I took my staffy here thinking the dog park was towards the front. I had never been to this location since im not from the area. I couldn't find much information online and my maps took me to the parking lot. I was surprised to see there was a children's playground and baseball fields all over. I had to go ALL the way to the VERY BACK of the park. The dog park was ok. There were some toys, and water bowls for dogs. Even a hose. And some dingy seating . Very dusty and no greenery. Not bad but not the best & I don't think I'll be going again. read more

If you come this way, you need to walk around the baseball field and you will see it all the way in the back. We spent a very humid Saturday afternoon at this Dog Park which is nicely segregated for small dogs and for large dogs. We joined the Spaniel Rescue Meetup Group who meets at this park once a month. If you have a small dog or even a big one for that matter who likes to roam freely within the confines of a nice shaded and gated area...this is your place! We were with about 50 cocker spaniels and lot's of neurotic owners with PLENTY of shade, water bowls and nice stone picnic tables to sit out on while your dog enjoys themselves. MInus one star for homeless shopping carted people who smashed in a window to one of the members cars, stealing whatever was inside the car. I DON'T recommend leaving any valuables in your vehicle in plain view. We saw quite a few bums coming out of the canyon and through that area when we walked our dogs up to the Park. 10 minutes later there was a break in. Otherwise, this is a very nice and family oriented area! They even provide Pooper scoopers with plenty of trash cans available so that you can pick up after your dog when he/she decides to drop some "kids off at the park"! read more

I came here with my daughter to take her Easter egg hunting. It's free for the public. My daughter was first in line. The lady organizing the event let 20 kids go in first. You get as many plastic eggs but there's nothing in them. You basically return it back in the box they have. Good idea to recycle the colorful plastic eggs. After they toss them, they get a goody bag with candy and small toys in them. Pretty cool. The park is so huge! There were tables with games the kids can play. Definitely a fun time for my daughter. One of the booths even offers dance classes for young kids to teenagers. I definitely want my daughter to be a dancer. She loves to dance. The event was well organized by the people here. There's a playground for big and little kids. Parking was plentiful when we got here but it got full fast because of this Easter egg event. I definitely enjoyed my time here with my daughter. read more

Small enough space to foster community, big enough to have your own space and private conversation. Close to many apartments for there to almost always be dogs there. The biggest packs and most regular dogs show up around 9am and 4pm on the weekdays and there's a great surge 10-1 on weekends. In between is great for smaller groups. read more

You can hardly call this a dog park. Yes, it's separated into two sections for large and small dogs. Yes, it's fenced. Sure, there are chairs for you to sit down and watch your dogs. But goodness gracious, it needed TLC like 3 years ago. Absolutely no grass left. It's all dirt. The small dog section is incredibly small and it smells absolutely awful. You can tell there are regulars that come here often. They let their dogs go, then just chats and ignores their dog. Luckily we didn't see any poor behaviors, but still, you need to keep an eye on your dogs! We stayed for maybe 15 minutes before we left. Maybe we came at a bad time - none of the dogs there were interested in playing. So our poor guy was just standing around waiting for someone to notice him. Couldn't stand his sadness, so we left and took him to UCSD campus instead. But honestly, don't go here. It's really not worth your time. Thoroughly disappointed at the state of this dog park considering it's in such a nice area in San Diego. read more

Nice park....unless you are at the Dog Park. It seems that the management doesn't take good care of the park (sprinklers don't work, lots of bare spaces) but the rest of the park is very well maintained. It seems that the most popular areas are the dog park, kids playground and the baseball/soccer fields. But there is definitely this antagonistic relationship with the Park Management and the dog park - actually - I think it is Park Management and one dog park patron. Just very bizarre since the Nobel Dog Park is better maintained (isn't it the same Parks and Recreation?). For example, the park management of Doyle is trying to remove an Handicap parking space at the dog park because they say it's 'illegal' (just weird to be attacking such a spot in the first place) - and that handicap parking will be moved a quarter mile away. It's just coincidental that the one vocal dog park patron happens to be handicapped. Just silly!! They want to remove all parking on the east side of the park, but so many of the elderly with their dogs attend the park - and they aren't the most mobile group on the planet. Not a very smart thing to do. Who ever is running this Park and Recreation department should be careful - since his paycheck comes from the patrons of the park and taxpayers of San Diego. read more

The dog owners who come here regularly suck! Those dirty old plastic lawn chairs or cement table and bench can't possibly be that comfortable for you to sit and chat away when your dog is crapping all over the place or terrorizing another dog. You are there for your dog - so keep your focus on your dog! If you can't do that, then keep them on a leash. Common sense. My favorite is when the medium 25+ lbs dogs are in the little dog section killing each other. I saw this happened just the other day. Two english bull dogs in a fight and the owner didn't even noticed until a smaller dog yelped because he got caught in the middle of it. Both dogs belonged to the same lady (of course). Those bull dogs must have been at least 40 lbs each. A 10 lb dog wouldn't have stood a chance. I can understand if a calm medium dog is more comfortable in the smaller dogs section, but if you have a medium dog with high energy (and don't pretend you don't know) and you decide to put them in with the smaller dogs, then you are a JERK. And you are even a bigger JERK for not watching your dogs and picking up after them! read more

I've been coming here for a couple weeks and I love it. I'm only putting 4 stars because the park could definitely use a little TLC trimming the weeds and filling in some holes. Maybe the regulars can team up? Eh? If you're looking for a place to take a seat, have a nice chat with some good people, and let your dog run amok with lots of fury friends, check out this park. It's full of people after work hours, especially on Fridays. I don't like writing negative reviews, but unfortunately, each of the four times I have been here there has been an incident among the other dogs, and I don't want other newcomers to have to deal with the experiences I've had. Top concerns: 1. NEGLIGENT OWNERS. Very rarely have I seen any type of behavior management here. The DOGS control what happens at this park (not the people!) and behave as they please with no intervention. At the best dog parks I've been to, EVERYONE plays a part in ensuring the safety of ALL dogs present, even if that means stepping in to help manage a situation that does not involve your own dog. 2. BEHAVIORAL ISSUES that go unaddressed. I'm not against bringing dogs that need training work to dog parks by any means. As long as the owner is responsible and attentive, I would say it's in many cases a good thing for the dog's socialization. But for example, many of the dogs here have barrier reactivity, so whenever a person/dog/car/etc. passes by the park fence, they all swarm in a frenzy and in some cases redirect on one another. I've never seen an owner attempt to get their dog's attention to keep it away from the fence in the first place. I've also never seen an owner step in to resolve a fight between dogs. It seems the accepted philosophy is to "let them work it out." 3. PACK MENTALITY among both dogs and humans. Every time I have been here, I see all the same people. Hence, they are already aware of the personalities of the dogs that frequent the park, and seem to expect others to accept their dynamic as the norm. It's great that they have developed a community among themselves, but it's not the best atmosphere for a new dog to enter. The entore park is huge, having multiple facets of areas to explore and (am walking after the sun) dogs are off leashes and nobody make a issue. Parking is up front and you can walk around the baseball field to get good distance in. Actual dog park is in the back side of the park and is large enough but with dirt. Walk around is paved and lushed with grass, plenty benches and trees. Great spot for picnic also. read more

Went here last week with my pup, and it was an awful experience. The park itself is in bad shape. It's a small patch of dirt and has no grass. Also, we were there for literally 5 minutes before someone's shepherd attacked our 5 month pup. The shepherd kept clamping down on our guy's back leg, and our puppy was wailing pretty hard. So we quickly removed him and ourselves from the park but not before someone shouted from across the park that our puppy was "fine" and we should "lighten up." Maybe it's just sh*tty owners, but it seemed that everyone was their phones and not monitoring their dogs. Idk, I would not go there if it means encountering those a**holes read more

I wish I would have read the Yelp reviews on this park before coming here. Back in May, my husband and I were having a fun time exploring our old stomping grounds (UCSD, Regents Pizza, etc) with our pup Jack and decided he deserved a trip to the dog park on the way home. We typically take him to Nate's Dog Park in Balboa or the dog park behind Kearny High School, but we knew there was a park in the UTC area, so we quickly looked it up and found Doyle Park. I should also say that we have been to multiple dog parks in San Diego and the Inland Empire with no problems whatsoever. In less than one minute, I was on the ground with a broken wrist. A huge dog knocked me over from behind almost as soon as I had entered the park. The dog kept running, so it wasn't quite a "dog attack", just an uncoordinated/blind/goofy large black dog. My only memory of the park before the incident was how all of the dog owners were sitting together near the entrance. As it's a small park and I was standing within all of their view when I fell, I know the majority of the people saw the incident and heard me panic at the sight of my deformed wrist. Yet NOT ONE PERSON came up to us to apologize for their dog knocking me over. Obviously, we left as quickly as we could so I could go to the ER, but there still was plenty of time to track us down, apologize, and give us their phone number (and you know, generally be a responsible human being). We had even parked right near the entrance and sat in the car for a few minutes while we called Kaiser to see which location we should go to. Again, no excuses for not approaching us to take responsibility. One kind man did pick up our dog for us as my husband was worried about getting me to the car first. But that was it. And no, we did not demand to know whose dog did it because we were kind of preoccupied with a broken bone, a new experience for both of us. Accidents happen. Dogs run into people (not that often, but I'm willing to accept it might not have been a pattern for that dog, just a one time mistake). My husband and I wouldn't have sued or even made the people feel bad for what their dog did because we get it. Luckily I have awesome insurance, I only missed a few days of work, and it was my non-dominant hand. But like, I had to have surgery. I just finished occupational therapy. I have actual PTSD at dog parks and around running dogs now. I stay seated or near something I can hold on to and let my husband follow our dog around. A simple apology would have been nice. Even better would have been the dog's owner stepping up and letting us know that they would incur some of the cost if need be. I stumbled across this Yelp page as I was filling out an insurance-claim form that I got in the mail today and I couldn't remember the name of the location of the accident. After a doggy date with Coco, a senior compared to Diggs, we came to Doyle dog park so he could run off some of his bottled testosterone and teen angst. There is plenty of parking, I came in from Nobel, and parked closer to the jungle gym, so there was a bit of a walk to get to the designated dog area. One of the upsides to this park, is that there is separate parts for the larger and smaller dogs. Diggy usually get trampled by the larger ones at other parks and because he is so young, he becomes quite annoyingly loud and yappy. The downside, theres no water fountains anywhere near, that I saw. So once inside and running Diggy had nothing to replenish himself since I forgot a water bottle, resulting in only a short trip. I guess this is a great place for those who live close, but the park is a lot smaller than most, and no water, so I probably won't come back here too often. read more

I recently discovered this dog park and really like it! I've been here about 4 times and every time I came there were plenty of both big and little dogs for my Maltipoo, Daisy to play with. I was glad to hear that this dog park had a fence separating big and small dogs - Daisy is 5 months old and about 4 pounds. I don't understand why there is a controversy over the fence - its a safety precaution to protect little dogs. I'm all for socializing Daisy with bigger dogs, but SOMETIMESS there are irresponsible owners who don't know the temperaments of their own dogs. Most of the big dogs have been quite docile and nice, but I have seen a few scuffles - nothing for the big dogs to worry about, but the little dogs would have been trampled if they were there. I've seen larger dogs in the small dog area and vice versa - if the dogs can handle it, then I don't think anyone will object. My only complaint is that some of the owners are either cliquey or overprotective of their dogs. My 4lb dog was just playing around with another dog (which was actually larger) and the owner freaked out saying my dog was attacking hers. I always think that dogs aren't at fault, but their owners. Some owners are just ... not that well educated when it comes to dog behavior. But overall, the people are usually very friendly and as are the dogs. You may need to park down the hill on the more "peak hours" but that's no biggie. The separate entrance to the dog park culdesac is a little more hidden, but it's on Cargill. read more

My MinPin, Tino and I are fans of this dog park. It's great because it's close to home, it's kept clean and it's separated by small and big dogs. This works great for us because Tino is just under 3 lbs and inches off the ground. He can be pretty quick, but he's been run over a couple times by bigger dogs (dog beach). I haven't had any problems with any car break-ins (as stated in other reviews). I have seen some questionable characters hanging around outside the dog park, but doesn't really bother me. I love the grass, the shade and the tables provided. We've met some great dogs and their owners during our visits. However, I am taking 1 star away for another dog owner purposely taking my dogs toy and keeping it. Oh well, but that's not going to keep us away! read more

July 2019 Doyle Dog Park Started going here about a year ago. We use the small dog side of dog park. We have met a number of very nice folks here. It seems that any necessities like dog scoopers and rakes, chairs etc are all provided by the users of the park. Little if anything is done by the parks and rec staff. In fairness there was one staff member who did spend some time cleaning, weed whacking etc for a few months.The poop trash cans are empties once every two tho three weeks and park needs to be reseeded. TODAY 8/6/19 I SAW SIGNS THAT THE PARK WAS TO BE CLOSED FOR 6 MONTHS STARTING IN 3 DAYS. Not much notice for us taxpayers who own the facility. read more

The one lone star is for the fact that it's divided into large and small dog areas. That's about it. I came here with my wife and dog because we were in the area and felt we might as well try it out (our usual park is the nobel one). Bad decision. There's tons of negligent owners here who don't know the slightest about training their dog properly or even putting the effort (if you're going to own a dog, there's a large commitment that comes with it!). We train our dog well and although she's not one to play with the other dogs much (she usually just likes playing fetch), she knows not to impose on other dogs' and peoples' space. Anyways, one owner decided to bring in their large dog into the small area and it kept trampling onto other smaller dogs (including my own). The owner did nothing but sit on the table. One other dog just kept stealing our dog's ball away and playing keep away. A third owner, although nothing was wrong with his dog, kept eyeing my wife from the corner like a creep. If there's no problem with the dog, then there will be a problem with the owner here at this park. Often, there's something wrong with both. And what wasn't seen as much is a respectful owner with a decently-behaved dog. The park itself was not as big as the nobel one, but there was definitely more poop. It can mostly be attributed to lazy owners, but maintenance should happen more frequently at this park. Definitely sticking with the Nobel one and never coming back to this one. read more

I really do not care for this Dog park after seeing what else is out there. My dog loves to play with other dogs and typically has really good experiences, but for some reason she has a real issue with this place. From what I have observed, most of the owners during peak hours sit on picnic chairs and converse while their dogs run amuck. As to say that it's hard to have any sort of order when the dogs are running the show- and from what I have seen typically results in a few of the more hyper or aggressive dogs acting inappropriately while their owners do not act. If you are looking for a social hour- this is the place for you. Otherwise I would head to the dog park up the street by the library. read more

If googlemaps leads you to the Regents Road side, be sure to walk past the baseball fields to the other side with the street Cargill, it should be on the very opposite end of the large children's playground. Pros -built in water fountains right at the dogs height -two separate areas for big dogs & small dogs -is fairly well lit-so even during dusk, it's not too difficult to exercise your dog -people who come regularly are nice enough to provide chairs for everyone's enjoyment -there's always plenty of parking, and if there's none in the cul-de-sac, the street is only down the hill Cons -mostly grass and dirt (no wood chips/AstroTurf) so during rainy times, you're out of luck -as with all dog parks, there's always a few that ruin it for everyone with their misbehaving dogs -there are some gaps in the fencing, so if you have a particularly small/sneaky dog, they may be able to maneuver their way out (but as long as you keep an eye on them it should be fine) Overall, I enjoy bringing my dog here, the big dog side is personally where i hang out :D read more

Doyle dog park is our favorite dog park for small dogs. We love that the big dog area is separated from the small dog area - which keeps our little Yorkie safe from accidental damage from bigger dogs. The park itself is next to soccer fields and a play ground area so if you wanted to also have a picnic or bring the kids to play you can meet all your needs in one park. The park itself is a good size and has water at the far end. There are also plenty of places for you to sit down (in the shade and in the sun) to watch your dog play. 99% of the time the owners are great, and dogs are watched carefully. The only con I can think of on the small dog side, is that there isn't always small dogs to play with. I would say 25% of the time when we show-up there aren't other little dogs to play with. If you have a big dog, we always see big dogs so that won't be as big an issue for you. Also, recently there seems to be a big debate over should the gate separating the big dogs from the little dogs be locked or not - currently is it not. So sometimes you will get big dog owners that want to bring their dog into the little dog area for socialization. Tension can run high if you have owners that disagree on if that is okay or not. We are pretty easy going, so as long as the big dogs aren't aggressive and don't run over our dog we haven't made an issue of it. But just so you know, that is a big debate in that area. We were asked to sign a resolution asking to keep the gate unlocked. We have remained politically neutral on the subject But politics aside - if you are looking for a close, clean, safe place to bring your dog this is the place. read more

This is a mediocre dog park, its not maintained very well but everyone who comes here is very friendly and welcoming. I like how the grounds are separated for small dogs and large dogs, but you do occasionally see larger dogs hanging out in the small dog area. I have been to a few dog parks in the area but I think this one has the most poop laying around. It is true that there are a few owners who just sit and socialize in the corner while their dogs do whatever they want, but I personally have never witnessed anyone letting their dog make a mess of the park. read more

It's really convenient to have this dog park in La Jolla. Yea, there are a decent amount of parks, but there's a lot of cars and traffic around, so a place where you can feel safe about your dog running around without a care in the world is cool by me. Though I don't have a dog, I was dog-sitting recently and decided to take the little cute one here. I really appreciate that they have a decent amount of space and two separate areas: one for small dogs and one for big. Even though I came with a small dog, I put him in the big dog area and he did fine. In fact, I think the small dog area was scarier than the big dog area because there were a bunch of small dogs being super yippy and diva in the other area... but I digress, haha. All of the people that come here are pretty nice and are in good control of their dogs, nothing really to be afraid about. The grounds aren't the prettiest though, probably because dogs are peeing everywhere, but at least it's a nice space for the dogs to run around, meet other dogs, and get all their energy out. I decided to give Doyle Dog Park a shot after my puppy became obsessed with the wood chips that littler the Nobel Dog Park. The first time I came here was around 11am on a weekday, as I had the day off. Only two other dogs came after me within an hour. There is a little lot near the dog park, but I parked near the jungle gym and walked my pup to the park. I found it nice to burn off a bit of her energy prior to entering the dog park. My first impression: hooray for grass and no wood chips! The park is separated into a small dog and big dog area. Although other reviewers have said that the gate separating the two areas are sometimes open, it has never been open the times that I have come here. There's plenty of shade, and some picnic tables that owners can sit at while their dogs play. There is a water fountain in the corner of the park, with two water bowls that you can fill up. The only incident that I had here with my pup was an aggressive dog that was being extremely rough and scared her. All of the other owners came to my rescue and were very blunt with asking the owner to remove their aggressive dog. I'm glad that owners here watch their dogs, as I've run into problems at Nobel with this. read more

Did I come at the wrong time or something because there were only a few people there?! I went on the weekend at around 2:00 so it wasn't football time. The place was empty. My dog only met maybe 3 dogs. The people there were friendly. I'm guessing it's more crowded in the afternoon? Parking is limited right next to the dog park itself but there was a decent size parking lot that was maybe a 10 minute walk away. Both dog parks (the small and the large dog one) are really, really small. I mean this might actually be good for people trying to slowly introduce their dog to other dogs, but it just wasn't a social dog park which is what I wanted. The whole park was small but clean, and felt like your average park. What time is the best time when you want more dogs (and more people)? I wanted to meet a hot, single guy but it seems like UTC is Asia. read more

Grounds are muddy, and not turfed as described on the web however the park is generally a good place to bring your dog. As long as you follow vaccination requirements and keep a strong and alert demeanor, you and your dog should have a positive experience. The key is to be able to distinguish the differences between play and prey here, as dog fights can and will erupt under the right circumstances. Usually they are quick and over within seconds, however with this park it is really just important to recognize the small vs. large dog size indications. Small dogs should not be on the big dog side unless you, the owner, are confident your dog can manage safely. There in fact, are small dogs here who float between sides, however my puppy is personally not fit for the big dog side yet. Owners are generally nice and amicable, friendly conversation and friendship potential at this park. Dogs and owners get to know each other better the more often they go to the park. Fencing is secure, long walk to the actual dog park, which is hidden WAYYYY in the back of the Doyle Community property, however it's nice to get some leash action with your pooch before the off-leash craziness begins. I would recommend bringing a clicker, or dog whistle with you, although clickers work best. This will help when dog fights break out or dogs are not listening when they need to. The loud clicking calls their attention off the situation at hand (whatever it is you want them to avoid) and brings it onto you. I would recommend this park to the careful, educated dog owner and I frequent this location with my puppy. read more

I came as a part of a Good Dog Meet-up, and we all followed the trainer's lead to let the dogs do whatever the flip they wanted to because otherwise we aren't doing our jobs as pack leaders. It was an interesting technique and I have to say my dog really respected me after that event; who knew? It's fenced securely, which is good, does have lots of places to sit down, and parking was easy. Grass had much to be desired through. Came here for the San Diego Cocker Spaniel Monthly Meetup. The thing that sticks out: THERE IS GRASS HERE! Okay, not that much grass, there is still some sand for Roxy to roll around in and dirty herself, but there is still some grassy area unlike other dog parks I've been too that's all sand. I like how there is a little separated small/big dog area. It's good to have option even though Roxy can hang with the big dogs. There is plenty of chairs and a couple benches. to sit on and watch your dog romp around. The area is clean. No stray poop that you could step on. There's even a scooper thingy provided for you to scoop up the poop without you having to grab it with your bag-covered hand (dog owners, you know what I mean lol). There's also a water hose in the back corner that you can use to fill up the water bowls. First time I've seen that at a dog park. If only this place isn't so far from my house, I would bring Roxy here all the time. We might have to make a weekly trek here since she loves it so much. The only con is the limited parking near the dog park portion of the park. I had to do street parking, and walk up the hill to the actual dog park. read more

They never apologize for their dogs' misbehavior (bullying, humping, and biting) and it's always the other dog (victim)'s fault. They also have their birthday parties at the dog park. Not the dog's birthday, but the dog owner's!!! One time they brought chocolate cake. CHOCOLATE cake at a dog park. Really? One, you should never bring human food to dog park, and two, chocolate is lethal to small furry friends! Now you see what kind of people they are. read more

The flies here are horrible, dogs constantly urinating on the chairs, homeless people sleeping in the lots and fields... There is constant drama here. Owner fights, dog fights, upset parents (when their small child gets knocked over by a running dog). Many don't pick up after their pets. People (kids and adults) run the hose and flood the area so the smell is horrid, resulting in dogs getting sick. Not to mention the gossip people will start about you and your dog if it barks at someone else's dog wrong. This park is like a meeting place for the miserable. read more

As others have mentioned, there is this on-going complaint of the issue of the gate separating the big park from the little dog section. I mean this is a BIG issue. I don't know why, since it was constructed as two sections. I have a little dog and would never put him in with the big dogs. I l like him to have a good time without injury. Most of the folks here are geratric and somewhat cliqueish. read more

I have been taking my pup here for a couple weeks now and until today we had no problems. However, today during lunch I witnessed a very unpleasant incident between an older lady and a young (and very very rude) man. His husky, Hector, was out of control and the owner did nothing to stop him. I saw his dog run from the gate to the other side of the dog park and jump on this poor woman, almost toppling her over! The owner didn't say one word to his dog and didn't even apologize to the elderly woman. After witnessing this I do not feel safe taking my dog there and I also do not want to be subjected to rude, insolent people like that man. read more
