My heirloom E. Howard & Company banjo clock circa 1865. Note the Tiffany lampshade in reflection...

What a joy to have true professionals allow me to watch them at work. Max machined a spring that must have somehow gotten lost by an earlier repair effort. After all, in its one-hundred-sixty years, it had to have some maintenance. Now the minute hand has the proper tension. Listening to Max and Dorian evaluate the best refinements for my great-grandfather's clock was like being allowed in an operating room with doctors who love their work and know just what to do for their patient. Their mutual respect--and expertise--made my day. And my clock work!

Mr Clair gave me the small part I needed for my E. Howard wall clock. It runs perfect, many thanks for the part.

We purchased a grandfather's clock and gave them a 100 year old cuckoo clock for repair in 2022…read more Roy lost our clock. I have made numerous attempts to find it, offering to come up and id it, and have gotten no response from Roy and nothing but excuses from Carol. DO NOT TRUST THEM with your family heirlooms. The grandfather clock had to be repaired by my brother. sadly, Roy doesn't have the knowledge or skills do do it correctly, and the other cuckoo clock we had him "repair", has never kept time. There is a reputable clock repair shop in San Mateo on El Camino at 25th Ave that knows what he is doing, and we will go there from now on. In terms of our lost clock, I even asked if we could pick one from the shop to replace it, again, no response. I will be reporting this business to the State of CA, and will probably end up suing them. Save yourself the aggravation and don't do business with them.

We paid Roy, the owner, for services for the move and for maintenance service. When clock was delivered it was working for 5 hours and then would stop. Roy came by the house at least 8 times, same issue. This has been going on since August 2024. Straw that broke the camel's back, he came back with his assistant Josh on May 10, 2026, and we were assured the clock was fixed. Same problem, clock stopped after 5 hours. Several messages were left for Roy and Carol. I received a call from Roy May 19, 2026. He advised that we broke the clock, that someone took out the facing and dropped it and damaged the hand on the clock. I advised him no one touched the clock. Roy was the only one that serviced the clock, as a matter of fact he took the facing off the clock to the shop several times. I asked Roy for his insurance broker information to submit a claim. He advised he does not have any insurance. Save yourself the aggravation and don't do business with them.

I researched and learned that these machines actually need maintenance and cleaning. I guess that's the phrase "he cleaned my clock" came from. I called a clock co. in SF and booked an appointment; last thing I asked before hanging up was "and how much will this cost anyway?" When I got the reply "$600" I decided I needed more info. A quick Google search popped up with Sid at http://www.sidsclocks.com/Clock_Repair/clock_repair.html and his first house call was only $175, more if he had to take the movement with him for a full cleaning. He came today, on time, oiled the movement, and my dad's clock seems good as new. I'm going to keep an eye on it and hopefully won't have to utilize the 90-day guarantee or have more cleaning done. In the off-chance that you have an old-fashioned, real clock that needs some TLC, I'd call Sid first. UPDATE: one week later and clock runs like a . . . well it's still running great.

The first time I dropped off the clock at his "shop", which is actually a work space located in a very large antiques store/pavilion. Multiple vendors share space and Sid is one of them. When the work was finished, he brought it over to the office and helped with the final adjustments. The clock is beautiful and has been ticking away for the last few years. Sid is definitely an expert and has a vast amount of knowledge. It may take him a bit of time to respond to inquiries, but he's a busy guy and probably in demand. His prices are also very reasonable. If you have a clock that needs attention, and you're in the San Francisco Bay Area of NorCal, Sid is your go-to guy!
