Look, I'm not gonna to lie you...I haven't eaten there in over 10 years. Not because it sucked, mainly because I can't get into the place. It's too busy. Guess why it's so busy? Because it's probably the best Mexican restaurant in Southern Arizona. And now, EVERYBODY knows it. I used to blame the Snowbirds, but it's obviously because of the "locals" now. My wife & I visited Benson this weekend, and tried this restaurant for lunch on Friday. It's small, and they only had 2 servers so we waited maybe 20 minutes for a table. BUT THE FOOD!!! The chips & salsa: chips were piping hot, and comes with a bowl of the best green salsa - perfectly sweet with that hint of hot at the end. Amazing! My wife ordered a horchata which was spectacular. My order- pictured shrimp tacos- were absolutely delicious and as you can see the presentation is top tier. We got their dessert special carrot cake to go and had it later that night. The most amazing and interesting Mexican food I've ever had, which is saying a lot cause I'm from Texas and have lived all over the desert South West and definitely had my share of all manner of Mexican. Where have you been all my life ? I don't even wanna write a review cause I don't want anybody else going there. I want it to be all mine.!! From the moment I walked in I felt like I was in the right place. My son had seen a post on Instagram about this place. Saying it was a hidden gem. And man was he right and were they right!! I was greeted with a friendly smile like she wanted me there, like she knew I would love the food. I just moved here from California and it was like I just exhaled. I ordered the cucumber drink and was given chips and salsa. The drink was so amazingly refreshing. The chips were so amazingly good. They were a little on the done side in which I really like. I asked the lady if that was normal and she said no I said how can I make it normal she said to ask for the darkest chips in the pot. And I will do so on my next visit. The salsa was so good. I'm not sure if it had nopales in it or what, but I can't even explain to you what the flavors were I just know that it was delicious. I ordered the fajitas chimichanga with shrimp. They suggested I try all three salsas And I did and I don't have a favorite because they were also equally good and all so different with each having different flavor components and profiles. The beans and rice were so flavorful, and they even had a chip shaped like a bird in it. My son is coming to visit next week and we are going there to go eat lunch together. Wow wow wow wow!!! What an amazing place to experience. We were some of the first people waiting in a long time before they even opened. We drove by and say this cute spot and it was worth every cent. They do have limited and I mean limited staff and they do have a sign out front that does let you know that the wait will be long and the staff is limited and to please be patient with them. I ordered a 2 item combination plate with a shredded beef tostada and a chicken enchilada it does come with beans and rice. My daughter ordered a 3 item combination plate with carnitas tacos and a beef tostada it came with beans and rice as well. You do have to ask for salsa and chips (it's free) but they don't want people to waste them so that's why you ask if you'd like some while you wait. The staff was super nice and must have the most patience I've ever seen at a restaurant. The demand for this place is high, it was packed and stayed that way until we left. The ambiance is an older style colorful and dim place with Hispanic photos on the walls and plants outside. I took pictures of the full menu, they do have a wife variety of items to choose from, I don't believe you can wrong with anything that you order. Good Evening my friends, today Jen & I are on a two day road trip to Tucson Az and St David Az. It's Grandparents lunch day with Grandkids at school so have one today with Issac and tomorrow with Olivia. Lunch with Issac went well, after lunch we headed down to St David for our local Honey pickup, St David has some of the BEST Mesquite Honey so we make a road trip to get 2-3 gallons to take back home with us. Waited forever for everything as others were being served and checked on. Where most places give you chips and salsa, we had to ask for it, and then it took 10 minutes to come. Check also took 10 minutes to come after asking. This place is small with maybe a dozen tables inside, so there seemed to be no reason for the service we experienced. Decided to try this place again and still not a fan of the food. I had the special which was enchiladas. The red sauce was pretty good but they put so much shredded cabbage on top of the enchiladas I had to scrape it off the enchiladas to be able to eat them. Wife had a chile relleno and an enchilada. Chile relleno was still cold so the cheese wasn't melted. The nice young girl brought out really watered down salsa. Big chunks of onion in it. Chips were way over cooked. This is an odd review. This restaurant is in a quaint little house set sort of off the main road. We were traveling through and it had great reviews and we decided to go local for lunch. There were people eating outside and we signed a sheet with our names to check in. There was a sign on the door that said they were short handed so please be patient with them. Long story short it took a long time to get in, order and be served. Once the food arrived it didn't matter, I ordered the taquitos, my husband had chile rellenos and my brother in law had the enchiladas. Wow! I was blown away by this little casita aka restaurant! It's an old house turned restaurant in Benson on the main highway to Tombstone! Very unassuming. You will NOT get a better meal in Tombstone, so stop herr first to get your fill. They have ample outside seating, as well as inside. Service was very friendly and hospitable. I ordered a refreshing drink that had lime and chia seeds and it was huge! My drink and meal was delicious and beautifully presented. Their chips were very good and you could tell they are homemade! What a treat. This small but mighty restaurant did not disappoint. We were vacationing in Tucson and sightseeing in Tombstone, I yelped to find a good Mexican restaurant. This little gem popped up. The plates of food and good reviews brought us here. We drove by it twice because it's set back from the street. Maximum occupancy is 28! The locals dined here and outsider's we're bringing their friends. We're so happy that we found this restaurant. The eclectic ambiance was charming, the giant plates were impressive, especially with the delicious food placed upon them. I was "greeted" at the door with "Can I help you?" SERIOUSLY? I walked into a restaurant and was treated like I knocked on the door of a strangers house! "I'd like to get something to eat." "Well, is it just you?" ""Yeah, just me. Is that OK?" This was after standing inside the door for over 5 minutes while watching the same 2 waiters taking care of their tables. Eventually the younger one addressed me as above. "It'll be a few minutes. I'll wipe off a table for you." The finale was when I decided to get my food to GO rather than exchange any more pleasantries with them. He brought my food in a plastic bag and the check on a tray. I proffered a $20, and he asked me if I wanted any change from what I THOUGHT was a $12 burrito. "I can't even see what the total is.", I replied. "$17.50,", he said. KEEP IT, I replied and walked out the door. Upon arriving home I discovered there wasn't even a napkin in the bag, nor any kind of utensil. I guess if he thought at all, it was that I was gonna dip my burrito into the sauce??? First time here, although was recommended a couple of years ago by a friend. Asked two different servers what they recommended, what was their specialty or recommendations. Both just repeated "everything is good", like I was talking to a programmed robot. I'm not saying everything isn't good, but every place I've ever eaten that really cares about their food is known for SOMETHING - whether it's a style of preparation, regional cooking, whatever. I couldn't wait, so I ordered it to go. Not especially quick, but reasonable time. The guys need to learn to smile! They don't look happy. I'll edit this to talk about the "BIG" grilled chicken burrito I ordered after I eat it. Fingers crossed! OK, I've tried their "Big" burrito. It was a fairly standard sized burrito, nothing exceptional. Definitely a one person deal. I asked for a side of "casa"'sauce, since it seemed to be all over the menu. They must have charged me extra for it, because my one CHICKEN burrito was $17.50 cash price to go. No chips and salsa or anything else. I'm not saying I wouldn't come back, but there has to be a better reason. Maybe someone else knows what their specialty is? After reflection, I think 4 stars was probably too generous, but compared to some of the alternatives I'm going to let it stand as people need to know which is the least bad of the available options. My husband and I went out to Benson for the day and a friend recommended a few places to eat in Benson. We decided on Mi Casa. It was a bit set back from the street so at first we didn't see the restaurant. The parking was ample and convenient. I think the restaurant is a converted house. The colorful decor, artwork, and music are perfect for Mi Casas and make you feel at home. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The bathrooms and establishment were very clean. The food was flavorful and authentic. The portions were good size, the plating was beautiful and the dining experience was first-rate. The service was accommodating and friendly.
