I was referred to him back in 2015 by my amazing chiropractor, Dr. Randy James. At the time, I had been living with constant pain behind my right ear--24/7--for over 10 years. My regular doctor had tried everything without success. That's when I discovered neuromuscular dentistry, and it completely changed my life. It turned out the root of my issue was the alignment of my teeth. Over several years, Dr. James worked to align my neck properly on my spine, while Dr. Caulfield used a specialized orthotic appliance to bring my teeth into the correct position. It was a delicate balance--any misalignment in either area would throw the other off. But eventually, through this combined approach, I became completely pain-free. Now, we've entered the next phase: restoring my teeth to their ideal alignment. Dr. Caulfield has been amazing through this process. I'll come in and say something like, "This one tooth is hurting," and he'll immediately explain how it connects to a specific muscle or alignment issue. Then he'll make a small adjustment, and just like that--problem solved. I would never go to another dentist. When I first started seeing Dr. Caulfield, I drove an hour each way to see him. Now that I've retired and moved farther away, I travel 2.5 hours one way for my appointments. Thankfully, most visits are just for cleanings now. They told me I had to get a deep cleaning , cleaned half of my teeth and charged me that much only for the nitrous oxide. The person at the front desk gave me the charges to sign for while the mask on my face. I though it was $210 for the whole mouth cleaning, not for half of the cleaning! I gave them one star review because the charges were never explained to me. I had an appointment the next week for the rest of my cleaning. I confirmed the second appointment for a Monday the Saturday prior. Then, someone from their office called me on the morning of my appointment to tell me the office had cancelled my appointment because of the review I posted that the bill was not explained to me. I thought the total of the nitrous oxide was $210, not $210 each time. I have to say that the front desk agent was irritated or not feeling well when I arrived with her face in her hands. We met at a continuing ed course in Southern California (yes, those thrilling weekend getaways where we learn about root canals and try to stay awake after lunch). For a year, we treated a guy in his 30s who'd lost more than a few teeth. And during that time, I realized something: Scott is that guy. The one who's calm under pressure, insanely smart, and actually listens--to both patients and colleagues. He's the kind of dentist who somehow explains complex stuff without sounding like a robot or a YouTube tutorial. Oh--and he used to teach at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine. I'm not saying the course instructor was bad, but let's just say Scott was the one dropping the real gems. Look, Scott's not the bargain-bin option. But this office is very gentle and yet effective. The X-rays needed are done right in the chair, no stomping down the hall to a cold X-ray room. The dental technician explains everything when cleaning. Dr. S even got my son to answer his questions and chat a bit, which is near impossible to do. I also found Dr. S to be very thorough and upfront. We went over the pros and cons of clear tray braces, issues with teens going through braces, and the probability of the braces working to correct teeth alignment issues.
