Only saw one of the old familiar artists I was looking forward to seeing, but there was a good showing of vendors--enough to ring the courthouse once and more booths sitting in the corners. All the vendors were masked, and all the shoppers when I was there. Most of the booths had a big jar of hand sanitizer out and available. Not everyone was good about the 6' rule so I'd just step off onto the grass when people came my way on the sidewalk. There were signs at the entrance requiring masks and stipulating 10 humans max at any booth at one time. I saw big paintings, woodwork, small original prints, LOTS of jewelry booths, leatherwork, wall hangings, one gent had some beautiful guitars and someone else had fabulous knit/crocheted items from children's ski caps and soft toys to cardigans. The Calaboose Museum had a booth so I took the opportunity to buy a t-shirt. It's one of those local treasures I keep meaning to learn more about, and I look forward to visiting when their refurbishment completes in January. For no particular reason, almost all my luck today was with glass. Who knows if any pieces will find their way under someone else's xmas tree or if I will make excuses and hold onto them a little longer.

A little smaller scale but imagine being outside at the Salt Lick on a near perfect night, sampling the best of Austin and sippin' on fantastic wines and cocktails. The tickets are a little pricey -- $80ish -- but I promise it is well worth it. Make sure you're there for every moment if you can. The best strategy is just keep moving. You'll see 100 people you know there but it's crucial to keep moving forward or you'll get full or miss something. The chefs really do a great job of making sure they've got enough for everyone though and the Live Fire organizers are good about not overselling. Definitely one of my favorite signature events. It's also great that it benefits the Austin food and wine alliance!

This was my first year at the Live Fire Event and it did not disappoint. The tickets were about $85.00 but well worth the price! Think of it as a non-traditional night out that you will walk away from with the meat and booze sweats! Who doesn't love that? This is an event had every one of the best restaurants in Austin showing off their best take on meat! There was burgers, lamb skewers, tacos, pork belly, etc. coming out of all booths! The layout was perfectly planned because they had a couple food tents and then a couple drink booths. This allowed your stomach to digest while you sipped on wine, bourbon, vodka, etc. The Salt Lick Pecan Grove Pavilion was a great choice for this event and the weather was warm but, cooled off quickly! There wasn't a shortage of parking or shady trees for you to take a break under. I also liked the second level that was behind the pavilion and hosted troughs of water, iced tea and lemonade to refresh yourself before you drove home! The pavilion had a very nice sound system and I loved the string lights they had in the trees! The sunset was beautiful behind the large trees! Some of the tents were crowded but, I also feel like the event goers moved in so many directions that you always had a tent to walk right up to and get served. I wish I could say that I tried every food and beverage vendor but, my stomach couldn't handle it. Better to have more than enough though in my opinion. If you haven't been to an Austin Food & Wine Alliance Event you really should because you are missing out on the true flavor of Austin!

The Wine and Food Foundation of Texas Cowboys + Gauchos event. The Wine and Food Foundation of Texas really did this up right, complete with cowboy boots and old style country music and a Latin tango beat to boot. The music from Tango Nostalgia made me wish I was in an Argentina Tango house with a rose in my mouth channelling my inner tango goddess, but I may need lessons first. I enjoyed Cafe Jose's Pork slices topped with a mango sauce and cilantro rice and beans. Zocalo was serving up an excellent melt in your mouth pork ribs and Agua Fresca. Live Oak BBQ had a tasty skirt steak and sausage. August Escoffier had a fantastic set of sides including apple jicama slaw, corn bread, potato cakes and beans. And if that were not enough, there was fabulous pork and yucca from La Sombra. Just when you thought it was safe to be free of the meat fest, there was a rack roasting an elk, another with a goat, a roast pig and lots of ribs and sausage on the fire. Alamosa, Becker, Fall Creek, McPhereson, Llano, Duchman and Spicewood were representing the Texas wine contingent. Gauchezco, Casa LaPostolle, Terrazas brought in the Latin America wines. E&J Gallo was also represented. The best part of this event, there were no long lines. The Wine and Food Foundation of Texas only planned to sell 350 tickets, so it was a comfortable day for all, and Mother Nature blessed us with perfect weather in a perfect setting. Yelp was there with yard games, bags, chap stick and other great swag to round out the fun. This is a gem of an annual event to add to your must do activities. It comes complete with an affordable festival price tag of just $50 ($40 for Wine and Food Foundation members).

You walk up to the check-in table and if your name is on the list you get to go in with your wine glass and barbecue plate in hand. It all felt very fancy considering whole animals were being roasted on pits just fet away. Also, for what it's worth, I thought the disposable plates with a slot to hold your wine glass were ingenious. I am definitely on the look out for them for my next backyard barbecue! So, head in and find several amazing local bbq joints 'cue-ing up some incredible meat, potatoes, cole slaw and other goodies. The food just never seemed to quit. And the people cooking were all to willing to chat you up and tell about their goods. And the alcohol didn't quit either! Several local wineries and some delicious local craft beer rounded out a delightful afternoon for me!

They sell beer ,wine and candies at the beginning of the show and during intermission. Just so you're aware leg spaced is a little cramped because this is an older theatre. I've been around long enough In New Braunfels to remember Elizabeth Elliot who started this theatre. Her daughter is now at the helm and on the board of directors . This theatre attracts very talented actors, singers, dancers for performances. They also do a Wurstfest show during the 10 day celebration of all things Wurst. If you check in December they offer package deals where you can pick the shows you want to attend or buy the entire season. Makes a great Christmas gift .

I think the place fits maybe 140ish people at most but every seat is a good one. They offer an array of performances from things we all know and are familiar with to unique pieces. Their latest productions opens in a few weeks and is called Dog sees God (a palindrome). Basically the Peanuts characters are in high school meets Pulp Fiction meets Mean Girls meets breakfast club. We bought tickets and can't wait to see the performance. We most of the cast last night and they are a talented little group of folk. They gave us a tour of the place including a green room and sets in the basement. Check them out!

The 2024 TM BBQ Festival was Saturday and Sunday, Nov 2 and 3. This was the third year it was held…read morein Lockhart, having moved down from Austin. Since we live in Central Texas, there is no shortage of good barbecue within an hour's drive or so, so this year we decided to forgo the crowded and not inexpensive ticketed picnic on Sunday and went on Saturday instead. Saturdays have evolved basically to A La Carte days. There is a "Taco Trail" of five or six taqueria canopies (vendors rotate from year to year), and canopies for about half a dozen other top-rated BBQ joints who sell their wares for straight-up cash or cards. Fewer than on Sunday, but again, no reservations or tickets needed. Just walk on up. The longest line on the Taco Trail was for El Pastor Es Mi Senor, of Netflix fame. But we live nearby and go there a lot, so we opted for BBQ lamb tacos from a joint in Mission. Never have tried a lamb taco, but these were great, with fresh pico and salsa. I'll be looking for lamb barbecue on future BBQ menus. There were plenty of beer and soft drink vendors around the square, plus a Jim Beam corral for those so inclined. Free water on the square. If in doubt, try going on a Saturday yourself to check out the scene. You can come back on Sunday if you want to splurge. And, BTW, dogs are welcome to come chow down with you.

Rookie. I was a rookie this year and had no idea what to expect. Arrived 30 minutes before event…read morestarted and there was already a sizable line. Doh' as Homer would say. Yet the staff was cool and entertaining while waiting and they even had a wacky marching band play to really get our festival started. Entered and had Hutchins BBQ first because my sister loves it the most. So good I eat the whole sample. Notice a veteran carrying around a large tin foil pan like you buy at HEB to hold all his samples. He said this is his 10th year. Brilliant. The Veteran also said you think you know what will he your favorite just throw that idea away. It will change as you sample. He was right. I see some empty tray pans and ask a BBQ dude if I can have one and thank heavens he said yes. So now I can balance my samples in style of a aluminum foil tray. Next to Hutchins was another good sample. I eat this whole sample too. Snows BBQ was next on my list to try and the line was long and the sample was highly disappointing. Dry and small and no good. Maybe I hit the line at a crappy time. I'll give Snows the benefit of the botched sample doubt. Few more samples later and I am meated out. I am full. Huge Rookie mistake eating the whole samples at first that I really liked. Didn't have room to try more meats. I was out. Then I laid on lawn listening to the most hilarious beautiful lady sing the blues. Oh my she was hilarious and amazing and sang ,,, 'if you didn't come to party, why the hell are you here' 'a low down dirty shame' 'I came to funk you up' At the end of the day ate more and Hutchins was the best BBQ. So moist and succulent you didn't need teeth to eat. Stood out hard against the rest which many of the other places were dry as a bone or all fat. Don't get me wrong I like to suck on grissel from time to time but not eat a huge piece of it with little to no meat attached. Hutchins wins. I won tickets to this event which was awesome but I would totally pay to attend again.

The first floor has historical artifacts from the area, and the top three or four floors are the jail. It is super creepy up there but fascinating. It seems so old, and it is, but it was also used up til the 1980s! Absolutely worth the $5 entry (cash only). Take the 5 min walk from the beautiful town square and check it out! It would probably only take you 30min to 45min to see fully.
