It also had a lawn and trees along its outer edges. Formerly known as Metro Square, the square was renamed in April 2011 by a Toronto City Council vote to honor the late civic leader David Pecaut. The Square featured The Eternal Flame of Hope, inspired by the perseverance of disabled people, and burned as a reminder that society must be all-inclusive. SERVICE There was none to be found throughout the day, but when there was an event going on, there was plenty of security and assistance - 'nuff said! PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance): I was in the area all day for the 50th Toronto International Film Festival, so I simply walked. Otherwise, there appeared to be some onsite underground, minimal to no parking spots along the main and many surrounding streets (I'm sure this was different during any other time), some nearby structures, numerous public transportation options (e.g. King St. streetcars, St. Andrew Subway Station), and rideshares - 'nuff said! However, I always appreciated the idea of an urban park in the middle of commerce and consumption just to break up the monotony, but the size of this "park" didn't really give you that respite to get away from it all. I've been to a handful of others in the GTA, and driven by some more; in spite of potential bias, I feel the Rose is nicest. Beautifully designed, no poor seats, terrific acoustics, a separate smaller theatre for smaller performances, a massive lobby which itself is well-suited for events. There's also free parking and coat check. It's perfectly situated in the heart of downtown Brampton with several restaurant options all within the same block. The Rose (I believe) also owns the fountain in front which is often converted into a mini-stage for local performances in the summer and compliments what's happening in Garden Square. I should award it 5 stars by these virtues alone, but the often lacklustre performance lineup can't really be disassociated with the venue - especially since it effectively organized by the theatre. It's not to say there are never worthwhile shows, but a bit too few and far between. I'm actually a bit surprised there aren't more since it is a such a perfect venue - perhaps its due to the fact that Casinos can offer more money to performers. In any case, a wonderful spot and hoping that it can draw even more shows and that the local population gets behind it.
