I had a window issue in my new home that I couldn't find anyone to help with. I contacted multiple contractors and different companies and it was clear my business was never important - I'd get ghosted for appointments, took months to get quotes, and more. I finally found Smart Shield and was contacted almost immediately after requesting a callback. The owner, Bryan, was so incredibly kind, thorough, and knowledgeable. He helped customize a plan for our home based on what would remedy our current situation and prevent future issues. The process to get started was easy (and very digital which earns extra bonus points in my book) and it was a few weeks until installation. The installation went great and I've never had an issue with the windows. It went so well, that we had Smart Shield come back and put in new doors for us, more window replacements, and replace our siding. While that was a bigger job, the process was just as wonderful. The team at Smart Shield is HIGHLY communicative. The installation crew are all lovely, respectful, and masters of their craft. They have impeccable clean up after as well! They are my first call whenever we need something done and will continue to be the only company I recommend. Smart Shield treats you like a friend and not a sales target and their work is top notch quality. Don't bother going to any other company - but be sure to tell them I sent you :)

About 4-6 weeks later, Blake contacted me and scheduled for installation. Robert and his team did an excellent job installing the windows. I had a total of 11 windows installed on the first floor of my property in Nov 2023. They completed the job in 1 and half days. It could have been done in one day but the sunset in November didn't allow. Some of the pictures of the completed job are shown below. I don't have the before pictures but trust me, there's a huge difference. I will have them come back to complete the second floor in the first quarter of 2024. Thank you!!

Alderfer's installed a large mirror in my bathroom. After a couple of years, I started to notice…read morethat the mirror was silvering badly at the bottom edges. When I called Alderfer's about this, they said that it is caused by using Windex that contains ammonia, and that I should change to ammonia-free Windex. What?!? They never gave that warning when they installed the mirror, and it sounds ridiculous to blame it on a cleaning product! They also installed a new pane of glass in the sidelight window next to my front door, and when they removed and reinstalled the wood frame, they left a mess on the exterior -- bulging nails, chipped paint, etc. Not good.

Because the house is historically designated, we had to preserve the pole gutters and step flashing -- not easy or cheap to do. As teachers, our budget didn't leave room for a full cedar replacement, so we talked to a lot of roofing companies, from sky-high "purist" quotes to suspiciously cheap ones that didn't inspire confidence. Ted from Volpe was the first person who really listened. He came up with a creative solution: use architectural asphalt shingles but preserve the copper details that define the house. That plan balanced authenticity, durability, and affordability. After Ted left the company, things went quiet for a bit, and we worried the project might stall. But once Gregory became our project manager, everything turned around. He's energetic, conscientious, and genuinely good-natured. He stayed in touch, coordinated around the other work we were doing ourselves, and handled every question without hesitation. The garage roof was completed in a day, and the house followed with exceptional attention to detail. The copper work, done by Diego and John, is extraordinary -- they recreated the original pole gutters and flashing with real craftsmanship. Now we have a roof that looks beautiful, protects the house, and keeps the historic character intact. I got his name and number from my vet actually so I had to cancel the appointment because water was pouring out of my ceiling which I thought was a roofing issue from my porch. It turned out that it was a heating pipe that split. My daughter told me that the floor upstairs was soaked. I ran upstairs I pulled up the carpet and it was scolding to the touch. There was a lot of steam coming off the floor. I ended up calling the fire company going way over the extreme, but by that point I had already called Dale Rimmer. He ended up getting here as fire company was leaving ( which was 20 minutes ) He did explain on the phone that it was probably just steam coming off the floor. He remained with me at the house until I had somebody able to come out and fix the pipe( the fire company turned off my boiler as it was pouring water into my house). I'm also leaving a review for my Fire company. I've never needed them in all my years living here, but they were downright amazing and the same thing with the police downright amazing. Several siding contractors we called said they only did siding. Dale said he had contractors that he has worked with for years that could do the stone work and build the new porch. Dale was involved during the entire process and the stone mason and carpenter he brought in were great. The porch and stone work turned out better than we expected. We also had a new flagstone walkway installed and our deck refurbished. The new siding, gutters and downspouts completed the makeover of our home's exterior. Dale was personally involved and was quick to answer and questions or concerns we had. All of the people took pride in their work and the results show it.
