Still ridiculous pricing and the course is in poor condition. They constantly close half the course and it doesn't help. They should think about getting a new Greenskeeper. I also asked about junior fee again and the guy in the proshop said it was only in effect Monday-Thursday. I think we are done with this course. read more

I play this course regularly after not playing it for years. I live in Wimberley but it was such a goat track before the new owners took over. massive improvements to the greens, sand traps, and hundreds of trimmed or dead live oak trees make this an enjoyable and challenging track worth every penny compared to other course in the area. the new clubhouse, restaurant and event center should be ready by year end and will be spectacular. the new owners are clearly committed to raining the level of this once lowly golf course. The price to play has gone way up and the course has not improved that much to justify the 70 dollars to play. No senior discount fees,you pay a tip to a young man to unload your clubs,you pay another when you leave and no GPS on the carts. They are building a hugh club house and the sand they put down on the cart paths is rough and bumpy. The greens are in pretty good condition but the fairways suck. I will probably never play there again. read more

This is the 2nd time I have played this course. It is wonderful they are obviously doing a great deal of work on the course, bunkers could do with some sand, and the new club house/ restaurant that is being built will make this a must go to golf course in the area. Long May this continue. The staff were very polite and helpful. At the moment you can only go around on the back 9 as they are working on the other holes. Course in terrible condition. Staff came to us on hole 16 telling us "carts were due in at 7:30, need yall to come back". The pro shop did not inform us that carts had to be back at any particular time. I guess they are scared of working in the dark? To have my girlfriend ride along with me cost an extra $20. Because they had to clean one extra cart? $20? Really? place is hurting for money I guess. They don't even have a driving range. Will not be visiting here again, waste of money. The course its self is fantastic, has come a long way. Green, tee boxes, fairways, some of the best in the greater austin area. Service by the gentlemen around the clubhouse and bev cart were great. Now the clubhouse and amenities leave much to be desired. 80% of the cart paths are broken concrete/asphalt or dirt/mud. Certainly some room for improvement but will definitely be back! read more

Course is the same as when it was Quicksand. I loved it back then. They charge $50 for a 7:45AM tee time, and $50 for a green fee at 4:30PM as well, no change. No twilight fees. Even The Bandit ($44 Mo-Fri twilight), Landa ($35 after 3PM Mon-Fri), and Kissing Tree ($45 after 4PM)charge twilight fees. They cut you a little break for playing late. And they also have great food, and full bars. And the courses are much nicer, and more challenging. I dont get it? read more

I wrote in a couple of months ago and I'm pleased to say that my rating has gone from a 2 star to a 5 star rating. It's not Pebble Beach or anything, but the change from 2 months ago is worth the 5 star rating. The fairways, greens, and T-boxes are shaping up and getting better every day. Also, newly constructed restrooms on the course are a welcome change to the eyesores that were torn down. I think this is a hidden gem of the Hill Country. I've known the course for about 20 years. It is a shot making course, a little tight, but a lot of fun to play. In the fall of 2022 the course was sold and renamed to Double J Ranch Golf Club. I hear upgrades are coming! From what I've seen from new management, new Golf Pro, and a new fresh attitude, things are moving in the right direction. And the Bar & Grill is back and operational! Great Burgers! Great Margaritas! Awesome Bloody Mary's! With Wimberley TX being a close neighbor, I think its a great get away trip from the DFW Metroplex, Bed & Breakfast places, Fun Shops and good Restaurants. So I played this course for the first time with three buddies today. Prior to playing any new course I like to look at reviews. Some were good and some well were not great. I found the staff was friendly and gave good info about location of #1 and #10 along with gps on carts . You can tell that the superintendent is working hard to get the course into good playing shape. I found the fairways in good shape and greens for the most part are running good. There are some tough spots but they try to put pins in the better areas . Most greens were looking good and I never had to putt in or around any bad areas. I found the course to be a great layout and greens had some break and speed. Not to much hard pan and had pretty good lies in the fairway. Bunkers had good sand but could use a little trim around the edges. This course has a TON of potential to be a great course . The only issue we had was the GPS would lock up the carts from hole to hole. I mentioned this staff and they are working to fix issues with this small problem. Over all I would recommend this hidden gem and can't wait to see how they improve the greens and course. 1 out of 10 I give it a solid 7 can't wait to play again . I've been playing here on and off with family (a member) for 20 years. The course is in terrible shape, even for winter. The fairways are a mixture of dirt and rocks. The cart paths are horrible...most of them are 30 year old asphalt that has been reduced to large boulders. All this and they are nearly doubling the rates for current members. It's simply not worth it. Look elsewhere. read more

The course has potential but it can be best described as a goat ranch. Many of the greens have weeds and are rolling about a 2 on the stimp. No driving range. Cart paths would beat up a tank. Pace of play was abhorrent on a Saturday morning. Almost 5 hours to finish. The one positive was the frequency of beverage cart service and the folks serving food in the trailer. read more

Wow. Ok, I never write reviews but felt the need to in this case. I would give ZERO STARS if I could. What I can't believe how new ownership has made this place even worse. I've played for almost forty years now at different levels of courses all over the country, but I've never had such an annoying and frustrating experience as I had at Double J yesterday. I've played this course a handful of times over the years - it'a always been a goat pasture and always will be, but I pretty much knew that. We had a group of 12 and could only find 3 tee times together at Double J (now I know why). So we ventured out to Wimberley. Ok, so they raised the prices (of course), bought all new carts (not sure why that's what they invested in before the actual course), AND THE CARTS DON'T WORK ON HALF THE COURSE!!! They literally just stop working all over the course - no rhyme or reason. EVEN ON THE CART PATHS (WHICH ARE ANOTHER FREAKING JOKE) THEY JUST STOP AND WON'T CONTINUE WITHOUT JACKING AROUND OVER AND OVER AGAIN!! ON THE FREAKING CART PATH - ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? I've never seen anything like it. Our round took 5 hrs+ and mostly because of the carts! In talking with one of the cart kids after the round, he said EVERYONE has the same complaints, but the owner won't listen and refuses to correct anything. I don't know what he thinks he's trying to protect. The course is absolutely horrible and now it's completely annoying as well. Congratulations Double J! So in summary, waaaaay too expensive, took us 25 minutes of standing around to check in (slow as molasses, asking for player phone numbers, etc.), course is horrible (about the worst I've ever seen, and I've played some bad ones), new carts don't work (actually kinda funny), and don't even get me started on the condition of the greens. When we made the turn and got hot dogs, some kid cooked them in a microwave one at a time. They're doing absolutely EVERYTHING WRONG over there. NEVER AGAIN - STAY AWAY!! Anyone who gives this course more than 1 star obviously doesn't know what a decent golf course is or are simply out of their freaking mind! Somebody REALLY doesn't know how to run a golf course (talking to YOU New Ownership). So you know the old phrase - "Any day on the golf course is a good day"? Played the course again today, 4 months since my last round there. I was disappointed with the condition. We've had a lot of rain this spring so it should be lush. It isn't. Tee to green it looks like it's been through a drought. We're seeing a bad trend with Double J Ranch. It used to be our primary course. And even though most of my golf buddies live close by, it's their last resort now. read more

A once beautiful golf course has gone downhill fast! The course is in very bad shape. Greens are mostly painted sand and the fairways are more dirt than grass. They have raised the prices and overall the course is no longer worth playing. We payed over $100 for two seniors. I hope to see it improve again in the future until then we will golf at other courses in the Hill Country. read more

I'm slightly partial to this course, being as it was the one where I began my journey on giving this golf game a serious go (& inevitably being happily hooked on thereafter) nearly 15 years ago. I've played many other courses all over the US since then and I still find this one to be one of my favorites to play. I'm super happy that it's under new ownership and that the new owners are committing to the massive undertaking of bringing this course back to its former glory! They truly are doing so much work and updates to the course following many years of neglect and run down. I'm excited to see how things come together ( such as the new club house and the finished cart paths.) Still, until then, they are running things nicely. The staff are attentive, personable and accommodating. Basic food and drinks are available at a food truck until the club is finished and pricing is decent. The greens are coming along nicely and the course looks great considering we've been under severe drought the past couple years. Pricing is fair, running about par with similar courses in the area and they offer membership pricing as well for those able to be more frequent players. All-in-all a beautiful and challenging course to play... now if only they could do something about those damn trees I can't seem to ever miss hitting I guess I'm just born to be more of a botanist rather than a golf pro. read more

This is the worst golf course. They have a high class attitude with low class establishment. We got here at 6:30 we were not told what time carts had to be in. A nice young man came to tell us it was time to take the carts in at 8:00 with close to 45 minutes left of daylight. They never mentioned a time to us and claimed they did to one other player. Also the sprinklers came on with human waste in the water around 7:30. Sadly This is not our first bad experience at double J, we have also experienced a cart situation. The carts are programmed with a GPS system with no maps in the carts. We were on the cart path and it would lock up and only could drive in reverse. It's a shame the only golf course in Wimberley has this low of standards and customer service we hope it will make a great rebound soon. read more

Been regularly playing this course since 1997. The course is a wonderful track with a lot of personality. Course was sold to person from California in Fall of 2022. Conditions of the course has gone terribly downhill since new ownership takeover. The fairways are barren, greens have several different surfaces with some on the same green, prices have increased and cart paths are only partially surfaced. There has been large staff turnover, which is very telling. My membership has expired and very sad to say I doubt I will purchase another. Too bad as I loved playing the course for many years. Take it from me, save your $$$ or you will be greatly disappointed. read more

Since new ownership course condition has gone downhill and cost increased. Severe damage to many greens a few months back. Repaired and coming back but way over sanded. Formerly some of the best fairways year round are now almost devoid of grass. Paving some of the cart paths the only evidence of improvements. Carts not allowed in the parking lot due to 1) too many carts left in the parking lot or 2) collision of car and cart. Accidents happen and are the responsibility of the parties involved. In 10 years of play there never witnessed a single cart left in parking lot. Our group of golfers will not return to pay high price for a course in sad condition. read more

This place is an absolute joke! $70 for the weekend and give no breaks if you have your own cart. I've lived here all my life and I promise 90% of the locals that play here regularly will not be playing there again unless something changes. It's a $40 course at best. There are way better courses within 40 miles of here. The new people just don't get it. I'm guessing it will be back on the market very soon. Do yourself a favor and play elsewhere. I promise you will be disappointed if you to go ahead and play at Double J. read more

With this brutal summer & the transition to new ownership, the golf course conditions have been struggling but are definitely improving. Heather, Chris, Zach, Edna, Lexi, Cameron, Curtis, and all the staff are wonderful. Love the track and will continue to get my rounds in!! read more

I loved this place when it was Quicksand, but it has recently been bought by "Double J Ranch". The tee times used to be nice and affordable for what you received, but now they're charging $60 for a weekend rate... personally for what the course provides which is a small putting area and 18 holes it simply doesn't make sense in my head. Because they are the only course in town they can charge whatever they want... But the greens are always in great shape. read more

The only thing premium about this 'club' are the exorbitant rates they charge for a round on a very, very marginal course, with lots of dirt patches, cart paths that are horrible dirt and old broken asphalt, with exception of a few short runs of concrete. In some places, trying to navigate a trail is a bit akin to off-roading in a model- t. The greens are patched, pounded and filled with sand. The ancient, broken down and smelly gas- powered golf carts, with all seats patched with duct tape, are laughable. The bar and club consists of a food truck out under some trees. This sort of course is what is a free course in Austin. The new policies- making players drop bags before parking about 50-100 yards away and walking, is so pretentious ("to avoid traffic jams" - what a laugh) and swapping their coolers for clubs own dumpy little ones ( because they presume everyone will smuggle in liquor and bypass their sale of same) is so off putting. Many other, better and cheaper options for play. read more

Nice little golf course. The fairways are in good condition and the greens a fair. Has a good Hill Country feel, the short grass off he tee box is where to be, if not expect tree trouble with a poor lie. Golf shop is friendly, we had our post round of drinks outside on a picnic table ( due to the virus ). We will be back again in the near future. read more

me and my husband come to wimberly for a vacation so we are from out of town.. we played the first day at this course . They gave us the senior discount for 18 hole which was reasonable. The second day we return just wanting to play 9 hole.. The older man working charged us way more for 9 hole compared to the 18 holes..we asked why and just said very rude that today this is the cost.. we didn't play and not ever return.. read more

This was an ok course and is really the only course that is close enough to Wimberley without driving an hour! We reserved our tee time on-line and it was $50.00 for two people with a cart on a Saturday after 4 p.m. The price was good. The course is in a housing development so towards the end of our round people were just walking through without a care that we were playing. The staff was friendly but, by the time we came back there was nobody left and we just left our cart with the others and left! It was an enjoyable experience as we were just out to enjoy the round and our weekend vacation! I would golf here again the next time I am in Wimberley because of the location and price! read more

Could be a lot better. Decent course in what is and older almost run down community. What killed it is the amount of dog and deer poop all over the course. It was so bad one can smell the poop throughout the front nine. Forget sand traps, the poop is more of a hazard. Also seems like those who live on the course are not happy about having a course in their backyard. But didn't they know that before they moved in? I guess if this is the only course near by it will suffice but I would be happy driving another 30 to 40 minutes to get a better experience. read more

Since becoming Quicksand the course has improved. A good Subdivision Golf Course with lots of trees and houses along fairways. Sand traps are turned over more often and greens are in good shape. A good course that does not require the driver on every Tee box. The Par 3's are reachable but accuracy counts. This makes for an enjoyable outing. Priced slightly above average for this level of course but it is the closest golf course in Wimberley. Some challenging holes (2, 4, 5 & 8 on the front and 12, 13, 14 & 17 on the back). Number 18 is the hole that lets you play easy so you will come back. Smooth and accurate over strong is the key to play here. Fun course and worth the green fees. read more

Well I'm having to do this again because Yelp made me choose a new password and didn't save what I typed. I really wanted to give this course a better rating just based on their greens. The greens are really great and are pretty fast and roll true. HOWEVER, their fairways are horrible. They are full of bald spots and mixed grasses. Your drive is almost certain to land on a spot that has no grass on it. Due to over watering those bald spots are muddy which makes it difficult at best to get decent contact. I really hope that the latest owners of this course spend a little money and time reworking the fairways to match the level of their greens. read more

Actually enjoy this course. Reminds me of the old State Park in Bastrop. One of the things I enjoy most is that you can't always use driver off the tee. The greens are in good shape and they keep the fairway trimmed nicely. You can get a good divot here so stock up on sand bro cause your going to lay down a beach. In regards to clubhouse experience, the guy behind the counter wishes he was somewhere else or we just caught up to him on a bad day. I've played there thrice and he's yet to be a happy fellow but again maybe he's had a bad day, thrice. Or maybe he's just tired of grumpy old people, I know I get tired of them, sometimes even myself. The kid behind the beer counter is a cool cat and likes to play golf, talk about golf and bring you cold beer so tip him so he can play more golf. Couple of notes: No driving range. And cost is to much for this course. Should be more like a $28 dollar of rate and $35 Weekends. But then again what the hell do I know. read more
