This was, without question, the worst hospitality experience I have ever had. On March 31, 2026, I booked and fully prepaid over $1,500 for a King room for July 17-20 through Expedia. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we arrived one day late, at approximately 2:30 p.m. on July 18. When we arrived, I was told that the hotel had marked our reservation as a "no-show" and given away our room, despite having already confirmed our stay on Expedia. What is particularly frustrating is that no one from the hotel attempted to contact me or Expedia before canceling and reselling a reservation that had been paid for in full. Throughout the entire weekend I was supposed to be staying there, my Expedia reservation still showed as active and so was unable to get a refund for the insurance portion of my payment. I understand that the hotel may have considered us a no-show. However, I find it extremely difficult to understand why a fully prepaid reservation would be canceled without making even a basic attempt to contact the guest or the booking agency. If a hotel chooses to accept reservations through third-party sites such as Expedia, guests who use those services should receive the same level of consideration and professionalism as guests who book directly. Unfortunately, the way the situation was handled made me feel as though our reservation mattered less simply because we had booked through Expedia. I was repeatedly told to contact Expedia and that the hotel would do nothing to help. One employee even smirked while telling me this. The lack of empathy was incredibly disappointing. When I asked what we were supposed to do, given that every hotel, motel, and other lodging option within roughly 18 miles appeared to be sold out, no meaningful assistance was offered. I stood at the front desk quietly crying while politely asking for help, and no one made any real effort to find a solution. One young woman at the front desk was genuinely kind and compassionate, and I appreciated her treating me like a human being during an extremely stressful situation. Unfortunately, that was not representative of the overall experience. I have significant health issues and had been looking forward to this trip for a long time, and instead we were forced to stay at the only property we could find, in an area where the hotel itself was gated because of safety concerns in the surrounding neighborhood. I did not feel comfortable staying there, but we had no other choice. What makes this even more frustrating is that when I later checked this hotel's website, rooms were still showing as available. That reinforced my feeling that this situation could have been handled very differently. This was not simply a matter of a policy being applied. It was the complete lack of communication, empathy, and willingness to help that made this experience so upsetting. Policies are one thing, but basic customer service should not disappear when something goes wrong. Afterward, I looked through the hotel's other reviews and was disappointed to find similar complaints from other guests. That makes me concerned that this may be a recurring issue rather than an isolated mistake. I sincerely hope management takes a serious look at how prepaid third-party reservations are handled and, just as importantly, how guests are treated when problems arise. No guest should spend over $1,500 on a fully paid reservation and leave feeling dismissed, embarrassed, and completely abandoned. I would not recommend this hotel based on my experience. read more

Stayed a few days there with a friend and the best thing about the hotel and the stay was the beautiful lobby (I love art and interesting architecture) The room needed quite a bit of TLC. I'm about 5' 6" and raised my arm a bit too high to touch the ceiling in the shower. No in room microwave, only the one in the lobby near the front desk. Looked like a full bar and restaurant in the area across from the elevators. The elevators are extremely SLOWWWWW. They do have a few snacks and bites for purchase beside the front desk as well and I did see a pool. One of the fixtures for the pole in the shower was lose; shower pressure is TERRIBLE; shower temperature was TBD each time; inside the toilet looked stained/scratched and rusted; cobwebs in one corner over the night table; a resident silverfish in one of the painting mats; should probably try entry doors that go to the floor and not let all the hallway light in when the room is dark; and the toilet made some weird sing-song sound every time it flushed. THE WALLS ARE PAPER THIN! (can't warn future patrons of that enough) Went from practically an adult film on one side of us, to what sounded like a kids party on the opposite side the next night!! Every conversation had in the hall sounds like it's in your room. Lose power outlets almost made me late to work...phones was completely dead because the charger had fallen out. The bed was as comfortable as the lobby was beautiful but those are the only two notable reasons to stay there again if that's what you're interested in. Otherwise, hard pass and would pay more to stay somewhere else. read more

This is my time at a DoubleTree hotel, and my experience was better than expected. While trying to stock up a few stays to achieve gold status, I came across this gem not too far from my residence. It's not far the main road. Remember, this hotel is in the cut. I arrived a bit after 4 p.m., and I was fortunate enough to park by the door. Again, because it's in the cut, I was concerned about my car and my valuables. I later confirmed with the staff that there was no history of theft, but vandalism that happened a long time ago. When I first walked into the hotel, all I saw was a lot of nice open space. It was quiet and very clean inside. I met a pleasant young man who greeted me as soon as he saw me. I gave him my info, and he had me checked in within 3 minutes. From there, he gave me 2 warm cookies and 2 waters. I politely said no to the water because I only drink Fiji or Deer Park. He pointed me to the elevators, so I took my luggage and started walking. From there, I pulled out my camera and started taking pics. The inside reminds me of a very nice Embassy Suites. My room was wayyyyyy down the hall, but it was cool cause I needed the exercise. My room was a King Junior Suite, which was big enough for me. The pull out couch made it comfortable. The room had 2 large tvs, and the sofa bed area had double doors to separate the other part of the room for privacy. This room needs a microwave. However, there is a fridge and coffee maker. My room was near the indoor pool, so my assumption of a sterile and bleach smelling room was the chlorine from the pool. My room was clean, though. The pool closed at 10 pm, so I had to listen to splashing waters, yelling and Beyonce for a few hours. I'm good with that. Lastly, this bed. I am glad that DoubleTree decided to pick a bed that's more on the firm side. I was at the Embassy Suites 6 days prior, and the bed was soooo soft that it was uncomfortable. Not even my normal 6 pillow routine helped any. The main question is whether I'd book again or not. My answer is yes. I will and it will be soon. The staff is wonderful here. I forgot about the breakfast. I got the $16.95 deal instead of the $11.95 continental breakfast. It opened at 6 on weekends, and I was down there by myself, and no guests were there. The food was fine. It's your typical sausage, bacon, regular or cheese eggs, and regular potatoes or the ones with onions and peppers in them. Lastly, you had a choice of pancakes or French Toast. Overall, the breakfast was fine. The staff made it better. They deserved the extra tip. Check out this hotel! read more

In town for an overnight to attend a funeral. On-line, this location was described as remodeled. I think they must have only been speaking of the lobby which looked redone. The rooms still appear "old". We arrived late but staff members were still on duty to greet us. We had already checked in using the app (definitely do) so we were good. Our room was sealed to denote a COVID-19 style cleaning had been done. They seem to adhere to guidelines with signage everywhere about social distancing, too. Although dated, our room was spacious. I stayed for one night here. The front desk staff were great, they had a nice bar and the rooms were very clean. They have no room service but you can pick up your order downstairs in the restaurant. I had the shrimp bisque. It was very good and I was pleasantly surprised to find all the seafood they add. read more

I stayed here with friends for a weekend music festival. The hotel was clean and staff was helpful and friendly. We had venue parking but didn't end up using it because the hotel offered a free shuttle to the event. The driver was friendly and safe so we tipped well and he appreciated it. The only thing I would recommend is to add an extra driver for an event or festival pickup since the show had an end time and everyone was trying to get back at the same time. The line to return was long. When the hotel at full to capacity because of a local event, this would be a great help. Breakfast wasn't included but was very good and worth the money. I have booked rooms here several times while a family member is undergoing medical treatment in Baltimore. All of the common areas and rooms are very clean, hotel common areas are modern with updated guest rooms. Rooms are quiet, truly non-smoking, with great WiFi. The hotel bar/restaurant is only open for dinner due to COVID, complimentary coffee/tea is available in the lobby and there are many restaurants in the area. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Parking is free and the hotel is about a 20 minute drive from downtown Baltimore. read more

Stayed here at the Doubletree in Columbia. Now I'm giving it a 3 based on my bed and the AC in my room and the few staff I talked to otherwise it would get 2 stars. Had dinner in the bar last night. Had wings and they were like not cooked long enough. Kinda like rubber. I asked for them to be well done but not so much. The elevators here are beyond slow. And I mean Slooooooooooow!!!!! I took stairs to me room and back down and people were still waiting for it. The fitness room here is a complete joke. Very small. So if there is more than a couple people your gonna be cramped. So that's it in a nut shell. They room is spacious though and like I said the bed was comfortable. read more

Claim highest standards of sanitization during COVID-19. There was food left from the previous guest in and on top of our fridge. Staff named Andre claimed all high touch surfaces are thoroughly sanitized and fridges are not considered high touch surfaces. (See all photos where the hotel claims otherwise.) Expedia gave us a checkout of noon and the hotel website says 11 o'clock. When we called the front desk to inquire about standards of sanitization, Andre asked us if we needed to use the fridge. When we said yes he said "well check out was 11am. Do you need to extend your check out time?" Sneaky. Not only does housekeeping not sanitize according to their website and all the stickers and notices throughout the hotel, but staff Andre deflects the issue by using the tactic of "courteously allowing us to extend checkout time". We were told to take the issue up with Expedia if we wanted compensation for this housekeeping oversight. False advertising during sensitive COVID-19 times when hotel sanitization and cleanliness should be of utmost priority. Stay elsewhere. Also, rude concierge Samantha Sutton berated us when asking to see our date of birth on our ID. (The ID clearly showed date of birth.) After being embarrassed, she did not apologize for her lack of courtesy and began using a fake "nice" tone as if to make up for her nasty attitude. read more

While traveling on Naval orders from Charleston, SC to Groton, CT, I spent one night in Columbia, MD at the DoubleTree Hotel in Columbia. The next morning I walked out to my car parked in the front of the building and found that the tires and rims had been stolen and the passenger side had been keyed. I called local police and went to the front desk to see if there were any cameras. I was told by the woman at the front desk that she saw my car and had in fact taken a picture of it on her own phone but did not contact anyone. She had not called the police nor had she notified her manager. While waiting for police to arrive, the woman at the front desk came from behind the desk to tell me that this sort of crime had occurred three weeks in a row at this specific hotel, yet no additional security was put in place to better prevent these sorts of crimes. She also claimed she had to leave the front desk because there are cameras that would have heard her tell me this information. As I was on orders and had to reach my final destination by the next day, I had to then rent a car and spend a second night at this hotel. I was informed that the hotel was sold out. A few hours later the lady at the front desk was able to find a room that she said was normally $300/night but offered me the manager rate of $111/night. With additional fees that I was not aware of, I was charged $175/night for my second night and offered a free complimentary breakfast for the next morning. My first night was only $111. I am not sure why I had to pay anything for the second night as it was the hotel's fault for not acknowledging this persistent problem and improving security. In addition to paying for repairs for my vehicle, it is not fair or right that I then had to pay for a second night at the hotel and received no remorse or help from hotel employees. I was only ever speaking to a singular woman and it seems management was not informed. If these problems are not addressed, customers will continue to have their vehicles vandalized. read more

The hotel is currently under some light construction as of 16May15 but it was a non factor as the improvements are already standing out. If you see construction warnings don't let that sway you away. I stayed at this particular DoubleTree on a weekend and the stay was great. It is tucked away in a wooded area but still close to many restaurants near the Columbia Mall. The lobby is very spacious which opens out to a larger dining area where you can enjoy your free warm cookie upon check in. Get your cookie. The rooms are very spacious as I opted for a king bed room. The room was very quiet and offered an excellent night of sleep. The only drawback is that parking is limited. read more

On August 15th, 2020, I was the victim of auto theft while parked at the DoubleTree at 5485 Twin Knolls Rd, Columbia, MD. This DoubleTree Hotel has had at least 6 vehicle thefts/vehicle crimes in the previous ~18 months leading up to the incident (see images obtained from public information request to Howard County police). With repeat criminal occurrences, a business is obligated to take reasonable precaution (e.g. post signs warning of criminal activity, add outdoor surveillance, etc.). None of these precautions were taken by the hotel. A simple "At your own risk" sign is not reasonable or adequate crime prevention or warning in these circumstances where the hotel is on notice of repeated property crime and theft to its guests' vehicles. We stayed her 4 days and 3 nights with our small kids and we loved every minute of it. The staff is exceptionally friendly, diverse, and customer service oriented! The room was clean and the hotel was very responsive when we asked them to clean it on our 3rd day, front desk staff was fantastic in every interaction and the people running the breakfast buffet were the stars of the show! (Shoutout to Angela, Irene, and Mary!) The room was spacious and more than enough for the 4 of us, the kids loved the indoor, heated pool (nothing like going swimming in 40 degree weather!) plus it has enough 3ft areas for our little one to have fun without knowing how to swim, the hot tub was also a big hit with our family as it wasn't too hot so even the kids enjoyed it. The fitness center is super small, it has some cardio equipment, a very nice, full set of dumbbells and two benches so it's great for a quick workout if you're on vacation and don't want to lose your fitness progress. This hotel is also wonderfully located, close to the airport, the Columbia Mall, etc. Every time we entered a location on our rental car navigator it came up within 20 minutes of the hotel. They also use digital keys which means you don't have to carry a hotel key card around since you can open your room door, pool, etc. using your smart phone. We would absolutely stay here again. P.S. The warm chocolate chip and walnut cookies we got when we checked in were fantastic! read more

Four nights here and they were almost perfect. The room was quiet and comfortable, though the air conditioning unit was a bit loud. Two queen beds were firm and comfortable. The room had a work desk and mini-fridge in addition to a Keurig machine and a flat screen television. Wifi worked well enough. I did enjoy their breakfast one morning. Nothing spectacular but it was good with bacon and eggs and plenty of bread options. The waitress also mentioned that they would cook eggs to order. I got to sleep in one morning here at the Doubletree and so I made sure to leave the DND on the door. Well, that still didn't stop the housekeeping folks from knocking on the door at 8:30 in the morning. Not right. Other than that, the one morning that I did leave the DND off the door, they did a good job of resetting and cleaning the room. read more

I have to say I am glad that I kept my reservations here after the not so great reviews posted on Yelp. Granted, many of these were before the remodel. The NEWLY RENOVATED Doubletree is pretty awesome. It has a very modern look and fell and all the rooms have the latest and greatest Hilton brand furniture and new flat screen TV's. The staff is very pleasant and accommodating. I thoroughly enjoyed my cooked to order omelet from the restaurant and super comfy bed. This will be my go to hotel next time I come to Columbia. read more

2.5 stars, feeling pretty awesome so I rounded up. I did NOT stay the night, I went here specifically for training, so this review is for the conference room, staff, and the like. Location, off of Twin Knolls Road, small signage not very noticeable IMO, as I went there on a snow day. I loved the decor of the lobby area, I thought it was really contemporary and inviting. I didn't quite get the booths lining the sides of it though. The conference room was large and spacious, my only gripe was that it was an ice chest the first day! We all sat there in our coats during the lecture. They corrected the issue the second day. The only other issue I had was a frequent noise that appeared to sound like someone was flushing the toilet, yea seriously. It was quite off putting. The Doubletree provided food, a continental breakfast, and lunch for both days. They totally out did themselves with the sandwiches, wraps, salads, and pasta salads. Went here during a very humid week and it seems like their HVAC doesn't remove any humidity, because my room was noticeably damp all week. I mentioned it to the operator and they just sent me new sheets (and I was expected to re-make the bed myself). It didn't solve the problem and I ended up feeling sticky any time I lay down to sleep. The "warm cookie" they offered on check-in was warm, but it was also dry and hard. May as well just warm up a box of chips ahoy. Due to weather related power outages in the D.C./ Baltimore area recently, our options were limited when seeking a hotel that could provide a hot shower and bed to sleep in- hence us going going forth, after noting the various previous negative reviews- & venturing to this hotel. I must say this venue is apparently appropriate to host events, such as beauty pageants (one of which was occurring during our stay), but it wildly lacks luster otherwise. While our hotel bathroom was presentable, the remaining "Hhonors" room/ stay experience was highly lacking. The management is unaware of and lacks communication with their subordinates attentiveness, be it their front desk staff, housekeeping, restaurant/ room service, spa/pool maintenance team etc (I won't bore you with the specifics, unless requested...).This disconnect was so wildly apparent and entirely disheartening, you almost couldn't blame any one, aside from management. While the responses received to the multiple issues we encountered were acknowledged, nothing was subsequently handled well, if at all. Although our stay here wasn't for pleasure, but out of "necessity", & we didn't have the highest expectations going in, our experience here has left me compelled to express how disappointed and complexed I am: this establishment overall has the potential to be extremely effective (it's designed well), convenient (great location!) and lucrative (again, excellent location), but painfully it is not achieving its potential for some quite obvious reasons. read more

We have been coming to this hotel a long time. They recently did some renovations in the bar and dining area. Those renovations are absolutely breath taking! It is so modern and contemporary and it looks great. I was a bit unhappy to see our usual bartender. Then I found out that one of the managers has since left. I think that if they have a jazz band to come in and do a few numbers every Friday, they could start getting more business. This is the perfect place though if you want to go somewhere quiet and the crowd is not huge. I always suggest this place to friends because I want to hear our conversation not have to scream my sentence out. read more

This did NOT start well. Doubletree claimed Priceline never notified them of our reservation. When we provided front desk with a copy of Priceline's confirmation email, they told us "you also need a confirmation from Doubletree as well". Say again?? "If" they offered bargain room prices (ours was $157 with tax), well, ok, but...geez... Our attempted check-in (at 1 PM, ok, a bit early, but, it was Saturday and probably their slowest day of the week) was delayed since they don't schedule their cleaners to come to work until noon. The hallways were littered (yes, littered) with room-service rubbish from breakfast (this at 1 PM!), plus piles of bedding; borderline disgusting. There is 'no' food (and I don't count vending machines as having 'food') until 4 PM weekends. It's a several-mile trip to any restaurant from this location, as well. Heck, it's a half mile to the nearest business (a drug store). That said, dinner was terrific (go figure), and, a bargain as well ($40 for two, plus wine and tip...steak, salmon, nicely presented; KUDOS to kitchen staff!) Regrettably, waitstaff seemed to think we came to 'enjoy' their intrusive attempts at conversation (waitstaff is best seen and not heard, IMO). Finally, a tour bus pulled up late Saturday night. As a direct result, the next morning, the dining room was packed nearly to overflowing, actually. The breakfast buffet was a disaster. NO eggs in evidence, but, plenty of fatty bacon, fried potatoes, and pork sausage. Sure, we 'could' have ordered, and...waited... Instead, we quickly packed up and ate in town. We have stayed at this location previously (it 'is' quiet), however, next year, we'll try something different. For this price, we should find a nice comfy BnB. read more

One of my favorite hotels in the whole wide world, after having visited quite a few on my world-wide travels, is right in my hometown of Columbia, Maryland. I'm talking about the Doubletree Hotel, 5485 Twin Knolls Road, Columbia, MD. Right now as I am writing this I am staying here at the Doubletree for an extended stay because my house in Columbia is uninhabitable due to a plumbing disaster. Of course, I am here in a state of great alarm and angst, understandably, due to the hardship. But now, having been at this hotel for about two weeks, my anxiety has been greatly assuaged due to the beauty and classy décor in the seating area, the comfort of the room with sparkly white plush bedding and comforter, and easy-to-program television. But I want to give a special shout-out about the 5485 Restaurant which is housed in said hotel. The food is always tasty, inexpensive as compared to the Restaurant's peers, and served by especially nice and friendly wait staff. For example, for the every morning buffet, offering enough variety for your daily nutritional needs, there are the fabulous gals whom you get to know if you keep going back. In fact, please indulge me as I lapse into a bit of poetry because these women are so wonderful they're actually inspiring. For Wait Staff Gal No 1, let me introduce you to Angela. So aptly named, if there are truly angels amongst us, as many people firmly believe, she is definitely one of them. When you're in the restaurant your comfort is her main concern. She could, probably without the criticism of her bosses, just let you pick and choose from the buffet. But she's always "busy as a bee at the Doubletree" Waiting on you, never resting, always serving you, always making you know she's so happy to be with you. For Wait Staff Gal No. 2, there's Irene. I think of her as "Irene the Serene". And not only for the rhyme, but because if you're anxious for any reason, she'll sense that because she's so marvelously sensitive, and then "the Queen of supreme serenity, Irene the Serene" Will say just the right thing to calm you down while at the same time serving you alongside Angela. In the evening the Wait Staff consists of Maaza. Want to know how to pronounce her name, it rhymes with "plaza". She is very knowledgeable about food and nutrition and has a lot to offer about your choices, for example, if you're not feeling so well she knows which foods are the more bland choices. With karaoke night now and then at the bar room where anybody in the room can join in with the singing and merriment, and with walks around the grounds meticulously landscaped with magnificent trees and flowers in the Spring, and televisions all around the lobby to please everybody's special entertainment desires, there's never a dull moment at the Doubletree Hotel, Columbia, Md. My wife and I have stayed here many times as we have family in the area. Always satisfied with our stay. This last visit I used HH points to upgrade to a suite. We were quite disappointed in the room. It was not a suite. It was a standard King with a kitchenette. Upon checkout the manager, Travis, asked how we enjoyed our stay. I told him of my disappointment with the room. He told me he would look into it. Less than 24 hrs lawyer, points had been put back in my account. Not only the 2000 I used but another 5000. The only reason I stayed here is because it's next door to the office. But, if I had to choose? Never again... The rooms were clean although the maids forgot to clean my coffee maker and refresh the coffee supplies. And the rooms need some refurbishing - they haven't been updated in over 10 years. Don't eat there. The food's not very good and they don't have decent gluten free options. When my friend ordered a burger WITHOUT a bun, because of gluten issues, the waiter brought the burger to her ON a bun. My friend said, "I asked this to be without a bun". The waiter said, "I know, I asked the cook to keep the bun off". Then WHY did he bring the burger out with the bun? Isn't that one of the server's jobs?? Aren't they supposed to check the food against what the customer ordered and, if it's not the right order, ask the cook to fix it? Others in our group ordered at a later time and, after an hour of waiting, we were told the kitchen lost our ticket. Another half hour later, our salads and sandwiches came out. At least they gave us a free round of drinks. The people that work there are nice, but I have a feeling they have some inexperienced servers and kitchen staff.
