During these times of places being closed it's hard to know the right way to do things. I walked by and was looking in the window when a guy walked out and asked what I needed (nicely). I asked if they were open and he told me they did call in orders and online order for pick up. I looked online and found something that i wasn't able to get in my home state payed for it and then walked to pick it up. read more

Living downtown makes this my main stop for booze. It's not very big, but has a very sophisticated feel to it. It's not a very large store, but they have an amazing selection of spirits. What makes this place a 4 star is that while they have plenty of spirits to choose from the wine selection is limited and the beer selection is even smaller. It's a good place to pick up some craft beer, but is a bit overpriced per bottle. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. They will give you honest opinions on a product and even recommend a cheaper product if they feel it is better. That to me is worthy of my business alone. Was returning home from mountains of Southwest Virginia through Knoxville and searching for a discontinued fine apple cider made by Foggy Ridge Cider in Dugspur, VA, and called ahead to see if this liquor store had any in stock. I was pleased to find they had a few bottles left and I followed WAZE a short distance off the interstate downtown to locate this store. The proprietor was very helpful and I bought all his remaining stock of Foggy Ridge Serious Cider which is an exceptional cider made from heirloom varieties of apples grown in the Southwest Virginia mountains, no longer being produced. Being downtown, parking is somewhat challenging but the wine and cider selection and service here was outstanding. read more

This place was close to my hotel downtown, which was nice. I was very excited to stock up on some liquor for my weekend stay in Knoxville. I went to Downtown Wine and Spirits to buy two handles of vodka, which would keep me well liquored up. I asked one worker where to buy mixers and he was nice enough to give me his honest knowledge of the area downtown. But, when I went to the register with my two handles, that man with his handle bar mustache said, "this is too much alcohol," and wouldn't sell them to me. All is well, though, because I am a yelp reviewer and I got my vodka at the next liquor store. read more

This is a delightful store with a better than average selection. There's no shortage of good wine and liquor to suit quite a price range. While I've picked up expensive bottles of liquor here, I've also picked up plenty of new-to-me wine and champagne on recommendation of the staff, who are always helpful. They have a good selection of mixers, bitters, cocktail syrups, and some glassware and bar tools as well. Definitely stop in - they also have a good email newsletter. read more

While this store actually has a decent selection of wine, beer and liquor, service knocks it down many stars and I won't be visiting again or sending people their way. I walked in the other night with two medium sized dogs on two leashes and full hands. After buying two bottled drinks, I asked for a bag to carry them in. The man working that night made it clear that the bags are about $0.20 a piece and reserved for those who buy expensive wine. Those were his exact words and I felt bad that I had asked for a $0.20 bag for my $5 purchase. I tried to explain that I would be unable to carry my drinks (in the drink holder he offered), dogs and stuff and would appreciate a bag. I even offered to pay $0.20 for the bag but he grumpily told me there wasn't a way he could charge me for it before he finally let me have the bag with the biggest frown on his face. Jeez. I have stopped here intermittently over the last couple years to buy drinks but not anymore. I'm sorry that a $0.20 bag is more important than trying to keep your customers happy. Thankful that there are other places downtown I can get beer and looking forward to wine in grocery stores in a few short months. read more

Having a liquor store downtown is pretty handy. Not gonna lie. And with convenience comes a price. Literally. This cute little shop is a bit pricier than you're going to pay at most area liquor stores. This isn't the place that you grab a cheap...anything really. And that's ok. It's a price that I am willing to pay to not have to leave downtown to grab a bottle of wine for a party or whatever might strike my fancy. They have beer, though it's not the best selection and again...price. My favorite thing about Downtown Wine and Spirits is their liquor selection. They have a good selection of high-end liquors and a really nice variety of local and regional spirits. The staff can be hit or miss. Sometimes they seem a little pissy, but maybe I'm just not cool enough to relate. I mean...I get it. Other times, they are really friendly and happy to help. It's cool, though. I like to gamble and play my odds. It's like having a casino in Knoxville that takes your money but gives you liquor in return. read more

Like Ashe's, this is a grown up liquor store with a sophisticated, even urban look and feel. It has a smart selection of wine and an even better selection of spirits and beers. The staff knows what they are talking about, and they offer good deals on the first of each month. Also, UT affiliates will be pleased to find out they get a university discount. read more
