This is my time at a DoubleTree hotel, and my experience was better than expected. While trying to stock up a few stays to achieve gold status, I came across this gem not too far from my residence. It's not far the main road. Remember, this hotel is in the cut. I arrived a bit after 4 p.m., and I was fortunate enough to park by the door. Again, because it's in the cut, I was concerned about my car and my valuables. I later confirmed with the staff that there was no history of theft, but vandalism that happened a long time ago. When I first walked into the hotel, all I saw was a lot of nice open space. It was quiet and very clean inside. I met a pleasant young man who greeted me as soon as he saw me. I gave him my info, and he had me checked in within 3 minutes. From there, he gave me 2 warm cookies and 2 waters. I politely said no to the water because I only drink Fiji or Deer Park. He pointed me to the elevators, so I took my luggage and started walking. From there, I pulled out my camera and started taking pics. The inside reminds me of a very nice Embassy Suites. My room was wayyyyyy down the hall, but it was cool cause I needed the exercise. My room was a King Junior Suite, which was big enough for me. The pull out couch made it comfortable. The room had 2 large tvs, and the sofa bed area had double doors to separate the other part of the room for privacy. This room needs a microwave. However, there is a fridge and coffee maker. My room was near the indoor pool, so my assumption of a sterile and bleach smelling room was the chlorine from the pool. My room was clean, though. The pool closed at 10 pm, so I had to listen to splashing waters, yelling and Beyonce for a few hours. I'm good with that. Lastly, this bed. I am glad that DoubleTree decided to pick a bed that's more on the firm side. I was at the Embassy Suites 6 days prior, and the bed was soooo soft that it was uncomfortable. Not even my normal 6 pillow routine helped any. The main question is whether I'd book again or not. My answer is yes. I will and it will be soon. The staff is wonderful here. I forgot about the breakfast. I got the $16.95 deal instead of the $11.95 continental breakfast. It opened at 6 on weekends, and I was down there by myself, and no guests were there. The food was fine. It's your typical sausage, bacon, regular or cheese eggs, and regular potatoes or the ones with onions and peppers in them. Lastly, you had a choice of pancakes or French Toast. Overall, the breakfast was fine. The staff made it better. They deserved the extra tip. Check out this hotel!

This was a wonderful Doubletree by Hilton. I'd definitely stay again. It was a in a very nice location, very clean and very comfortable. Just wish the kitchen, bar and local restaurants stayed open later. I came to the hotel after the Capital Jazz Fest and had to order DoorDash. Outside of that issue, the hotel was great and I'd definitely stay again. The warm cookie is always a nice treat.

In town for an overnight to attend a funeral. On-line, this location was described as remodeled. I think they must have only been speaking of the lobby which looked redone. The rooms still appear "old". We arrived late but staff members were still on duty to greet us. We had already checked in using the app (definitely do) so we were good. Our room was sealed to denote a COVID-19 style cleaning had been done. They seem to adhere to guidelines with signage everywhere about social distancing, too. Although dated, our room was spacious. For one night, it was fine.

I have booked rooms here several times while a family member is undergoing medical treatment in Baltimore. All of the common areas and rooms are very clean, hotel common areas are modern with updated guest rooms. Rooms are quiet, truly non-smoking, with great WiFi. The hotel bar/restaurant is only open for dinner due to COVID, complimentary coffee/tea is available in the lobby and there are many restaurants in the area. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Parking is free and the hotel is about a 20 minute drive from downtown Baltimore.

Stayed here at the Doubletree in Columbia. Now I'm giving it a 3 based on my bed and the AC in my room and the few staff I talked to otherwise it would get 2 stars. Had dinner in the bar last night. Had wings and they were like not cooked long enough. Kinda like rubber. I asked for them to be well done but not so much. The elevators here are beyond slow. And I mean Slooooooooooow!!!!! I took stairs to me room and back down and people were still waiting for it. The fitness room here is a complete joke. Very small. So if there is more than a couple people your gonna be cramped. So that's it in a nut shell. They room is spacious though and like I said the bed was comfortable.

Claim highest standards of sanitization during COVID-19. There was food left from the previous guest in and on top of our fridge. Staff named Andre claimed all high touch surfaces are thoroughly sanitized and fridges are not considered high touch surfaces. (See all photos where the hotel claims otherwise.) Expedia gave us a checkout of noon and the hotel website says 11 o'clock. When we called the front desk to inquire about standards of sanitization, Andre asked us if we needed to use the fridge. When we said yes he said "well check out was 11am. Do you need to extend your check out time?" Sneaky. Not only does housekeeping not sanitize according to their website and all the stickers and notices throughout the hotel, but staff Andre deflects the issue by using the tactic of "courteously allowing us to extend checkout time". We were told to take the issue up with Expedia if we wanted compensation for this housekeeping oversight. False advertising during sensitive COVID-19 times when hotel sanitization and cleanliness should be of utmost priority. Stay elsewhere. Also, rude concierge Samantha Sutton berated us when asking to see our date of birth on our ID. (The ID clearly showed date of birth.) After being embarrassed, she did not apologize for her lack of courtesy and began using a fake "nice" tone as if to make up for her nasty attitude.

While traveling on Naval orders from Charleston, SC to Groton, CT, I spent one night in Columbia, MD at the DoubleTree Hotel in Columbia. The next morning I walked out to my car parked in the front of the building and found that the tires and rims had been stolen and the passenger side had been keyed. I called local police and went to the front desk to see if there were any cameras. I was told by the woman at the front desk that she saw my car and had in fact taken a picture of it on her own phone but did not contact anyone. She had not called the police nor had she notified her manager. While waiting for police to arrive, the woman at the front desk came from behind the desk to tell me that this sort of crime had occurred three weeks in a row at this specific hotel, yet no additional security was put in place to better prevent these sorts of crimes. She also claimed she had to leave the front desk because there are cameras that would have heard her tell me this information. As I was on orders and had to reach my final destination by the next day, I had to then rent a car and spend a second night at this hotel. I was informed that the hotel was sold out. A few hours later the lady at the front desk was able to find a room that she said was normally $300/night but offered me the manager rate of $111/night. With additional fees that I was not aware of, I was charged $175/night for my second night and offered a free complimentary breakfast for the next morning. My first night was only $111. I am not sure why I had to pay anything for the second night as it was the hotel's fault for not acknowledging this persistent problem and improving security. In addition to paying for repairs for my vehicle, it is not fair or right that I then had to pay for a second night at the hotel and received no remorse or help from hotel employees. I was only ever speaking to a singular woman and it seems management was not informed. If these problems are not addressed, customers will continue to have their vehicles vandalized.

Eating alone isn't a great time, but this crab cake slider (I requested no bread) it so good I almost forgot to get a snap shot of it before finishing them up. It comes with three. They're buttery and the crab meat is so good! From a hotel restaurant?? Surprises are nice. Mmm

The hotel is currently under some light construction as of 16May15 but it was a non factor as the improvements are already standing out. If you see construction warnings don't let that sway you away. I stayed at this particular DoubleTree on a weekend and the stay was great. It is tucked away in a wooded area but still close to many restaurants near the Columbia Mall. The lobby is very spacious which opens out to a larger dining area where you can enjoy your free warm cookie upon check in. Get your cookie. The rooms are very spacious as I opted for a king bed room. The room was very quiet and offered an excellent night of sleep. The only drawback is that parking is limited.

You can either call the front desk to have ice brought to your room or I just asked for a cup of ice from the cafe or bar once in a while. The best part is the location. You can take long walks around the lake but you can also walk to grab things from Whole Foods or visit multiple good restaurants... all within a 5 min walk. Even the mall is just across the main road (although it's better just to drive across) If you don't want to walk there's an entire restaurant in the hotel, along with the cafe and the bar. I was really surprised by the quality of the breakfast. Even the continental, which is typically used at other hotels to say "this is basic and not very good", was delicious. I tried the avocado toast as well and that was equally good. This was one of my better Marriott stays. I will definitely be booking again.

This caused a change in course of events from August-October. On the evening of Sunday, 8/6, we were told to plan for 2 nights in a hotel, and that the apartment would reimburse for up to $200/night. I decided to stay close to my office. So, I chose the Homewood Suites in Columbia convenient off 95 and MD-175. The hotel was very nice; I had a beautiful suite with two separate rooms facing the tennis court. On Monday, 8/7 I had a very easy commute to my office in Halethorpe. I had work travel to Largo that afternoon, but it still wasn't too horrible getting back to Columbia. That night I went to Old Navy/Target in Columbia to get a 2nd set of clothes for Tuesday (since I wasn't driving to VA [where I was living] to get that) and had Mission BBQ for dinner, which I plan on writing a review for. Unfortunately, the weather on that Monday was rainy & cool. So, it was bad timing to take advantage of the pool although as I recall I didn't think to take a swimsuit. The other thing I was not aware of was that there is a free happy hour on Monday-Thursday 5-7 PM at all Homewood Suites. Sometimes it's just snack foods, and sometimes it's a full meal; so perhaps, I could've gotten that instead of Mission BBQ. Tuesday morning, 8/8 I checked out of the hotel, but the story with this hotel doesn't end there. That afternoon I had work travel to DC & Arlington. Arlington work had put me close to home in Arlington near Bailey's Crossroads. I was ready to get my life back on track, but the electricity was still out. I asked the apartment manager, and she said to plan for one more night at a hotel. I was slightly annoyed, but I went with this Homewood Suites again. I hung out in Bailey's Crossroads to let the traffic die down some before I made my trek back closer to my office. Therefore, I missed the happy hour again (It runs 5-7 PM) as I arrived at about 8 PM. This time the room I got was a different style and while big was technically a lower tier room than the one I had, which was a disappointment, and it was about the same price since weekday rates are higher. It was still a nice room, but the bed was queen instead of king. The shower wasn't as fancy, not two rooms, etc. Since I had gone home that afternoon, I was able to pick up a swimsuit. I was able to take advantage of the pool, but the water was very chilly. It wasn't really good pool weather as temperatures were below average for August. The temp at 8:30 was only 69 F. I did enjoy the hot tub though. It got a little crowded with a couple of kids who splashed a bit in the hot tub, but the parents were keeping them under control. I met a guy in there (would've been better if I had met a girl), but I'll take whatever company I could get. He was in town for work for 2 weeks and from my hometown, Phoenix, along with several other people. So, we had more to talk about. I went back to the room, which faced the pool, which seemed nice at first. That same group from Phoenix was drinking & making a lot of noise, which was a little annoying, but they eventually settled by the time I was ready for bed. Wednesday morning, I checked out of the room. Unfortunately, I found out from the apartment to plan for hotel stay until Friday, 8/11. However, the rates were going up beyond the $200/night limit. So, I went with a different hotel.

And, these hotels are usually pretty quiet. * Free perks: As an elite member of this hotel chain, most of the time I get free perks during every stay. These are usually simple (like free bottled water), but they're appreciated. I also like to earn free stays for the future (for pleasure) by coming here on business. Within the Marriott chain of hotels, SpringHill Suites is one of my favorites because the rooms most often have: * A comfortable living and work space * A good sized TV * A mini refrigerator * A microwave * A well supplied free continental breakfast * All-day free coffee available in the lobby Now, on to the details for this specific hotel. This hotel, at the SpringHill Suites (Columbia, Maryland), was very nice during my entire stay. It met all my needs, with only two minor annoyances. These included: * All exterior doors to this hotel were non-functional for entry with a key-card during my entire time here. In other words, one could not enter from either side door or from the back; one could ONLY enter through the lobby. I'm not sure why the other doors were not working. * Unlike other SpringHill Suites locations I have stayed at, this particular hotel removes their free coffee from the lobby sometime after breakfast hours are over. This is annoying for guests (like myself) who like to have coffee in the afternoon or evening. In addition to the nice things I expect from all SpringHill Suites locations, the most pleasant part of my stay at this hotel was interacting with the staff here, especially Ahmed. He was incredibly friendly and professional, and I enjoyed chatting with him. He's definitely a five-star employee for this business! So, in summary, aside from two minor annoyances, I had a flawless experience here at this SpringHill Suites hotel. If this business corrects these two things, this location will be worthy of a five-star rating, in my opinion.
