Been here twice. It's a great time. Yes, the view is obstructed, but we always got our tickets with a groupon and knew that. I would say get there early (about an hour early) and you can get one of the booths near the left side of the roof which give you the best view. Sometimes, those booths are reserved though. The food is good. I've had the Italian beef, chicken sandwich, sausage, burger and had 8 beers. (Yeah I make sure I come with an appetite). There isn't really a line except before the game. You're allowed to get two items at a time. They stop serving food around the 7th inning. They give icees out near the end of the game. Between innings they play music on the speakers, theres also a raised section that cost a little more but it's supposed to be a better view. I haven't been up there though. There's also a section in the back with tvs and couches. Bottom line: If you come for baseball, you may get mad. If you come with a good group of friends you'll have a blast. I think with the groupon deal, it's one of the best food/drink deals in Chicago. Even without the groupon, you can easily get your money's worth when you consider how much a ticket is ($45-350) inside the stadium and a beer ($10) and a food item ($10) in Wrigley. It's def a good experience. Definitely do a rooftop even if it's not this one. read more

So the view is completely shot now :( I know this isn't their fault and now that the Rickett Family owns it, they probably don't care, but it is something they should definitely disclose prior to ticket purchase. The reason for the knock off in stars, is because with the limited seating they do have on the rooftop and now even more limited because of the view, they shouldn't reserve all the seating. Lots of people were forced to watch the game inside, simply because there was no where else too go. The who reason you go to one of these rooftops is to enjoy the rooftop!!! Went with a friend to my first Cubs rooftop game. They had a nice selection of food. I had the brat, which was my favorite, as well as a cheeseburger, hot dog and Italian beef. Can you say pigging out! They also had a nice selection of beer, including Fat Tire and Blue Moon. There was a long line for food right about the time the game started but earlier and later the line was reasonable. The beer line moved quickly for most of the game. I expected the view of the field to be more blocked. Overall, I was pleased with my first rooftop experience. read more

Thanks to a coupon promotion, I was able to snag some cheap rooftop seats and get a chance to see what all the hubbub was all about. I was a bit worried since I got to the gate and there was a line that was stretching too far even though it was an hour before the game. Someone let me know that I was in the line for Skybox on Sheffield and was relieved when I found myself in a much shorter line and quickly up the steps to the rooftop. Some rooftops, if you don't get there in time, chances are you'll be stuck standing all game or watching the game on TV from the second floor. Luckily, I got in line early enough to skip losing out on the game of musical chairs. Seating options included bleacher style risers, a few couches, and some metal patio setup but they were all taken save the risers. The risers weren't bad considering the heat and the food and drink flowed even before the game started. The lines for food were longer than the line for drinks which didn't make much sense, but the lines moved along fairly quickly. Food selections included burgers, chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, brats, chicken sandwiches and chips. The burgers were grilled by the dozen without much attention as they were all frozen and there was plenty of food to load up on before the game began. Beverages included Anheuser-Busch products, Miller offerings, Corona, Heinken, and wines. There was apparently dessert on the second floor but I was too busy hanging out on the top where the real fun was. Sitting in Wrigley, it would always seem that the view from the rooftops would kind of suck given the distance and extra street everything was behind. Surprisingly, I found the view quite acceptable because even though everything was so much farther away, the height of the seats made up for the distance, you could still see almost everything going on in the stadium. All in all not a bad value proposition and a way better financial deal than one you'd get from the stadium across the street depending on how much you ate or drank. With rooftop seating offering an acceptable vantage point, it made the unlimited food and drink more of a bonus than the main draw, however I can easily see why other people might have it the other way around. read more

It's probably more of a 3.5, but I am feeling generous today. I consider myself somewhat of a rooftop connoisseur...well that might be a stretch, but I have been to a lot of them for work and such....this one has a nice set up. Pluses: - I like that it is a double lot, the singles are wayyy to narrow. - I like the lounge furniture they have to sit in besides just the bleachers - I like that they serve Summer Shandy - Servers and people working there were nice. - Lots of different seating options Minuses: - Bathrooms are too small, which equals a longer wait. - The lower floor (indoors) needs some love, it just looks a little run down, which makes me not want to hang out there. - They stop serving in the 7th, I swear all rooftops do not do this....maybe that isn't the case, but what the heck? (Out tickets said, "thoughout the game" which to me means the entire game) Overall the food was good, what I expect from a rooftop. The atmosphere was fun, they have TVs around in case you don't have a good view. Also, the 2 rooftops to either side had lines about 100 people long and this one was like 20. Now either they do a good job of getting people in or they don't oversell it as much. We had great seats at this one, so we were lucky, we got there early. To people saying they can't see the game...don't go to a rooftop! Buy an actual ticket to the stadium. Rooftops are for the experience, not for watching every play of the game, come on now...this rooftop is probably my 2nd favorite or 3rd. So, I give it 4 stars, or 3.5 technically...there are much worse rooftops out there! This one is a good bet I would say! read more

This review was going to be 4 stars until we met Jim (if that is really his name), the security guard at "Down the Line". I understand that every business needs a "Strong Force" but I believe in customer service and I also believe that management may need to send Jim to some training on how to be sensitive to customers. Also we attended the May 9, 2012, Cubs vs Braves game at 1:20pm. We first met Jim at 12:18pm and he informed us we would not be entering the building for another 10 minutes. Okay fine ...I do not make the rules but it clearly stated that this venue would open 60 minutes prior to game time. So if I pulled out my calculator then the doors should be opening at 12:20pm for a 1:20pm game. We were first in line, so I did not care to make a big deal about it. In fact, I did not even know Jim's name at this point. I will jump ahead to 3:30pm...the Cubs win over the Atlanta Braves 1-0...everyone is happy. Jim who I haven't seen for 3 hours tells us we have to leave. I look at Jim and say, "According to the website we are allowed to remain at the venue for 30 minutes after the final out." Jim looks at me and ignores my comment and walks away. At that point I knew Jim was not my friend. Also, I must point out that I never got disrespectful with Jim...I just clearly nicely asked him questions and he refused to answer me back. There were several other people on the roof still, so I figured I would just enjoy the view of the park and the warm sun. I was a little mad that Jim did not acknowledge my statement about it being 30 minutes prior to the final out. The only reason I point this out is because prior to purchasing the tickets I had to agree to all of the terms of "Down the Line" which included such things as if it was rained out I would not get my money back. The one thing in the contract I agreed to was that I had to leave "Down the Line" 30 minutes after the final out. I am fine with that but does Jim know what the legal contract says? Honestly I do not think so!!! Jim stayed within eye shot of me and at 3:48pm he came back up to us and said, "Okay we are closed you have to leave!" Now I was a little mad that Jim never responded to my first comment about it being 30 minutes prior to the final out and I asked him again. He said, "You still have to leave the building!" I said, "Jim I am fine with that but it does not take me 12 minutes to walk down the stairs!" He said, "Well you have to get off of the roof!" I asked him about the 30 minutes and he informed me that he was a cop and he was going to show me his badge. I said, "Please show me your badge!" Of course that did not happen. I am sure that the Chicago Police would love to know that Jim is impersonating a police officer! So we took it to the 3rd floor...we hit the bathroom and Jim was staring at us the whole time. We walked down the stairs and were at the bottom of the stairs at 3:56pm...still 4 minutes before we had to leave. Jim came up behind me and said, "You can't take your beer with you!" I said, "Fine I will finish it!" And as I was drinking my beer...Jim grabbed my glass and crushed it in my face! Honestly I should have called the police at that point and pressed charges. Jim is a jerk and he ruins this place. I understand that someone has to be the "Bad Security Guy" but Jim took it too far. The rooftop was empty. In fact, they probably only had 30 people up here. Yes it was not a good day for this business because they were not even close to capacity. I just do not like it when an employee takes it above the law and I was only following the rules I agreed to when I purchase the tickets . I hope management reads this and understands that Jim was not a nice guy or a good representative for this business. We also met the manager, Todd. He was such a nice guy. He went above and beyond to make our Cubs game an amazing experience. Jim did not follow the rules that I agreed to on the "Down the Line" website and I have a problem with that. I hope that management understands this is not acceptable. I agreed to everything on the contract but when I questioned my rights to Jim...he ignored me. Like many others who have posted (those who aren't obviously employees or relatives of those employed) Down the Line Rooftop is a scam marketed as a great deal. All you can eat food and drink, while watching the Cubbies try to break their unlucky streak, who could resist. We attended a Cubs game earlier this year under the pretense that we would actually be watching a game. What we actually watched was the back of a billboard and the sweaty backs of the dudes blocking our view the last 4 innings of the game. Why didn't you move to a better spot, you ask. Because Down the Line oversells their terrible deals, making for an overcrowded experience. There are a few seats and tables available, but the majority of those are reserved (for an added fee, of course). Food is fine, but you can only get one item at a time. Drinks are warm. Lines are long. Bathroom is terrible. Customer service is the worst aspect of this business. I called to ask for a refund for a future event and the manager I spoke to said, "we never advertised on our Groupon that customers would actually be able to see anything. The price you're paying is for the food and drink and for the experience." Call me crazy, but when a Groupon is purchased for a concert or a Cubs game, the majority of the experience is SEEING the event, not eating sub par food and drinking warm beers. For those considering a Groupon to this place, save your money and go to Wrigley. They have the same quality food and beers for comparable prices, but you actually get to see the game that you paid for. Down the Line should be renamed Down the Toilet because you're pissing your money away by going here. /end rant read more

This was my first rooftop experience and there's ups and downs mostly downs. The place was lively, great music, young people good beer selection and good food. The view as you might have heard sucks. Your pretty much can see the batter and visiting bullpen. The tvs are 30 secs delayed so if your a really watching the game your gonna b confused. This is a great spot to hangout get drunk for social cubs fans, but real cubs fans like me will pass. Go to another rooftop! read more

Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. The website description and pictures were very misleading. We understood that the view would be limited due to scoreboard but didn't realize how bad and once we got there was even more restrictions where you could sit. It cost even more money to sit on areas of the roof. Food was "ok" at best. I would not spend the time or money in the future here. read more

After reading some not so positive reviews, I wanted to post about my experience. My wife and I attended a Cubs game on 9/7/2014 and chose Down the Line due to its price and Groupon offer. We had a great time! The staff was nice and accommodating, the view awesome, the food great, and we got our money's worth out of the alcohol alone. I've only been to two different rooftops and this is my favorite by far. I just recently went to Skybox on Sheffield, right next door, for the crosstown and there is one big difference. The seating at Down the Line rooftop is a MILLION times better. DTL has a huge patio with tables, seats, sofa area, and bleacher seats. This is so nice because people come and go and can easily make room on the bleachers. But at Skybox they only have individual seats that get claimed 2 hours before the game! Unless you get to skybox ridiculously early you'll be standing the whole time. DTL has great food, seating, and I also really liked that they have so many tv's even outside. Very easy to catch the score and not miss a minute of the action. Absolutely no complaints about DTL can't wait to go back there. I don't even want to try any other rooftops I've decided this is my go to from now on :) Thanks Down The Line! read more

I went to this rooftop before the Air and Water Show. It was nice to see the Blue Angels fly around Wrigley for their practice. We got there like 15 mins early and it was packed already! all the lounge seating was all reserved. We got lucky and found seats behind the lounge chairs. The lines weren't too long when I would go to get a refill for beer or food. Maybe because we went to a Thursday morning game. The food wasn't bad either and it was very fast service. The view was very disappointing with the obstructed view, but we still had fun. I would suggest getting there super early at least like 30-40 mins to get good seating if you didn't reserve. read more

Great view, awesome crowd, mediocre food and ok beer selection.. Get there early to save a spot to sit near the railing in the front of the roof otherwise you will get stuck sitting on the metal bleachers instead of cushioned chairs. Awesome view of all the action no matter where you are sitting.. they have flat screens throughout the roof and the lower level with a bar. Small bathrooms. Not overcrowded like the one next door.. This place is in it to provide the cheapest experience at the highest price. They pack in as many people as possible (huge fire code violation), so if you're not one of the first to arrive you won't be sitting anywhere, unless you pay for one of the twelve premium seating areas. Food is marginal compared to Goose island next door which has more seats better food and is much nicer. All beer is in cans so there is no draft, no dessert, and no shade. Avoid this place unless you want to have an expensive burger in a standing room only. Their "bouncers" are jerks. read more

Alex at DTL was awesome to my friend and I! When we had a glitch with our groupon tickets. She was accessible and let me use my groupon for a different, more expensive game at no additional cost! Alex and her staff were tending to guests non stop during the game and everyone seemed to be having a great time. It's unfortunate that the jumbotron blocks a lot of the rooftop's view but fortunately there's another massive screen in the outfield which allows you to see replays! Despite having a somewhat blocked view, you can see the majority of the game. I didn't have VIP tickets but if you get there early you can snag a high top table which helps a lot with the view. A lot of people have given DTL bad reviews but the jumbotron is out of their control and ultimately, all you can eat and drink for a cubs game at the price of 70 bucks is pretty great. If you like to have fun and enjoy the company you're surrounded with, this is a great deal. If you're picky about your seats, just buy tickets on the baseline and pay 8 bucks for a tall boy in the stadium ;) I had a blast! Staff was nice and food and drinks were good. Go Cubs! read more

Had the opportunity to see a cubs game here. Certainly a rooftop is not the place to go to really feel like you are at the game as it is pretty far away. They had the game on the TV but were using AM720 as the announcing so they were not together which was a bit odd. Food was above average but you had to know about the cold salads to get them. Other than that there were no food complaints, other than I would have been nice to have a dessert or something available. Beer and wine and drink selection was fine. read more

Disappointing - especially on opening day. Music blaring through the Ernie Banks tribute and starting line up. It was only turned off when several people complained. Food was sub par - burger was uncomfortably pink. They limit the amount of food you can take (2 items at a time)... Listen I've sat rooftops many times (never here). Most people load up a plate to share with friends. You'd like dessert after your uncooked burger? You have to wait till the 8th inning for a cookie... And you get one. Just ridiculous restrictions on an "all inclusive" rooftop. We had 12 people in our group - no one was impressed. Definitely wouldn't sit here again - the neighboring rooftops are much better. Most of the staff here was very good. That said, the GM(redhaired guy if the owner is reading his) was a complete ass and corrupt too. Seats were given out by him based on how much money you slipped in his pocket. I saw this happen 3 times in 20 minutes. He even threatened to have the police remove my group from the establishment if we didn't move from the seats his employees put us at because someone had paid him more money. View is very limited and the food is mediocre at best. Look elsewhere for a rooftop experience. read more

I am extremely disappointed with Down The Line Rooftop and their dishonesty. Their website boasts great views of the ballpark and only show outdated pictures from before the Wrigley renovations. They fail to mention that they are now located directly behind the right field video board, which provides significant view obstruction. I almost purchased a GroupOn, but I am glad that I thought to do some research into the venue first. No wonder they are trying to sell out all of their seats on GroupOn. It's a scam because there is no longer a view of the ballpark. Horrible. They should be ashamed of themselves for trying to turn a profit regardless of customer satisfaction or the quality of the experience they are selling. read more

Do not come here for a concert. It is far too expensive for what you get ($125 with a groupon). There is seating for maybe a third of the people there. And don't think about trying to stand by the railing so you can see something, the bouncers wouldn't want to ruin it for the small crowd that found seats (we paid the same price why should they get to see and not me?). That point is null anyway though since there is pretty much nothing to see!! The stage is closed so I hope you like seeing walls. Maybe you should work out a deal so you can at least show it on the tvs there! Sounds like other places with the same deal have a much better situation going on. Don't come here!!! read more

Review for 2015. If you don't have VIP access don't buy this ticket if you want to see the game. Prior to the Wrigley renovation the rooftops sold private access to corporations and then got screwed when the right field video board went up blocking their views. Let me be clear. You will not see the game. Security will prevent you from moving to the viewing area. That said, the Clubhouse is nice and the servers are excellent. Drinks and food was perfect and served like they cared. It's too bad the game feed on the TV is delayed by about 15 seconds. The crowd reacts well before you see the play on the TV. read more

I went to a private event at this rooftop and thankfully didn't have to pay anything. It was a good view, we had reserved seating in the front and didn't have to sit int the "bleachers" which were pretty packed. The thing that shocked me was when I went to order a hot dog. I jokingly said to my friend "Uh oh - typo, it says that the "Chicago style" hot dog comes with American cheese." When I ordered, I laughingly said to the server "the hot dog doesn't *really* come with American cheese, does it?" she SHOCKINGLY said yes it does...A Chicago hot dog with AMERICAN CHEESE??? "Chicago Style Hotdogs". Never in my life have I heard of a true Chicago establishment offering American cheese on a hot dog, not to mention the pickle chips...disgraceful. read more

Wish I could give them 0 stars. Terrible view. We went out to smoke a cigarette on the ground level and had our hands stamped then when we tried to walk back in they wouldn't let us in even though we had wristbands and just been stamped. They said that since we left their "view" that enabled them to not let us back in. We politely asked to speak to the owner. He told us it's a liability thing. He said if we left their sight we may have gone somewhere to drink. Are u kidding me. I'm drinking all inclusive on your rooftop. It was for a concert. Kicked out 3 songs in. Wouldn't even let me go up to get my pregnant wife. You all will probably think wow I bet this guy said or did something. I came here as a group and I was aware of the no view (not limited view) before buying my ticket. The menu is pretty bland your choice of a hot dog, burger, chicken sandwich, etc. with 5-6 beers on tap. They should really just close this place down and have it as a bar where people can come and go. They stamp your hand before you come in, but that doesn't mean you can leave and come back (which makes the hand stamping pointless). The staff were friendly that is the only reason why I gave it two stars. Don't come here to watch the game, come here to eat and drink. read more

While I don't expect my review will hurt business, you should be forewarned that this rooftop has some serious limitations compared to others. First, if you don't get a seat in the bleachers, you're screwed. The foremost seating along the railing was "reserved" which was annoying. The second floor is an enclosed air conditioned bar which was fine, but I can do that at home. Food was fine (hot dogs, beefs, burgers, etc.), but you need to ask for potato salad or macaroni salad, etc. There isn't even enough seating to eat because they are large couches that take up too much space on the south side of the roof. read more

I've gone to this roof top for 2 cubs games and a concert (Bruce Springstein). Great location! The facility is across the street from the VIP box and we saw Bruce Springstein walk up from his tour bus. I give this box 4 stars because the food is excellent (6 great choices from burgers to brats to italian beef), but the alcoholic beverage selection is lacking. I enjoy drinking beer, but heaven forbid you want something different than beer! The wine sucks (meanwhile next door has a huge wine selection) and mixed drinks take a while to wait for. The view of the field is also excellent. If you see a groupon for this location, snag it! read more

You can't see anything. I went here for an Elton John concert and a cubs game. They have fine food and drink options. But you can't see anything from the rooftop. You're paying only for the food and drink and nothing else. If you like listening to the game or a concert and not seeing anything live...it's great. But overpriced for what it is. read more

save your money! we arrived well before the 12:20 entrance time for a 1:20 game and were not very far back in the line, but when we got upstairs there was no where to sit. literally they sold at least triple of what their seating capacity is. does anyone else want to stand for an ENTIRE ball game? don't think so, esp when its 90+ and there is enough shade for about 6 people on the patio area. the 3rd floor is nice to escape the heat, but if you actually want to watch the game, it's not gonna happen. there are like 3 windows and enough room for 2-3 people to see out of each. basic greasy food, and the sad thing was we could see the people at the next rooftop over with way better food enjoying the shade. we def won't be going to a rooftop game here again. btw, there was also a guy in a chicago pd shirt telling people they couldn't sit/stand/squat anywhere. even in front of the misting fan, random. read more

If you are coming to hear a concert-don't. The reverb from the stadium makes the sound awful. Just saw Billy Joel-you couldn't understand a word he said!!! We could see in to the stadium-the crowd not the stage but we knew that going in. Food was ok and great to get the VIP seats. had nice couches to sit on and a great waitress who brought us our drinks. It was a fun evening but disappointing to not be able to hear the music well. read more

I have been to Down the Line Rooftop four times over the last two seasons. I have never been disappointed! The food has been very good and the beer selection is awesome! The view down the right field line is one of the best on the rooftops. One of the best amenities is the lemon ice or warm cookies the staff hand out after the 7th inning stretch. I have never re-entered the stadium proper: Down the Line is the only place I will watch the Cubs from now on! read more
