred them to many people. In fact, I have them doing work at my parents house replacing windows, sliders, and a bathroom! You will be thrilled that you chose to work with them. read more

I am getting two doors replaced by them and I couldn't be more excited. I have shopped around and most places have cheap doors. I do not want to replace my door every few years. I have boys so they can be rough on my house. The old owners threw on cheap doors just to sell the house. There are huge gaps and the front door is peeling away at the bottom. I love that they have a showroom that I can go to look at the doors. Beautiful selection. Their staff is very knowledgeable about what they offer. I do my research on everything I buy so I know that they sell top noche products. The selection of doors they offer will definitely satisfy any style home. I didn't want glass in my doors and they have a nice variety of no glass doors. Tim is great to work with. He told me that he has been in this business for a long time and I can tell. Any questions I had about my doors, the quality, and the install process he was able to answer. My next project is to replace my old metal sliding glass doors. I thought, ok, I'll try them. Big mistake. I paid $289.00 for a service call and to remove the emergency bolt from my garage, as I had no key. Once open, Chris was basically at a loss as to why all my remotes were not working. Diagnosis was a possible bad circuit board and recommended that since the garage opener was 20 years old, it was best to replace it. I was anxious to get the door fixed, agreed, and he informed me that they do not carry the size motor for a single door. He suggested to me to go to Home Depot!!!! He was aware beforehand that he was called to repair a single garage door and could have mentioned that on the phone. I was speechless. I am still upset that I called this company and did not wait until Monday to call the best garage door repair company in Indian River County. On Monday morning, my door was fixed within an hour. I am out $289.00 I was quoted this amout prior to him coming, I was not made aware that they don't carry garage door motors for single garages and that they would not be able to repair replace my motor, if that were the problem. I am a senior on a fixed income and I feel that I was deceived. If you think you may not be able to fix the problem, don't make the service call. The possibility that the motor or circuit board was shot should have come to your mind when I described the issue with the remotes. I am still fuming. Very expensive lesson learned.

Long read but worth it if you're wanting an honest review…read more Wed 8/13 was our start date for our new roof. Tues 08/12 we had the materials dropped off and a dumpster which was dropped off in front of our garage blocking in our mode of transportation. We were not notified of this prior or at the time of the drop off so we can make arrangements. There was also tire marks from the tow vehicle which broke a section of our driveway. The project was started on the 13th and the workers were using our plants as a clothesline for dirty sweaty clothing. Besides that and some minor trash left in our yard the work was excellent and done fast. On Thur 8/14 I texted the company about our trapped vehicle and asked when they could move the dumpster as it was blocking my wife in and our vehicle we use. I was told it was going to be passed along. Fri 8/15 the roof was "mostly" done except for a garage vent due to the part not showing up. When the project was done for the day the site manager spoke to my wife where he apologized for the dumpster and even said that it was full day 1 and should have been collected already. He mentioned how they had been trying to reach the company to move it since Thur with no luck. I explained we were supposed to be going out of town for my wife's bday and needed the vehicle but was told there was nothing that could be done. No offer from the company for any correction or fixing of the situation. Sat went by with no update or movement of the dumpster. Sun and there was again no update or movement. I then reached out to the company again who told me the dumpster company said they would "try" to get there Sat (which didn't happen). I explained to them some sort of arrangement was going to have to be made so we could get to work etc. I was finally able to get ahold of the dumpster company myself who alleged he was not notified to pick up the dumpster until 3pm Fri 8/15. He told me I could do what I needed to do (as in towing it myself and I could bill G&G). The tow company then came and retrieved the dumpster on Mon 8/18. After all this I took the time to walk the property and found some of my wife's plants were taken (cleanly cut/taken) despite her GIVING them some for free beforehand. As well as material bags/trash near our pool enclosure and the cable cord from removing our dish just freely hanging at head level where they clearly didn't want to use a ladder to cut it from the soffit. We had a tire that was punctured by a left nail. Also was told by the inspector that they covered my dryer vent and they had to forcefully open it as in the state it was done there was a risk of a fire/clog. Due to all this, I contacted the manager Jamie. Jamie came out himself and tried to right the situation and offered kind words. Jamie then advised he would look into some compensation or reimbursement via taking a small amount off the final bill which was originally 18,710 (500 was paid at time of signing and 18,210 was outstanding). When I got the invoice it was showing 18,310 out standing as they had extra material used. I again contacted Jamie who then adjusted the final invoice to be 18,181 which ended up being just about the same as what WOULD have been due. I informed them I needed certain documents that insurance requested prior to payment (like final inspection, wind mitigation etc) and took multiple follow ups over a couple of weeks. Once I got a response I was told they needed to come back out as the photographs that SHOULD have been in the system was not on their end. They would then be in touch to get me the requested forms and I would give payment. A couple more weeks passed and Once received, I explained due to all the circumstances I did not feel the wrongs were righted and paid my invoice (October 27th) Overall the work looks great and the price is competitive. The initial estimate/estimator (Justin) process was by far the best of the other company's we had come out. But the other circumstances and lack of responsibility or accountability makes me drop what otherwise would have been a great (5 star) review.

Last time was 16 years ago not only did he come out in a very reasonable amount of time to fix it, but the charges or the prices were also reasonable as well, they do a very professional job and are particular with details even on the latest and best equipment needed which is important to me in a business. We have been longtime customers of them obviously before 16 years ago when the first spring broke yes indeed 16 years ago is a long time for it to last and our garage door has withstood many hurricanes (knock on wood and from my lips to God's ears) and we have never had any major issues other than what's expected with a over 16 year plus garage door, that's hurricane proof. I was referred to Pingston by my realtors in July while under contract to purchase a home. I wanted…read morea quote for the replacement of the two prong outlets in the home with three prong. I was verbally quoted around 1000 dollars for the work by reception, which included installing GFI breakers and replacing the outlets. I scheduled this work to be completed immediately after closing on the home. After the home inspection was completed, I sent the report to Pingston and asked for a quote on what it would cost to address the electrical issues and also replace the two prong outlets, with the priority being the latter. One of Pingston's electricians verbally quoted me $750 for all of the work, and I agreed. On the day an electrician came to do the work, I talked him through what was to be done. He had the inspection report in hand, but I advised him to not complete some of the items as we would be remodeling and it would not be necessary. I also let him know that the outlets were priority. He said he would call me with questions. Four hours later I received a call that his work was complete. To my surprise, the outlets hadn't been replaced. I reiterated that the outlets were the priority for the job, but the electrician needed to go to another home. I called reception and they said would not be able to get back out to my place to complete the job for a few weeks. In addition, I would be required to pay more than I was quoted for all of the work. It felt very dishonest, and I would expect a reputable business to honor their commitment and make things right when there was clearly miscommunication on their part. When I made it home, I was not happy to discover that some work had been completed without my permission. It seems that the easiest tasks were completed (like disconnecting a light fixture), but what I had originally asked for (the outlets and GFI breakers) were ignored. I also discovered that a circuit had been disconnected for some reason, which caused the ceiling fan in my living room to stop working. So not only did the job get left unfinished, but they literally created another problem with my electrical. When I raised the issue with the office they did send someone out to fix it later in the day, but the entire situation could have been avoided if I had been consulted by the electrician on the day of (like he said he would) and if the office had properly communicated what work was to be completed to the electrician. I do not think anyone I interacted with at Pingston is a bad person. I had high expectations for this company as they had been recommended by my realtors, and they're certainly not cheap. But based on my experience and how everything was handled, I definitely would not recommend Pingston. They did take some money off of my bill, but at the end of the day what I had originally asked for was not completed. Spend your money elsewhere if you value a business that prioritizes customer satisfaction.
