If I could give a negative star I would. To start they told me I had 8 cavities, so I got them all filled. All of the fillings fell out of my mouth within a week of getting them filled. Then I go for my annual cleaning and they insisted that I get a deep cleaning and to wait to get it approved by insurance.. fast forward two months I get a new job and new insurance to allow me to go elsewhere. My new dentist told me I DONT EVEN HAVE ANY CAVITIES!!! The dentist at dr dental mistook my grooves in my teeth for cavities and I've read I'm not the first person they've done this to. My new dentist also told me that I don't need a deep cleaning and that my gums are fine. If you have mass health all they will do is make problems for you so they can scam you. I originally signed up for this dentist over the phone and didn't realize where it was located. Being located in a strip mall should have been my first clue. The receptionist was nice when I spoke to her on the phone but when I got there it was a different story. I had to fill out three sets of paperwork, one for me and each of my kids. I took a few short cuts because the paperwork was quite extensive and the receptionist made a snarky comment about how they preferred I did it a specific way. I certainly would have if there was something explaining just how they like it. When I got in to the room, I noticed it was an office that looked like it was thrown together and could be broken down and moved within an hour, kind of like one of those call center scam operations. The equipment looked very different than the kind I've seen at other dentist office's (perhaps they were on sale). The woman taking xrays just put the films in my mouth, told me to bite and took a quick xray. Other dentists make sure the film is placed in just the right spot to get the best angle, but it seemed rushed and like they didn't really care. It didn't seem like she was very educated in x-ray technology either. Another concern was the actual dentist told me she did not see the root canal on my xrays and asked if I was sure I had one. Umm, I don't think a root canal is something one forgets.......that made me wonder.... The cleaning was the quickest one I ever had and the dentist left and the assistant polished my teeth as if it was going out fo style.....quick, sloppy and less than thorough. I honestly feel ucomfortable there but really cannot afford the dental care I already get. I can say the dentist and assistants themselves were very nice and courteous (with the exception of the receptionist who was rather pushy--not a good quality for the first point of contact in any business). I was pleased with the dentist herself and the customer service in the room. I would just like the actual work to be as thorough as possible because this is my teeth we're talking about! Overall it's a MEH, but I will agree to give it another chance and see if things improve. If not, I'm out! read more

A tale of two dental offices part 1 I was overdue for a cleaning and needed a new dentist. Talked to a friend who recommended Family Dental in Haverhill. There was a little confusion because she said Merrimack St. and I found them on Lincoln St. But as you can see from the sign they have posted here, it says Family Dental. Either way, I called and made my appointment for after work, 630PM, on a Friday. I usually got out of work and back to Haverhill around 6 but of course hit traffic that day. I had to go home to brush so I called them and let them know I would be 5-10 minutes late. They said that was no problem. Here's how the rest of my visit went: 6:35 I got there 5 minutes late 6:40 Finished filling out required paperwork 6:45 Asked receptionist if they were running on time, she assured me they were. I asked if I could just take a quick walk since I had been sitting all day and my back was sore, no problem I was told. 6:52 Got back and checked in. They still weren't ready for me. 7:00 Checked with receptionist again. Pointed out that it was 7PM and my appointment was 6:30 and she had assured me they were running on time. She then tries to tell me she called my house to offer an earlier appointment. I remind her that I called HER to tell her I'd be 5-10 minutes late and there were no messages when I got home. She insists she called me so I call her on it and ask what was the telephone # she called? She does a bad job of reading back my #, hesitating on the last # and says 3 instead of 2. I ask her why she didn't mention the earlier appointment when I called her to tell her I may be late or why she didn't mention it when I got there? Gee, no answer for that one. Don't try lying to me chickie, I have a BS meter that dings at the slightest inclination of crap. 7:10 The mom of the current patient in with the dentist is telling me they run late all the time. She says they will even tell her on her appointment date that she is there on the wrong day. This is not giving me a warm fuzzy feeling. 7:15 After checking with the receptionist again, a hygienist finally takes me into a room. She puts the bib on, takes some x-rays and says she'll be right back. I wait, and wait, and wait, and wait some more. 7:23 I take off the bib and wander out of my little room and down the hall. There's the room that the dentist is in now, the x-ray developing room, a bathroom and that's it. All the other exam cubicles are empty. Empty meaning empty of anything. No chair, no tools, no sinks, no nothing. Just the appearance of many rooms but really just the two. So this means the dentists and the hygienist are in with the other patient and I am not going anywhere fast. 7:30 What the hell am I still doing here? I take my purse, tell the receptionist I am leaving and get the hell out of dodge. The other patients mom's jaw dropped like she was trying to catch flies. I looked ate her and asked if she thought I should give em another hour? Never got my teeth cleaned. This place stinks! read more

Since losing dental insurance years ago i have had a only few cleanings over the past 5 years. It'd been over a year and I was looking into paying completely out of pocket for my next one when I saw a Groupon for Dr. Dental. $27 for a cleaning! Whoa! Now, I was met with prompt and courteous service. They ran on time and I didn't wait too long. I gave the impression at one point that I might be pressed for time and they responded by keeping me up on how long everything would take etc. I do know, however, what a $27 dentist visit feels like. It is short and the cleaning is not very thorough. My experience with 'traditional' dentist visits included thorough scraping and polishing but here it felt like the big stuff was scraped, a quick brushing and then done. ***Update from a 5 star raving review to a 1 star for their service today. I'd recommended them to my wife, and in turn she called to schedule the $57 cleaning for us, both on the same day. Very pleased, and she was happy with how smooth the process was...until we got a call back. So, even though she was quoted AND CONFIRMED the price, the call was to inform us that she'd get the $57 cleaning but mine was $129... You'd think that a referral, returning customer, and one who had gone out of his way to write a 5 star review would be considered before they'd have the audacity to call back with a price doubled from their initial appointment scheduling. Not how I would manage my mistake, being a business owner, nor my way of keeping loyal customers who bring in new clients through "word of mouth." I was in the waiting room for over an hour before I actually saw the dentist. I was suffering severe excruciating pain and it turns out I needed a root canal which they would not be able to perform for weeks. The worst part and the reason I am giving them one star is because they prescribed ibuprofen for my serious pain. Ibuprofen. Literally the same stuff you can buy over-the-counter at CVS. What a joke. Of course it did absolutely nothing to help my pain. Today I finally got a filling in my front tooth that I've been dying to get for quite some time now I absolutely love love love it the dentist who did it is amazing he's done a few things for me pull some teeth he's just very professional and whoever his assistant was today for my filling at 3 o'clock this is Katie Ketchen she was great very professional great at her job and we were actually from my mouth being wide-open we were actually laughing without it interrupting the work so they just all in all make you feel very comfortable. As well as the people at the front desk all of them that I have dealt with are all great I'd say you guys have a great staff I lived in California for almost 9 years and so I didn't really keep up on my mouth as much as I should have because I didn't have insurance and Dr. Dental on Lincoln Avenue has been absolutely amazing about everything. I mean my sister and I try to book appointments at the same time or as close as possible on the same day because we take care of my grandmother with Alzheimer's at our home actually she is the reason why we moved home to live with and help her and my sister has a 2 1/2-year-old daughter so we try to go together so then we know whoever has to come Over to be with/watch my Alzheimer's grandmother and my niece at home it's only one day you know One day for a couple hours to sit here with my niece and my grandmother just makes it easier on everybody and your staff at the front are amazing in helping us do this and really go out of there way to help us. So it basically a bunch of things everything really, but all in all I'm not going anywhere anytime soon. and I truly truly appreciate it feel comfortable every phone call I get from you from the moment I walk in the door till the moment I leave. The dental assistants are great with my kids but the secretary and dentists are awful. You are lucky if they don't reschedule your appointment when you show up there. It happens all the time instead of them just calling you to let you know the dentist isn't going to be there once again. Shame on me for continuing to go there after a dentist who use to work there told me 4 of my teeth had cavities and when I got different insurance Aspen dental told me I didn't need any fillings. This was after they had done a few fillings prior to that so who knows if I ever needed any at all. Today was the last straw when my son's appointment had gotten rescheduled twice already and we showed up there and the girl at the desk handed me a referral to bring him to a pediatric dentist to have his last 2 baby teeth pulled after they had pulled the other 5 without ever mentioning his teeth were in too deep. Rivers edge Haverhill MA Set an appointment for a cleaning only, like I have done for 7 years. Receptionist asks me if i need xrays I replayed no. I have had xrays there before but only twice. Got called in technician said you do not want xrays I replayed yes. She made me fill out a form saying I refused xrays. The Dentist came in and said she could not give me a thorough checkup with out xrays because it had been over a year since I had xrays last. I replied I only wanted a cleaning. She repeated her checkup bit. And asked why I told her I have not had a cavity in over 25 years. She gave me the this could be the one time bit. (Really) Also told her no need to keep running radiation through my head. She claimed it was less radiation than a banana. (Really again). She then told me, she she could not give me a cleaning with out xrays. I asked, you are not going to give me a cleaning so why am I here? She replayed for xrays, an exam, and a cleaning. There is not a rating low enough for this outfit! You get what you pay for, cheap! I have been getting jerked around by them ever since I started going to them in June. I had a broken tooth and scheduled an appointment to get it fixed. They would not fix it and said I would have to come back and have a deep cleaning first. In June they only did half and it hurt like hell! They also would not fill it but said I had to get a crown. I can not afford a crown right now! Please just fill it? Last time I was there they did a crown that took three appointments to finish and the base of it is black! It does not match the color of my gums but it is in back and only I see it, plus I did not want her to mess with it any more! I was so mad that I had wasted my time to go there to have them fix my tooth and they would not do it then, I walked out and told them I would find another dentist to take me and my family! Then stupidly, (I was desperate to get my tooth fixed) I went to the other Dr. Dental in Haverhill, MA, and they were worse! The girl took over a half an hour to do my X-rays which KILLED, and she had to do them over 4 times, I was so aggravated, but did not show it, I just wanted to get the heck out of there! Then after all that the dr finally looked at my tooth and said he could not do it today that I would have to come back. I asked if he could put a temp on it, he said yes. I asked how long would it last, a couple days. Well it lasted a couple of hours! Plus the attitude of the girl at the front desk was unbelievable! Ughh worst experience ever. First of all it was the worst cleaning, So quick and didn't feel like my teeth actually got cleaned. They don't even have a sink to rinse your mouth and they don't floss either. My 3 year old daughter had an appointment too. Funny thing is we both got teeth cleanings 6 months before this appointment at dentist offices that did a very good job, no cavities..everything looked good and this place is trying to say we both have a mouth full of cavities. Bunch of bull if you ask me. It's a scam. They just want to get you back in and drill a bunch of perfectly healthy teeth to mooch off your insurance. It felt like a nightmare. This office and practice has been "serving" people I care for for a number of years. Unfortunately, those that I provide support for have MassHealth as their only insurance. Dr. Dental accepts this plan. The office is suppose to open at 8am, the receptionist walked from her car to open at 8:01, then she had to open systems to get into the computer. There were three patients waiting at this time. We have consistently had poor customer service. It is the norm to wait almost 1 hour after your scheduled appointment time when the doctor saunters through the front door so technicians can do their jobs. In speaking with the manager after our last visit, I thought we had made some progress. No, today we have an appointment in the Methuen office where I made a 10am appointment and just received a text confirming for 12. I tried to call there, they do not open until 10. Not knowing what to do, I called the Haverhill office. I asked if they could access Methuen's schedule, no. I asked if she could call the manager (she did last time) her reply was no as well. I asked what I should do for the person I care for, she was rude and clearly frustrated and told me all she can do is email the manager. This is the new protocol. They are sending my individual to Methuen to figure out if she actually needs a route canal or not. Seems to me they should be able to discern this as a dental practice. read more

I was Elated to find Out Mass Health was covering Partials , So I went to Dr. Dental. Let Me also say I was Employed @ Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston for 15yrs, 2 of the Years I was a Dental Student there until I have a Car accident and Lost My 4 yr Scholarship. Well we start with the Cleaning? Not!!! just used a little paste , nothing More, Actually had to ask the assistant for some Floss to get the Paste out of my Teeth? The Dentist comes In I being very friendly Greet her in INDIAN ,, She abruptly Stops me and say NO,,I AM AN AMERICAN NOW...No Indian talk ? I wasn't being Disrespectful at all? So the Dentist tell me I have 3 Cavities that Need fillings and She will NOT talk about the Partial Until she is finished with Her Restorative Work first. Ok I made an Appointment every week and it took a Long time to get the work Done ???? Given I was only Booked each sitting for 30 minutes each. Finally we get to the Partial Part , I was told By the Dentist It would be 6-8 Visits to make the Partial and she would Not be RUSHED ? I previously used the water street location some years ago and since my dental insurance changed to something my primary dentist doesnt accept I thought I would return to the same location. After a 45 minute wait in a room with unruly children I decided I'd had enough and cancelled my appointment with the comment that I would never return. I looked up the Lincoln Ave location located a short distance away and decided to give them a try since of the limited place which take my insurance. The staff at this location is attentive,friendly and polite and the paperwork is about average so far as dentist's go. The wait was short,the waiting room was clean and quiet with the absense of children running around. This isnt to say it should be the office staff should be responsible to control their patients behavior in the waiting room but more of a notice to pick your location wisely. The hygienists are polite and friendly, the dentist is VERY nice and takes the time to explain whatever issue's you may have and what you need to do without trying to oversell services your insurance wont cover which is a refreshing change from what commonly happens in "chain" store type dental places. Overall the experience at this location exceeded my expectations given it is located in a strip mall and although i can see why some people might be put off by it's location I do think it's an overreaction since in reality given the circumstance they provide a good service. read more

This place should be closed down.There is no running water in the Office,which gave me little to no cleaning.I clean my teeth better by myself.My teeth still felt gritty and I had to ask for a glass of water to be brought in from another room? Where was the sink like every Dentist I've been to? The Dentist was very unfriendly after he tried to use his pick on a split filling that needed correcting (my reason for going there as they took my ins.) The Dentist-who does not own the practice yanked and yanked to try to get CASH work from me. His "treatment plan" consisted of 2 crowns which my Ins. PAYS for and he was overly Friendly at First until I said I came here for my tooth to be repaired and he said NO, this can't be fixed.It was fixed by another Dentist BTW.It is a dismal setting with a ripped banner over the storefront.I asked for my x-rays to go to another Dentist and my records.I got "We can't find them" and after 1/2 hour and the person going into another room where we could see 5 pages of records I was forced to walk out with a partial of my x-rays.Since I have a Dental ins. few places take I went there.Never again! The cleaning was a joke-No Oral exam was performed and I asked and was told I'd have to make another appt. what the heck is with this place.It is terrible that only about 1% of Dentists outside of Boston take Mass Health and I was on my Third mistake.Please don't go here-someone from Mass. I went in for an extraction..I took 4 anti-biotic capsules 1 hour before procedure as directed. I was never told that I would need to pay beforehand or how much it would be. They wouldn't bill me and I did not have the $50 on me. As a result, I had to leave with a bad tooth and all those antibiotics in me. The location is convenient and clean. Their hours are also very convenient offering evenings and Saturdays. However, after a number of years of frustration with this practice due to the constant staff / Dentist turnover, complete disregard for customer's time by seeing me and spouse (respectively) way after the scheduled appointment, having to go back multiple times to fix the same fillings that they made, etc...I finally found a new dentist. Note that I have never had to go back to fix the same fillings prior to this dentist. The icing on the cake that let me know that I made the right choice to leave is that I requested that my records be transferred nearly 8 months ago to my new dentist and Dr. Dental NEVER forwarded them my records. I even followed up on my request 3 different times and nothing. I cannot believe that I still get messages from Dr. Dental telling me that I am overdue on my check ups. I don't understand why I keep getting these messages when I told them I was switching dentist and they didn't even have the decency to follow through with my record transfer. I filled out the paperwork requesting the transfer and they had no follow through. Also, two consecutive appointment made for my husband's follow up were cancelled by the dentist and he had to wait over a month to get back in. Then when he does go in he ends up waiting nearly an hour and half to be seen for a scheduled appointment. Needless to say, he is switching dentists as well. I hate to say this because, with the exception of one rude dental hygienist a few years ago, their dental hygienists were very nice and the front desk staff were always friendly. It's quite frustrating when you are looking for a dental provider that accepts your insurance! That being said, my insurance has a provider list in which to choose from. You would think that they would provide REPUTABLE dentists. But it certainly sounds reputable when you hear a name like Rivers Edge Family Dental or Water Street Family Dental. So why exactly does DR. Dental hide behind these two names? If they were so great then why not just say DR. Dental? Oh what a surprise I had when I arrived at Rivers Edge Family Dental and it was in a STRIP MALL and there was NO sign of their aforementioned name? My experience with them was what one should expect from a dentist in a strip mall. Horrifying! Nothing like sitting in a cubicle with a hygienist and a dentist while they have their hands in your mouth discussing the reproductive pains of the hygienist! Their communication system of YELLING over the tall cubicle walls for a piece of equipment was equally as delightful...but even better was the hygienist actually having to get up and exit the cubicle...turning the door knob with her gloved hand...and then returning..and putting said dirty gloved hand back into my mouth...Even better than that was me signing an agreement DURING my procedure that in fact the procedure may not work....But the best part.....even better than the 7 hour paralysis I had on the entire right side of my face and neck from the high amount of Novocaine used (I could not hear out of my right ear for several hours) ...was the severe humiliation I endured upon leaving...the front desk people asking me to pay the $245 fee for replacement of a filling....I went in for a broken tooth...Apparently, my 'insurance' did not cover a filling and I was assured that I was told by the hygienist prior to services that I would in fact be responsible for the $245 not covered by insurance....Ummm...NO! It's quite curious to me that would make me sign an agreement mid procedure..insuring that I know the procedure may not work but then why wouldn't they have me sign an agreement about additional costs too? Because I was NOT told of it! Yes I have complained of this on their online survey of my office experience...but nothing more has come of it...and I am even more frustrated today while searching for a new dentist only to find that another business, Water Street Family Dental is in fact another DR. Dental!! It is quite misleading and seems illegal to me that a business can be hidden under another name....I urge everyone not to give them your business!! read more
