The food was excellent! [[HIGHLIGHT]]I'd knock off a half-star, if possible, for it not being a great place to dine (plastic cutlery shaky small tables, no alcohol) but that's being very picky-- they don't pretend to be fine dining.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] So the dumplings we had (angry, chicken) were just divine, and a great spice level (moderate). The masaman curry was very tasty-- loved the veggies in it as well as the shrimp. The buns were ok, but as the very amiable owner pointed out, the angry dumplings provide plenty of sauce that can be used for a 'bun dip.' Some of the best Asian food I've had in a while. This one has been bookmarked for a while now as a place to try if near downtown. It does not disappoint. In short, they offer dumplings (or dim sum) items and assorted Asian entrees. The "angry" descriptor comes from some of their dumplings being spicy. But, not all of them are spicy. Either way, this is a unique spot. I found the flavors to be delicious -- particularly the angry dumplings with chicken curry. Wow. That's one that you think about for days after eating it. So good. I also really liked the mushroom rice, grandpas beef noodle, and the red bean Bao. Boba tea was well done too. Only downside is I'm so full that I am drifting into a food coma now! Angry dumplings is a hidden gem in Knoxville. The owner Jason is a genuine person who puts lots of effort to the food. My wife and I come here for their Grandpa Noodle. The soup and the tenderness of the beef slices are perfect. It takes time to make meat this tender. So you can tell that they put their time in to provide quality food for the customers. I had the dumplings in the past as well and they are all tasty. Overall, if you are interested in trying some nice Asian style beef noodle, I highly recommend this place. Savory and lightly chewy dumplings are filled with super tender and flavorful pork and topped with a flavorful spicy chili sauce, a creamy aioli and some crispy bits. My mouth is watering thinking about these dumplings. I also had the Grandpas Noodles. This phenomenal noodle dish had thick savory noodles swimming in a rich flavorful beefy broth mixed with super tender sliced beef, crisp bok choy and a large dumpling. Finally, I also tried the BBQ Pork Bun and Traditional Pork Bun. Both were doughy and filled with marinated tender pork. This place is awesome. The staff is incredibly friendly, and if it's your first visit, let them know. They'll walk you through the menu, explain how everything works, and make recommendations based on what you like. It never felt rushed or scripted. They also take food allergies and dietary restrictions seriously. We were asked multiple times about allergies, and there were plenty of vegetarian options available. The food came out hot and quickly. I had the Grandpa's Noodles - absolutely delicious. My wife ordered the Garlic Parm Noodles with chicken and loved them. Our youngest started with an order of plain dumplings, ate three in record time, and immediately asked for more. That's about as glowing of a review as you'll get from a kid. We also tried the Pork Angry Dumplings, and my only regret was not ordering them as my meal. I almost passed because I was worried they'd be too spicy (I'm a certified spice lightweight), but they were fantastic. Just enough kick without sending me into a panic. If you're someone who likes serious heat, they've got plenty of "melt your face off" add-ons to keep you happy. Both of my daughters got boba drinks. We went at 11:00am not knowing that the restaurant opens at 12 pm on Friday. They let us in early. The food was excellent. We tried pork and angry pork dumplings, green onion noodle, pork buns and masaman curry. The dumplings are bigger than what I am familiar with. The dumpling skin is thin and easy to eat. They were tasty. The green onion noodle was good but the addition of angry sauce (we used the left over from the dumpling) made it superb. Pork buns were good. The meat seemed to have more fat part than I preferred but it made it moist and tasty, The curry sauce was good. I did not like the way potatoes were watery in the curry. Maybe it was because they were so busy but the pork bun was really just a bun. The amount of pork inside the bun was minimal, I am guessing less than a teaspoon. The ingredients were so fresh, the flavors were RICH and Infused and the textures were CLUTCH. Every single dish here was hit OUT of the park. Which is why I'm not going into detail about them specifically. You will just have to try them for yourself! My girlfriend being Vietnamese, she was skeptical at first (No Offense! - most places downplay their Asian flavors due to catering to the local demographic) because of the staff not being Asian on whether it would have been good or not. Super cool murals on the walls and a cozy couch in the back (near their random cluttered desk they presumably do business on?). There is a straw, plastic ware, and condiment station for doctoring up your bobas and entrees. A chili based sauce and the house sauce (holy moly this is good!) are awaiting little plastic cups. We ordered BBQ pork buns (3 in an order), Grandpa's noodles, pork dumplings (3 in an order), and Masaman curry with chicken. As the name suggests, the dumplings are the star. I was thrilled one came in my noodle bowl, too. The pork buns we would not get again (pretty dry and not soft and fluffy as we are used to elsewhere). There was some heat but in a flavorful way, not a mouth scorching way. They were nicely filled and a great texture. I have never had steamed BBQ buns before so I can't compare. These were soft, chewy, and sweet and absolutely delicious . The prices were excellent. This is the kind of food I find so addictive! Sweet, salty, soft, chewy, crunchy, spicy... and affordable. The Lucky Taro tasted like taro milk tea mixed with the leftover milk from a bowl of lucky charms cereal marshmallows. Service was great as well. This is a cute little cafe type spot on Sevier Ave. It is bright and colorful inside and does have tables to eat there. There are quite a few things on the menu I want to try. I liked that there were some options that were less adventurous; my mom is a picky eater but I think she'll like the veggie dumplings and the spring onion noodles I got my food to go because I had somewhere to be but I'll def be back and take better pics. Update-- as promised, I went back and got better pics! Service is so friendly here. The people taking orders have been so cheerful both times I've visited. The building itself has dodgy air conditioning, a fact that they disclosed quite clearly. I got takeout. It was ready with reasonable speed. My tea had ample fruit and an abundant tea flavor. The kiwi popping boba I added because I hadn't seen this option anywhere that I can recall had a bit of an odd chemical taste, so I just wouldn't order them again. Their menu isn't the most vegetarian-friendly, but you could ask for vegetarian chili oil with veggie dumplings (a kung pao fake meat entree was also available). And those dumplings did indeed look angry, covered in strongly flavored accoutrements. There was room for improvement, and they say they're working on the AC, but there were quality flavors to be had here, which is probably why it was packed. read more
