Warehouses have been repurposed into retail, dining, offices, studios, and more. I'd call it mixed-use, but I don't believe there are technically any residences on The Beacon property. It's all commercial. There are, however, new condominiums located just across the street (Pratt Stacks by The Providence Group). Curbed described this place as "the adaptive-reuse district." In general, like any new development, The Beacon is nice. It's clean and modern with attractive storefronts and patios, good landscaping, sidewalks, and benches. There's free parking too. During peak times, the lots can get crowded, but it's not a problem because there's plenty of free parking on the neighborhood streets. What sets The Beacon apart from other developments in metro Atlanta is its tenants aren't cookie-cutter. Most of the businesses here, as far as I can tell, are local. No chains. The development fits in with the neighborhood. Trendy, eclectic, colorful, vibrant. The buildings, paint, artwork, murals, lights, and The Beacon's "B" tower all look cool and beautiful. I'm not exactly sure when The Beacon officially opened, but the project was first announced in 2016 and businesses were open by 2018. My first visit was in January 2019 for a Yelp event at Pin & Proper: https://www.yelp.com/biz/yee-the-yelpies-2018-pin-and-proper-atlanta. Pin & Proper is a bar that has a unique game called pinfall, a combination of bowling, cornhole, and football. It's fun. I met the owners, Lauren and Chaise Hughes, and they were really friendly and welcoming. I made subsequent visits to The Beacon in 2020 and 2021 for restaurants Hotto Hotto Ramen & Teppanyaki (https://www.yelp.com/biz/hotto-hotto-ramen-and-teppanyaki-atlanta) and Buteco (https://www.yelp.com/biz/buteco-atlanta) as well as for the Grant Park Farmers Market (https://www.yelp.com/biz/grant-park-farmers-market-atlanta). Hotto Hotto has a really large and inviting space with a neat indoor-outdoor bar. Buteco is a small bar and cafe that has a hip patio, live music, and a food truck that serves outstanding Brazilian street food. The renowned Grant Park Farmers Market, which has been around since 2011, currently operates every Sunday, 9am to 1pm, across Grant Street from The Beacon.

Let me run down the stores: Sally's Beauty Supplies, Michael's, Homegoods, Marshall's, Ross, Hancock Freakin' Fabric, my breasts grew with each new store I was dragged to. Yeah, there's a Bennie's Shoes there, but ever since they crossed Sidney Marcus, even THAT place has chicked up. The women, the womyn, love it. I watched them dart back and forth while the eyes of we hapless husbands and boyfriends would occasionally meet, a moment of understanding and pain before we returned to our broken, vacant, thousand yard stare. The wife cooed over some, what is that? A chicken-shaped tea pot? WTF? And wait, we have to go to Michael's to get yarn? How come we can't just get them at Hancock Fabrics? They don't sell YARN? What do you mean "yarn's not a fabric." They sell fucking CHAIRS. You can't tell me that's a fabric. I may be a guy, but I'm not an idiot! Oh, but you are, dear sir, you are. At Michael's, my wife pointed out an elderly couple. The husband had picked out and was in the process of buying $60 of plastic autumn leaves. My wife expounded, "See that? That guy actually helped his wife pick those leaves out!" "Honey, his wife had 50 years to break him." OW! At least turn your wedding ring around before you punch me! One thing, though. If you're a single guy, I'd be remiss in pointing out what prime territory Buckhead Crossing is. In Michael's alone, you find sorority girls shopping for things to make posters with, MILFs buying styofoam balls for their kids' science fair solar system project, overly romanticized nascent cat ladies purchasing scrapbook materials. It's all there and with nary an alpha male in sight. Just create a believable reason for why a single heterosexual male would be found trolling the aisles (the picture frames are always good as is the line of questioning, "Excuse me, can I ask you something? Do you think my mom/sister/niece would like this?" Oh, and guys? You're WELCOME.) Alas I am no longer single, so Buckhead Crossing is of limited utility to me. I may buy a shirt once in a while from Marshall's, but that's a 15 minute project tops and not a 3 hour expedition. If you're ballsy enough, I recommend either a trip up Piedmont Road to visit Oxford Comics or a Sidney Marcus Best Buy run as revenge. ("Babe, while we're out, I've got to pick something up too.") Keep in mind, as satisfying as this may be at the time, do at your own peril, for hell hath no fury than a woman being forced to wait in a comic book shop. Hancock Fabrics - for everything they don't carry at Michaels. HomeGoods - the sanctuary of everything you didn't realize you don't need. Office Depot! Bank of America! Payless! Whee!!!! The bad - a horrible little camera thing set up by the police department (maybe?) in the parking lot that makes your car's radar detector buzz like an overcharged ... uh... family board... The going-half-mad - The Ross and Marshall's are pretty hit-n-miss as far as selection goes lately. Fatburger - it's OK, but I wouldn't say it's great. (see my other review on that!) and I'm pretty sure there's an eye clinic, but I haven't checked that one out first hand... Overall, you're likely to find what you need somewhere near here!

The vegan cafe is very affordable and everything I have had there tastes amazing. I love having this establishment in my neighborhood and can't wait to see how far the Irons' take this venture.

There's also places that you can actually buy fresh meat and seafood to cook at home. If you're trying to figure out where to go for some steaks or some oxtails or shrimp, you should check this out for sure. If you're trying to find something that's similar to an Asian market, for example, something off Buford Highway, this would be a good spot to check out. I also had a rare birthday outing here at SOHO in 2017. I know what two of them were: One was to meet up with me for lunch at Cafe at Pharr. As for the Vinings Jubilee shopping center itself, it's nice. It's outdoors and it's designed to look like a collection of classy, old, white and brick Southern homes. I think that's the best way I can describe it. The ambiance is charming and quaint. It's got a bit of an upscale feel to it with restaurants like the aforementioned Paces & Vine and SOHO, along with an assortment of boutique shops and offices. That said, it's home to big chains too such as Banana Republic, Cold Stone Creamery, and CVS Pharmacy. Vinings Jubilee is located in the heart of Vinings, just inside the Perimeter (ITP), close to both I-285 exit 18 (Paces Ferry Road - Vinings) and 41 (Cobb Parkway) just south of Cumberland Boulevard. While this is a nice shopping center, it isn't a mall or destination like Atlantic Station or Avalon where you'd generally go to shop/browse and hang out/walk around. It's more of a place you'd go to if you're looking for or headed to a specific restaurant, retailer, or office, if that makes any sense. Note: Yelp is weird. At one point, this listing for Vinings Jubilee changed to "Boardroom Salon for Men - Vinings Jubilee." I submitted a correction and thankfully, the moderators approved it.

Atlanta and it's surrounding towns are so interesting. This place reminded me of the mystical town…read morein "Big Fish" and Celebration, FL. It's very picturesque and has an old early twentieth century charm about it. All the buildings match the aesthetic, from restaurants to drug stores. There's lots of greenery and sidewalks. I would have loved to explore it more. Driving up I passed a lot of joggers and even bumped into someone I know just finishing up a jog. It's very beautiful here.
