TLDR; Do NOT bring your fur babies here. They will directly mess and play around with you while risking your dog's health & safety. Dealing with your pets health issues can be stressful and dealing with these people on top of it will give you an aneurism. My friend insisted I try this vet instead of the one I did before and I was hesistant (not for any particular reason) until my sister started bringing her dog there. Great pricing! My only qualm about this place since I've started going here is one of the receptionists (I don't know her name, the one with the dark hair) is so rude and disrespectful every time I interact with her. When complaining about it from my sister and friend they expressed the same feelings about this woman. Some people may bring their pets for regular check ins, and some people may be dealing with their pets serious health issues.. Either way there's no reason to be mean when part of her job as a receptionist is giving customer service and the things I have experienced so far is unforunate. Edit: 3/16 Today my sisters dog's emergency was delayed for petty reasons by Leslie. She was told her dog's stroke was not an emergency, and after trying to explain further she was tranferred to another receptionist (Leslie) who was extremely rude and told her to call back in 30 minutes for a walk in appointment instead.. when she did call back she was told, (by Leslie) "what you want an appointment now?" condescendingly. My sister was the first person to make a walk in appointment that day, they told her they would call her back within the hour with an appointment time. an hour and a half goes by and they still haven't called, so my sister called... just to be told they don't have an appointment for her because they did not like our attitudes. I will NOT be coming back here myself. After all of this, I called to get ahold of Emily (the manager who helped me from the previous negative interaction) in which they said she wasn't in office & that they could take my phone number down. I asked to be transferred to her voicemail and they forwarded my call to a random Drs. inbox, then continuously hung up on me.. This place has just continued to be more and more toxic by each experience, despite having a nice conversation with Emily last time. Emily said she wants to make this place better, & I appreciate your efforts to make this place better!! but y'all FIRSTLY need to reconsider who you employ & your customer service tactics.. Because of the nature of the situation (the stroke) and my sisters dog being quite old (he has been in frequently, they are aware of his health) I will be making a report to the BBB because this business's practices are completely unacceptable and i've never been so disturbed Update pt2: Hey surprise surprise it turns out her dog was having an emergency - like we expressed. we just got home from putting him down. you guys have gouged her for money for so long knowing there wasn't more we could do to help his quality of life. My pet goose Mango got his stomach ripped open. I called for 3 hours straight every vet within 50 miles and knowone would see him. One of them finally told me to call hunters vet, they said if I got him there in 25 minutes they would see him. I made it there, they stitched him up and saw him 3 more times. He ended up getting surgery but he survived and 3 weeks later is now thriving and being back to his stubborn self. I never knew of this vet before and I will always bring my animals here from now on. They took amazing care of him and had unexpectedly cheaper prices then any vet I've ever been too. I have nothing but good things to say about the service they provided. The lady in the front receptionist the older lady was completely rude I was told on three different occasions that the trim would only be $29.99 after going in there and paying a hundred for a well check for my dog he needed his nails clipped so the doctor gave him meds that wasn't enough so they he gave him some more meds but when I went to pay for the clippings of his toenails she argued with me that it was 39 and so 29 the money is not a problem her attitude was the problem she was rude mean made my day really bad while she tried but she didn't do it I wouldn't suggest going to this business because she's the first person that you face and she's going to give whatever charges she thinks is what right and what other people have told me of another price she's wrong on every level she's rude mean crude very disrespectful! read more

My experience with the vet herself wasn't bad, but they need to take down the sign from their old location. In the past, I went to the Hunter Vet clinic on Washington and Dean, so that's when I went after I made my appointment. I assumed they were still there, so that's where I went. They not only still have their old signs up, but even the marquee is still there. The door was locked and the lobby was empty. I called and asked if they had moved. She gave me the address 301 West Indiana. So I drove to Indiana, and couldn't find a vet clinic. I doubled back, and still couldn't find it. I pulled into a parking lot and called again. Now I was late for my appointment. The lady gave me the address again and said they had a parking lot next to the Indiana Market. Finally, I saw a sign shaded by a tree bough. It was as easy to miss as the old sign was conspicuous. I went in and apologized for being late. When I told her I went to the old clinic, she smiled and said "We moved six years ago!" Like, everyone knows THAT! "So why is the sign still up?" She smiled again. "Be-cause, we...still own the building?" Like, DUH! read more

After nearly 4 years of trying to get a diagnosis for my kitty, paying for an x-ray, blood tests and repeated visits that brought little relief from her symptoms, I decided it was time to change veterinary clinics. Hunter Veterinary Clinic was able to diagnose and treat my cat on the same day I called for an appointment. I really liked Dr. Fielding and her explanation of the diagnosis made perfect sense. One of the best things about this clinic is their policy of reserving time in the afternoon for same day appointments so we didn't have to wait for an opening to get in. I found Hunter Veterinary clinic when our aged pet bird became critically ill. Dr. Schrag was recommended to me, since he see's exotics. My bird and family were treated with compassion and kindness by the Dr. and his staff. The Dr. took his time to explain our options for our beloved pet and made sure we understood everything. Dr. Shrag went above and beyond with his treatment of our pet. After this experience I switched my dogs care to Hunter vet and Dr. Schrag was amazing with my nervous pup. I've been here with two different dogs across the past two years. Each time, the staff was helpful and kind , the veterinarians were thoughtful and explained everything well. Dr Mark Schrag recently saw my Molly in the Saturday walk in clinic and spent a lot of time explaining options and disease process and such, he never made me feel rushed and listened to my preferences, which I appreciate. The Saturday walk in clinic is a nice option if you can't get an appointment, although I'm not a fan of waiting in the car for 4 hours to be seen in the summer sun, but it is what it is. They start giving out numbers at 8, even though they open at 9, I got there at 0903 and got number 23, so I was there a very long time. I'm not complaining about it, but I think there must be a better way to operate that Saturday clinic. So many people have issues that can't wait to get an appointment, but aren't necessarily emergencies, it's a tough thing for them to manage I'm sure. read more

The staff was nice, but I had been trying to schedule an appointment for my rabbit for no less than a month. Between their awful method of scheduling (Same day appointment only), and not being able to know when an exotic pet doctor was in, I never was able to take in my rabbit. He is unfortunately dead now and I will never be able to know if it was something I could have prevented. They are probably great for generic pets, but do not take your rabbit here. read more

They are great with my dog and if you can't get an appt with your vet you can show up there on a Saturday morning (you have to get a number and wait so go early) and they will see you. My other vet had month long waits and are only open 9-5 so made it hard to get my dog to the vet without missing work. They do a great job. read more

Today 7/30/24 Dr Mark made room in his schedule to see my son's ferret within an hour of our phone call requesting if it was possible to get an appointment. ? All staff were friendly as was Dr Mark, and he is just so informative, relaxed, friendly and not pushy towards expensive tests right at the get go. We both immediately felt comfortable w Dr Mark's approach in treating our ferret. My son has a disability so he easily gets upset and has limited financial resources as well. But he really likes Dr Mark and has trust w the "doc". I'm a retired Veterinarian assistant so I understand more about these medical issues than my son, and I was very impressed w Dr Mark! I am SO grateful for Hunter Vet because they were able to fit me in for a same day appointment after being turned down by two emergency clinics because I had a sick rabbit who is considered an exotic animal (non dog/cat) Because of COVID precautions we had to wait in the car and the office was gracious enough to let me put the rabbit inside so she was not overheating The office manager the vet tech and of course Dr Fielding were excellent. There was a wait even though we had an appointment but then again I was totally grateful just to be seen. The wait just meant they were thorough and I was not the only one with a sick animal. The vet gave a very thorough exam and a treatment plan and the rabbit was better the next day. I have been a client for several years now, starting with "just" my parrots, and then moved my dogs over when, during an unrelated phone consult, Dr Schrag *volunteered* to evaluate my older dog's health challenge-- excessive drinking, but the labs didn't reflect much in the way of organ compromise. Previous evaluation by a different vet had presumed early renal, but Dr Schrag suggested a more comprehensive process of elimination, and brought to light that it might actually be behavioral rather than biological. In the end this turned out to be the case, which saved my dog from unnecessary and expensive prescription diets, meds, etc. Since then my whole family has switched to Hunter we have been very happy! I have found that the doctors at Hunter deliver a high standard of care. They have significant medical expertise while going above and beyond to keep fees reasonable. Needed my sick bird euthanized. In pain. Left a message since they don't answer phone. They texted to call back at 10am to schedule afternoon appointment. Called at 10am and again had to leave a message. 10:30 called again and was coldly told they were scheduled out till October. We have been taking our dog Annabelle to Hunters as long as we have had her (13 years). The service is wonderful. They always get us in when we have a concern. They are very thorough in their explanation after tests. The doctor called us later in the evening at the end of a workweek with important test results so we wouldn't have to wait and worry all weekend. The doctor listens to our concerns and gives us several options, and lets us make the choice on how we want to move forward. They are very knowledgeable, and we have as of yet to come across something they couldn't solve. They truly care about your pets. They have great hours, even being open on Saturday for walk-ins. The competitive, cutthroat scheduling program pits computer users against phone users, but no one answers the phones. Ever. So, the same-day appointments all go to computer users. You have from 10 a.m. to 10:05 a.m. to try to get in and book an appointment before they fill up, and you get to try again tomorrow, and the next day, etc. If you don't want a same day appointment because it's just shots or a well check you call the same number and noone answers. Someone may eventually call you back and try to get you to book on the computer. If you insist, they'll book you out 3 or more weeks for the first available appointment. Then, they'll send you a reminder that your pet is late for their immunization. If you have anxiety, trying to book an appointment will put it through the roof. Sadly, my pets have seen Dr. Hunter for more than 20 years, and I've been really happy, but since he retired, it's just not worth the stress. read more

Everything from the beginning was sketch. Only same day visits. The first lady I talked to was rude and came off as if they were too busy to see my dog within a month and hung up wit me without willing to schedule. An hour later someone with a younger tone gave me an appointment for the next day and told me they would have openings for me same week. I showed up for my appointment. NY dog was given a minimal exam. No temp, heart rate. Just a naked eye Glace at her teeth and recommendation to come back to get 3 extracted. I spent most my time waiting in the lobby to get checked out. The doctor said she would "be in touch" with an estimate. I've never in all my years and 3rd life span dog left a veterinarian office without an estimate. The following week I called twice to schedule or get the estimate. Expressed I could spent 5k to get this done asap. Rudely I was dismissed by the office staff. I've never heard back I feel 100% ripped off of my exam fee. Did i even visit a vet office? There's no pictures of animals, no products or animals food and no pamphlets. I have NOTHING to show for my visit. No estimate, vital signs and barely a receipt beyond my credit card statement. I ended up going somewhere else for under 1k. Not sure what hunters veterinarian problem is. I went in based on yelp review. I hope this does someone better read more

We took our kitten we had for two days to get a new kitten checkup. They said he was a little underweight and cold but otherwise healthy. They gave him a dewormer and some food to fatten him up. He had a severe reaction to the dewormer and died that evening in my bf and my hands. While I do not believe it was the dewormer that killed him it definitely made his last hours miserable. I wish they would have done a better job at making sure he was healthy. Also when I went in for a walk in for my other cat they did not inform me on the 2+ hour wait time and I wish they had before I sat there forever with a cat that hates being in a car. I eventually decided that he needed to go home and gave up, definitely never trying here again. Both of the cats are pictured. read more

I called this morning and talked to the receptionist about getting a booster for my kitten so I didn't have to restart the shots at my regular vet. She was very friendly and answered all the questions I needed- which was just the cost of the booster and I said she doesn't need anything else because we were just at my vet a few weeks ago. When I went in the woman who came to get my kitten was very rude and made me feel uncomfortable. When I got the kitten back I handed my card over only expecting to pay $32 for the one booster. Not $53 because the exam they tacked on that I did not agree to, and the receptionist earlier stated it would just be the one booster. I did not have the extra cost planned out and now my account went overdraft. I am beyond upset. I do not recommend this vet to anyone- go somewhere else. I feel mislead and mistreated as a new patient. read more

They call to check in after they see her...we can always get in if we have an issue...and they are always quick to call with test results (even on Saturdays instead of making us wait til Monday). I had heard wonderful things about Brian Hunter. However, my cats kept getting shuffled off to Mark Schrage. It's unfortunate that Brian Hunter died. I might still go there to try to get my cats in to see him. As it was, our girl cat went there for bloody urine - diagnosis, UTI. Part of the diagnosis was a urinalysis. I was given a few options: centesis or keep the cat in the clinic overnight and wait for the cat to void. I opted for the keep the cat in the clinic and wait for the cat to void option. At about 10 am, not having heard from Hunter vet clinic, I called. The person that I spoke to told me that my cat had still not peed. OK. So, I called again at about 1 pm and was told that the urinalysis was complete. So, I went to retrieve my cat. While I was there, I was handed a bill that was nearly $100 more than I was quoted because, as the person at the front desk told me, my cat wouldn't pee and a centesis was performed at 8 am THAT MORNING. I paid. Two weeks later, the cat needed another urinalysis. It was a repeat: the cat sat in one of their cages over night. I called at about 10 am to find out if the cat was ready for me to go get her. The person who spoke to me told me no, that the the vet was still waiting for her to pee. So, I called again at about 1 pm and I was told that the cat was ready to go. AGAIN...I was handed a bill that was $100 more, with the notice that the vet had been in at about 8 am to perform this centesis. I paid. I've never gone back. read more

I cannot rave about the front office staff and Dr. Schrag enough, they have gone above an beyond for myself and my cat. Let me just start out by saying that during this visit, my first visit with Dr. Schrag, my 4-year-old cat was diagnosed with cancer in her stomach as was given 2-4 weeks to live. During the entire process of learning my boo had a death sentence the staff and Dr. Schrag were nothing but amazing. They took SO much time for me, let me come ask questions, sat with me, and repeatedly explained things to my shocked self. They gave me choices for treatment, explained all the costs and differences and gave me the weekend to think about it. When I made up my mind it was a simple trip to pick up everything I needed and I mean everything, from prescription food, food lids, a pill gun, and medication. All at reasonable prices, I was never shocked at the amount, for the visit or medication cost. The most expensive thing was the ultrasound that had to be done off-site during the diagnoses phase. Wait that's not all: I moved to Portland soon after and was really disappointed to have to leave them. On a trip back to Spokane I needed to pick up more medication for my cat, since I had yet to find any wet as great there, and went to the office on a Saturday at 2:00 far after they had closed, not knowing their hours, and one of the Doctors opened the doors for us and let us pick up the medication! It was a life saver without that my cat would have been miserable for at least a week. I now have finally established a vet here, still not as great, and have kept in email contact with Dr. Schrag asking his opinion on the recommendations that this vet is making. And even though I'm not a current customer, he answers and helps me through and through. Hunter's Vet and Dr. Schrag are still my top vet, even if they are 5.5-hours away now. Due to treatment and all there help my kitty as made it a whole month so far! Anything past this is a blessing. Also a side note: I was recommended to Dr. Schrag and Hunter's Vet by a good friend who has pet rats, no one else in Spokane had shown her the time, compassion, and thorough understanding as he did. read more

Sadly, the list of complaints I have is long and primarily involves how cheap, mean and spiteful the owner, Dr. Mark Schrag is. I pushed back on a charge for pain medication that I, in error paid for, but did not order or request refilled. The argument with the owner ended with him indicating that he would credit me but then cancelling my appointment the very next day for my 19 year old arthritic cat for a pain management shot. In my opinion, this goes against the very nature of how I define a "successful" or "good" veterinarian and proves the doctor's ego is bigger than his business of helping pets. Ironically, a year ago, my husband purchased elderly cat food that was very expensive and he donated it to this practice when the cat passed away. This clinic had no problem accepting this brand new & unopened/untouched specialized food as a gift but balks at returning medication that was not requested. The front desk is where first impressions are made, and the receptionist was flat out rude to me. My usual vet is booked out one month, but they said Hunter does walk-ins. Yesterday I called first and was told that I could come in as a walk-in today with my cat who has blood in her urine. So I came in with my cat thinking I could see a vet today, but they handed me a piece of paper with a code for my phone and said that I would need to use this code to setup an appointment for tomorrow. They would not even set one up while I was standing at the front desk. I tried to use the code to setup a walk-in appointment from my phone, but the system would not take a new appointment with the code until after 10:00 am tomorrow?!!!. After dragging my poor cat across town in the heat with a painful infection, the woman at the front desk wasn't even polite about it. Luckily I was able to find another urgent care appointment elsewhere today. I won't be going back. read more

Clinic was recommended to me by one of the local shelters when I was trying to get a well-baby check for 3 foster kittens. Clinic seemed great, easy appt, good front desk staff, technicians, etc. Then the doctor refused to come to the room. They wanted the tech to take my kittens back to another room where it would be quieter. There was no noise in our room. When I pushed as to why that was necessary, the reason changed to more hands available. The kittens weren't being aggressive. Then the reason changed to it was easier for the doctor, which is not my problem. When I said how am I supposed to talk to the doctor if she doesn't come to the room, the tech said she'll come after she sees the kittens. So she can walk down the hall to talk to me, but she has to see the kittens in private? I said no, the tech left to talk to the doctor and never came back. I don't know what was going on, they obviously have good overall reviews, but they weirded me out with their changing reasons as to why they should take the kittens from me. I left. read more

This clinic needs 4-5 stars for Dr. Shrag and 0-1 star for Dr. Hunter. They have a wonderful walk-in clinic and x-ray pricing policy. Their prices are very reasonable for returning patients. Dr. Hunter comes across as accusatory, mean, and uncaring. I had a cat who I was told nearly lost a paw because of following his medical advice. On the other hand I have a dog who was abused before I got her and so is very difficult to work with. Dr. Shrag handles her and her needs with affection and patience. By all means bring your animals here, but make sure that you will not have them seen by Dr. Hunter. read more

I cannot say enough great things about Hunter Veterinary Clinic. The walk in hours allow for so much flexibility, you might have to wait a while but it's worth it to be seen when you need to be. They gave our new puppy his shots and gave us great advice on food and training. Our older dog hates the vet and normally won't eat in front of strangers but Dr. Cobb had her eating treats out of her hand in no time. She was so patient and sweet with my anxious dog. Every visit we have had has been pleasant and informative. They go above and beyond EVERY SINGLE TIME. We thought we needed dental work for our older dog but the doctor saved us almost $500 by recommending a toothpaste for the little bit of tartar she had. We thought our puppy broke his paw but the doctor assured us he was fine after an exam instead of performing unnecessary and expensive x rays. It's nice to know that they are budget conscious. It's small, the parking lot is tiny, and the wait is always long but that's because it's the best. read more

Under Dr. Hunter's ownerships this was undoubtedly the very best in Spokane. However since Dr. Hunter sold the clinic we have been disappointed with the service. Misdiagnosed our 8 year old dog that had never been to any other clinic. Our beautiful and beloved Shitzu passed away a couple of days after we took her to another veterinarian and received a diagnosis of advanced Cushing Disease. Had we received the diagnosis at the time we took her to Hunter with the same, although not as pronounced, symptoms we could have started life saving medication. read more

Never again will I bring an animal to this clinic! I've had family members swear by this clinic for years - and the few times I've gone there before today I've been satisfied with the service. Today was a completely different story. We took our cat up today after he started having some issues/pain urinating. They told us he had a urinary blockage problem would be fine for a day and to bring him back tomorrow. As the night went on he got worse and worse to the point he was almost passing out (trying to urinate his eyes would squeeze shut and he'd start convulsing). Hunter's was closed at this point so I called two other clinics to get opinions. Both urged that I take him to emergency care because this could very well be life threatening. If they were recommending that I bring them to their clinic I could maybe believe they were trying to drum up business for themselves but both clinics urged that I take him to urgent care tonight. My girlfriend is taking him up there now and I can only hope he'll be alright. None of my animals will be visiting Hunter's again though. read more

This business is simply the best. We were visiting Spokane and our little Havanese kept worrying his ear. They were good enough to see him on a Saturday without an appt. We went there because our family in Spokane had such high regard for them. Dr Mark Schrag fixed him up with an antibiotic for his ear infection and gave us another helpful medication. I noticed what I thought might have been a small error in our invoice and called once we got back to Seattle. The doctor himself returned my call and his staff remedied it immediately. Took my dog to this place with a swollen face. The doctor looked at her teeth, said nothing was wrong with her teeth. (That I already knew). Saw her for a total of 5 minutes, after waiting for 30, for an emergency visit. 75.00 later for meds and visit, would not give payment plan, (didn't have money at the time) so they took away the meds that my dog needed.
