Hello Friends, Let me start out by saying this. THIS GUY ROCKS. With all the propaganda, and fear mongering going on out her all gun shops and ranges have seen an up tick in sales and attendance. This is no difference. Joe (The instructor) said my class of 61 was a small class. Its located in the bottom of a church. Yeah, that's right. But for some reason in the back of my mind it made sense. Its the south, its churches on every corner put em together and POW!!! BANG!!!! POP!!! here we are. I was apprehensive on taking the class because i hate test. They make me nervous. I finally built up enough courage to just bite on the offer (Groupon). You'll find the same course going for up to 175 bucks. So this is a steal as far as price is concerned, but don't let that drive you away thinking that you get what you pay for. Because you can put lipstick on a pig, you know the rest. Joe made me fell at ease straight from the door. A few hours going over laws and other things required to know in order to successfully pass the test given at the end of the class. He gave ample time to ask question (There are such things as dumb/bad questions) and answered them fully sometimes answering the same questions multiple times by different people without getting agitated. After the class and test it was a short trip to the range. About 10 mins away. 3, 5, & 7 yard target shooting 30 rounds (for NC) and 50 for (SC). Shoot those and boom, your done. You get the certificate and then you go to your local sheriffs office and complete the process. For Charlotte, its gonna take you awhile to get it back (Up to 120 days) so after the class, it behooves you to jump online and set up an appointment, then head straight there to get a early jump on the process. He owns a pawn shop close by as well. I have ordered a gun through him and got a great price and it was here in 2 days. Unfortunately, without the permit i can't get it until it comes back. But he's great, the class is great. And I've referred 3 of my coworkers and lastly its 45 mins away from me and i would still go back. Go Enjoy, TTFN

This was such an exciting learning experience! I was dreading the class ahead of time, thinking it would be 8 hours of a boring lecture. Couldn't be further from the case. Joe was such an outgoing, knowledgeable, genuine, and charismatic guy. He taught the rules and regulations with interesting stories and interactive examples which helped the knowledge stick. There wasn't a boring moment in the entire 6 hours inside the classroom. Once we got to the range, the guys assisting us were very helpful. I had never shot with the particular gun provided and they really made me feel comfortable and confident holding and shooting that gun. This was such a great experience and I recommend it for anyone looking to get their concealed carry permit or even seeking more information on the laws of carrying concealed in NC. Thank you Doubletap Concealed for hosting such a fun Saturday!!

Met these wonderful ladies at the class.

In addition to the skeet and trap ranges, there is a pistol and rifle range further down the road, but I haven't seen it and can't comment on it. For skeet and trap, there is one skeet range, one trap range, and one combination skeet/trap range. That means this place is crowded, so you would do well to come on off days and come early. There seems to be some confusion about the open hours, so your best bet is to just call. (The place is open on weekdays, despite some signs to the contrary). The equipment is nothing special, although jams do happen occasionally. Price for skeet and trap is $3.50 per round (20 shots fired), or $3.00 for Gastonia residents. There may be a bulk discount for groups firing a lot of rounds. Ammunition is available, but you must bring your own firearms. Also, they only carry a few types of ammo, so call ahead and make sure they have what you want to shoot. The range master is friendly, personable, and fierce -- do not get on his bad side, and only come to this range if you can do so with a healthy attitude to safety and manners. To get there, first get to Tulip Dr. You will see a sign on the right about 0.8 miles from N. Chester St. Turn right at the sign and drive along a gravel road to the ranges.

Direction to the ranges are extremely easy to follow; You can't get lost. I was amazed at how beautifully groomed and maintained the facility was. Staff up at the range were incredibly, professional, polite, welcoming and kind. Visitors were well behaved and acted appropriately. Overall, staff facilitates a family and safe atmosphere. Price point was extremely fair. Good value! I'm looking forward to my next visit. Today - Saturday - 27 December was a very busy day; - Weather was gorgeous; Nonetheless - Parking was easy and getting around the facility was not an issue. A+ Well designed and kept up!

Seems to be a well run partnership at first glance. Suggestion: prior to visiting, head to the website, watch the orientation video, and complete the online waiver. They'll have it waiting for you to sign at the office. The office is your first stop, where you'll sign the waiver (after watching the video, if you didn't already watch it online) and pay your fees. A single fee gives you all day access via wristband, and just a couple dollars more pays for the target stands you'll be using. One free target comes with the fees. Staplers and staples are provided free at each range. Office staff can answer your initial questions and get you in-processed quickly, then let the range officers know you're coming their way. Suggestion 2: weapons brought into the complex must be cased and unloaded. Do this before you arrive, and everything will go smoothly. Range officers are helpful, friendly, and not drill sergeants. Listen to them, follow their instructions, and enjoy the day. They've all got different personalities, of course; the Range 2 guys were pretty lackadaisical, while I appreciated the efficiency of the Range 3 crew. The facilities I saw were all clean and well equipped. Nothing fancy, mind you, but still far nicer than most of the public ranges I've seen. It's a shame there aren't more facilities of this caliber dispersed around the state. I certainly wish there were one closer to where I live. But going here was worth the drive. And for those of us who are veterans, there are discounts for visiting on weekdays. Maybe I can take advantage of that some time soon.

It also appeared that employees working the floor were avoiding helping with paperwork. Several staff members would go into the back room whenever customers needed assistance instead of helping. I eventually called the store and asked to speak with a manager, but instead of connecting me, the employee asked why I needed to speak with one and never actually put me through to a manager. After waiting nearly an hour without receiving any help, I ended up leaving. This was a very frustrating and unprofessional experience. I hope management or ownership at Blackstone Shooting Sports looks into what happened that evening, because customers should not be left waiting this long without assistance. If someone from management or ownership would like to follow up about this experience, I would appreciate hearing from you.
