It's been over a year, and I've had time to reflect. While hospice care should center on compassion, communication, and trust, our experience fell short in several critical ways. Our family often felt unheard, with key decisions made without fully including all family members with decision making authority. Communication lacked consistency and transparency, and at times we were given information that later proved to be inaccurate. There were also concerns around professionalism. Sensitive information was discussed in ways that felt inappropriate, which further eroded our trust. Additionally, clear family wishes--particularly regarding the timing of certain medications--were not consistently respected, and explanations around those decisions were conflicting. Basic care expectations were not always met. Equipment that was promised was not provided, and safety measures that should have been in place were absent, leading to a preventable fall incident. End-of-life care is one of the most vulnerable experiences a family can go through. It requires honesty, coordination, and deep respect for both the patient and their loved ones. Unfortunately, our experience did not reflect those standards. It is not surprising that Endless Journey's nurses received probation and fines for misconduct in July 2026. I share this out of concern. No family should have to navigate this type of added distress during a time of grief. My Grandma was an amazing woman and I am grateful for the time that I got to spend with her.

On the day my mom passed, it was so comforting that she was there despite my best efforts to get there before my mom took her last breath. She even called me on her cell to let me know my mom was about to pass and I was able to tell her that " I loved her" one final time (despite being only a half a block away). Higher care costs exceeded his financial resources and he needed a placement that could accommodate both Medicaid and memory care at this juncture--they helped us navigate this in exploring ideas outside our scope for nursing care. We received texts, calls, and remarkably quick responses--even on weekends--as they worked to find the right placeMent. Emily, in particular, advocated fiercely and compassionately, making sure our family member was placed somewhere she trusted. She thoughtfully considered the whole picture of his needs. The care, relationships, and sheer humanity of every person we encountered at Haven is unsurpassed. He was always clean, treated with dignity, and genuinely connected with the people who cared for him. The Haven Hospice Team didn't simply provide hospice services; they gave our family safe passage through an incredibly difficult time and remained deeply caring and present through my dad's final days. They were always available and did video for me so I could see her. Kept me informed every step of the way. I ended up moving out of state which was hard to have to leave when she was on hospice but they did video so I could see her and it helped me feel like I was still with her. It was a such a comfort to me. There was a Chaplain that would go and pray with her and pray for me. Thank you for your exceptional genuine care!

They were professional, and very understanding. We contacted them on very short notice, and they were able to provide us with the care we requested within 8 hours!! Amazing. The entire staff understands the stress that their customers are experiencing, and do everything possible to assist. We worked specifically with two wonderful caregivers...Sandy and Shawnta. They were both amazing. They made my Father-in-law feel special in the last few days of his life. They also were so very kind to my Mother-in-law, my wife, my Brother-in-law and to me. They truly understand that much of their care is actually for the rest of the family and not just the patient. Sandy and Shawnta should feel very good about themselves as they provided a service to this family that can't be calculated. Those folks were, and I assume, still are the cream of the crop for care giving. However, this review is about the Independent Living communications! On Saturday August 15, 2020 my air conditioner failed at 8:00 p.m. I called the Concierge. I was expecting it would be Sunday before anyone came to look and/or repair the A/C this this was a weekend and not a normal workday. Within 15 minutes the Concierge had contacted the Director of Environmental Services and informed me the Contractor for A/C would be arriving within the hour. By 9:00 p.m. the Contractor was at my door. At 10:00 p.m or two hours after the first phone call to the Concierge, the A/C was working. On Monday morning I was able to personally thank the Director of Environment Services and passed a well done to the Concierge. This is normal for Environmental Services! Advance the clock until today, August 18 at 3:15 p.m. the A/C failed again. I walked to the Concierge to report the outage and explained what had happened on Saturday night. I did mention the Concierge Saturday night did call the Director of Environment Services. This being a normal work day and during normal work day I did ask him to put in a work order which is normal procedure. At 6:45 p.m. once my unit hit 80 degrees, I walked to the same Concierge and asked what the Director of Environmental Service said. I was told he, the Concierge had not called him since the Director reads all work order prior to leaving. I asked the Concierge if he planned to call the Director. No, he will read the work order. It is now 7:50 p.m. and 81 degrees. It would appear the Concierge was not able to follow up on my request. Very disappointed. This is not normal customer service from the Hillcrest Grand Lodge Independent Living; however is becoming a pattern for this Concierge. I do still think the Grand Lodge is a wonderful place; however, it might be helpful if key meet and greet persons are trained to a "standardization" level.
