I was in town for a wedding, being from somewhere else , I had no idea who to go to for an updo. I had called 4 other local salons, to no avail. All were swamped. [Darn that little event called prom! :-). ] I got the name of this salon from one of the local shop owners. The woman who answered the phone was pleasant and clearly knew what she was doing and more importantly in sync with the salon. She didn't say no off the bat- she did say the salon was very busy and what was I looking for? How long is my hair? And can you hold a moment? Let me see if I see if someone is available. Lindsay was available. And let me tell you- she knows how to get your hair into an updo! Please see the attached photo. My hair - there's a lot, but it's fine. I brought a decorative hair clip to install, and that just made the whole look come together. Lindsay has a natural aptitude for updos that showed in her ability to tame my hair -without once pulling my hair. I think she also used a quarter of the bobby pins prior hairdressers used. As I was leaving, I had left a tip for Lindsay on her chair- she brought it back to me cause she thought I had left it in error. She didn't want to assume that it was for her. She earned every bit of the tip and I was happy to leave it. My updo was $55 which is right around the going rate for every updo I've had in the last 5 years. Worth every penny. I Would absolutely recommend this salon. The whole group of hairdressers seemed to be listening to their clients and doing great hair. Thank you to the salon. And big thanks to Donna ( on the phone), Lindsay and her client for squeezing me in.

I am deeply disappointed with my experience at Opal Hair Studio. I chose this salon based on their…read moreprofessional website and positive reviews, but my experience did not match expectations. During my initial gray blending consultation, Jen and I agreed that gray hair did not suit me. The hair cut went well. ($112). Subsequent color services did not go well and were highly frustrating. My second visit was to color the 3-inch gray growth to match my light brown hair. The single process turned my 3-inch roots hideously dark brown leaving me with a harsh demarcation line. Also, no barrier cream was used so I left with stains on my face even after my face was abrasively scrubbed. Jen stated she lacked the time to add highlights to blend it together. ($282) I returned for a third appointment to have it corrected, which resulted in a shocking display of incompetence and zero customer care. Jen added partial highlights. An inexperienced assistant washed my hair and left some bleach in it, requiring Jen to rewash it. The assistant applied the first toner only to the roots of my part. My highlights turned bright blonde. A second toner was hastily applied, but since toners are temporary, the blonde is reappearing. What's worse is that there was no apology for their mistake. ($303) Total cost: $697!!! In addition to the outrageous cost, there was a complete lack of hospitality and comfort during my 3rd visit. The assistant's extra-long nails repeatedly poked into my scalp and started sloppily washing near my ears. When I asked what she was doing, she became visibly annoyed. Lacking any sense of hospitality, she abruptly told me to go sit on a bench in the waiting room instead of making me comfortable. I chose to seat myself in a chair by the dryer area instead. I was completely ignored and sat waiting for 35 to 40 minutes with a wet head while Jen focused entirely on another client. The poor results and unprofessional service did not match the exorbitant cost and I am exasperated by the massive amount of my time that was wasted. I recommend avoiding this salon.
