I should've known better once other family members warned me of frequent last minute cancellations. I had scheduled an appointment with Liz (owner) then she canceled an hour and half before my appointment after I did tell them over the phone I would be driving from two hours away. I would've been more understanding if it wasn't a straight lie. She claimed to have a "sore throat the day before and still felt sick". I have been trying to call in and email and have been receiving no communication. I used to enjoy going here but this has been one of the worst experiences I have ever had. My business partner and I decided to file our taxes with Davina Alvarez. We filed late (which we were aware of) and needed to have Form 1065 filed and our K-1's received. The on-the-phone appointments were not promptly kept. Either the CPA was over a half hour late or she had to reschedule (on a couple occasions). My business partner and I understood that they must be slammed with clients filing late as well. To our surprise, we received a penalty from the IRS for a hefty amount, due to the negligence/ignorance of Davina. Had she filed for an abatement (which our new business definitely qualified for) this could have been avoided. My partner and I tried calling several times and were completely dodged by Davina all day. Even as I tried to schedule a phone appointment, I could not. Not even a courtesy email was given to us. Just a "She will get back to you when she can." We understand that we are a small business and not a big client, but Davina did a poor job handling us. Davina has called my business partner and said that we can try calling the IRS ourselves to get a sort of "fee waiver." Meanwhile, we handled it in less than 24 hours with my personal CPA and he did the abatement for us (calling the IRS was not needed to get the form done). We paid him $250 to fix Davina's mistake. I'm so glad that we were a priority at Alexandrian Accountancy. He really knows what he's doing and had informed us of our choices on how to waive the penalty fees as a first year small business. Rafael Alexandrian of Alexandrian Accountancy also works off hours to get the job done as quickly as needed (this is not sponsored)--I'm just very grateful that my business partner and I found a resolution ourselves. As far as service goes, it would have been amazing if a partial refund was given as an apology for a poor quality job done (on what should have been an easy job to do). read more

My husband unfortunately chose this place to do his taxes. I gave a one star review because DAVINA postponed doing his taxes for about three weeks. Week 1 my husband was missing a document and he was unaware. Week 2 she was too busy and week 3 she promised to do them on a Monday she never got to it so she promised to call him on a Thursday at 11am and never called. When my husband called her, a gentleman answered the phone and said she was still with her 10am appointment. I got fed up and eventually called her myself and she was done with her 10am app and still didn't call my husband to at least say "I'm getting your taxes done now." She ends up charging him $155 and CLAIMS to have given him a discount for a short form. Her lack of communication is really poor and unfortunately gave us a bad experience. read more

I have been going to Downey Tax Company for the past few years with my W-4, this was the first time I had to file a 10-99 and I completely regret it. I'm not one to ever write bad reviews, however this has really messed me up. I filed my taxes with them on February 24th, so I have been mulling whether or not to write this review, but after getting them amended I think its warranted. In all honesty, the person I always go to is nice, but for whatever reason seemed indifferent in helping me this time around. I recorded my major deductions such as mileage, out of pocket healthcare payments, phone use, gas, etc...all the major ones as I use them all for my job. I still owed $6,000 in taxes, which was extremely high considering most of my fellow coworkers were owing between $2000-$4000 which is what I was expecting. I understand we are all not the same but our deductions, age, income, and circumstances are. Needless to say I was quite livid as to why I paid $6,000. I decided to get my taxes reviewed by another company and have it amended. I should have gone to them first because they walked me through each and every possible deduction and were extremely thorough, and ended up getting me a REFUND of $2,100 deducted from the $6,000 I already paid, which I am now waiting for through the mail. When I was working with the new tax company the woman reviewing them stated that some of the deductions that I had recorded were not input correctly or not at all by Downey Tax Company. For instance, my medical insurance was not input at all and my recorded mileage of $12,000 business miles with a potential $7,000 deduction was input as $10,000 miles instead. Everything counts and I was even more disappointed hearing how things were off or shifted from what I had recorded, not just limited to the 2 examples I presented. I will never use Downey Tax Company again and neither will any of my family members. I paid a $210.00 filing fee so they can carelessly input my numbers and go about their day? Nah. Please refund me the $210.00. If anybody would like the name of the tax company that reviewed and amended my filing, please message me so I can tell you in private. Just don't go to Downey Tax Company like I did with a 10-99, or any filing and expect them to really care and help you. *Theres quite a few recent bad reviews as well, make sure you use yelp sort and click on Newest first or lowest rating. The rating for this establishment is well overrated and needs to be brought down. Do not rely on the comments left on the website. Definitely go to locations recommended first hand from friends and family. They charged me $180 to do my tax return and for the first time in my life I had to pay for both state and federal. If you decide not to file with them they do charge a $100 fee. On average I have not paid more than $80 to get my taxes filed. I believe in justice and strongly believe this location does not deserve the payment it gets for its services. Definitely leaving the place I felt used and unsatisfied. read more
