12/3/2025, Thursday night. Pretty lights and can be packed. It wasn't busy when I went at 7pm. See photos for the hours and how they look. One whole passage was only retailers. I go for the food! The other side was about 2/3 retailers and the rest food! I caved for the crepes. I ordered the basic butter and sugar crepe for $10. $11 total. They round up for taxes I see. It was warm and good. The atmosphere was fun there. I went solo. Kids, couples to everyone was there having fun. You can walk it in 10 minutes fast without stopping. Enjoy the food. I did. I'm going back there Thursday for the Ribs and Chili I saw. I can't wait. 12/4/2025. Grabbed the ribs at Old Blue BBQ! Yum. $20 and it was to die for. Counter. Trust me! See these photos.
Still the GOAT of Christmas markets in the area. TONS of food options this year including Raclette, hand-held crepes, bao buns, fancy hot chocolate and more! Lots of vendors selling a wide variety of unique items at all price points, which makes shopping fun. There is way more seating this year and lots of security around. Duck into the Smithsonian American Art Museum/Portrait Gallery to warm up or for bathrooms. Visiting here is a holiday tradition for us!!
I absolutely love holiday markets, and I love gatherings at night, so these two combine the two so I may have a bias! I love small businesses making awesome crafts, toys, trinkets, shirts, political this and that---just CREATING, and loving what they create, and selling what they love what they create. This holiday market brings together a range of artisans, artists, jewelers, and other wonderful vendors in two long rows of booth tents to sell their wares. There are spots for food and hot drinks to warm up but with very very long lines---my friend and I went on a weekday and it was really crowded. Well organized, thoughtfully arranged with yard games, and an information booth to help find whatever you might need. There are also photo opportunities and given its location many many other brick-and-mortar restaurant options nearby. Definitely worth checking out if you are a local or if you're visiting from out of town. You could spend a minimum of 30 minutes to loop around walking by all of the vendor and a maximum of your heart's desire. Enjoy!
As a Christmas market connoisseur, I can confidently say that the DC holiday market is worth a visit! While the market isn't very large, the quality of vendors is exceptional. Unique small businesses offer everything from handmade candles to pressed flower frames--I even picked up coasters made from old books, which was so creative! My only gripe is the lack of food vendors. The few available have very long lines, and the market could use more holiday decor and programming in the future.
A large number of unique vendors are gathered here. It's gotten better over the years. This is my 6th or 7th year to visit. It's actually the 20th anniversary of this event, so, congrats on that. Things are packed in pretty tight, but everyone is well behaved and courteous. It's an outdoor market, dress accordingly. I decided to go for a churro and wasn't expecting it to be so yummy. It's hot, cinnamony, and memorable. That's for sale at Alexa's Empanadas and Churros. A juicy beer bratwurst, with hot sauerkraut on a pretzel bun, at Taste of Germany is noteworthy. I found it to be pretty "wunderbar"; kept me nice and warm while browsing. J Chris, singer-songwriter from NYC, performed an upbeat set that was jazzy and fun and helped to enliven the crowd. There's a fair amount of live music here. The market is free, festive and well run. Take the metro to Gallery Place. It's easy to find and goes until Dec. 23, 2024.
Had tickets to see TSO at the Capital One Arena and we know that the Holiday market was one of the things we also wanted to do. Did not realize how perfectly close it was to the arena and the parking so it worked out wonderfully!! Had one of the best hot chocolates at Kilwins. Some of the food booths had incredibly long lines. Lots of amazing vendors. Couple photo opportunities very well put together
It's was a nice collection of unique shops, the problem is they are all packed into a small space. Maybe the shops could be spread out a little more because with the crowds, it was impossible to walk, let alone push a stroller. There were so many people trying to look at the vendors others couldn't see anything. So we decided to check out the vendors we wanted to see online. We came specifically for the hot chocolate and bbq. While waiting for the cocoa, my partner got a waffle with Nutella and fruit from Naughty Waffle. Her only complaint was there was too much Nutella compared to the fruit. However the waffle was fresh, crispy and the fruit was sweet and fresh. I wanted to check out Alexa's Empanadas and Churros but their line was just as long as S'mores & More. So you can imagine we decided to skip them. We attempted to get food from Old Blue BBQ however the first time we stopped by, they were waiting on more food and the last time they were completely out of everything except the drinks. On to S'mores N More....it wasn't their fault they went viral on social media. I'm really happy for them and their business. WITH THAT BEING SAID, waiting 2 hours for hot chocolate is insane. However it's what made us come to the market initially so I knew I would be mad if I hadn't waited. The hot chocolate was good BUT it's definitely not a drinking beverage. It's more of a sipping drink than anything. The hot chocolate itself was very rich and thick. The marshmallow was PERFECT. I had the funfetti and the way it was toasted...it had a hard crunch on the outside and gooey inside. Loved it!!!
This was our first time exploring the DC holiday market! We actually ended up going to the holiday market in Dupont first on accident and that one was significantly smaller than this one, so just be conscious that there's two! We arrived around noon on a Saturday and it was quite crowded - I recommend going earlier to avoid the crowds and the long lines! (We really wanted to try the s'mores hot chocolate but the line was SUPER long!) We tried the waffles first - the waffle itself was unfortunately thick and soggy (and a little burnt) but the Nutella + fruit filling was yummy! I would recommend getting only one to split between friends since it's quite a large waffle. The other stand we tried was the churro stand! The churros were piping hot, crispy and the cream inside sealed the deal! Unfortunately the chocolate churros were sold out but the Bavarian cream and Dulce de Leche ones were also excellent. It was perfect for a cold winter day. I highly recommend waiting in line for the churros! Overall I recommend visiting the holiday market and trying out the food and exploring the stalls! It's a fun half day activity to do with friends, family and loved ones!
The stalls themselves received a makeover in 2024 under new management, and they look nicer with the wooden support. Vendors are selling the same sort of items you've seen in the past. There are several tables and benches where people can sit down and enjoy the food, which I don't recall in the past. Many people were also sitting on the portrait gallery steps. I appreciated that there were more food options at the 2024 market with two food trucks and a BBQ vendor and a German vendor selling hot dogs, in addition to the usual empanada and churro vendor. I ate dinner before coming here, so I didn't have to deal with lines! There were at least 3 vendors selling hot chocolate, but by far the most popular and longest line was for the s'mores vendor. I was looking forward to the s'mores, from seeing it on instagram, but wasn't about to wait in that long line! At least the lines were organized from what I saw. The market does seem improved under new management. I went on a Monday at 6pm and it was busy!! I only bought one item- hot sauce. The market is a good place to meet up with friends or even to come here solo and browse.
This market is extremely cute for the holidays! I do recommend if you're in the area, you should visit! They have all kinds of stands with a variety of cute things! There are not a lot of food vendors. But they do have some cute snacks like churros, stuffed waffles, hot dogs, empanadas and hot chocolate. The lines do get long and the waiting time for some of them can be very time consuming especially if you're on a time crunch. Overall nice experience! We got snacks, bought from the truffle store and enjoyed our time! Will definitely go again!
TLDR: Always worth a visit at least once a year! Very nice (and growing!) holiday market in DC just outside the National Portrait Gallery. Many small and artisan vendors with unique gifts plus live entertainment and vendors offering holiday goodies like hot cocoa to add to the festive air. A bit like a pop-up holiday mini version of Eastern Market! Only criticism might be that the lines for the food vendors are VERY long and the prices (TBH) are really outrageous. Service at various booths depend on the popularity of the offerings and number of staff: remember to be kind and patient as many of the vendors are small businesses.
Lovely Christmas atmosphere, but do not come hungry. You will wait in line for a very long time, as many of the booths (especially the popular ones like the s'mores/hot cocoa and German food) do not have the staff or the equipment to manage the amount of people present. I waited in line for about 30 minutes for the hot cocoa and the line did not move. Eventually I got out of line. I wish there were a larger selection for the vendors and the food. However, the vendors present did have lovely offerings! The music is a nice touch and because it is free to enter, it's good popping in for a short time before heading to a restaurant or elsewhere.
I really liked this holiday market. There were lots of shops, and a decent amount of food and drink options. There was also live music, which was nice. Although the items at a lot of the tents looked cool, I ended up only getting the churros, which were very good. I got the bavarian cream and dulce de leche filled churros. They were piping hot, crispy, and delicious. Although the line was super long, it went by quickly, and they were pretty efficient with getting our churros out to us. My only complaints are that everything was overpriced, but I guess that is to be expected, and I feel like the shops could have been spaced out better. This is a great place to stop by during the holidays, even just to look around!
My favorite holiday market in DC, I love coming here every year! This market has grown over the years with 50+ artisan vendors and more hot food and boozy vendors! There are lots of hand-made craft and unique gift items (ramen stall, truffle stall, cat & dog stalls, as well as plenty of jewelry, chocolate, candle, toys, ornament, and crafts stalls). I bought a Ramen bowl from Japan for hubby, Truffle butter @ Truffist, and dark chocolate Oreos (the dark chocolate pretzels aren't that good) @Capital City Jar, kudos for being a long-time vendor! I also got an overpriced $40 onesie @SOL, the material was very soft and made in the U.S. In terms of the hot chocolate stalls, the Truffle stall and the S'mores N More are my favorite. The Marshmallows are gigantic and should have mixed them in! I got a pack of 6 marshmallows and picked out the flavors - Rainbow, Cookies and Cream, and Toffee Marshmallows. The Racklette sandwich was delicious - you must try it! It was so fascinating to watch the melty swiss cheese get scooped off the big truckle cheese wheel and sandwiches into a soft baguette roll. The Churros with Dulce Leche filling are a must - I always get the every year! Kudos for being a long-time vendor! The Dirty Habit Chalet boozy is a bit gimmicky. I paid $17 for Whiskey and Cider, I wish it was served warm and the service was lukewarm. The air-fried Gnocchi from Carmine's was a complete miss and a total disappointment. The Gnocchi lacked the crispy edges and pillowy soft juicy center. The texture was completely off from the air fryer. Excited to go back next year for some more gifts and delicious goodies and sweet treats! read more

Ned something to do in DC over the holidays? Come visit the Holiday market. Local artisans, crafts and products are available for humans and your pets. Grab a churro, hot chocolate, or even better Kat's King of Steaks for your Korean style Philly cheesesteak with wiz! It's crowded so beware of bring strollers and your pets on leashes. Great atmosphere, music and gifts to be bought. read more

This has been on my list and I finally decided to check it out this past Saturday. I definitely enjoyed it and will be back next year (or maybe this week). There were a lot of shops for it to only be a couple of blocks. They had a lot of interesting, diverse, and unique items that I've never seen elsewhere. The prices were affordable in some places and beyond my budget in others. But, for the uniqueness of everything I saw , they were all reasonably priced. My favorite spot was the spice shop. They had so many fresh herbs that they were packaging right there. You could also purchase pre-packaged spices. I got the suya slice and I def. was a fan. We also checked out the German wiener stand. The line was long but moved relatively fast. I tried the currywurst and the beer wurst and they were both super delicious. They came on a hot dog bun and it was so filling. It would have probably been even better if it wasn't cold out, though that didn't take away much for me. Soemone in line also said to try the cider, so we did and that was amazzzzing. I want some more like yesterday. They also said they sell their items online. What I didn't enjoy, was that parking was really difficult and we ended up having to park in a garage. It was also very crowded, so it was hard to go into some of the stores. And the lines were really long to get food. read more

The Downtown DC Holiday Market is a fun holiday feature in what otherwise is a lacking scene in DC during the holidays. The market hosts unique vendors, many of which are little-known, small business owners. There are a few big name chains with booths at this holiday market like Kilwins, for example, however, their chocolate candy is featured, not their ice cream. The various shops are diverse, showcasing unique gifts, many of which are cultural. Items range from handbags, textiles, candles, jewelry, spices and cooking oils, paintings, and abstract art, just to name a few. I appreciate the many local businesses and entrepreneurs that set up shop here. There are a few food vendors, however, they are inadequate to accommodate the crowds. In defense of the holiday market planning committee, I don't think they anticipated the large crowds this year. I surely did not. In fact, future holiday markets could benefit from a larger space to accommodate the crowds and expand opportunities for a wider range of food vendors, small businesses, and the overall customer experience as the walkways felt tight at times. The food lines here were just too long, and I visited on multiple nights and had the same experience. The feature food vendors, like the hot chocolate stands, had massive lines. Despite the long lines, this is a fun, festive, and free holiday experience that the city should continue to invest in. read more
I was visiting in town and this Christmas village was pretty cute however extremely cramped! As far as vendors, there were many to chose from but you did have to wait a bit to even be able to look around. I was suggest to go at a different time when there's less people. I visited this market and the one in Baltimore and would say the Baltimore market is larger and has a greater selection! If you're closer to downtown then still give it a go. There's mini donuts, artistry items etc , all at a pretty fair price read more

Small outdoor market with some dessert and food items, but don't expect a lot! I love exploring these quaint little shops that most people have probably never heard of. You get to actually talk to the owners of these shops and hear their story of how they started their business and see their passion. There were two memorable stalls for me: - Lost & Forged: old spoons were taken, morphed, and made into jewelry, card holders (Wallet), hangers, etc. You think of it, she makes it. I never would have imagined that a spoon or fork could be morphed into another useful tool or decor. The lady who owns the shop said she came up with the idea when her family had a lot of antique spoons laying around they never used. A+ for creativity. She was also excellent to talk to. - Jonathan's Paintings: what attracted to me to this place was seeing a doggo with a lobster on his head and a wine glass on the dog. It was such a bizarre and adorable picture (huge dog nose -- and I love dogs' noses!) that I had to stop and check it out. The artist has been painting all his life. Sometimes, he takes old paintings he doesn't like of his, cuts it up, and pastes it to a different painting he likes. He's originally from New York, but he's visiting the area for the holidays, so go check him out before he leaves! Very friendly as well! read more

I'm used to the Bryant Park Christmas Market in Manhattan, so when I saw this market I was disappointed at how small it is. I should have realized that good things come in small packages, because this little market was big fun! There were several extremely creative, local business/artists plus ample snacks. The cleverest booth was the Museum of Illusion's free photo op ... a must do. Overall, the market does not take long, and I recommend a visit. It was charming and well curated. Guy Fieri's sports bar is nearby for casual drinks/burgers in a sit-down setting. read more

The downtown holiday market offers a variety of vendors. There are food vendors where you can grab a snack while you walk up and view the local artists and merchants. Their merchandise ranges from local artwork created by DC artists to bath and beauty products made in the area from local organic products. If you're looking for a unique gift for a loved one, the this holiday market won't disappoint. There's something for everyone. Don't forget to stop by the live music in the middle of the tent displays. You can grab a seat under a heater and listen to local musicians play holiday jingles and beyond. It's a fabulous place to be during the holiday season. read more
Very cute!!! Loved the fake snow machine at the entrance- literally walking into a winter wonderland. Music is playing and they take temperatures before allowing people to enter. Oh- and DOGS ARE WELCOME! A good amount of shops! Larger than I anticipated. I found a few cute items and saw some splurge worthy items. Good food options from churros, Mexican food, Indian food/drinks (DONT get the chai- get the mango lassi), glazed nuts, etc. Very worth the visit during the holiday hustle and bustle :) read more
Walking the streets my first night in DC and came across their holiday market. It was a beautiful sight once the sun went down and the Christmas lights lit up the street. Lost of different vendors to shop from. Live music being played all night. Everyone I interacted with were very friendly and helpful, referring to vendors and people attending. It was a nice and enjoyable experience! read more

This was my first time at the Downtown DC Holiday Market in Penn Quarter, and I went on a weekday to avoid the large crowds, traffic, and parking nightmare. I found some super cute handmade Christmas gifts for the family, and I enjoyed the live music. The market is in front of the portrait gallery so, if you have the time, I suggest a visit to this lovely museum. Overall, a good trip. read more

We went here on a Saturday night. Parking was a bit tough so just be prepared. Once we walked up to the market, it was pretty packed, but really nice! There's not too many food stands but the ones that were there had the longest lines. There were lots of cool local and small businesses there selling all types of items. Paintings, crafts, clothing, teas, spices, gifts etc. there were also performances and nice holiday decorations. I ended up buying some open bag teas which was really good! We walked all around the markets and probably only spent less than an hour there. But it was worth it. read more
The Downtown Holiday Market is a must-see during the holiday season. Even if you're not looking to buy anything at the time of your visit, it's a great display of local vendors. If you are looking to buy, there is a lot of variety from apparel to art to edibles (e.g. Capital Candy Jar) and so much more that would make any gift recipient happy. Beyond the retail are the other features namely performers and food! Migue's mini-donuts are literally the truth! So soft and chewy. The hot chocolate offerings are amazing especially the Mexican Hot Chocolate. Y'all...there are literally no words and yet positive words all at once. The variety of performers is excellent and with 2-3 acts per day, you're bound to hear something you like! There are great photo ops all around if you're into memories or simply doing it for the 'gram. The one thing that I wish could be different is the space. It can get crowded but it does move. We had so much fun at the holiday market in a weekday! We spent an hour walking around and browsing the booths. This would be great for a friend/ family hangout or date. There are artists, artisans, culinary delights, and so much more. I loved looking at all the great holiday gifts. People are so creative and talented with the products for sale. Each booth is outfitted to fit each seller. There are beautiful treasures to be found. You will definitely find a gift for everyone on your list. There is live music by wonderful musicians. There is a small section to sit and enjoy the performances, but you can hear the music playing through the speaker system throughout the entire market. I do not suggest coming here if you are looking for a hearty meal. They have donuts, churros, hot chocolate, coffee. I believe there was one Jamaican food booth and a BBQ booth, but I don't recommend this as a food spot. That being said, if you do anything get the churros. read more
