Nice little small town steakhouse with friendly staff and guests. We ordered a Ribeye and a Filet and they were both cooked medium and tasted very tender and delicious. Our favorite part were the sides though!! The green beans and brussel sprouts were particularly just wonderful. Such great flavors and texture. The restaurant is small and quaint, if you blink you'll miss it. The service was quick and efficient which is nice for a change. We enjoyed the ribeye and they were both filling and flavorful along with being so tender you could almost cut it with a fork. I'm almost jealous that I can't eat here more often, unfortunately we're just thru here a couple of times a year. This will definitely go on my list of places to come back to on my next trip thru. I went to eat here with some friends after a long weekend of camping. We had just finished up a long drive from Chiricahua monument and we were expecting to have some decent service and to have the food within a reasonable time frame, however our waitress Victoria was very unfriendly and it seemed like she would rather not be there. Our food was okay nothjng great, our ribeye steaks seemed overcooked and Victoria forgot to get my steak Fries until I reminded her. After eating our food we waited around 30 minutes to get the bill, we thought she forgot about us and one of us had to go back into the restaurant to get her attention. After that she messed up our tickets and took another 10 minutes to correct the tickets and get everything settled. This was really upsetting since we were on a tight time frame and wanted to get back to Phoenix within a timely manner. Recommendation to the owner: please get more attentive staff! read more

We were staying at the Holiday Inn Express on a Sunday afternoon and evening. The front desk manager, Susan was asked what's a good place to eat. Since it was Sunday, not many restaurants open. Susan suggested the Double S Steakhouse which was nearby. We decided to have lunch there. Location for us was great and parking lot had space. I ordered a Burger with cheese and bacon. It offer fries or salad. Drinks were refilled without asking as service was great. After viewing the nearby mountains, we returned to the hotel. If it wasn't for all the other great reviews, I may have skipped this. Man am I glad I didn't. From the outside it looks small and might seem like it wouldn't be that good. But as soon as you walk in its cute, friendly, warm, and inviting. The food was great, especially the braised Brussel sprouts. I also had the fried Zucchini and mushrooms and was pleasantly surprised at how it was cooked and presented. It's on skewers and fried as a whole log kind of thing. I've never seen that before and really enjoyed it. The only thing that makes this 4 instead of 5 stars is the salad bar. It's $6 for one trip to the salad bar and the plate is super tiny. It's not a bowl, it's a flat, small rectangular plate that barely held more than a few pieces of lettuce. I managed to squeeze what I wanted onto the plate but as soon as I tried to eat it, pieces of lettuce were falling off the plate. The quality of the food in the salad bar was great, though. The outside appearance might fool you, because it's close to a gas station. Let me tell you right now: DON'T BE FOOLED! This place has some of the best service, and one of the best Bloody Mary's I've ever had in my LIFE! The food is very good. I had the ribs. Although they weren't "fall off the bone" tender, they were delicious, tender, and covered with a great tasting sauce. The Bloody Mary mix is home made, and it's one of the more complex, and satisfying ones I've honestly ever had. (Other great ones were in a restaurant in San Juan Capistrano, and at a hotel bar in Anaheim...But I digress). The restaurant is right off the I-10. My only warning to you is that if you eat too much, then you'll probably be too tired to keep on driving! Their drink specials are awesome. The service is warm, sincere and fast. On a mid-Sunday afternoon we tried out the SS... when we walked in the place it looked like it was closed for a private party, all the tables were made into one long family style table and it was full! But we were seated in back corner.... took a bit for our server to get to us, completely understand big party and all, but I had to get up and ask for dinnerware and our drinks. Well. My steak was undercooked but sent it back and I guess it was ok. I ordered the ribeye steak. However V ordered the petite sirloin steak and I thought it was tender but looked horrible. Someone else in our group ordered the salmon and it looked way overcooked. However on a good note I would go have a hamburger there they looked delicious. The brussels sprouts were excellent as well. Overall for 60 bucks plus tip I barely give it two stars. The salad bar was mediocre. I will keep searching in Wilcox.
