Thanks to a referral from our team physician, I contacted Dr. Bill Busch, who immediately understood the urgency of my situation. Despite it being a Saturday, he made time for me on very short notice and provided outstanding care. The entire team was incredibly welcoming, professional, and efficient. My crown was successfully reattached, and I have had no issues whatsoever since the treatment. I am truly grateful for the excellent service, clear communication, and genuine hospitality I experienced. If you are looking for a skilled and caring dental practice in Kansas City, I can highly recommend Dr. Bill and his team. Thank you again for turning an unexpected inconvenience into such a positive experience. Warm greetings from the Netherlands, Leo Mulder

I was extremely pleased that during my new patient exam they Xrayed my entire mouth and found cavities that my previous dentist had missed just recently. They are thorough and double check their work, something I was not used to. I feel much better coming to this practice than the other places I've worked with that seemed to always miss cavities until they needed to become root canals. Expensive and painful. I would recommend this office to anyone needing a second opinion or new dentist.

Backstory: For all my life I had suffered from numerous dentists not being able to numb my teeth adequately before procedures and this always caused me mild to severe pain during fillings. I endured and became accustomed to the pain for over 15 years of procedures and believed that I must have just been an excessively sensitive patient. Then, I was lucky enough to switch to Dr. Garrison and now every single procedure has been completely pain-free for the past 10 years. Perfectly numb, every single time . Even if I will need to move somewhere else in the US, I will literally buy airline tickets just to have the peace of mind that I won't be in pain during dental work. I cannot understate how skilled he is and how great his work has been. I will always come back for as long as he still practices dentistry.

Update: Aspen customer service advised me that charging patients more than the insurance approved…read morepre-estimate is not company policy. I am sharing this in hopes of saving others time, stress, and money. I will admit that I did not behave appropriately during my final interaction with the office. I left upset and called Lacy a vulgar name in front of other patients. That was wrong, and I take responsibility for it. My opinion of how I was treated by her, however, has not changed. My concern is with the billing practices in this office. I previously worked in medical billing in a supervisory role, so I understand insurance contracts, allowable amounts, bundled charges, pre-estimates, and patient responsibility calculations. Several things about this situation raised serious concerns for me. I was told I needed to pay half of a $5,600 treatment plan up front for crown replacement work. That part was not the issue. The issue was that the office was not charging the insurance approved amount. Half down should have been approximately $1,309, yet I was asked to pay more than double that amount before treatment. When I contacted my insurance company, they advised me that billing above contracted allowable amounts may violate provider agreements. They also advised me they would be reviewing their relationship with this office. My insurance company attempted a three way call with the office to clarify the billing, but the office declined because they stated they were no longer willing to treat me. I simply wanted an explanation as to why the office was attempting to charge amounts that did not align with the insurance approved pre-estimate. Contracted insurance rates are not subjective. The office repeatedly stated they had called my insurance company with all procedure codes to provide accurate pricing. However, the insurance representative I spoke with stated there were no notes showing that such a call occurred. They did confirm that on 5/6/2026 coverage was verified, and the pre-estimate from Aspen was received that same day. According to my insurance company, the written pre-estimate overrides verbal benefit quotes. The pre-estimate reflected a patient responsibility of approximately $873 per crown including buildup. The office attempted to charge approximately $1,903 per tooth. The office also collected $236 for items I was later told were "no charge" items and that, to my knowledge, were not used during treatment. Communication with the office manager, Lacy, was extremely difficult. I was repeatedly interrupted and could not get a direct answer as to why the office was not honoring the insurance approved pre-estimate. At one point she also stated they had not yet received the pre-estimate from insurance, despite insurance later confirming otherwise. She repeatedly stated that "this is Aspen's policy," which Aspen customer service later told me was not true. By the end of the interaction, Lacy seemed oddly proud to lose a patient. As I walked out, she had a very smug expression, almost like she had handled this conversation many times before. I was surprised by the lack of professionalism during the financial portion of my experience. I encourage patients to carefully review treatment plans, pre-estimates, EOBs, and itemized charges before agreeing to large upfront payments at this office This says it all https://fox4kc.com/news/problem-solvers/more-patients-come-forward-after-fox4-investigation-into-chain-of-dental-practices/?fbclid=IwZnRzaAR7KSxleHRuA2FlbQIxMQBzcnRjBmFwcF9pZAo2NjI4NTY4Mzc5AAEez9cS4eBlhO8FfvQlob-jmio-7IgcT56kbLtEo7QZpoviOfiCdaTRIeUg5kw_aem_w3E6CsAAPrq4sIRze_BEhQ

It was a strange…read moreposition, and every single one of the managers who'd worked there under a family-owned administration for nearly 30 years hated my stinking guts. When I bit down on a piece of metal that had made its way into my "employee lunch," and cracked a molar in half, I took it as a sign of things to come. A couple of weeks later, I was let go and escorted from the building. I didn't mind that part so much. It made me feel like some kind of super-villain. In the end, though, I still had this busted tooth. Over the course of the next couple of years, the tooth would abscess, get infected, swell, etc... As one of the uninsured millions, I did my best to find antibiotics, pain-meds, and the like the only way I knew how. I even lanced the thing a couple of times on my own. When it acted up most recently, I had finally had enough. You can't make money waiting tables when your entire head is throbbing and you want to attack everything with a pulse that manages to hove into your personal space. Fortune smiled upon me, though, as one of my tables during a lunch shift just happened to be a group of dentists. Not only were they a great group of people (service industry approved, that is,) they made conversation with me. When my tooth pain inevitably came up, they dispatched with the embarrassment I felt from being uninsured and poor in about thirty seconds and invited me to have it looked at in their office. The Northland Family Dentistry group operates out of an unassuming office in a strip mall just off North Oak Trafficway. It's an old-fashioned place. No computer screens around the place. No mouth cameras. Just a dentist chair and some confident, friendly, and funny workers who do their job quickly and capably. Within a week of my first visit, my mouth was examined, x-rays were taken, and operated on. The tooth pain is finally gone, and at a price I could afford. I'm a little ashamed I waited so long to get it handled, but like a lot of you, I'd rather deal with the pain than put myself in a dentist's chair. These guys made it really easy on me, and fixed my problems just as they'd promised. I could not have been more satisfied with my experience. I now pass this information on to you so that, you, the poor and pained, can find some relief. Good luck!
