Dr. Gumbo and his team are great, but the terrible management of this franchise is pushing patients away. This dentist location is Dr. Julia Faigel's franchise, and she has a history of customer mistreatment and improper billing. Over the two years I've been here for orthodontic work, I have dealt with constant miscommunication and extreme over-scheduling. In the past, I have walked into a waiting room with literally not enough seats for the amount of people they booked, forcing me to wait 30 minutes to an hour past my time just to be seen. The billing is just as bad. When my insurance changed, they never told me they stopped taking my DMO plan and just kept charging me a "copay." Later, they misquoted me ~$200 for an unnecessary "extensive cleaning," refused to clarify what my insurance actually covered, and then insulted me by asking to bring the payment terminal into my treatment room before the procedure even started. Lately, they keep rescheduling my appointments with almost zero communication. Yesterday around 5 PM, they gave me less than 24 hours' notice to move my 11:00 AM appointment to 10:30 AM. I arrived at 10:45 AM to an empty lobby, but Donna turned me away, claiming the doctor only sees patients for 10 minutes. This appointment was already rescheduled from 2 we back because the doctor wasn't available on June 25It is infuriating that they expect patients to wait an hour for them in a packed room, but will completely turn you away over 15 minutes on a last-minute schedule change. I've lost count how many times they've given us appointments, then when I arrive they claim there is "no such appointment" for me or my son. I even took screenshots proving the appointment is confirmed and they look at us like a deer in headlights. Horrible, scam artists . I went there for tooth pain and they tried to charge me for a full mouth debridement, when that's not what they performed. I wasn't even in the chair 10 minutes. I told them what I could and couldn't have done and what I wanted check but they ignored me and put in for the service anyway. When I reported them to my insurance company and they told me that my visit was covered due to what my issue was, the office began sending me invoices and bills for work that my insurance and the state said was covered and they can't charge me for yet they continue sending me invoices. I reported them again to my insurance. Then they proceeded to submit another request for services without my authorization and consent and somehow got approved. I will not be going to their offices and am going to report them to the BBB because that should be illegal. Do not use this office they are just after money not care. This location NEVER answers the phone, always mixes up appointments (ie. you show up with appointment card & they are confused "you don't have an appointment today" even though you have it in writing). They are extremely incompetent, flaky, arrogant and seem to only hire people with a very low IQ. I've even driven there to speak to them & saw people trying to get in at 9:30am on a weekday for their appointment, yet no one answers the door or phone. I initially went to Dr. Dental in Lyndhurst for a routine cleaning, and that first visit went fine. The problems started once it was determined that I needed an additional procedure. From that point on, communication was consistently poor. I was repeatedly misquoted on insurance coverage and pricing. For over a month, I was led to believe the procedure was covered or would only require a small out-of-pocket cost. Then, the day before the appointment, I was suddenly told it would be $3,000. That was a complete shock. After I canceled, someone from billing apologized and offered a discount due to all the miscommunication, but when I tried to follow up and reschedule, I got nothing but radio silence. Calls route to a generic 1-800 number, online messages go unanswered, and there's no sense of accountability. The staff seems well-intentioned, but the constant miscommunication results in poor service. It doesn't feel like a locally run dental office--it feels more like a large dental chain or factory focused on volume and profit rather than patient care. I would not recommend this dental. They put together a dental plan for stuff without examining my mouth. According to them I needed crowns, a root canel and a deprivement. My mom worked at a dental school for 30 years. She knows how to read X-rays and I didn't need any of things they recommended. Total BS. Dentist had long greasy hair. This place is not professional. They have false advertisement. $57 for a "possible" cleaning. This place is out for your money only. read more

The front desk and doctor will offer and try to talk you into getting services even if you don't need them. They are still trying to charge me for braces that I rejected because I refused to extract my molars. Thankfully I got my refund from my credit card because of if I paid in cash. Don't waste your time or money at the Lyndhurst location. Staff is not trained, they never answer their phone even when they receptionist/office manager is sitting with nothing to do. When trying to pad their bill/services they told me they "checked with insurance" and the procedure was covered. A few days later the text messages began. They insisted on payment before an EOB was sent by insurance. Ugh it gets worse but I've already wasted enough time with Dr D and its review. read more

Don't fall for their cheap first time visit exam, x-Ray and cleaning. If low on funds sure go ahead, but do not trust these people. They harassed me for months calling me after I told them to stop calling me. They wanted me to proceed with another $2300 out of pocket costs for things I didn't need. I was told I had 2 cavities above and below each other and there was not one physical sign I did. I went to 2 other dentists over time and both asked me what I was talking about. I had no cavities at all. It was the fastest cleaning I ever experienced and of course all dentists tell you that you need a deep cleaning. They showed me my X-rays and I was like there is barely anything there. Where's the cavities? Couldn't show me. They promoted samples afterwards and had none. The receptionist also had her child behind the desk playing around. While I support mothers doing their best to work and take care of their family, I don't need my discussion with them interrupted by their child. You could not pay me to go back here. I went in for a simple exam and cleaning. The staff is unprofessional and not very skilled. One of the hygienists spent five minutes taking x-rays of my teeth without even pointing the x-ray at me so she had to redo the entire thing. I spent a good 40 minutes just sitting in the chair waiting for someone to help me. Mediocre but it was just a cleaning so whatever. They told me I had a small cavity so I came back about a week later to get it filled. The dentist managed to numb the wrong part of my mouth so I felt everything. I've been through multiple dental surgeries and just about every kind of orthodontia you can imagine so a filling is normally nothing for me, but not with Dr. Dental! It hurt so bad I was begging them to stop. They ended up rushing and doing a sloppy job. Nobody was even available to take payment after my appointment so they just sent me home. Cut to four email reminders and one text that I have a balance due of $448 for these procedures. I have insurance and only should've paid about a tenth of that ($41). I called my insurance (Delta Dental) and they said "We send you and the provider the exact same EOB. There is no reason they should be charging you ten times this amount." I try to call and of course, the manager isn't available. After a few calls every few days the employee was noticeably irritated with her manager. Of course I couldn't just email them any information because you can't find an email address you can write to for this "business." Despite waiting weeks for this manager to get back to me, I am still getting several reminders to pay my $448 balance. After trying multiple times throughout the week, I finally get ahold of said manager. She is surprised that there was a billing error and told me I would only have to pay $49. Nice try, but the EOB says $41. She says she doesn't understand what I'm talking about despite the fact that we are reading the same document, but says "Whatever, just pay $41 and I'll take care of it." So, I use their payment system and pay $41. Weeks later I get more reminders for my $49 balance. I show up in person and ask for help. The woman I asked just pointed to her coworker. I explain the situation and she asks for a receipt. Strangely, I couldn't find one. The payment never processed. When I got home I checked on my computer and I filled out the information, but since it was only considered "partial payment" ($41 of the original $448 balance) it was never processed. Regardless, the girl took my card and charged me $49 even though the manager claimed she would change it to $41 on the phone before. This girl was just doing her job, of course, but meanwhile, the woman I spoke to when I entered started asking her coworker if she could record the screen while she did something. Not sure why. The girl said "No, that's a HIPPA violation because there is personal patient information on the screen." She asks if she can voice record instead and proceeds to play with the voice-to-text feature on her phone for the next few minutes. Why on earth are you trying to record anything involving patient's personal info? This saga has been going on for two months now so I am thrilled it's over and I never have to go back. I made sure I got a receipt so they couldn't make up another fake charge for me in the future. Anyway, if you like slow service, painful dental work, scammy payment practices, a lack of ability to communicate through email in 2024, and potential HIPPA violations, Dr. Dental is for you! 1, I called in advance to verify my insurance would work. They said they had to call back to verify. Never received it. I went in anyways. 2, Day of appt. I went there at 9am and they said they couldn't see me (wouldn't even let me in the door) because I didn't "confirm" I was coming to my appt. I have a tight schedule due to my work so they said they 'might be able to squeeze me in' but I need fill out all the paperwork first, outside (even though no clients were in the office). Filled it out, only for them later to tell me they couldn't see me at my appt. time. NOTE: that I later looked through all my TXTs for their "confirm" request and found nothing. I never received it. This is the place that I felt most comfortable with so far. Dr. Bianca Espinosa was my doctor and she is an experienced doctor, she knows what she is doing and you feel that. Other people are kind and they do their best. I had the fillings done, exam and cleaning. No more pain and high sensitivity when you're eating or drinking. No more bleeding gums. Pros: The cleaning was great and thorough. It was done by the dentist, not a hygienist. Plus they were running a special so it was a great price! But this cannot outweigh the cons. Cons: they told me I had several cavities and needed some old ones replaces. I took their word for it and had it done (I am a cash paying patient, no insurance). The dentist somehow molded two of my teeth together with the hard stuff they use to seal off a cavity (so there was no longer a space in between the two teeth). When I asked for that to be addressed, the HEALTHY tooth that was now attached to the one they were filling is now chipped. The filling is also jagged and sharp. I am genuinely afraid to go back and have them "fix" it. I have never been afraid of dentists in my life. I saw some previous review on Google that they lied to some other patients and they didn't actually have cavities once they got a second opinion. I am so upset that I didn't seek a second opinion. I don't even know if these fillings were necessary. I learned a lesson. Never trust corporate based dental offices. Only go here for cleanings! read more
