Buyer beware. It's hard to tell if these people are just inept or dishonest or a little of both. Quite frankly, we really don't know what is going on with them, but their actions are certainly suspect. That said, we have come up with what appears to be a plausible explanation. At the beginning, while purchasing a new build, we submitted a VA loan pre-qualification form that was initially accepted by the sales person. A few days later, it was rejected by the main office. We then submitted an FHA pre-qual as an alternative. There was no resistance expressed this time around so we naturally assumed that it was accepted. Wrong. The FHA pre-qual was rejected two months later. Two months during which time we jumped through all of Dorn's hoops and gave them a substantial amount of earnest and construction money up front. Rejected after all parties had signed off on the contract. Despite having what is called a "fully executed contract," Dorn announced that if we didn't obtain a conventional loan they were going to unilaterally cancel the contract. It was like we didn't even have a contract. It turned out, according to their own sales person, Dorn has a history of problems with appraisals, hence the aversion to VA and FHA loans which have built-in protection for the buyer. If the house appraises lower than the amount set by Dorn, the buyer can opt out without a penalty and have all of their money returned to them. With a conventional loan, it was explained to us, the buyer is stuck for the difference, protecting the seller. In short, paying more for the house than the appraiser says that it is worth. Voila. By requiring a conventional loan, Dorn's appraisal problems disappear. No matter that that they are sticking it to the buyer. No matter that they are sticking it to vets. The thing, for us, is that Dorn didn't tell us up front that they only accept cash and conventional loans. In our case, all of the preliminary steps had been completed. The city had okayed all of the permits and our house was supposed to begin construction. Then Dorn sprung the conventional loan requirement on us. Although they tried to coerce us into obtaining the loan of their choice, it was not the loan of our choice. It appears to be something like a bait and switch ploy: get us 100% committed then switch up on us. As it turned out, we released Dorn from their contractual obligation. We certainly did not want to try to force them to build us a house after we had lost confidence in them. As they had no leg to stand on, we received a full refund. No official apology. No compensation offered for wasting our time and energy for four plus months. Just here's your money back now get lost. If you should choose to ignore this warning, do yourself a favor and have a lawyer take a look at the "contract" before signing it. It is heavily skewed towards the seller, and I mean heavily, offering little or no protection to the buyer (an example of which is that Dorn thought they could just cancel it on their own volition without any arbitration). Our realtor said that she had never seen anything like it before, despite having spent many years in the business, in two different countries. Dorn's approach appears to us to smack of paranoia. Because of the scenic surroundings, we ignored the red flags . Don't make the same mistake. Be strong. There are plenty of other builders in the area. As for us, we are thinking about asking the attorney general's office to look into Dorn's operation. We probably won't, though, because we want to move on. We'll see. Good luck. read more

8/1/22 DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE PEOPLE!! Dorn Homes in Wickenburg Ranch in the post Covid era has been a complete and thorough clown show. The only person with any ethics and heart is sales guy Jim Clark. He and many other top notch people are leaving Dorn by the boat load. We have a build so poor that we are leaving the $40,000 down payment and walking away from a complete disaster. What little construction we have had done in 13 months is extremely poor quality. I'm convinced that a Dorn Homes bankruptcy is on the horizon! Do not buy 4155 Copperhead Drive, Lot 1066, Lonestar neighborhood, Wickenburg Ranch. They may end up finishing this house but they are covering up a disaster! Trilogy at Wickenburg Ranch ought to run Dorn Homes off their property! My name is Brian Lair and we are devastated to have to walk away, but this place is not gonna improve. The trades are even running from them! 8/11/22 UPDATE.....it's now been 10 days since we walked away from our dream lot and $40,000 down payment. Each and every day we are so happy we are no longer on the receiving end of the Dorn Clown Show. We feel so sad for our could-have-been neighbors continuing the good fight. But when you are dealing with liars and scheisters like Dorn, you get your hopes up and then totally dashed, when what they tell you is going to happen, doesn't happen. The latest news is the people finally nearing closing are finding out that floor tile and granite slabs they picked out is no longer available because Dorn didn't go get the materials. The design center sold the materials to other builders! And then Dorn is making the hopeful home owners go and pick out new materials from what little is left. From top to bottom, the management of the "new normal" supply chain disaster by Dorn has been pitiful. They will simply lie to you, rather than tell you the truth they don't want you to hear. 8/16/22 UPDATE....Yesterday Dorn fired the only person that has any ethics, Jim Clark, our sales guy. I'll say it again. DO NOT BUY A DORN home built in 2020 or later. All the good people who worked at Dorn are leaving or have already left for a reason! They cannot hold a window contract or any tradesmen because they are a disaster to deal with! My old house on lot 1066 is still sitting, rotting in the sun and rain without any work being done on it. If you buy this house on the best lot in the neighborhood, you are buying a piece of crap. read more

In 2016 my wife and I began our search to find a new home. We visited many new home builders in the Northwest Phoenix area. Of course all the models were beautiful because of the interior decorating and options. However, there was always a negative that was a deal breaker not to purchase usually due to floor plans or pricing. We then decided to think out of the box and do a day trip to Yavapai County and visited 3 Dorn Home subdivisions. Immediately we recognized the value, quality, and pride Dorn takes in each and every home they build. We fell in love with Quailwood at the Meadows. Our experience with Interior Logic in Tempe was phenomenal. A half day was scheduled for us so as to allow us to make the perfect choices in selecting our base and optional selections. They even provided us with a personalized parking space and a free lunch. The sales people Casey and Carol immediately took an interest in us personally. They are both genuine and honest people who as time progressed we were proud to call our trusted friends. Both Casey and Carol were candid about base and optional pricing. There were no surprises. They put our dreams and wishes first! During the construction process the construction supervisors Clark and Jeremy made sure everything was done correctly and on time. There were only a couple of small challenges and both gentlemen made sure they were corrected before closing. We were more than pleased because we ended up getting a couple of free options due to the errors. Kelly and Sharon the Warranty people have been there for us whenever we called with quick and professional follow up. On our 3 month warranty walk thru we had two minor AC and plumbing issues and both concerns were corrected promptly. We purchased a new Dorn home in Prescott Valley's Shadow Ridge in Pronghorn Ranch (PR) and the entire experience has been awesome. We started the purchase with Celic Bellin the sales office along with Dave Arner then continued the required paperwork approval process (with Linda Williamson, Jodie Grossell, Tami Mellon and Nicole Mercer). During the construction phase Bob Northcott (Superintendent) kept us informed of the process and answered all our unending questions. During the final phase, Matt Holsinger kept us updated on progress and patiently continued answering the questions. Barbara Bixler completed the entire process with final documents and information. Bob and Matt pointed us in the right direction always upbeat, friendly and professional - wonderful representatives for Dorn in PR. Finalizing purchase paperwork, the wonderful individuals in the Dorn office in Prescott helped us with everything. It was smooth and trouble free. Our walk-through with Amanda Cowin was awesome and informative, she was professional, informative and so nice to work with, pointing out things we had not previously thought about. Then, BING, there was Cade who appeared like a genie, out of nowhere taking action on those little things we pointed out. It is as if we have made new friends in the Dorn Homes family and we love our new home! We could not be more satisfied with the entire process. Love our new Dorn home. We were standing on a Dorn lot overlooking the golf course while watching a beautiful sunset and decided that this is where we wanted to build our home. After looking at the fully furnished Dorn Home models it became clear to us which plan we would choose to have built on that location. We met with Casey the sales representative, who was very professional and one of the most pleasant person you would ever want to meet, to go over the particulars. With his extended knowledge we were introduced to all of the features of the homes and what the community had to offer. He gave us a written time line explaining the entire process. The time line showed by date when actions were required by us and what will happen on Dorn's side. Securing a loan from one of Dorn's preferred lender was a breeze. Working with Pam at the design center creating the interior of the home was smooth and extremely detailed. What a delight working with Clark and his construction crew. His professionalism and ideas shows in the quality of the finished home. We were updated with the progress of the construction by pictures and phone meetings until we could visit in person. To sum up our total experience, everyone within the Dorn family that we worked with was pleasant and professional. Let me first say that the my wife and I have been looking at homes in the Prescott/Prescott Valley area for over a year. We have looked at Dorn homes in several areas and have come to the conclusion that they are well built, comfortable, and beautiful homes. The problem is the sales representatives, particularly a gentleman by the name of Casey. We had met Casey, Jake and another sales rep on previous occasions so he knew we were very much interested in buying at Quail wood.My wife and I went there on a Saturday to pick out a lot. We met Casey, he took us on a tour of a couple of lots that we had expressed interests in buying. On Sunday I talked with Casey and told him what lot we wanted and that we would be up there on Monday to sign the contract and get the ball rolling. We arrived at the sales office around 1:30pm on Monday. Jake met us at the door stating "I have bad news for you, the lot you wanted has been sold, the couple is signing the contract now". Needless to say, my wife was in tears and I was standing there comforting her and giving Jake the "stink eye". So, as a result of being lied to and having the rug pulled from under us, we decided to not buy there. So, just be careful when dealing with the folks at Quailwood. Maybe it's a case of the demand for new houses in the area being so great that some sales reps can forgo honesty, integrity, sincerity and forthrightness for the all mighty dollar. read more

DO NOT BUY A DORN HOME!!! I am extremely disappointed with my experience with Dorn Homes. Their failure to uphold their warranty guarantee is beyond frustrating. We've had ongoing issues with our house for over two years now, and they have consistently let us down. The most concerning problem is our malfunctioning AC system which has made our house unlivable at times. As if this wasn't bad enough, I am currently pregnant and they had the audacity to keep us in a house that reached a scorching 88 degrees for over three weeks during the summer. Dorn Homes' lack of accountability and disregard for their customers' well-being is truly disheartening. It's unbelievable that a company would leave a pregnant woman and her family to suffer in such extreme conditions. The fact that they have let these issues persist for such an extended period reflects their poor commitment to quality and customer service. I would strongly advise against considering Dorn Homes for anyone in need of a reliable and livable living space. This has been a nightmare that no one should have to endure. read more

As with all new homes, certain issues needed to be addressed but there was never any sort of hesitation from them to make sure we were completely satisfied. Buying a new home in these trying times can be nerve racking at best. This was a stress free experience thanks to the great people at Dorn, they updated us weekly with pictures on our homes progress, the quality is outstanding, I have some experience in the construction industry and we have a beautiful high quality new home I could not be more satisfied, if you are looking to build a new home you should seriously consider having Dorn build it you will be glad you did!!!
