Be extra careful about the predatory and unethical billing practices at Coliseum Dental. I strongly advise everyone to check your billed codes and refuse to be led into private rooms for a pressure sign-on. (Note that they tend to be very defensive about negative reviews, which reflects how you will be treated in the office). My experience: 1. After I expressed concern over a $14K treatment plan, two billing staff moved me into a small, private room to "close" the deal. They pressured me to sign on the spot, even claiming, "if we charge less than this amount, we will be making a fraud." It was an intimidating and unprofessional experience. 2. They added a $1,600 service that was clinically incompatible with my current plan. When caught the amount increase, they blamed "insurance deductible changes", which is a blatant lie to hide a duplicate service. When I pointed out the medical conflict, staff simply asked, "Do you need to remove it?" showing zero clinical knowledge. 3. I went in for just a consultation appointment, and before my consultation, they attempted to make me sign for the entire treatment plan. After I declined, they pushed me to sign for a high-revenue CT scan with my consultation before a diagnosis was even established. My doctor actually canceled it, acknowledging it was unnecessary until I decide to proceed with the treatment. 4. I found they attempted to bill for a code that was not performed or discussed during my visit. My insurance denied the claim. Do not sign anything that you are not aware of. If you see fraudulent billed codes or misconduct, you can report them to: 1) your insurance; 2) the New York State Board for Dentistry; 3) the New York Attorney General's Health Care Bureau and 4) BBB. read more

I had a tooth that was chipped when I bit into something hard. It was on the "lower level" so it was not that critical but it was noticeable. My periodontist was a bit stumped as these kind of "repairs" are difficult. He kept telling me that he was going to call another dentist he knew but kept putting it off or forgetting. Fortunately, I had gone to Coliseum dental a few years earlier(at his request), for another procedure so I called Coliseum and got an appointment for the following week. They have a wonderful group of dentists and I'm not sure who did the work but they did a great job! The tooth is fixed. If you like your teeth and want to keep them, avoid Coliseum. No one seems capable of taking a simple XRay on the first try. And that fancy 3D Scanner? Expect multiple attempts, and unnecessary radiation exposure, and still they can't manage to produce a useful image. After paying for multiple consultations, they'll recommend a root canal on a single tooth. They'll ignore repeated reports of complications - pain, fever, swelling and blisters - for days. You'll finally get an appt a week later and...no surprise.. a massive infection has set in and DESTROYED FOUR FRONT TEETH. It will be many months, and tens of thousands of dollars, before the black hole in the front of your mouth can be fitted with fake teeth. Yes the staff is warm and friendly, and quite attractive. If you're only shopping for cosmetic work - Coliseum may be the place for you. But for actual dentistry....move on. read more

I absolutely loved my visits to Coliseum Dental--5 stars for sure! Two of the best doctors I've seen there were Dr. Nguyen and Dr. Pham. Dr. Nguyen worked on my root canal and made me feel super comfortable the whole time. Her staff was amazing too (sorry, I don't remember their names). Some of my favorite experiences were with Jay and Richard at the front. Sadly, I won't be going back to this dental office anymore, and one reason is that Jay, one of my absolute favorites, has left. She was such a bright light and always made patients feel so welcomed. No matter how bad my toothache was, she could turn my day around. I really hope Richard sticks around because they've already lost an incredible one in Jay. read more

Friendly staff, and that's about it. Agree with other reviews on their billing practice. They told me I need 3 fillings and showed me the charges which I paid at the time of service for around 100. Several days later received a mail stating that I need to pay additional 200 because insurance only covers amalgam fillings, not the composite ones which are more expensive. Their excuse was that I should've known what my insurance would cover. I'm not a dentist, I wouldn't know what fillings I need, thats why I'm paying them for the service. They didn't do their homework and now they force the patients to pay for their mistakes. The doctor also rushed through my filling and now it feels like the gap between my tooth got wider afterwards. I canceled my other dental procedures and appointments simply because I can't trust them with my teeth nor with my coverage. I'd stay away from this place. read more

I had a terrible experience at this dental practice. First, I went to Dr. Voong in a crisis because my wisdom teeth were hurting two weeks before a trip. During this consultation, he looked at my teeth and an X-Ray and informed me that the tooth was impacted and that was the source of the pain. He recommended I see an oral surgeon. I went to see the oral surgeon the next day and he immediately noticed that had an infection on both sides of my mouth and prescribed antibiotics. I asked this oral surgeon how my dentist could have missed it and he said "I have no idea. There was puss coming out of the infected sites". The consultation with Dr. Voong was not only a total waste of time and money, but he was completely wrong about an obvious diagnosis and could have ruined my trip. Secondly, I called the office because I had a gap between my teeth and wanted an opinion (in hindsight, I never should have returned after the first experience). I explained my situation and asked the office "Is Dr. Voong the appropriate person to ask this question to?" and "is this covered by insurance". The front desk assure me yes on both counts. In the appointment, Dr. Voong immediately referred me to an orthodontist. Overall, receptionist was wrong on two fronts 1) Dr. Voong was clearly not the person to ask this question to (I should have gone straight to an orthodontist) and 2) I was charged $118 for this appointment because my insurance actually did not cover it. I have since found a dentist who actually checks if things are covered beforehand so I would recommend avoiding offices like this one. Overall, I am extremely disappointed with this practice. This is the only negative review I have ever written, but if I can help one person make a more informed decision it is worth it. read more

Dr Berger I don't know what I did to become a patient who when I have an appointment with you, you decide to not be there and to have me seen by a stranger without telling me. When I became a patient of yours over 13 years ago, I came because of the small feel and service I received. I was able to see the same hygienist and the same doctor of my choosing. Now, I see a different person every time I come to your office. Even the periodontist who I made an appointment with a second time was a different doctor when I got there. I made the appt to discuss the possibility of entertaining the $5-7k procedures the first perio suggested. The second periodontist outlined a treatment plan more expensive $7-10k than the first doctor. I then foolishly made an appointment with YOU to discuss it on August 16. The morning of my appt. I called your office and make sure you were going to be there. I was shocked to discover you were not. I'm going to take these red flags at their value You don't care about my time. You don't care about me. You don't care about your patients continuum of care. You're running a mill. Disappointed in you. read more

I like the offices and the hygienists but will not be returning. I received an email today (December 2020) that I would be going to collections for a balance from services received in November 2017! It should be noted that I was in the office for cleanings prior to the bill materializing - if this was really a thing, why not try to collect while I was in the office? Presenting a bill 20 months after the fact for a balance billing situation is just not acceptable (and potentially not even legal (but the bill still has not reached the governor at the time of this post). Additionally, they also tried to say that I had a second balance from a cleaning in February 2019 and I had to pull the cancelled check and send it to them. Not sure what is going on with the billing department, but it's best to steer clear and find another dentist. read more

Good quality of care. AVOID for billing practices. Same issue for me and my husband. They came to see my husband literally on the dentist chair to hand him a paper saying: oh it's not $400 it will be $3000!!! We were both in shock. My husband didn't not have the choice, it's how they proceed. They did the same with me when I was PREGNANT. I had an infection and they sent me to the east side location, booked me with a different specialist, more expensive than what it was indicated on their paper, and they told me that when I was there for my appointment. Then they made me come back again another day because their machine was not working. No apologize, I kept repeating it's stressful I'm pregnant, they didn't care. I emailed them and called they don't really care. The last straw was bee weeks ago. I just went for a simple cleaning and they charged me for fluoride saying it will be covered by my insurance. I got the EOB, they didn't charge the insurance and made me pay out of pocket. I called, they said oh we do not know you have the EOB, we don't have it. I even emailed it to them, and again oh sorry you are frustrated. It's sad because their dentists are very good, but I would advise to not go there due to billing issues. read more

I've been coming here for about 2 years now and have always had a good experience. Dr. Voong has great bedside manner and the office is clean and welcoming. The admin staff always has my back and there have been several times where they have taken the time to fight my insurance in order to cover expensive necessary dental care! I had the best experience! I'm not one that has a fear of the dentist, but I do have a slight sensitivity. Stephanie the hygienist was amazing! I usually feel uncomfortable during my cleaning, not with her! She took her time and seemed to actually enjoy what she does; I've had horrible experiences with grumpy hygienist who rush through the process. The X-ray tech was also nice and personable. Dr. James! Received a bill out of nowhere from 2018 (it's August of 2021) which was sent to collections within a day, despite the fact that the bill wasn't "past due" and despite me calling them immediately saying that I would pay them. Sadly, I've seen other reviewers who have had this same experience so I know it wasn't just me. Truly awful. I tried reasonable, written communication with them and was ignored repeatedly. Very frustrating situation. Further, it turns out they had pulled the old "bait and switch" with the providers and sent me to someone out of network. I had an emergency dental pain. At first Dr. B was able to fix the problem, however she also saw numerous cavities/crowns. I thought maybe she was right. But what a fool I am. I should have got a second opinion. Insurance didn't pay so I had pay $$$$ amount to cover. 4 months later the problem came back. July 2019, I went in for a root canal. The front desk had left me a voicemail outlining what my out of pocket expenses would be - seemed fair and transparent so I went in without concern. Once I was in the chair they informed me that I would actually need to pay DOUBLE the estimated price - the miscalculated. At that point I'm there already and desperate to not be in pain, but it felt like a major gotcha. During the root canal, my dentist informs me that my roots are calcified, making them hard to find. Warns me that there's risk for infection and then wants to put the crown on an incomplete root canal. I was so confused. Ended up moving recently and seeing a new dentist - I mentioned the difficulty I had with that specific root canal and after checking it out, they noted that all the canals were indeed not cleaned thoroughly and essentially had to re-do the entire treatment. I get it was a tricky tooth to work on, but the fact that they flip flopped on the cost, chose not to refer me to a endodontist AND tried to put a crown on an incomplete root canal is super problematic. I wasted literally hundreds of dollars. They pulled a similar stunt with a friend of mine as well. This place is a scam - avoid. read more

I used to go here for my dental services until last time I had an issue that they "couldn't figure out". I had a tooth that hurt so bad every time I chewed on it. They drilled and filled the cavity but I was back a week later again because it still hurt. They thought that maybe they didn't file it down enough, so they filed it a little and sent me on my way. Just as painful. 3rd visit they re-drilled and filled. Just as bad. 4th visit, filing. 5th visit they finally realized that the filling they had been using was BAD and only found out because another patient had been coming in with the same issue as me. Re-drilled and filled with new filling. Now, that tooth had been messing up my tooth directly below it along the way, and they just now realized that the one below was cracked (didn't see that on the initial exam?? Or new issue from other tooth interference?). Drilled and filled. Now a year later I'm having issues with that tooth and after looking in the mirror with a light, there is a BUBBLE in the middle of the filling - no wonder it hurts. And the filling job doesn't even look even. NOT going back here even if they are willing to fix it for free, the DDS's have no idea what they are doing, clearly. read more

This review is especially for those who have UFT dental. I received a quote for a crown and two fillings that I thought was exorbitant. I got a second opinion for another dentist who quoted me less than half the price for the same procedure (still more than the standard copay because UFT does not cover the material, but significantly cheaper than Coliseum). Expect to get overcharged. I also booked my appointment with one dentist, but when it came time for my exam, another dentist from the practice came in. They did allow me to see the dentist who I had booked the appointment with but it felt a bit bait and switch, as I appreciate the opportunity to research medical providers in advance. I chose this dental practice because of the all the positive reviews EVERYWHERE and the fact that it is female-run. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this practice nor will I be returning. The first issue was that I waited for 45 minutes in the dentist's chair for someone just to come take X-rays and perform a cleaning. After that, I still would have returned had the remainder of my experience been positive. However, I was told by the dentist that I had several cavities and that sealants that had just been applied 6-7 months prior had come apart. I questioned this and sought a 2nd opinion from my family dentist and found that I had ZERO cavities and that the sealants had not come apart. I would not recommend this practice! read more
