Every person who works here is wonderful and deserves more than 5 stars. They've suggested places to tour, how to get there, etc. They all are friendly and kind. But the amenities lack. They're somehow out of restaurant napkins and tissues. So they gave us drink napkins and toilet paper instead. I'm shocked that no one got in their car and went to a supply house or a market or something. It's Monday and they ran out of vegan breakfast sausage on Saturday, so they still don't have any. I know that things aren't immediate, but as part of the Hilton Doubletree network, how come they're running so lean and mean? I've never stayed at a hotel that just ran out of things and don't understand why they have no way to recover from that. As well, we're in a "King Deluxe" room, where the closed window blows in cold air (we showed a front desk team member how we rolled a towel onto the window sill to stop the cold air from going further. He explained that the "old windows" do that.). There are NO drawers except for a small piece of furniture that has 3 two foot wide drawers, and a shelf in the closet and on the open bedside tables. We opted to work out of our suitcases and just not unpack. We had the "Do not disturb" sign on the first day until we went out late afternoon, so our room was never cleaned and my husband took out our trash. The next day no one came so when we saw someone from Housekeeping, we asked if she could ask someone to clean our room because we had wet towels in the bathroom. I don't really understand what is going on, it's almost like Fawlty Towers. As nice as everyone is, I've stayed in nicer places - just about anywhere I've ever stayed. Even Days Inn has supplies. So, if you sneeze or want to wipe your mouth after eating, you better bring your own supplies. read more

The Basil Fawlty of the DoubleTree by Hilton Southampton. In more than 20 years as a Hilton Honors Diamond member, I've never been spoken to in public by a Hilton manager the way I was at this hotel. A simple request after waiting over an hour (after check in time) received the filthiest attitude in response! The individual who identified himself as the hotel manager (Ben English) was smug beyond belief, condescending, sarcastic, and unnecessarily confrontational. It was one of the most astonishing displays of customer service I've experienced from a global hospitality brand. I've since contacted Hilton Corporate directly because this doesn't appear to be an isolated incident. Reading through numerous guest reviews, particularly on @yelp, I found repeated complaints describing the same dismissive attitude and lack of professionalism from this same person. It genuinely leaves me asking: why has this behaviour been allowed to continue? A manager sets the standard for the entire hotel. If multiple guests are reporting the same experience over an extended period, that's no longer a one-off complaint--it's a leadership issue. The irony is that if Basil Fawlty were running a DoubleTree, he'd probably be told to tone it down. This felt less like checking into a Hilton and more like walking onto the set of Fawlty Towers. I have contacted Hilton Corporate to deal with this clown who is dragging their name into the dirt! read more

This is a nice hotel to stay at if you are going on a cruise out of Southampton. It is maybe a 15 minute Uber ride to the cruise port. The hotel was clean and somewhat modern. They had a pretty nice bar. I redeemed points to stay here and I wish the redemption level was the same here as it is in Southampton. This hotel is really great for the amount of points I redeemed. I was BEYOND exhausted when we arrived. So much so that I fell asleep.in the lobby. I never so this. Lol Long flight and really no sleep.the night before. Anyway, I sure wish I remember her name at this point. She was awesome. We arrived early. Like 9am or so. She had us wait a little bit and then let us check in. This was a true blessing. I went straight to sleep. She even asked if I was feeling better when I saw her later on. Unfortunately they did not have any of their famous warm cookies throughout our stay. Anyway, the room was spacious. But the wifi was not good for several hours. A couple guests went to the front desk when I did. Oh well, it was better I unplugged anyhow. read more

Showed up for the night before our cruise and they said they couldn't find our reservation- even though I had the confirmation. Did not provide any help, saying it wasn't their problem - stay away!!! The response to our situation is to blame everyone else - they claim to be waiting to hear from Expedia, but it was their staff who tossed us out like the garbage - no responsibility accepted. Also, if they are going to accept reservations from Expedia, they are responsible to honor them not blame Expedia when they mess up. Don't stay here - ere are many other options in area - avoid Hilton properties- if there's an issue, their customer service response is abysmal! read more

A decent night's sleep in an A-OK Hilton property. I don't have status with Hilton, so I was in a regular room. When I booked it, the only thing they had available was two single beds. I was hoping I might be able to switch to a double when I checked in, but there was some event going on and I was out of luck. The room was fine. Not cramped or tight, there was enough room to get around and the work desk had convenient UK style power sockets. As I've come to expect with these "full-service" hotels, the Internet is not free unless you have some level of elite status. £15. Fortunately, I have my WWAN dongle and a 3G signal. Very little noise in the room from neighbors or from the hallway. The only thing was the buzzing of cars going past on the nearby M3 coming through the window. They have a coffee bar in the lobby and one of the front desk clerks was able to make me a decent Americano when I left the hotel at 6:15 AM. This was too early for breakfast, so you'll have to go with Sami's review on that. (1200) read more

If you can avoid this place, please do. Very disappointed as Diamond Member visiting from the states. Visiting the UK for a week and spending every night at a Hilton property. So it pains me to rate so low. So unfortunate. How they can do better. read more

It's unfair to complain too much about a place I redeemed on short notice using Hilton points, but I was disappointed a couple of times. Asked in my booking if they could organise anything romantic as it was my girlfriend's birthday, but nothing'd been done when we arrived. As a Gold Hilton member, I was meant to get a free room upgrade, but they said they were unable to and gave me a voucher for a free drink instead. When I went to redeem the drink for my girlfriend, the guy behind the bar said that he couldn't do cocktails (which was not stated on the drink voucher, and not the case when I've had a similar thing happen at the Hilton in Manchester...). Other than that, obviously the lack of the room upgrade itself was slightly disappointing, but nothing else to note or much complain about. read more

Hilton in Southampton is a typical, run-of-the-mill Hilton. The rooms were a decent size and you get your bog standard toiletries (Crabtree & Evelyn). We had breakfast in the morning, which again was your standard Hilton fare (breakfast buffet with a range of pastries, cereals and cooked breakfasts). What I like about this Hilton is the fish tank in the lobby - it's really quite bright and is a nice feature. Also, I like the Costa coffee by the main entrance - it's very tempting to get your morning coffee on the run. Everything was fine and I don't really have any faults with the Hilton. read more

Nice hotel, nice people. A little far from restaurants, but the hotel has a good restaurant with great food. Only downside is the hotel has no air conditioning. But, most of the year, you don't need it. We stay every time we book a cruise that leaves from Southampton read more

Agree the hotel is a ways out of town but with a car this is not a problem. But am wondering what we did before GPS. Not sure we could have found it without this. Is more like a big country manor rather than a big city hotel. No flashy glass and chrome, but like the relaxed atmosphere. Only problem was that the fires in the lounge were not working. This would have been nice for our winter visit. read more

It's a bit out of town. You can't walk to anything, but it is not too inconvenient by taxi to the train station and the cruise terminal. Just fifteen or twenty minutes tops as well as pounds to the train and cruise terminal (respectively). The property is quant kind of like a lodge nestled in a very quiet wooded area. I think most of the people staying here two Saturday nights ago were going on the Queen Mary Two like we were. There were some locals there to partake of the restaurant and bar. The wine list at the restaurant was very good. The bar had decent vodka (Belvedere). My chicken Laksa was outstanding. The room was a decent size. The full size tub was a welcome comfort after my train ride from LGW. I liked that you could open the window. In fact I slept with it cracked to get fresh air and it was super quiet. Good, warm and personable service at the front desk and restaurant. I would stay here again if I were taking a cruise out of South Hampton. read more
