Our experience with the organization has always been friendly and professional. They were very concerned about the safety of the puppies and, as we had been volunteers with them, they allowed us to foster for longer than four weeks to help the puppies trust people again. From that time on, we have fostered on and off for more than 12 years at least. I'm so grateful for this organization and how they care for the animals that Somehow end up at the Humane Society through no fault of their own.

I think that the potential for them to be good is lost in internecine battles. I was let loose as a foster which means that I was on the losing end. I fostered from August of 2025 until now, January 2026. I don't know why - I got a phone call on a shoddy cell from 'Kim' and I was expecting it. I *think* I'm going to be adopting a cat with colon cancer. But, I asked too many questions. What i experienced with SHS was this: The charity extends. And then it doesn't. I fostered a high maintenance cat. I'm still not sure if we'll see him again or not. But, according to the call from Kim (that I couldn't hear very well), this is all about some 'lab tests.' As a foster, I am giving my time, my love and my patience. If that's not appreciated, I'm glad that my SHS account page is no longer there. My major concern is for this cat. I have no idea if we'll see him again and, well, I think we need that cat, 'Zoe' but we call him 'Simon.' again. Hey, it's what it is. If SHS faults me, I've got tons of emails and texts that prove otherwise. But, right now, I am really wondering about Simon. So, my star value for Spokane Humane Society is based on one thing - it's about the animals. My experience indicates that this is NOT about the animals with SHS but they can always hire posters to refute me. So, you guys get a 1 from me. Honestly, if I could've given you a negative number, that would have been it. This is not about the ego of a foster coordinator. It's about the animals. Get a clue.

There was no safe place to stop--this stretch of road has no shoulder, no turnouts, and heavy traffic--so I immediately contacted the SCRAPS emergency line to report the situation. I provided the exact location, described the dog's condition, and emphasized the danger: the animal was positioned in a way that suggested it could easily be struck by a vehicle or, worse, run into the roadway and cause a serious accident. Despite the clear risk to both the dog and drivers on a 45+ mph road, I was kept on the phone for 15 minutes only to be told that "they would look into it later because it wasn't an emergency." This response is unacceptable. Situations like this are precisely why many people hesitate to call for help, and why so many animals end up injured or killed by vehicles or left to suffer after being hit. An emergency line should treat imminent danger--whether to humans or animals--with urgency, not dismissal

I have been a customer of theirs for years. I have used their clinic, bought and donated items to…read moretheir thrift store and volunteered at past events or held events in their building. As a dog rescuer I have pulled many dogs from them when the dogs were too kennel stressed for placement so needed more training before they could be placed. I have also transferred some dogs from us that we got that we were not able to place when folks come to us for purebreds in our breed. I transfer our mixes we get once we get them socialized and retrained that way we can make room for more. They have placed them all in three days or less but most in less than a day! Bravo when they place 1,000 pets a month on average. So I am there about 100 times a year and take them around 40 dogs a year and an occasional cat. We live in the country so we get a lot of cat dumping out here. I know I can always take kitties to them when needed. The place is well run and clean. Their staff are friendly and fun. I love being a partner with them to help them place many unwanted pets in this area. I see them constantly at pet events and we are often right next to them so I see all their volunteers who adore the animals in their care. The best part? Their staff came to the dog rescue and inspected us in person in order to be a shelter partner with them! Other shelters have folks fill in forms and anyone can be dishonest on a form so that impressed me they cared enough to inspect us in person. People in this community always need quality animal shelters and this is one of the best that I have ever worked with in my almost 29 years of dog rescuing. Thanks everyone for a job well done.

I've consistently observed animals being treated respectfully and compassionately and their housing seems clean and adequate, relative to size and temperament. The cats are housed in group rooms with lots of places to climb and to rest. I also appreciate how nicely they have dealt with us people. I helped my mom's good friend adopt a cat from there and it was a very positive, easy experience. One year my animal-loving, pre-teen (at the time) daughter asked to volunteer there for a week and the staff treated her graciously and appreciatively, giving her tasks appropriate for her age and experience. She met other young people volunteering there and got to walk with other volunteers in the 4th of July parade, showing dogs up for adoption. Long story short, this is a good place with good people helping animals.

For the past three weeks, I have visited the store every other day to check on a specific bunny named Ollie. I was informed he would be available for sale today, June 11th. During my visits, multiple employees instructed me to call at 9:00 AM this morning to place him on hold, as I would be at work. I followed these instructions exactly and called at 9:00 AM. However, I shortly received a call back from the manager, Laura, informing me that the bunny was being sold to a walk-in customer. Given that I followed the specific process outlined by your staff after weeks of persistent check-ins, I find this outcome very upsetting and unprofessional.

I took my 6 month feral rescue kitten for neutering and dropped him off at 7:45 AM. I received a…read morecall at 3PM stating that surgeries were running late and that I could come by to pick him up at 5:15PM. The cat seemed to be very sedated as he was just out of surgery only about 2 hours earlier. At home he was very lethargic throughout the evening and incontinent of urine. I observed him carefully until midnight when he seemed to be more alert but still wobbly and sitting motionless in an odd position. By the morning he was pretty much back to his normal self and the surgical wound appeared to be clean without any discharge or bleeding. I understand that they are a busy clinic however I assume that my cat was probably over medicated and that the post op observation period is too short for animals that didn't get operated on until the late afternoon. One should take this into consideration when balancing the cost savings

Took pet to Vet and was told he received a cut to his paws trimmed. Called and reported it only to be told to bring the vet bill and pictures. Did that and was told it was not their fault. Manager never called me, asked me any further questions or ask the groomer if they tried to trim the fur and cut my pet on accident and then just stopped. will not be using their service ever again. Poor communication and no integrity. Bad service.

Our cat cat goes outside, roams the fenced backyard, does her outside business and comes back. They wouldn't let us adopt because we already have an indoor/outdoor cat? When we went to their space on Trent, it seemed as if most of their cats had "kitty colds" and were told it was going around the facility. I commend the idea of animal foster parents, but they seem a bit rigid. They didn't even try to get to know us. Good job driving away responsible owners. Good luck to all the future cat ladies.

They euthanize animals and blatantly lie about where donations go. If you sponsor an animal they'll…read moretell you the money goes to that animal. It doesn't. And if an animal is cute and draws lots of sponsors they won't tell the donors when it gets adopted. They'll milk that puppy or kitten for all it's worth, never telling anyone it's been adopted for the last year. They avoid taking animals to the vet for necessary things, even if the animal is in pain. They don't like to spend money on the animals. And I've personally seen them leave the vaccines on top of the refrigerator all day long and then go ahead and use them. (Once the vaccines reach room temperature they are no longer effective. They MUST be kept refrigerated.) And volunteers steal microchips and vaccines for their own pets. All around a dishonest, unethical group.
