This was my first hot pot experience and Double 10 made sure I had a great time. I was new at eating hot pot style but the employees were very nice and never made me feel silly. They explained how ordering worked clearly and asked if I needed extra tools to help. I instinctively said I was fine, but thankfully they brought them anyway because I am not great at using chopsticks! I thought the restaurant and table were clean, which is important to me. The food was excellent, I got the miso broth and loved it. I was shocked by how affordable it was too, I thought it would be way more expensive for how much we ate. This place was actually quite cute and I had a better experience than I expected. Sauce bar had all the right ingredients + noodles and potatoes (and rice chips). Hefty vegetable portions for the price. Taking off a star because the meat was fairly obviously frozen. I enjoyed this mini hot pot concept because I was able to get my own hot pot and control what I wanted in it while other guests can choose how they like their hot pot done. They also have lunch specials for traditional Chinese-American dishes on Monday-Friday. I got the Thai broth, which was like tom yum soup, with the beef combo items. Very delicious. I also like that they have a little salad-type bar to get your usual hot pot sauces and noodles. However, this one is special because it has a few dessert items too. The service here is a little slow and they do charge a credit card fee, so bring cash if you can. Overall though, I thoroughly enjoyed eating at this restaurant and will come back again. It's a fun place to go with friends if you're all gonna split the bill because for a family of 3 people it cost around $100 with no leftovers. I will say I was a fan of the kimchi soup broth, but when you watch people online go to hotpot they like to get the thin strips of raw beef and kinda twirl it around their chopsticks, because it's fresh but here the meat and all veggies are frozen. It's interesting that they seem to have a small selection of all you can eat desserts. But when we ordered the stuff for the hot pot, it wasn't explained to us (as it was our first time experiencing) that the soup automatically came with a giant plate of frozen veggies so when we ordered MORE veggies it was way too much a long with our meats and other items. The waitress was very nice but overall the price to me didn't match up with the quality of the food. Also if you just want Asian food without the hot pot experience you can have that too. It's a very authentic Northern Chinese restaurant where you can try a variety of dishes. We found their homemade pork rib so good and finished it all at a time. It's flavorful and tender and served with good portions. The source cabbage lamb pot is nice to have in the winter. It's easy to park your car in front of the restaurant and it's right next to the downtown. We're told that this restaurant has been here for more than 10 years and you can chat with the friendly and welcoming owner there. Dine in experience was nice and the place is clean too. Double 10 is a wonderful place for hot pot! It's individual servings, which I prefer. They have a few vegan broths and plenty of vegetables, tofu, and noodles to choose from. There are even some free noodles and potatoes by the sauce counter. It's a spacious place with fast and friendly service. If you get green tea it comes in a pot with free refills. You don't have to worry about parking because there's a lot out front. I also love that this place stays open later than a lot of restaurants in madison. I only wish there was vegetable combo. The hot pot is a must try. I tend to stay away from the combos and order the meat and veggies I'm feeling like. I have tried all of the soup bases and my favorite is the Thai hot sour broth. The vegetarian base didn't have much flavor and while I like spicy food, the Szechwan spicy broth has mala spice which numbs my mouth and I did not like that feeling. My go to is Chicken, bok choy, tofu puffs, rice cakes and Napa cabbage. Combine this with the sauce and noodle/potato bar it is plenty of food. The owners are nice and the restaurant is newly renovated. We always get our food quickly and my other recommendation is to get there early as there can be a wait later in evening. read more

I cannot recommend the house-made noodles enough. I could have eaten plates of just the noodle bunches. We tried the miso broth, and enjoyed it. The sauce bar was wonderful, as usual, although it took us a minute to realize we also needed to use the sauce mini bowls as serving bowls for our soup. The service was wonderful, friendly and fast. It's a bit hard to get to right now with the construction, but this hot pot place is quite nice. It has great meats, sauces and broths. I had the kimchi broth which I really liked, with the combo where you get a veg plate and a variety of meats. Others got the Spicy Sichuan which wasn't very spicy, and the miso broth. The pricing was pretty reasonable / sub $25 and they had a little bar with noodles and sauces too. The meats were great, I got lamb and liked it a lot but all of them looked very well marbled. They have the traditional Asian type food but if you are looking for something a little different than definitely try a Hot Pot. They will bring your choice of protein to the table along with the broth you choose and a plate of raw vegetables that you will cook in your broth. They also have a sauce/noodle bar that you can dip your cooked food into and then eat. Create your own sauce or use the recipes provided. This was our first time to do a hot pot restaurant and the owner was so nice and helpful. She could tell we had no clue what we were doing and she was very helpful in explaining how it all worked and showing us how to mix up our sauces. I recently tried their different style dish on the hotpot menu, where you can choose your base and add to it per item. Did not have high hopes for hot pot in Wisconsin but this place was solid! We opted to not get the combo cause it was mostly veggies so we just got a la carte. The variety of a la carte hot pot items was decent, I liked that they had pork blood. Quality was pretty standard as well, nothing amazing but the portions were a lot bigger than we imagined so that was good value. They also have free unlimited noodles at the sauce bar! (not the best noodle types but still nice that it's unlimited) I also would *not* recommend the coconut thai broth since there wasn't much flavor and over-boils easily. We went in for combo hot pot. I got the Thai hot sour broth and my boyfriend got the Szechuan spicy broth. We also got egg rolls and fried rice with chicken as well. That was a lot for us. The broths were very interesting. The Szechuan spicy broth was super spicy so be careful on that one. It was fun to able to "cook" your food and made your own sauce. One thing I didn't like would be their tofu. The texture was a bit weird. The egg rolls were whatever. As for the the fried rice with chicken, there was a small part that had too much salt. Highly recommend the hot pot! My family also really enjoyed it. Do know that you will be MAKING IT YOURSELF. I would recommend asking for help on how the hotpot works. I don't recommend getting the combo plate for the hotpot unless you know you will be using all or most of the ingredients given to you. Both my son and I had been recently introduced to Hot Pot dining on recent trips to Seattle and San Francisco respectively, so we just had to try it here in Madison. Hot Pot restaurants can vary in how they present the menu. For instance... the San Francisco restaurant was an "all you can eat" with the ability to order new items for the entire table every 15 minutes. Double 10 differs in that each diner has their own pot of broth. As for the menu items, there were sufficient options to choose from, whether you wanted a pre-selected group of veggies and protein, or the ability to pick and choose. There were also a decent number of broth varieties... so much so that we will be going back to try the other ones that sounded appealing. The staff was just perfect. Our waiter checked on us several times to make sure we were enjoying our experience. This is a specific note for Summer of 2022: The construction on Blair Street makes it tricky to get to if you are coming from the West Side. Be patient as you will likely need to go past the restaurant and turn on Blount Street to access the parking lot from behind the building. Any frustration you experience in accessing the restaurant will be rewarded with a fun dining experience. read more

I don't understand why so many people gave 5 stars for this place. I think I know about this type of food pretty well as I experienced from many other countries and I made it myself dozens of times. Their hot pot was nothing special but quite pricey. Okay for the meat options but charged too much on some toppings. You will be served 5 fishball for 2.99 and 4 little tempura 2.99 or 3.99. All these were frozen which could buy at reasonable price at any Asian market. Worse thing was I had to request to check my order sheet as they served wrong items for toppings. The server gave us the correct toppings as I complained but I found out later they charged the toppings served by their mistake! I didn't paid for these two topping eventually, but I wonder how she expected me to pay for what I didn't order. Anyway, after take two toppings out from the check, I paid $70 (with tax and tip) for two person. Much expensive what I expected for that quantity of food. Honestly, I don't know about their other menu. Yet this was quite unsatisfying visit. I decided to never go back to this place to have a hotpot at the least. read more

I think my Madison dining experience has just been ratcheted up a notch. There are so many restaurants in this town, but it's easy to get bored. Today I got un-bored. This restaurant is situated in the old spot where Wah-Kee noodle used to be. The restaurant has been updated and the decor is pleasant. There is plenty of parking in their parking lot as well as handicap stalls. The service was OnPoint, and the owner of the restaurant guided me through the process step-by-step. So basically, for those who have never tried a hot pot, what you do is you first pick your broth, then you pick your protein, and then you add in any other Fixin's including vegetables or potatoes or noodles. You are seated at a table that has several different heating elements on it. Your individual kettle gets put right in front of you and then you can dip or add things into your kettle as you see fit. It's kind of like your own personal soup station/fondue pot. They have everything from Thai Tom Yum broth to savory beef and mushroom broth. I chose the mushroom broth and my protein was chicken. I had a great time adding in different veggies and rice noodles as well. They have a noodle bar where you can get as many noodles or sauces that you want at no charge. This is an amazingly low calorie yet very fulfilling meal. This would be a great place to bring a diverse and open minded group of people. Some of the tables seat up to six people or at least have six heating elements on them. I've got a kid who is vegetarian,another kid who loves Thai food, and another kid who is all about the protein-- Now that I've tried this myself, I won't hesitate to bring all of them here. The pricing was fantastic. My meal was $16 plus a couple dollars for a Diet Coke. Super fun, super tasty, and super healthy. I give double 10 the highest rating of-five stars. Great place to try hot pot, but it kind of depends on what you're looking for. If it's a group setting, I wouldn't advise coming here unless everyone KNOWS they want their own hot pot. I've shared one hot pot here with another person where its awkwardly in favor of someone else and it just doesn't work right...although the amount of broth you get would suffice for a party of two. Their set up can be confusing (note: noodles are free if you're eating in house), but I do like that you can just mark things off on the erasable menu if you choose a la carte -- which I suggest because I don't like everything that comes on the platter. I usually get the Szeuchwan broth that comes packing with heat and flavor, but I do get annoyed by all the chili flakes floating or the whole peppercorns. I try to mitigate these problems by eating out of a smaller bowl and ladling out as little chili flakes. They have a variety of sauces and other additional items (ie. garlic, cilantro, etc). So this last time I went, I could've sat here for hours eating out of the hot pot bowl. I felt rushed at one point though (and it wasn't busy) when they started clearing dishes from our table.
