For the past three weeks, I have visited the store every other day to check on a specific bunny named Ollie. I was informed he would be available for sale today, June 11th. During my visits, multiple employees instructed me to call at 9:00 AM this morning to place him on hold, as I would be at work. I followed these instructions exactly and called at 9:00 AM. However, I shortly received a call back from the manager, Laura, informing me that the bunny was being sold to a walk-in customer. Given that I followed the specific process outlined by your staff after weeks of persistent check-ins, I find this outcome very upsetting and unprofessional. read more

We absolutely love this place. They have a ton of variety of pet and plant supplies and it's basically a free zoo. The kids love coming to look at the animals, and honestly us parents did too! We bought a jumping spider from here and she's been the best. She's super healthy and they went above and beyond to help us learn how to care for her. read more

I recently bought a mouse from here for my snake and prior to him eating the mouse he was fine, moving, and active. Once he ate the mouse he became less active and within a couple of days he died. I believe he died bc of that mouse, somthing must have been wrong with it. I appreciate down-to-earth assistance from staff, products that are reasonably-priced, usually a pretty good selection of whatever I'm looking for. After asking if she understood that her associates were putting customers in danger, she made a lot of excuses, but her special excuse was "yes, but the owner of the store hasn't made them mandatory yet. Nw Seed and pet has many treasures to hunt through! I stopped by this location to get some Spokane specific grass seed to supplement my lawn. It was affordable and effective the first time we used it last year, so we came back to get some more this year. I also found tall grass seed and purple poppy seeds to experiment with in my yard. This place has much more than just seeds. They have pets! And not just any pets, they have a massive free range turtle that just walks around in the pet area. It honestly scared the living daylights out of me, but it was also awesome once I realized what was going on. This place should also be on your list if you like container gardening. They have a nice range of frost proof outdoor planters to make your porch super sexy...nothing says curb appeal like fertile foliage. DONT SHOP HERE!!! just wanted to inform everyone what a POS place Northwest Seed & Pet (on sparuge) is, specifically erik "mister i own the store" DONT shop here! these people don't care for their pets or fish. i was in there this after noon to look for a couple betta fish, as i was walking around i notice a fish stuck inside one of their filter or feeder, I went up to erik to let him know one of his fish was stuck (yes it was alive!!) and he goes on to say that it's going to die anyway that it didn't matter, after i told him that was a little messed up, as he never went and checked on the fish because he seemed like he was too busy doing nothing, he started to yell and complain that i was in his store! and to get out, very unprofessional of them, to cause a scene in front of many other customers. read more

The indoor plant greenhouse is really unappealing. Most of the plants look sickly and are not maintained. There is a propagation station in the corner that is the biggest eye sore. I came in in hopes of getting a fern and almost did because I found one in good shape. However, I ended up putting it back because everything was just in such poor condition I didn't want to risk it. I called the one on division and they told me they had sexed mollies and some golden algae eaters. I am disabled, so I sent a friend to get me 2-3 female mollies and 2-3 of the algae eaters. She brought me one molly that the dude said was a female and not only was it male, it looked like it'd been through a war. All fins eaten up. Fluttery scales, big white blotches. And one of the algae eaters, which is supposed to be gold has a gold head and the rest of it is grey/black, which means it's stressed and may die any second. No telling what parasites these fish have. When I called the dude about it, he said that's not the molly he sent. I live less than a mile away and she brought them straight to me, yet he somehow sent a good looking female molly that turned into a wartorn male molly in a 5 minute drive? I'll be taking these back, but the dude was rude on the phone and was a jerk for even selling these fish to ANYONE. I wont be going back. Tanks are gross, too. read more

I bought $50 Worth of fish from the Sprague store to add to my well established aquarium and they killed everything in my tank. The fish ended up being sick but I bought them "right when they came in" so they would not warranty them. They didn't apologize. They didn't offer to help me out with some new fish for the hassle. Nothing. They just looked for every reason they could find to put it all on me and not warranty the fish. I am absolutely disgusted with what this store has become. Someone should call the cops on these people. They keep their rodents in to small of cages and they give them the wrong kind of food and running wheels. Also i got a parakeet from them and he ended up having bird flu! They also kept their birds in the wrong kind of cages. They probably have to dispose of dead animals daily. I absolutely love this store. I always come here instead of going to other places to get my plants and treats for my pups and worms for my exotic pets today, though, I was not happy with the cashier. She weighed the dog food that I meticulously make sure weighed only 1 pound and it came up as 1.2 pounds. I stated to her hey, that scale over there says it is 1 pound. I stood over there for several minutes to make sure that's what I got, I wasn't trying to go over a pound. Her exact response to me was, "yup" and nothing else was said of it. No, I'm so sorry, there should be a sign, or anything else. Just that I am paying more than what I expected because one scale is off compared to their scale at the register. Do you think, maybe you could compensate people for the difference or put up a sign stating that it is under weight? That could be at least done. My gosh it's called customer service. How dare you charge someone different than what they are intending to pay. read more

Granted, NW Seed should probably check where they get their animals more thoroughly, but I have been told that sometimes they get them from people who didn't expect their pet to have babies, not mills. I would be hesitant to buy a puppy anywhere in a time when puppy mills are rampant. NW Seed has a decent fish selection & my bf likes to go here because their trout food is cheap & nutritious for our piranhas & arowana. I got a new tank & did everything right for setting it up with the bacteria supplement and chlorine removal plus waited a week before adding fish. I bought six fish there, despite their tanks looking dirty. I wish I went elsewhere because two died and two more look sick. I went back and saw their red mosaic guppy tank has fish missing part of its tails like mine did before they died. At the time of sale they looked healthy. My husband went to the north division store in Spokane to buy chicken food. He asked the person (krysta) at the register for help. Krysta told him the person who helps people wasn't at work today. He wandered around and asked 2 other people for help and finally was pointed to the isle where the chicken feed was located. I will not go back to Northwest Seed and Pet for anything ever again. The person at the register acted completely unprofessional. Why would an employee ever tell a customer 'the person who helps in that dept was not there'! She blew him off. Northwest seed and pet sells kittens infected with FELINE LUKEMIA VIRUS!!! DO NOT BUY PETS FROM THIS STORE!!!!!!! After losing my beloved 1 year old cat to Feline Lukemia Virus, a highly contagious, incurable and fatal virus, I found out that she was born with it. The FACT is, NW seed and pet will buy kittens from any stranger who walks in with a handful of kittens. They don't require any health records, vaccination records and do not do any health screening of the kittens they sell. When I informed them that they sold me a kitten infected with the virus, they didn't care. When I told them that their negligence put my other cat at risk of contracting the virus and dying, they didn't care. When I told them they were contributing to the spreading of this virus by accepting kittens to sell without requiring proof that they were healthy, they didn't care. AND, they have no intention of changing their practices. This level of disregard for the animal's health and their customers is despicable. Making a few dollars is more important to them than the fact that they are perpetuating the spread of this deadly virus in our community. They need to drop the word "pet" from they're name. If they don't care about the health of the animals they sell, they should stop selling them. If they are willing to sell cats with fatal diseases, there's a good chance any other pet they'd sell you could be sick too. read more

This is for the fish department on Sprague. Was going to spend $200 on saltwater fish but was deterred and decided to take our business to another store. The older lady there made me and my partner feel bad about getting fish and kept pushing customers out. She made it seem like she was selling her own fish rather than the stores fish. This pet store is a disgrace. I got a guinea pig from there who was so infested with lice that his hair was falling out. Even after the lice were eradicated ($150 vet bill later), his skin was so damaged that he could never be petted without severe discomfort. Another time, I went in there with a friend who wanted to look at the fish. I saw a rabbit in the smelly opposite room whose face was crusted in dried mucus. She was very thin and frightened. When I voiced my anger at her condition, the woman working there said snottily, "We're a business, not a shelter." That pretty much told me NWSP has absolutely no concern for the animals in their store or the potential health hazards that could be passed onto humans, due to the store's lack of real vet care or want thereof. I got that poor bunny out of there, and I took her to River's Wish Animal Sanctuary. I named her Lulu, and it turned out Lulu not only had severe untreated entropion, but she had a ruptured uterus. I am completely in shock as to how on earth this Animal Auschwitz is still permitted to sell animals. It needs to be reduced to a pet food and garden supply store. They feed puppy mills thousands of dollars every year and encourage backyard breeding while thousands of animals die in shelters here. Please adopt, don't shop...especially if you are not keen on the huge vet bills the animals from this place will bring. read more

My husband and I went in to support a local business instead of one of the big box stores saw the deplorable condition the animals were in and that they sold puppies and left the store with a full cart right in the middle of shopping. I can't support a store that sells puppies and brings in bunnies for Easter. If you have the cash, they will sell you a live animal. It doesn't matter what happens to that animal once it leaves the store and do I really need to mention all the possibilities? But aside from the most horrific cases of neglect and torture, it is very likely that these animals will wind up in a shelter (if they are lucky) in a few short months, once the puppy-ness or bunny-ness wears out and the reality of caring for a pet sinks in. We euthanize millions of pets in this country every year and the last thing we need is a store that puts these innocents on display for the impulse buyer. If you aren't part of the solution, you are part of the problem, and I am sorry to say, these guys are contributing to many animals suffering and dying each year. read more
