Very sad about my first appointment here. I let them know I wanted an exam and cleaning. The exam…read moreconsisted of 4 x rays, no one measures gum depth, touched the teeth or anything, just 4 xrays, and a list of over 2500$ of things I should be doing. The dentist stated she wouldn't do a cleaning because she referred me to a peridontal cleaning . I had explained before making the appointment, I will GET that done but I NEED a regular cleaning. The cleaning was weird... the polish was, a joke, then the dentist came in and water picked and scraped a little, not much. The cavities they are saying I have are actually wanting to remove old fillings and replace them with new ones. The whole experience was distressing, the hygienest was great, kind, and polite. oh.... and the "cure" for TMJ I was suggested was botox at $600 every 6 months... yeah thanks.... I don't have TMJ from grinding my teeth, that a symptom of the TMJ. Overall waste of time, and yet another experience making me want to avoid the entire dental world and just remove my teeth. :(

They did a couple cavity fillings and after i went in for my adjustment i noticed it was still a little off and they got me back in quickly and evened everything out. In 2007, I was assistant director of sales at the Raphael hotel on the Plaza. It was a strange…read moreposition, and every single one of the managers who'd worked there under a family-owned administration for nearly 30 years hated my stinking guts. When I bit down on a piece of metal that had made its way into my "employee lunch," and cracked a molar in half, I took it as a sign of things to come. A couple of weeks later, I was let go and escorted from the building. I didn't mind that part so much. It made me feel like some kind of super-villain. In the end, though, I still had this busted tooth. Over the course of the next couple of years, the tooth would abscess, get infected, swell, etc... As one of the uninsured millions, I did my best to find antibiotics, pain-meds, and the like the only way I knew how. I even lanced the thing a couple of times on my own. When it acted up most recently, I had finally had enough. You can't make money waiting tables when your entire head is throbbing and you want to attack everything with a pulse that manages to hove into your personal space. Fortune smiled upon me, though, as one of my tables during a lunch shift just happened to be a group of dentists. Not only were they a great group of people (service industry approved, that is,) they made conversation with me. When my tooth pain inevitably came up, they dispatched with the embarrassment I felt from being uninsured and poor in about thirty seconds and invited me to have it looked at in their office. The Northland Family Dentistry group operates out of an unassuming office in a strip mall just off North Oak Trafficway. It's an old-fashioned place. No computer screens around the place. No mouth cameras. Just a dentist chair and some confident, friendly, and funny workers who do their job quickly and capably. Within a week of my first visit, my mouth was examined, x-rays were taken, and operated on. The tooth pain is finally gone, and at a price I could afford. I'm a little ashamed I waited so long to get it handled, but like a lot of you, I'd rather deal with the pain than put myself in a dentist's chair. These guys made it really easy on me, and fixed my problems just as they'd promised. I could not have been more satisfied with my experience. I now pass this information on to you so that, you, the poor and pained, can find some relief. Good luck!

I was deceived when I made the appointment with a very friendly receptionist who made my appointment- she stated they would try anything to help my daughter through the process of getting her teeth cleaned. My friend even concurred. Upon arrival, the front office was dismissive and unfriendly. The dental hygienist seemed in a hurry and kept dropping equipment. She seemed frazzled and unorganized. She seemed inconvenience. When my 26 year old special needs daughter kept saying ouch I asked if they could get some numbing meds for her gums. She was being rough with her cleaning. She kept looking at the clock too. The hygienist said sure, but brought the dentist back with her. He looked at her teeth, but since her lower lip was tight he stated we had to stop her cleaning and go somewhere else to do her cleaning. They only cleaned 1/4 of her teeth. They admitted she had decay, but did NOTHING about it!!!! When I am upset and crying all the dentist could do was slam a paper down (like a child) and state he is doing the best he can. The front desk person was rude about it - no empathy AT ALL! When leaving saw the dental hygienist run out of the office. I knew they didn't finish the job because the hygienist didn't want to miss lunch! She kept looking at the clock - never felt more dismissed in my life! Never go here - they suck! Zero stars.

Then I thought I should probably review the place because I am really happy with the work they've done for me. This was my reply to her, plus a bit more... "I do not work at a dental office. I first purchased a groupon to North Oak Family Dental Care for zoom whitening. I hadn't had a checkup in a few years so they asked me to have a checkup done before whitening from there or elsewhere. Having moved from California, I did not have an established dentist in KC, so I went to them for my check up and the zoom whitening and I have really had a great experience there. All the ladies in the office are very personable and friendly. Their only drawback is that their office hours are pretty limited. Mon, Wed & Thurs 8-5 and closed on Tues, Fri, Sat, Sun. They have another office, Westwood Dental, which is open Mon-Thurs 7-5, and Fri 9-1. With that being said, I ended up getting a veneer done by them and while I was waiting the two weeks for my permanent to be made, it popped off twice (very common with the type I was having done). Both times, someone came in outside of business hours to rebond it for me at no extra cost and made feel like it was no big deal they came in on their day off I will definitely be going back to them and I now feel great about my smile!." ...I forgot to mention that I went to a lab in KCK to get the color of my teeth matched to create the permanent veneer. I was told this was the best lab in town. At first I was not sure. You go down to a sketchy looking basement to meet with a technician. The facility looks like a high school chemistry lab from the 80's. The woman recorded about 4 different colors she would use to create my porcelain match. She really did do an amazing job! With such a perfect color match, even I forget that I have a veneer.

If you want ridiculous promo and sales crap foisted on you each time, go to Marx Dental. If you like being billed not once, but twice, go there. If you enjoy being told "you need a filling" when there is a tiny infinitesimal little spot on your tooth that the dentist himself said isn't more than a "spot to keep an eye on", go to Marx Dental. If you don't mind a woman in charge of sales trying to schedule you an appointment for said tooth and then staring at you with a horrified expression when you tell her no and asking, "Don't you care about your teeth?" - go to Marx Dental. And if you enjoy being told, "No, this is the only amount you will have to pay, because we called your insurance" (when they definitely did not), go to Marx Dental. And enjoy that extra bill for another $150 a month later. No thank you. They remind me of mall jewelry stores. Frankly, it's gross and repellent. Not to mention incredibly annoying. It feels like I'm wading through a tunnel of feces just to get basic service.
