Custom Newborn Night Care Karina was everything I hoped for in a night nanny, lactation specialist and sleep habits expert. Each baby is different and I would describe her professional service as a custom newborn care. We wanted to hire night help because our family is not near by and we wanted to enjoy this special time with our first. Because of Karina, we were able to enjoy the daytime hours bonding together. She was there the first night we got home from the hospital, helped us figure out what to do with all of the things I'd collected. She would sometimes make suggestions were truly suggestions of new items that might be helpful. It was up to us decide if we wanted to introduce new items into our process. I would do my own deep internet research and found things that worked best for me based on her suggestions. Many of these have become my most favorite items. I didn't know what to expect when it came to nursing, but I knew that I wanted to have the option to nurse and bottle feed. I do a combination of pumping and nursing, depending on the day's activities. But to get to this point was challenging. Our first big decision was to get a frenectomy, which I was skeptical of but I could tell things were not normal during feedings and it hurt to nurse. I talked with Karina about what was happening and she made a recommendation to see a frenectomy specialist. I did deep internet research again and found the specialist she recommended is #1 in the Bay Area. We notice results immediately after the less than 2 min procedure through a more efficient bottle feeding! I told her I was fearful of nursing again and she allowed me to heal and start again when I was ready. She allowed me the space to make my own decision in my own time. Karina noticed signs that our little one might be ready to make good sleep habits. The first night he slept through the night was nerve-wrecking. She continuously checked on him throughout the night, allowing us a semi good night's sleep. We all couldn't sleep that night haha. With my husband and Karina, I felt like I had the best team in place. We were all working together to care for our little one. Things changed all the time and Karina became invaluable to our family to validate what we were seeing. My wife and I hired Karina to help us take care of our newborn, Heidi. It was the best decision we made in preparing for parenthood. We ultimately hired her for 12 weeks (Sunday-Thursday, 9PM-6AM) to help with lactation consultation and overnight eating and sleeping. Heidi is our first child, so while did our best to get ready (read all the books, took classes, etc), we really did not know what to expect. From the initial minutes of Karina's first shift with us, we felt at ease, informed and in control. Karina helped us learn and grow immensely, and we are now happier, more confident parents thanks to her help and guidance. In the first few weeks Karina spent most of her overnight shifts helping my wife with breastfeeding. This help went well beyond making sure the baby latches and gets enough milk -- Karina would wake my wife up when the baby was hungry, she made sure my wife had everything she needed while feeding (tea, water, pillows, snacks, neck support, etc.), she burped the baby after feeding, changed her and safely put to sleep. Having Karina handle this made it so my wife could get more sleep than she would have been able to get if we were on our own. And, it allowed me to get much more sleep at night so I could be more helpful throughout the daytime. After the first few weeks and cluster feeding episodes were over, Karina helped us get onto a more predictable eating and sleeping schedule with Heidi. Heidi was sleeping through the night by Karina's last couple weeks and my wife was feeding/pumping on a very predictable schedule. She helped us learn the differences in Heidi's cries (hunger/discomfort/attention), she taught us how to properly give Heidi a bath, etc. Karina always made sure there was healthy food and drinks available. She made oatmeal every morning and occasionally something else to be sure my wife was eating well. We were lucky with our daughter -- no allergies or aversions -- but Karina is well educated and informed on dietary options. We took a lot of her suggestions on the kinds of foods to avoid just to be safe, and we tried a lot of different foods/ingredients she suggested along the way for milk production, digestive health, etc. She always is reading new articles and studies and often forwarded them along for us to read. We were struggling--8-10 times awake at night and losing our minds. We weren't sure what to do after reading books and talking to other parents. Finally we started working with Karina. With a background as a pediatric nurse and many years of experience, Karina is very knowledgeable on best practices for taking care of newborns and infants. During the time she was with us she was very proactive about sharing recommendations where the baby's safety was first and to help the baby meet developmental milestones (feeding frequency and volumes, sleeping through the night e.g.), recommendations spanning all interactions with the baby, to setting up the environment where the baby was taken care of, to researching products that fit our daughter's preferences and helped her developmental stage. We were only able to book her for several nights a week as her schedule was already full when we contacted her, but she coordinated with the other night nanny perfectly and ensured there was consistency in care and best practices across the board. She also helped put together a checklist of best practices for taking care of Elisa which we used with our day nanny. Karina recommended a wonderful app for tracking our daughter's progress night and day, she would check on Elisa's ongoing progress during the day, and would share recommendations that helped with Elisa's care during the day. She was consistently on time and treated our daughter with a lot of love, and having her with us during Elisa's first months gave us 100% peace of mind that our daughter was getting the very best care. In addition, thanks to Karina's sleep training, Elisa started sleeping through the night in 10 weeks.
