My dog is reactive and can't be around many other dogs or too many new people at a time and the boarder Briana was a perfect match for Chewie. The organizer April is incredible with dogs, very smart and skilled in terms of behaviour and positive reinforcement for dogs, and has helped me learn so much about my dog over the past few months. Highly recommend for dog boarding and general dog wisdom and companionship!

While Sally is a…read moresweetheart inside the house, she's always looking for trouble outside, and can be especially reactive with other dogs. I need to know that the person who cares for my dog can handle my lil firecracker and prevent trouble from happening. My good friend who lives across the street is such a person, but more than a couple of days of dogsitting is kind of an imposition for a friend. I definitely did not want to send my large, energetic dog to a kennel (aka doggy jail). Bronte Pet Services to the rescue! I found them through a link on the website of the also-awesome Dizine Canine training centre. These wonderful people, April and Lauren and their team of petsitters, specialize in and even enjoy working with challenging dogs. They are also involved with HugABull rescue and are well-trained and experienced in reactive dog handling. We exchanged a few emails, and a couple of days before the trip, April, who would be sitting for us (the sitter she initially matched us with had to cancel) and another Lauren, who would providing some relief, came over for a home visit and to get the keys and contracts, etc. Sally loved them right away (cookies!), and when we left for the trip, we felt assured she - and the house - was in good hands. Knowing my dog, I had some lingering worries, but the first progress report email dispelled them completely. Throughout the trip, April sent us emails and pictures regularly to update us on how things were going. They would generally stay overnight and give her morning and evening walks and feeding. I'm also super happy with all extras April brought to the arrangement. She brought over her own doggy puzzle toys for Sally to solve to get her dinner - and who doesn't like to be told their dog is smart enough to solve the hardest ones with ease? She also introduced us to using a body halter, rather than the head halter I had been using, and even lent me one to try out after we got back. And she definitely wore my dog out with lots of interesting walks and "urban agility" exercises in the park nearby. They take care of all kinds of pets, but I love that they love taking care of even the more challenging (difficult, smart, energetic) animals. And I love that, since finding Bronte Pet Services, I feel like maybe I can now take a vacation once in a while!

Shaved her, even though I had a conversation with the owner Milena prior to grooming- Milena had told me that my puppy wouldn't be shaved because of the fact that she is too little and young and the fact that she just had her spay done. Yet my pup got shaved very short and blotchy - she is shaking till this day. CHLOE also cut her eye lash off and her ears are uneven!!! And when I called to complain they said I needed to come in for the refund- please note that the groomer CHLOE was not empathetic at this time and all she said was "I didn't see it" and when asked about her lashes she said "I thought it curled down". Still this is no excuse!!! So I went in for the refund and spoke with CHLOE face to face. She had the audacity to say "well, I was being sweared at" well, no shit, you made my first puppy bleed because of your fucking negligence, and kept saying that she had an rbf as well as a resting bitch tone........... I find this unacceptable. I posted on my Instagram and found out that CHLOE also did some other bad work on other pups and reacted the same way. They offered me to come back to get her groomed by the owner, but I'm too jaded to go back as my pup is already traumatized by that place. When I said my dog is traumatized and shivering, they offered me a little sweater for her, which was a nice gesture, but somehow this aggravated me even more, as if offering me free things would make this all better... It's infuriating, the fact that the groomer really didn't take ownership of what happened. Like, how could you or did you not know? Because CHLOE took less than 2 hrs to groom my pup. Had she taken her time, she could have avoided this whole thing. Maybe that's why the dog I saw on the way out did not want to go into this place.

We have used both the daycare and boarding services with no issues at all, staff are very detail oriented, handle medication administration with such professionalism and our dog always comes back in great condition. Staff: The team here is responsive, responsible and always friendly. They have accommodated our many detailed requests in terms of medications, and feeding our dog. They are so patient as we are always experimenting with weird things like adding probiotics/different cooked food mixes, toppers etc. they label everything, and even return containers cleaned! Picture updates are provided (although I wish there were some videos because we are so curious what our doggo gets up to while we are away). Honestly we have never had a bad interaction with anyone on the team. Space: They do split dogs between larger sized breeds and smaller, and the space is absolutely gorgeous, clearly designed with dogs in mind. Take a tour and see for yourself! Dogs are not left alone overnight. There is staff at all times and this was a big draw for why we chose Rex for boarding. There is also outdoor space complete with water activities and things to play with- again another reason we chose Rex. it can be difficult to find a daycare that offers outdoor space in Vancouver! It is also worth mentioning my doggo has never been returned to us with any cleanliness issues. I will note if your dog doesnt like sleeping in an open group environment you might need to pay a bit more for a more private sleeping format. Pricing:Pricing has always been very transparent. You can look on the website and find it listed clearly. I think it's comparable to similar facilities. There are some surcharges for boarding at peak times (ie. $15/night for Christmas) but I think thats understandable. In addition there are fees for medication administration (5 bucks/day) and a deposit (that goes towards your booking) to reserve boarding over stat holidays, but these have always been clear upfront, and staff are responsive to emails/happy to provide quotes before booking so you know exactly what to expect. We don't find the pricing to be unreasonable or ever a surprise although we haven't jumped on the daycare club card discount they offer ($390 for 10 full days) just because it can be lot up of upfront cost for a total 10 dollar discount minimum. However, it's worth noting club cards have no expiry and are totally refundable and likely make sense for other people who maybe take their doggo more regularly than us. Honestly, we once bought a half day card and totally forgot we had it! We were reminded by diligent staff! Most importantly:When we bring our doggo he is always excited and just immediately runs to the staff who are there to greet him. We think he truly adores the staff and his furry friends at Rex. We honestly have no complaints! I'm sure each dog is different so we can only speak to our own experience, but Rex has been great for us so far. If you are considering this place I'd say you really have got nothing to lose checking them out!

Asked for mostly a nail trim (they're becoming a health risk) and sure, why not, a bath. While he was in, they called me and told me he was shedding quite a bit (he does, but not excessively) and said they'd deshed him. I expected a bit of an upcharge for the brushing, but was surprised to see that my bill had literally doubled. They charged the same amount for a brushout as they would for a full shave. I felt a little taken by the upsell without telling me up front what the cost would be. Had I known it would have doubled the price of the appointment, I would not have agreed. They did a decent job but I am not entirely pleased with the way that this was handled. Edit: I have adjusted my review based on the behavior of management. Rather than cast blame at someone for not having a facebook conversation from more than a week ago on hand during a rushed phone conversation and messaging me on facebook with screenshots as a "gotcha", perhaps a small mea culpa of "yes perhaps we should confirm the price before going ahead" could have worked better and I would have been satisfied with that. I paid for the services that I agreed to, although I did feel a bit taken not knowing the cost, and I tipped, everything past this is just customer service, and the defensive behavior of the management towards someone who was perhaps a bit stung at getting charged double in what was a surprise due to poor communication is not a good sign for potential customers as to how this business handles problems when they arise.
