    Free comic book day!
    Jannette R.

Friendly staff & still had so many free comics available from yesterday's First Saturday comic day so was able to grab some for my lil patients at work. Daughter loves her Manga books & collectibles & she's perusing until I said let's go!! lol. There was a 20 volume set for $180 although she already had 1-10 & was looking for the in next series which unfortunately they were out. Mid sized Figurines were $20-$45 and up. Books ranges from $5 kids and up for others. If you bought something, there was poster giveaways for the new movie coming up. Great mom & pop comic shop.

Dr. Comics has been a regular stop for me since my family moved to Oakland. I actually went so many times that my dad got me a gift card for Christmas. Staff are always so friendly and excited to share their tips and knowledge with you. In addition to a huge selection of comics, they have a great variety of board games and toys and figurines. Such a great stop for gifts for family and friends. It's dangerous because I can never leave the shop without buying something. Always so fun every time I pop in.

    weird child porn figurine

A decent games shop that also sells Japanese child porn comics and hyper-sexualized Hentai figurines for weird dudes to do what they do. It's a gross vibe that makes this an uncomfortable place to take my daughter to shop.

Great Comics store on Piedmont Ave!! Going into this store brought me back to my youth, I was a big comic book reader. And they have stacks and stacks of everything thing Comics related. Books, figures, all types of memorabilia, they even have a life sized SpiderMan statue in here. Upon entering, they always greet you. And besides comics, they have games, videos, dvds, just a lot. And although it was closed off, they have an upstairs packed with stuff also. Very good Comics and Games store!!

I went here with my friend recently to pick up a chess board. They have a few different types of chess boards and the one we picked up was a travel board. It was quite alright with nice pieces and board that folds in half with a clasp. I love chess and was once a chess coach in Portland, OR. Friendly service. I wish we would have had more time to look yet they were closing when we arrived so only time to pick up the chess board before leaving. We will definitely be back to check out their other selections.

Cute neighborhood comic store with fair selection of comics, manga (including BL), board games, TCG, and other nerdy goods. The store staff were friendly.

We sat in the car to enjoy our lunch, then went back to the store for more bargains. The bookstore has some outside vendors too. The owner Kerry has tried to help me find some obscure current comic books a couple times which I appreciate. The staff have all been helpful and easy to work with. I believe they do a significant amount of business in trading card/game card these days, but still have a respectable comic offering.

What it loses in anonymity, it gains in character. The shop is perfect when you go in knowing what you want--you just ask the person at the counter. They will order what you need if it's not in-store. Done! If you don't know what you want, I think it's even better to limit options in a small well-curated shop. Any item on display can be considered a recommendation of sorts. No need to browse through thousands of square footage of books, worried that you will miss the best thing on the next shelf. For serious collectors, there is a downstairs area. I do miss the cat.

I also appreciate that they have masks available if needed and offer them proactively. On top of that, they provide free drug testing kits, like fentanyl test strips -- which is so vital, especially with the spike in fentanyl overdoses and contaminations in recreational substances. It's just really nice to see that kind of care in the community. The range of books is massive -- both new and used. The selection of new books is decent, but the used book selection (and price) is phenomenal. They also have a whimsical collection of bookmarks, stickers, and random stationery, which is super charming. Honestly, it's just a really solid bookstore. The first time I visited, I'm pretty sure I spent like two and a half hours just browsing all the sections I was interested in -- and there were so many. Lots on religion and spirituality, metaphysics, physics, psychology, cookbooks, music, art, fashion -- so many topics that caught my eye. I took my time and walked out with maybe $125 worth of books and oracle cards, which was such a joy. They also have a book exchange policy where you can trade in books for store credit, but you need to make an appointment to do so. The last time I visited was maybe a month ago, but I'm thinking about going again... tomorrow! XD

I had a super negative experience when I went during their book buying hours to offer them some books, though. Their buyer was out during the buying window, and the person they had step in was shockingly rude. I was offering six recently-published books in new/mint condition from a popular radical independent press. She took one look at them (I'm pretty sure she had no idea what she was looking at), spat out a bunch of gibberish about different types of store credit so quickly that no one could have followed a word she was saying, and when I asked whether the amount they would offer in cash was the same as store credit, she basically sneered at me and said she would offer me maybe $6 (for three of the books I'd brought, about $75 worth), clearly implying that they were garbage and not worth anything. It was such a needlessly disrespectful and off-putting way to talk to someone for no apparent reason (if she wasn't interested in the inventory that's of course totally fine, but the rudeness was completely uncalled for). I haven't had my day ruined by someone working in a shop like that in a really long time. Obviously I said no thanks. I had just found this store for the first time a week ago and bought a haul of books, and was looking forward to being a frequent customer, but I won't be going back.
