If you're into action figures and board games, then this is the place to go! I'm shocked that they have more than 1000 toys in the store and some are hanging close to the ceilings. The down side is that they don't label prices, and you may have to ask them about the cost. It could also difficult to find what you're looking for due to the amount of toys they have. I don't really plan on getting some since I don't play them, but I think most people who do would want to come here. read more

Toy Safari is a toy store designed for young children. unsure what age excactly. i never saw anything similar when i was in elementary school. inventory mostly figurines, train sets, game sets, construction sets. i wouldn't presume what any child would want. i would bring any prospective recipient of toys here so they can make the choices themself. this is so different than toys R Us. doubt many of the toys, games here are suppliec by big toy manufacturers. it would be 5 stars if i had impressed a child. but i didni't (yet). read more

Absolutely poor service. Some non employee man yelled at my son for bouncing a ball. And an employee asked my son right before but he didn't hear before. The man started yelling at my 11 years son "hey are you deaf or something? " I pulled my son's hoodie down and said "yes" and showed him his hearing aids. My son also has autism and it so it takes a moment to process. That man never bothered to apologize. And I told the man working there that he was being inappropriate to peoples children and told him to come to me instead of coming to my kid. The man who worked there did nothing... My son was hurting anyone or breaking anything. He was not in anyone's way I got a pic of the pathetic employee who could have intervened and said "hey we don't yell at people's kids like that." Make it to Toy Safari once a year. We don't live in the Bay Area but the family has a yearly event in Alameda. This was the fourth year of the event, but our fifth time at the store. We love Alameda for quite a few reasons, but the top two are Crown Memorial Beach (where we hold the event, Bay Area Walk4Hearing) and Toy Safari. First time we went was a nostalgia laced adrenaline filled syringe to the jugular. I stood in front of a giant glass case of opened and unopened new and old Star Wars toys. Mouth agape, dehydration setting in from the loss of drool, my son spins me around to ANOTHER wall of unopened Star Wars toys. Clone Wars, Rebels, Prequels; I was starring at Kanan and Fives and Maul and I even found a Chopper. For fear of going blind from starring so intensely at this Sun of nostalgia, I turn to my right, shielding my burning eyes from GI Joe, He-Man, Transformers, and are those GoBots!?!?! Losing my vision, and unsure of what's real and what's toy, I make my way out of this glass case filled hallway of joyful memories. I think I'm free and then suddenly I'm smacked in the sensory overload portion of my brain that's reserved for just Lego mini figures. It hit and it hit hard. Heart palpitating, knees buckling, gleeful perspiration and toylust induced drool completely dehydrating my body, I know I cannot take anymore. I look to heavens, shouting at the god of toys a challenge "Its done. Im finished. Either strike me down or give me the courage to go on, the wisdom to know the way, and strength to endure!" And then bliss. I'm a cloud on a cloud bed in cloud house. Weightless. Free. Alive. Awake. I suddenly realize my surroundings. Children pointing. Mothers gasping. At first, there's shame and embarrassment. Then I truly understood. The children pointing and the mothers gasping was their reaction to me achieving toy Nirvana. Like Gandalf, I was suddenly doused in a shimmering white robe. Eyes closed, the feeling of Sweet Toy Energy wafting off me as I slowly rose off the ground, slowly spun in the air, and gently settled back sown. In what seems like centuries and seconds all at once, I open my eyes. The Mona Lisa. Starry Night. The Birth of Venus. Michelangelo's David. Crayon art by monkeys in comparison to what stood before me... I stood in front this, obviously hand made by God himself, wall of anime. I took in the beauty, just feeling the glow and wonder of Japanese animation envelope me in a loving kangaroo pouch hug. For 2 minutes or 36 minutes or hours, I stayed in that kangaroo pouch. Time was no longer. So enlightened I was, I craved nothing. Asked for nothing. However, I received everything. So, that was first trip. Great prices too. Something for everyone. read more

Coming in here definitely made me feel like a kid again... and not just because I had my kid with me but because I saw so many of my childhood era toys in here! GI Joe, Star Wars, Hot Wheels, Playmobil, etc. There's something for everyone of all ages to have fun with (or geek out on) in here. They have a nice mix of new toys and used collectible toys. This store might look small on the outside but it has an impressive toy collection inside. There's so much toys that it's stacked all the way up to the ceiling so make sure you look up. Even if you are an adult now and don't play toys, I'm sure you will find something you can relate to that will bring back those childhood memories. If you have any toys or games lying around the house, you can trade or sell them here. Everything in the store looked like it was new or in good condition. I didn't see anything in bad condition. The store is well organized and neat. You shouldn't have any issues figuring out what section of the store you're in. The only thing I didn't like was the lack of price signs or tags. Service is horrible. My brother wanted to shop for old/vintage hot wheels so we came here since they're known for older toy collections. Don't get me wrong, they also have brand new toys that are trending now. My brother went to look at these cars in the glass shelves and it was blocked off with totes and I asked the younger male Caucasian employee there that was stocking the shelves if I can go join my brother in that section.. he said, "Yes.". Then this older male Caucasian employee comes over, scoffs at me and said "this area is actually blocked off.". Then I looked over to the younger employee and told him that he said it was okay for me to go there.. GUESS WHAT?? The younger employee didn't say anything to back me up. OMG, I love this store! I was wandering around the other day and I found all the toys I ever wanted as a kid but for some reason, Santa misdelivered all of them. I was so happy to see the long-coveted Lite Brite as well as some Pound Puppies. Not only do they have brand new toys, but they also have some antique toys from way back in the day. This is an incredibly small store, so many of the products are stacked high on the shelves. When I was inside, someone was reaching for something and a stack of products tumbled off the shelf. Some reviews complained about kids not being able to "play" inside the store. I mean, this is a small mom-and-pop shop and unlike Walmart or Target, these people can't afford to have damaged products. I was inside for like 5 minutes and things were falling off the shelves because people were being careless. They have a shelf devoted to puzzles, which you don't really see in stores anymore. Squishmallows are pretty popular and they display it right in the front of the store. They also sell board games, figurines, stuffed dolls, model kits, and a plethora of Lego sets and Lego figurines. Toy Safari is perfect if you want to buy one-of-kind gifts for children. I hope this store will stick around for years to come. read more

It is an interesting toy store, very complete. The guy with long hair is super nice and friendly. I only had one bad experience when I went with a kid after having lunch and I was holding his drink and then we went to the store and a guy told me that no drinks allowed and a week before I was there with the kid and we were seeint toys while I hold the drink and no one said anything, but that day a guy did so I had to wait outside. But then minutes later a couple of customers went inside the store with bags and drinks and that guy didn't say anything to them. So I went inside and just didn't drink anything. Besides that the rest of the team is nice except for that guy, is a clean store and I can tell they really try to organize as much as they can!. read more

Took some of my old toys and collectibles to sell. The staff were very friendly and courteous . They examined everything in my box and offered me a great price for the items I brought. Overall the store is awesome with literally hundreds upon hundreds of action figures and toys from retro styled toys to the latest Marvel Legends and McFarlane figures. You can literally spend hours in there just browsing. Definitely a place to I sit if you are a collector like me or just need to find a cool toy for yourself or as a gift. read more

I have been a loyal customer for years - crossing 3 cities to support this local business but after how I was treated last week no more! The customer service was horrible! As for the cashier wanting to provide me with support since I lost the store credit card the manager, disgruntled (Caucasian woman) told him he had other things to do (though no one else was in the store) than to help me out. It was evident that despite the cashiers efforts to help me find my store credit that his manager was not happy with his doing so and bluntly in front of me told him to stop. She was not concerned in helping me locate the store credit for selling my kids toys to the store for which they will make money of but was simply dismissive of me as a person. It felt like she looked me up & down and was not bothered. It felt like I was being discriminated against. I was told again they were too busy and a vague well get back to you in a few days but with no intention. It's sad to say I will no longer drive the extra miles to support a place that prefers to keep my $100 in store credit rather than try to correct the issue. Love the vintage collectible displays amidst the toys for sale and all the used doll houses lined up outside ready to entice any passerby-kid. Couldn't get our kid off the doll house area and into the store. Once in the store we couldn't get our kid out of the store. Once out, we couldn't get her off those doll houses again. I totally love this retro toy store! They have sooo many toys it will take a whole day to check everything out! It's a variety of new and used, they have a great system of buying your old toys for cash or store credit, I'll say go for store credit they do pay a bit more when it's credit. Went here once around closing time and got locked in. The old guy working there apparently closed up the shop and left while we were looking at toys in the front display?! We eventually found a way out behind a moving shelf that led to a workshop with a door to an alleyway. I normally have loved this store but tonight in the rain I went over to get a toy to donate for Toys for Tots. I walked in and the clerk said we are closed; I said I thought you were open another hour. He said well the window just got broken. I told them I was getting a gift for Toys for Tots and asked if there was anyway they could let me make a quick purchase. Who I perceived to be the owner walked by and gruffly said NO we're closed! I'm sorry your window got broken but I am not exactly sure how that breaks your cash register. Anyway, I tried to support a local business but since they don't want it; just ordered off Amazon and probably got it for cheaper than I would have paid there. I may still go back some day but I don't really know; it's lost some of its previous luster. read more
