Gladys and Raven, two of your employees, are always incredibly informative and helpful when it comes to anything baby-related. We purchase all of our baby clothes and feeding supplies from your store. Additionally, your store is the only place around to get a hospital-grade breast pump. They even made sure to get me one on the 4th of July, when everyone else was closed and my daughter was in dire need. It's truly a hidden gem here in Menlo Park!

It wasn't clear to me from the website or Yelp reviews what this place was, but I saw it had open…read morehours, and I had questions about pumping (determining flange sizing), and an appointment nearby, so I decided to drop in and see if they could help. From what I can tell from my conversation with them and the interactions with other folks who came in the shop at the same time as me, this is primarily a breast pump rental place that also offers some classes, and lets you buy parts for the pumps they rent. It's not a general information center, which it kind of seemed like it was from the website and Yelp reviews. Don't come here if that's what you're looking for. I came in, and explained my concern about average flange sizes not fitting me, and they told me not to worry about it until I have birth, because I'd know what flange size to get then (because I would be pumping then). I explained that I wanted to figure this out beforehand, because it'll affect what pump I can get, and I wanted to see if I can get a Spectra. From what I can tell, this is a Medela shop. Because that's all that's on the walls, and once they found out that my work had a Medela pump, they insisted that I should also get a Medela pump, because they have flanges that work with everything, and I wouldn't have to get a second set for work (I already weighed the pros and cons, and I'm happy having a second set for work, but this didn't appear to phase them). They also said that I couldn't possibly know my flange size before I start pumping, and I shouldn't pump until after the baby is born. They didn't want to sell me flanges if I didn't know what size I was. Which was fine, I didn't want to buy flanges, I just wanted to find out what size flange I am. But they don't handle figuring out sizing. Afaict, you have to know your size before you come in here. My insurance covers a pump for me to own, but it can take a while to arrive, so I want to make sure I know my size before I order. I think that this is primarily a hospital-grade pump rental place, so it makes sense that they'd recommend I wait until after the baby is born, because then I can just rent from them. But that's not what I want to do. I've rated four stars because it was nice that the salewoman was willing to field my questions, though her advice ended up being "get a Medela pump, and/or take one of our breast pumping 101 classes, inconveniently scheduled in the middle of the week in the middle of the workday, less than perfect for working mothers." Minus one star because it wasn't really clear from their website or any other literature I found that this wasn't a "Walk-in community resources on pumping/breastfeeding " place. TBH, I'm not sure such a place exists, which is sad :/

Sheridan has the heart of a teacher and explains things in a way that makes sense. Additionally, she has a huge heart and loads of empathy. I remember the first time I called her was in the evening after I had been discharged from the hospital from giving birth to my first son. My milk had come in and I was painfully engorged but unable to get my son to latch. She returned my call right away, calmed me down and set up an appointment to see me the next morning on short notice. It was such a relief. I call Sheridan my fairy godmother of breast feeding. If you are waiting for your milk to come in, are worried about your supply, or are keeping an eye on your baby's weight, see Sheridan! A friend recommended taking a breastfeeding class while I was pregnant, and I took Sheridan's class at Women's Care Medical Group. I hadn't realized that I had no idea how nursing worked and what was involved from latching, to pumping equipment, to balms and butters. Her class was super informative and made me feel confident about nursing. Of course, I didn't think I was going to have any issues (just like I thought everything was going to go according to my birth plan!) After our son was born, he lost quite a bit of weight and my milk was late coming in. We were advised to supplement with formula and see a lactation consultant right away. I called Sheridan, but unfortunately she was out of town that weekend and we ended up making an appointment with someone else. We ended up seeing two other lactation consultants, who were great at showing us how to get a good latch and how to pump 8x a day to increase supply, but were not super helpful beyond that. Two and a half months later, at the end of my rope with pumping and ready to give up on nursing altogether, I called Sheridan. She came over the next morning, on Christmas Eve day no less, and within minutes completely put me at ease. She is so good with babies, and with stressed out mamas! She gave me a plan to actually stop pumping and keep nursing. She even let me borrow her scale for a week so I could weigh my baby and make sure he was gaining at a good rate. The follow up care she gives is worth the consultation fee alone. She followed up with us to check in and see how we were doing pretty often. She was totally there for me when I would get stressed out that he wasn't gaining enough weight, talk me through it, and help me troubleshoot where we could make some tweaks if needed. Sheridan is not only an amazing lactation consultant, but she is also definitely someone you want in your support network. She was really there for us when we needed her. Long story short, my son is almost eight months and we're still going strong! I am so proud of both of us for sticking it out, and we owe so much to Sheridan's expert guidance and care. I really don't think we could have done it without her. If you need to see a lactation consultant, I wouldn't look any further. She's the best!

With my firstborn, I lived in fear for the first month that she wasn't getting enough milk. Maggie helped me measure my current transfer, improve my technique, and understand the bigger picture of my baby's development. And my baby's weight corrected exactly as Maggie predicted! Every visit with Maggie was immensely helpful, regardless if there was a specific problem or a checkin, because she uniquely helped me one connect the dots between my baby's birth, status updates from pediatrician visits, and the round-the-clock grind of newborn feeding. Maggie was such an indispensable part of that experience that I reached out to her again during my second pregnancy. This time, she helped me troubleshoot my second baby's lower appetite and different positioning issues, and reassured me that breastfeeding was working even when my baby simply chose to eat less. Seven months postpartum, her read on the situation has proven completely accurate. Maggie combines deep expertise with a mother's empathy (something well intentioned pediatricians can't always offer!) plus a real understanding of what breastfeeding can and can't control. TLDR: Liat is incredible. If there's one thing I would recommend to help you through your labor,…read moreit's having her by your side. She was the best decision we could have made. My husband and I went back and forth for months about whether we wanted to include a doula in our birth experience. After a lot of discussion, we decided to hire one for two reasons: first, we wanted someone who could help us advocate for ourselves in the hospital so we could stay as close to our birth plan as possible. Second, we wanted someone who could physically support me throughout labor. Liat is truly one of the most incredible human beings I've ever met. She became such an essential part of my birth experience that, looking back, I genuinely don't think I could have done it without her. To make a very long story short, I chose to be induced at 41 weeks after a lot of pressure and fear mongering from my doctors due to elevated amniotic fluid levels. I labored at the hospital until my contractions reached a certain intensity, and then Liat joined us. The moment she arrived, she jumped right in--rubbing my back, talking me through each contraction, and bringing such a calming presence into the room. For the next seven hours, she coached both my husband and me through contractions that were every 2-3 minutes apart. She constantly adjusted my laboring positions to help my baby descend and was incredibly attentive to the fetal monitor. Anytime my baby's heart rate dipped during a contraction, she immediately repositioned me to help him tolerate labor better. Those seven hours somehow flew by. I labored on the birth ball, in the bed, in the bathroom, and even did lunges at one point! Liat was always thinking one step ahead, using every tool and technique she had to help labor progress naturally. Eventually, I reached a point where I decided to get an epidural. I was exhausted, in pain, and my baby was having a harder time tolerating the contractions, with his heart rate decelerating during each one. After the epidural, my labor was paused to help baby, and I was able to rest for about an hour. When I woke up, the nurses wanted to talk about interventions (even the possibility of a C-section) because my labor "wasn't progressing"--despite the fact that they had just given me medication to stop my contractions. Liat immediately stepped in and advocated for us. She calmly explained that labor couldn't progress without contractions and suggested restarting the Pitocin, giving it time to work, and then reassessing before making any decisions. Sure enough, labor picked back up beautifully. A few hours later, I was fully dilated and effaced, but my baby's station was still a little high. Liat spent what felt like hours gently rocking my hips and helping my baby naturally move farther down into my pelvis until it was finally time to push. She stayed by my side every step of the way until our son was born later that afternoon. If you're on the fence about hiring a doula, I cannot recommend Liat enough. She advocated for me every step of the way, helped me navigate unexpected twists in my labor, and supported both me and my husband physically and emotionally throughout the entire experience. Her knowledge, calm confidence, and compassion made all the difference. A few weeks after our son was born, Liat came to visit us at home, and it honestly felt like having family over. Liat, we are endlessly grateful for everything you did to help bring our son safely into this world. We love you, and we can't wait to have you by our side again when it's time to welcome our next baby. Love, The Zimmerman Family

I had the most wonderfully redemptive unmedicated VBAC a few weeks ago, and it is difficult to…read moreoverstate how critical of a role Liat played in making that happen. My first birth had gone much differently than I had hoped (preterm labor that led to immediate C-section due to breech positioning). I had come to terms with that experience, but I was surprised to find in my second pregnancy that it would be difficult to escape those "labels" from my first pregnancy, making it harder to be given a fair shot at having a vaginal birth. Thankfully, I found Liat whose passion for VBACs is infectious and whose no-nonsense approach is grounding. In our conversations before the birth, my husband and I both appreciated the balance of her approach - she strongly believes in the benefits of physiologic birth, but she also recognizes there is a time and place for medical intervention. My primary hope for this birth was that I wouldn't undergo any interventions that I wasn't convinced I needed, and she was a trustworthy sounding board throughout the entire pregnancy and delivery to ensure that was the case. This time around, my baby decided to stay inside long past the due date, so I agreed with my provider that it would be a good idea to induce. This was pretty disappointing for me, but Liat was wonderful at helping me stay in a good headspace in those final days, checking in frequently via texts and calls. When it came time for delivery, she was every bit as exceptional as all her other reviews describe. When she arrived at the hospital, she took one look at me and knew exactly how to change my environment to help me relax. Sure enough, labor accelerated rapidly after she arrived. She massaged my back through every single contraction. She knew exactly what to say to keep my mind present and focused. When she was talking me through my contractions, they were noticeably more efficient. At one point, I almost wanted to give up and she knew exactly how to keep me going. And sooner than I could have dared hope, my baby arrived. I'm pretty sure I professed my love for Liat minutes after giving birth :) And just as she had been for the entire pregnancy and labor, she was a constant comfort and encouragement to us in the minutes, days, and weeks after the delivery as well. Liat takes absolutely no BS, but is also the warmest and most compassionate woman you've ever met. She's exactly who you want at your birth. I know I want her at my next one!
