It's always fun to visit a new antique mall, and this is a great one! It's off of the main drag in…read moreBerlin and has convenient parking. It's bigger than it looks inside and offers a wide selection of mostly small collectible, vintage, and antique items including lots of primitive pieces. The biggest surprise was the vendor selling nice quality unfinished wood for crafting handmade items at very good prices. Checkout was friendly, and the workers seem to enjoy being there and seeing various treasures find new homes.

A friend recommended I check out Rogers Flea Market so I figured I would give it a try. Located…read moreabout 1/2 hour south of Youngstown in Rogers, Ohio the flea market is only open on Fridays. I managed to arrive at about 8am, 1/2 hour after the opening. There is extensive parking lots all around the market, I managed to find a spot up front just inside the fence. The day was a bit hazy from Canadian wildfire smoke so it seemed like quite a few vendors decided not to show up, many customers also seemed to have decided to have passed on attending. The flea market is huge, there are lots of open air vendor spots, a couple of covered pavilions and quite a few enclosed buildings. At first I was quite disappointed with the product selection since most of the vendors who set up near the front of the market are selling cheap new products the kinds of things you can find anywhere. I was much more interested when I found the back rows where there were more vintage items and antiques along with a wide variety of almost anything you could want. I check out all of the vendors who were there that day. I did find some items that interested me, mainly wood carvings and related items. Prices were OK, not sensational, but I also didn't find anything that I wanted enough to negotiate to see if I could get a lower price. I did end up buying a cinnamon roll from the Amish bakery in one of the buildings, I also bought some candy and trail mix from the discount candy store in the same building. Overall Rogers Flea Market was not bad, but not worth the drive from Cleveland. Some of that was probably due to it being an off day for vendors and part of it was that I have so much stuff I am mostly looking for indigenous wood masks and I just didn't find any on this trip. I did see plenty of people who had found plenty of things to buy, so your experience could vary. My recommendation would be worth a stop if you are in the area on a Friday, but not really worth a special trip.

When you enter, you have to pay $1 to park, so have cash ready if you want to visit. There are parking spaces all around the building and also a huge upper lot. When we were there, we were able to snag a space in front of the building, but I imagine in the summer or busier season it is probably pretty tough to park. They do apparently operate a shuttle from the upper lot to the main building when people do have to park farther away. It was an interesting and almost strange mix of vendors. I suppose that is why they rebranded from flea market to marketplace. There were many Amish and locally made food and houseware items. There were also a lot of craft type vendors (signs, crochet items, florals, wooden items). Mixed in were things like collectibles, sports memorabilia and a tee shirt place (where they could imprint one of their existing designs if you didn't see the size/color that you wanted). There were several food vendors (jerky, nuts, fudge). In the front (in a separate building) is Winetagous. It is a fun addition to the space with a great selection of wine and beer. When you first arrive, it is a bit overwhelming with the huge amount of entrances and sheer amount of vendors, but the facility is easy to navigate and the building is clean and well kept. There are tons of great places to shop in this area, but if you are looking for a one stop shop of sorts to see a wide variety of vendors (and cap off the visit with an adult beverage) this is a fun place to stop.

I dropped my star rating because they were selling puppies inside and Amish country in Ohio is known for having puppy mills. Do your research before you buy an animal at a place like this. It is not really a flea market because everything sold is brand new. It's worth checking out if you are in the area. It can get crowded. Some of the people running the booths are nicer than others. Bring cash because not everyone accepts credit.

Last weekend we took a Saturday morning trip to the Hartville Marketplace & Flea Market, and it…read moreturned out to be such a fun outing! When you first pull in, you're greeted by the huge marketplace sign, and right on the corner is the garden center--complete with the famous Bigfoot that everyone seems to stop and pose with. I was surprised to learn that vendors can rent a 10x10 outdoor space for just $22 a day. The catch is you reserve the same day each week for four weeks in advance, since the flea market is only open four days a week. $27.00 under the pavilion but there's a waiting list. Before we started shopping, we stopped at Sarah's Grill for lunch. Their burgers were delicious--fresh tomato, crisp lettuce, sweet onion... definitely worth the stop! Then came my favorite find of the day... strawberries! They were advertised at $5 a flat. When I picked one up, I noticed a few moldy berries underneath. The vendor immediately smiled and offered them to me for $4 a flat instead. Sold! I brought home two flats, which worked out to about 16 quarts of strawberries. Of course, I couldn't leave without grabbing a bag of fresh kettle corn--that's become one of my favorite flea market traditions! Like any flea market, there was a little bit of everything--the good, the bad, and the ugly. Some booths looked freshly stocked, while others looked like they hadn't changed in weeks. But that's part of the adventure. You never know what treasure you'll stumble across. When we got home, I immediately flash-froze most of the strawberries, and the rest became homemade freezer jam. All in all, it was a wonderful way to spend a Saturday morning--good food, great bargains, and a freezer full of summer to enjoy later. Have you ever been to the Hartville Marketplace?
